Monday, 4 March 2024 “about whom the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, when I was in Jerusalem, asking for a judgment against him. Acts 25:15 In the previous verse, Festus laid Paul's case before Agrippa the king, noting that Paul had been left by Felix. He continues the thought now, saying, “about whom the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me.” The words of the verse are rather clear. The entire body of the leaders of the Jews, both chief priests and elders, had a united voice against Paul. Even if they couldn't agree on sound theology, such as their arguments concerning the resurrection of the dead, they could all agree that Paul was an enemy of their way of life. He was telling the Gentiles that they were on the same level with God as the Jews if they were in Christ. Further, anyone not in Christ stood condemned before God. To them, this was intolerable, and it was worthy of being excommunicated from the temple and the nation. And more, in their eyes, it was worthy of death. Therefore, Festus next says, “when I was in Jerusalem.” As Festus had just become governor, and as he had made one trip to Jerusalem, what was presented to him must have been of the highest importance to the Jews. It wasn't like the topic was something that could wait until they had established a good working relationship. Rather, right from the moment of his being introduced to them, they brought the issue of Paul up as an absolutely important diplomatic matter. And the issue was that they were “asking for a judgment against him.” The Greek word is dike. It speaks of a judicial hearing, an execution of a sentence, punishment, justice, etc. It is only found elsewhere in Acts 28:4, 2 Thessalonians 1:9, and Jude 1:7. Some older texts actually have a stronger word in the Greek, katadikazo, a word implying “condemnation.” Either way, the Jews were intent on getting their hands on Paul, and they did this through the pretext of a trial leading to judgment. However, their true intentions were to have him killed during the passage to or from Jerusalem. Life application: The Jews wanted Paul dead. Extrabiblical writings reveal that Paul and most of the apostles were eventually martyred for their faith. The fact is, however, that we are all going to die. And that could happen at any moment. We have no control over stopping that aspect of our existence. However, we can control what we do while we are alive. Each of us must work out our own salvation. This doesn't mean working out getting saved or remaining saved. Rather, it means working out what we will do with the salvation we received based on faith in Jesus. The older one gets, the more he realizes how short this life really is. A young person will look at old people and think, “Wow, they are really old.” An old person will look at a young person and think, “It was only moments ago when I was like that.” Because of this, we should consider our days and be willing to use them wisely, to the glory of God. This is especially so because of what was already noted. We have no idea when our day of death will come. Therefore, let us be about the business of the Lord while we can. It should not be our attitude to say, “I will start living for the Lord tomorrow!” Rather, we should say, “I will live for the Lord today!” Demonstrate the wisdom that the Bible proclaims and live out your days, starting right now, for the sake of the Lord. Each moment is a new moment to dedicate to Him. May it be so in our lives! Lord God Almighty, help us to be wise and discerning about the lives we lead. May we forget what is past, put what we cannot change behind us, and go forward with a new and right attitude from moment to moment, honoring You and bringing glory to You all our days. Amen.

What is the standard of truth for the born-again believer in Christ? Undoubtedly, the answer to this question should be the written Word of God. Though Scripture is recognized as God's Word, there are beliefs and practices that seem to lower this standard upon which we are to rest. Extrabiblical revelation and experiences are elevated to a high position with potential abuse and even neglect of God's Word and instruction. Holding a high standard of the Bible is vital for those who are in Christ. Join me as I discuss the necessity of holding a high Scriptural standard in comparison to the current trends and practices in the hyper Charismatic movement with my friend and sister in Christ, Emily Massey. In this episode of the Libertarian Christian Podcast, host Doug Stuart discusses the topic of faith and violence with Jerry Robinson, founder of True Riches Academy and host of True Riches Radio. Raised a Jehovah's Witness, Robinson eventually found his way to the gospel and now challenges Christians to think critically about their faith and the associated ethical implications. Together, Doug and Jerry take on the topic of "gun culture" in America, which Jerry suggests is contradictory to Christ's teachings on radical nonviolence. In addition to the rich discussion on the ethics of gun ownership and gun use, the conversation highlights the importance of understanding God's character despite the pervasive interpretative pluralism and hermetical difficulties of today. Jerry Robinson is the founder and executive director of the True Riches Academy and host of True Riches Radio, a podcast dedicated to challenging believers to think and thinkers to believe. Through the True Riches ministries, Jerry and his team seek to “educate, equip, and empower” followers of Christ through the creation and distribution of educational materials in a variety of formats including: podcasts, video teachings, and e-books. Since 2002, Robinson has served in both pastoral and lay leadership in the local church, has taught and lectured in a variety of Bible colleges, universities, and churches, and has preached and lectured around the world, including Europe and the East. Extrabiblical revelation is not foreign to the area of deliverance ministry. There have been numerous claims of God revealing strategies and revelation concerning demons indwelling Christians and how to remove them, and numerous books have been written on the subject. One book in particular makes the claim of divine revelation of demons in believers and how they lodge in rooms of the soul and in body parts. Join me as we examine the contents of this book pertaining to deliverance and we see if Scripture verifies these secrets to deliverance. If you have ever heard teachings from deliverance ministers, you might be familiar with the practice of attributing demonic power to objects. Some teachings emphasize such things as self deliverance, rebuking the devil, and cleansing your home of demonic objects inhabited by demons. Join me as we take a look at the teaching of spiritually cleansing one's home of objects said to potentially be inhabited by demons. We will be looking at Scriptures used in these practices in context, and we will be encouraged by the truth of the Word of God as believers in Christ Jesus. Why should we trust what the gospel authors have to say about Jesus? How can we test the Gospel authors to see if their accounts are reliable? J. Warner answers these questions in this video from a stage presentation from his book, Cold-Case Christianity.
With so much being written about the bible it can be difficult to know how to process what is written in a way that is both helpful and true to the text, what do we accept? what do we reject? That's what we explore in this episode.

The Book of Enoch is one of the most popular among the extra-biblical texts in existence. Doctrines are made out of what it contains, the Enoch calendar comes from it too. When compared to Scripture and history, however, how does it stand up? It’s time a testing of the Book of Enoch is done.

In this episode of the Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast, J. Warner continues to discuss the practices and principles of good investigations and applies these techniques to the Christian worldview. How do investigators add to their cases evidentially to establish their case in front of a jury? Can this approach be adopted by Christians to help us defend the Christian worldview? If so, what forms and types of evidence would qualify as we add to the case for Christianity? This investigative approach is described in more detail in Forensic Faith: A Homicide Detective Makes the Case for a More Reasonable, Evidential Christian Faith. Be sure to check out Forensic Faith and the accompanying curriculum.
The idea that Christianity is the result of an evolutionary process is nonsense. God has not changed; he is every bit as gracious in the Old Testament as in the New, and he is every bit as wrathful in the New Testament as in the Old. Continuing with our presentation of extra-biblical evidence to corroborate the Bible, we have one possible bit of direct extra-biblical evidence for Abraham, and we have much indirect extra-biblical evidence for the patriarchal narratives. The names, geopolitical situations, prices of slaves, forms of treaties, social customs and so on are all correct for the period and location. It would not have been possible for someone writing significantly after the time of the patriarchs up until very recently to get all of this information correct, so we conclude that the biblical narratives are genuine historical narratives. The few places where there are clear anachronisms are easily explained as later changes introduced by copyists for the sake of clarity.
The view of creation sometimes called Theistic Evolution is briefly described and, in addition to having inadequate scientific support, is shown to have a serious theological flaw. The difference between the accounts of creation given in Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis is then explained. The ubiquitous nature of human sin is compelling evidence for the Genesis account of the fall. The biblical account of the flood is consistent with extra-biblical sources. And the biblical account of creation as a whole is a polemic against all mythological presentations of creation. Christianity is not the end result of an evolutionary development of religion.
The Genesis account of creation, which Christians must accept as true, is often thought to be at odds with modern science. Some people incorrectly think that you must choose between the two. But, the reality is that there are a number of possible ways to reconcile the Genesis account of creation with modern science, so, even though we may not have a definitive answer, it is clear that such an answer does exist. As an example, the days of Genesis 1 might be literal, 24-hour days, and yet not be consecutive. We must also determine where the observer is who is describing the creation days. It is even possible, based on the theory of relativity, that the observer is in a reference frame in which time moves at a dramatically different pace than it does within our universe. References are given for listeners who are interested in more detail.
The Genesis account of creation was never intended to provide us with a scientific description of how the universe was created. Also, when the universe was created is of no theological importance at all. We must believe that the Genesis account of creation is absolutely true – it is part of God’s inerrant word; but, we need to be humble and not be dogmatic in asserting that young-earth view is the only possible understanding of the account.
The Bible itself is our most valuable archaeological document. It was written between roughly 1400 B.C. and 100 A.D. and has been proven to be accurate in what it teaches us about ancient history. Given that the Bible is the Word of God and is essential for salvation, we would expect that God would providentially see to it that it was preserved, and he has. The Dead Sea Scrolls provide tremendous evidence of this preservation. And other archaeological finds corroborate many details in the Bible. For example, names of people and places are accurate, the prices of slaves at different times are accurate, and the forms of treaties and covenants in use at different times are accurate.
Sometimes biblical authors drew in material from outside the Bible in order to strengthen their points for their audience.
Special revelation not required? Lorentzian relativity; Extrabiblical references to Job; Interpreting Genesis 30:37-39
The Babylonians approach Israel, and the people prepare for the attack. Extrabiblical accounts of this time exist in the Lachish Letters. At this time, some people make a sacred covenant to free their slaves, possibly as a cost-cutting measure, but when the impending army seems to be less of a threat, these people break their sacred covenant and take back their slaves. Jeremiah wrote down all the words that God had told him, and ordered Baruch to read them to those assembled in the temple. Jehoiakim burns the scroll containing those words. After this, the king seeks out Jeremiah and asks him what will happen and what ca be done at this point. Jeremiah tells him that there is nothing that can be done, and Babylon will capture Judah.
