This week on Sheer Isolation we're taking a break from discussing 2020 to chat with a man who retired from the live music scene several years ago. Dave Young used to run the Victoria and the 12Bar in Swindon, and in his time booked many well known names to play in the town. In Part One of this interview, we look back at when he and Anna first took over the Vic in 2004, along with some memorable stories from the first few years. Dave picks a tune from Swindon trio, Hip Route, featuring vocals from Reef's Gary Stringer. We also play a track from the upcoming album of Abingdon based The Sad Song Co. This episode was created by Kieran Moore in Trowbridge and Jon Ponting in Cricklade. Thank you for your continued positive feedback on this series. Listen out for us on community radio stations across the region. Musicians are very welcome to send us videos to feature as well as any news or gigs - virtual or otherwise - sheerisolation@gmail.com

Hello people, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, this is episode Thirty featuring a conversation with Gary Stringer from UK rock band Reef. I’ve been listening to Reef for almost 2 decades however the first time I saw them live was a couple of years ago at The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds. You might know Reef for their multiple albums or maybe just from their massive hit Place your hands, either way they have been filling our ears with funk riffs and soulful melodies for many years. I managed to get some time with Gary after their set which was part of the 4th annual series of Get Loud gigs that happen simultaneously across the U.K. in aid of Music Therapy charity Nordorff Robbins, who I have spoken about way back in episode one with Laila K of Sonic Boom Six. Gary gives some more information about them, the amazing work they do and his experience of being involved in working with them. We mention a session he and Benji of Skindred were a part of, here is a link to the video of their session: https://twitter.com/reefband/status/1176777446382874624 Check out @NordoffRobbins1 on twitter or https://www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk/ for more information.

With Rich having lost 3 games in a row to be trailing 4-3 to the iPhone, an unusually long gap due to Edinburgh and other commitments, plus the fact that Rich has gone rogue and is playing in a different toilet (!), Game 7 is perhaps the most hotly anticipated episode so far. "A nail biting comeback" **** - Gary Stringer from Reef. "This was a tough one" - Rich Keeble.
Following his early victory in Game 1, Rich's fortunes take a drastic turn for the worse in Game 2 (specially recorded in the dark), including rolling a double 6 that he can't use from being stuck on the bar. Can he pull it back and beat the iPhone for a second time, or is some match fixing going on? Also, Rich's old fan Gary Stringer from the band Reef has written in.
