— Tuned In is an inspiring story of one man's relentless pursuit of a dream, and a revealing testimony to the power of music in all our lives. The unique confluence of Jim Wilson's two careers - piano technician/confidant to the stars and a globally successful recording artist - has led to extraordinary experiences with some of the world's most exalted music legends: singing Beatle songs with Paul McCartney, limo rides with Elton John, road trips with Carole King, and horseback riding with Dan Fogelberg. But beyond this everyman's unique telling of intimate celebrity tales, Tuned In is an inspiring story of one man's relentless pursuit of a dream, and a revealing testimony to the power of music in all our lives. Emerging from a troubled childhood in a broken West Texas home, a young man moves to Los Angeles to pursue fame and fortune as a singer-songwriter. He soon strays from his mission when his piano tuning sideline blossoms into a career as piano technician to the entertainment industry's biggest names. His help in the development of the world's first MIDI-adapter for acoustic piano leads to him sharing adventures, sessions, meals, and laughs with dozens of his childhood heroes. His front row seat provides him with a rare and fascinating view into their creative processes. But when his world is shattered by his dearest friend's sudden and untimely death, he is forced to question the true meaning of success. He returns to his heart's purpose, takes a leap into the unknown, and sets out on a solo career, recording and performing his signature style of piano-featured instrumentals. Valeria interviews Jim Wilson — He is an Acclaimed Composer and Performer — the author of TUNED IN: Memoirs Of A Piano Man: Behind The Scenes With Music Legends And Finding The Artist Within. Jim Wilson could have simply dismissed himself as a competent piano tuner-technician, even an exceptional one. But he was, and is, so much more. From a broken home in Amarillo, Texas to a multi-award-winning recording artist, Jim Wilson's journey is a captivating tale of showbiz glamour, personal tragedy, self-discovery, and dogged determination. And, as is typical of Jim Wilson, he's turned out to be a pretty good wordsmith. Tuned-In: Memoirs of a Piano Man is a page-turner and a life-changer. It's a self-help book in the form of an autobiography. It is entertaining, revealing and full of lessons for musicians, fans, and all readers. Jim Wilson's life direction was set when he was given a guitar at age 7, then began composing songs at age 9. Soon after moving from West Texas to LA in his early 20's, he gained a reputation as a respected piano technician, catering to the highest echelon of the music industry. Jim helped develop the first MIDI-adapter for acoustic piano in the 80's, which became an instant hit with artists and studios around the world. It was the shocking, untimely death of his closest friend that forced Jim to question the whole purpose of his life. With the love and support of his musical heroes — most significantly his friend and mentor, Dan Fogelberg — Jim set out on a solo career, composing, recording and performing his signature style of piano-featured instrumentals. Four of Jim's ten recordings have hit the Billboard Top-20, he's had two PBS specials, and his music has been streamed over 75 million times by fans around the globe. He was recently made a “Lifetime Member” of the Recording Academy. He enjoys scuba diving, skiing, pilot lessons, and mountain biking. Tuned In is Jim's first book. Kyle and youth pastor RJ McCauley of Magnolia Church in California have a great discussion about sermon illustrations. They use the book "Illustrating Well: Preaching Sermons That Connect" by Jim Wilson as a discussion prompt. They talk about when to use illustrations, how to determine if an illustration is worth while to use in the first place, whether we should limit the number of illustrations we use, and more. Ultimately, they stress that illustrations should always point back to the text we're trying to teach.

This is followed by music from David Fanshawe's score for the 1991 Michael Winner revenge thriller DIRTY WEEKEND (Silva Screen Records) and then music from Don Davis's score from the 2001 film JURASSIC PARK III (La La Land Records) Jason then rounds off the show by playing more music from the album ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL: MUSIC FOR FILM with another suite, this time from his classic score from 1992‘s ALIEN 3. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
On the 10th September 2024, the music from the Marvel Animated series DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS was released by Dulcima Records on 10th September, exactly 40 years after the show premiered in the UK. The show's music was written by British composer Johnny Douglas, who, in addition to having a diverse career in film and television, was the composer of music for Marvel's animated series in the 1980s, which included SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, G.I. JOE, and TRANSFORMERS. His filmography includes the classic 1965 sci-fi adventure CRACK IN THE WORLD and the British children's classic THE RAILWAY CHILDREN. Louise Camby, Johnny Douglas' granddaughter, is currently researching a book on his life and career called TRACKS TO MY GRANDFATHER'S SUCCESS, and in October 2024 she spoke with Jason Drury about her grandfather's life and work, how the book was coming along, and how, by chance, she discovered music from DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS in Johnny Douglas' archives. During the show, we'll hear music from DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, as well as other music from Johnny Douglas' career. Information Morning Moncton from CBC Radio New Brunswick (Highlights)
Jim Wilson is an avid birder and member of Nature NB.
Would it surprise you to know birders in New Brunswick have reported seeing 175 different bird species this winter so far? It's the second highest number reported since Nature NB started keeping a winter bird list in 1996.Jeanne Armstrong spoke to birder Jim Wilson about that.
Our guest this time is James Wilson, the Executive Officer of the Theatre and Performance program at the City University of New York Graduate Center. His research and teaching interests include African American theatre and performance, gender and sexuality studies, and musical theatre history. He is the author of two books and today we'll be talking about his book Bulldaggers, Pansies, and Chocolate Babies: Performance, Race, and Sexuality in the Harlem Renaissance. His essays have appeared in numerous academic journals and chapter anthologies. He is a voting member of the Drama Desk, nearly 60, and a lover of Broadway. His thoughts and reflections on Florence Mills, Gladys Bentley, and other queer performers in the Harlem Renaissance are spell-binding and we think you'll truly enjoy him like we did! Not only does he shed light on the often overlooked LGBTQ contributions to the era's creativity and fights for justice, he does so with gusto and great research! If you'd like to purchase his book, please go to your nearest local independent bookstore. You can learn more about Jim Wilson here. British composer Stuart Hancock's most recent work on the animated epic KENSUKE'S KINGDOM Kensuke's Kingdom helps establish the children's book adaptation as one of the year's most sweeping and heartfelt stories. The film is a good old-fashioned adventure rendered in gorgeous hand-drawn 2D animation with a voice cast that includes Sally Hawkins, Cillian Murphy, and Ken Watanabe. The story concerns a boy who is swept overboard during a storm on a worldwide sailing trip with his family and washes ashore on an island in the Pacific Ocean. While there, he realises someone is nearby, aiding him with his survival. The script for the film was by award-winning British scriptwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce based on the book by celebrated British author Sir Michael Morpurgo, who is most well-known for his book WAR HORSE, also adapted into an acclaimed film by Steven Spielberg. In November 2024, Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Stuart Hancock via Zoom from his home in Leighton Buzzard, England. During the conversation, they discussed his work on KENSUKE'S KINGDOM and the similarities and differences between scoring for commercials and narrative work. You'll also hear numerous selections from KENSUKE'S KINGDOM. Christophe Beck, an Emmy-winning film and television composer, has defined the sound of iconic productions such as FROZEN, THE HANGOVER franchise, THE MUPPETS and the cult classic series BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Christophe via Zoom at his Los Angeles home near the end of September 2024. During the conversation, they talked about his career to date, being tutored by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith, his work on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and composing for the MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE, including AGATHA ALL ALONG. But first, they discussed another of his recent scores, THE INSTIGATORS, which will be released on APPLE + in August 2024. Doug Liman directed the film, which stars Matt Damon and Casey Affleck as reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to steal a corrupt politician's ill-gotten gains. When the heist goes wrong, the two are caught up in a whirlwind of chaos. True to form, CTV and OTT advertising is a disruptive innovation that appeals more to a NEW set of would-be TV buyers -- smaller businesses. In this episode, transformation expert Jim Wilson, who founded OTT platform Premion and is now president of Madhive, discusses what it takes to reach and serve businesses whose typical CTV buy is pretty small -- about $4,000. He also talks about his appointment to the board of Audacy, the radio company that has just emerged from bankruptcy. Stay in the loop with all things Borrell when you join our Research Alert Lists. As always, thank you for listening. If you like the episode, leave us a review! Want to join the conversation? Share your comments at borrellassociates.com/podcast.
Jim Wilson is a former Navy Seabee that served in the 80-90s era and went to Kuwait for Operation Desert Shield/Storm in the military. Now as a civilian living in Northern (Not UP) Michigan. Years ago he got a crew of friends from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Four that served together to meet in Las Vegas Veterans day weekend. This meeting was open to others that served in the same battalion at different times. When I was invited it felt like seeing family I never met before. I highly recommend any veteran to go to a reunion. You'll be surprised at how much you've been missed!!
We check in with Jim Wilson in Cork as there are sightings of Goldfinches, Redwings, Lapwings, Ravens, Hooded crows and Dusky warblers. Then, we speak to Bernie Murphy from Bunclody, Co. Wicklow, who sent in photos of a Little Egret and a Great White Egret.

Once you do, you can participate in all upcoming all-request programs. Before we get into today's episode, we must first discuss its origins. On October 30, 2023, I worked late into the evening to complete the first ALL REQUEST HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. The audio was recorded, tracks were chosen, and the editing was finished. I tried to export the show, and to my horror Adobe Audition crashed. I restarted the application and tried again. Same result, but this time I received an error message indicating that my voice-over file was corrupt. It took nearly an hour to record the voiceover and several hours to edit the episode. I was also in the midst of one of my busiest years ever, so I didn't have the time or energy to do it all over again, so I informed my Patrons that the show would be postponed and rescheduled for this year! Thank goodness I have a wonderful community of patrons over there, they understand and waited patiently for the show to be done. Fast forward almost 365 days, and here we are; everything has been re-recorded, re-edited, and... I am pleased to announce that the show has been successfully exported for you to enjoy today! On today's program, I'm celebrating the 28th anniversary of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, which began on September 20th, 1996, at CHMR / C101.5 FM at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. The station is now called INDI 101. For all of our anniversary programs, and yes, some years I forget to do one, I try to create something new. Sometimes it's clever, and other times it's just a simple, dumb idea that's relatively simple to implement. This show is the latter. Since the show is now 28 years old, I've decided to base it on that number. So, you'll hear tracks that are either 28 seconds long, scores that are 28 years old, films with the number 28 in the title, the 28th track on the album, take place in 1928, or were written in 1928 featuring composers Mark Snow, John Murphy, Charlie Chaplin, Thomas Newman, Danny Elfman, Terence Blanchard, Joseph Conlon, Marc Sharman, David Arnold and Dominic Frontiere. Admittedly, this is silly, but it was quite enjoyable to put together. In any case, I hope you'll enjoy it. —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Rudy Amaya, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Nathan Blumenfeld, Lee Wileman, Daniel Herrin, Scott Bordelon, James Alexander, Brett French, Ian Clark —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
In 2014, author, film studies academic, and film musicologist Emilio Audissino published the first edition of his book THE FILM MUSIC OF JOHN WILLIAMS. In 2021, the book's second edition was published. While focusing on John Williams' music and career by analyzing the composer's approach to writing music, the book also discussed three significant film scores in Williams' filmography: JAWS, STAR WARS, and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. In early June 2024, Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Emilio via Zoom at Linnaeus University, Sweden, where he was an Associate Professor. To commemorate the book's tenth anniversary, they discussed its origins and delved into John Williams' musical career, featuring music from many of the composer's most memorable scores. “For hardship does not spring from the soil, nor does trouble sprout from the ground. [7] Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward” (Job 5:6–7 NIV). I'd like to think that calamity will visit everyone but me, but I know it isn't true. Calamity will visit your home, and it will visit mine too. Everyone suffers. Why? Well for one thing, random selection will mean that I'll have my turn. If one out of a thousand people will get a certain disease, then I have one chance out of a thousand that it will be me. Other times, I suffer because of something stupid I've done. If I eat too much, I can't blame anyone but myself that my stomach hurts, or for gaining weight. Sometimes I suffer because Satan is attacking me. Satan is alive and well, and he will do anything he can to keep God's people from touching lives and changing the world. But sometimes, I suffer at God's hand. God uses trials to discipline, instruct and build character in me. My first reaction to trials is “Why me?” But the more I think about it, my first response should be, “Why not me?” I mean, am I not a part of the human race, and statistically, won't some bad stuff happen to me? And don't I do stupid stuff that has consequences? Why would Satan pick on everyone else and leave me alone? And doesn't God love me and want to discipline, instruct and build character in me? After my initial emotional reaction to trials, I've learned to clear my head and ask myself some questions. Is there something I need to learn from this? Am I doing something stupid that I need to stop doing? Do I need to build defenses against a satanic attack? What is God trying to teach me? In the quiet moments that follow those questions, I hear the voice of God. And when I do, the trial becomes an asset, not a liability.
When a Jewish boy turned twelve, He was “a son of the law,” taking on the full obligations of the law. If Jesus had lived within 20 miles of Jerusalem, it would have been his obligation to attend the Passover feast, but he didn't, Jesus lived in Nazareth, about 60 miles from Jerusalem. But because his parents went to Jerusalem every year for the Passover, and because he was now old enough to go, Jesus took the long journey with his parents to Jerusalem for the Passover feast. At the feast, for the first time, Jesus celebrated the death angel “passing over” the homes of those who placed the blood of the lamb on their doorposts in Egypt. Later, Jesus, “the lamb slain before the foundation of the world” would fall into the hands of the Roman soldiers after celebrating the Passover for the last time with his disciples in the upper room. I don't know if memories of that first Passover celebration wafted through his memory as he celebrated the Passover for the last time on the day he would be betrayed. In the midst of their meal, Jesus took some unleavened bread and held it up, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” In the Passover meal, the bread celebrated the people's deliverance from Egyptian bondage. But at the Last Supper, Jesus reinterpreted it to celebrate the Christian's deliverance from eternal bondage. When Jesus handed the cup to the disciples, they naturally would have thought of the blood of the lamb smeared on the doorpost of their ancestors' homes in Egypt. As the disciples drank the wine, they remembered the blood covenant. But Jesus reinterpreted the wine to symbolize a new covenant. In the Lord's Supper, Jesus' blood now symbolizes more than salvation from a single night of terror, instead, it celebrates eternal salvation. At his first Passover, I don't know if Jesus was aware that He was “the lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world,” but I'm certain he knew it at his last one. After dining with his disciples, Jesus walked out into the night-into His destiny. And in doing so, he ensured our eternity. It was a night that was different from any other night.
A conversation with Jim Wilson, the legendary piano technician, award-winning recording artist and author of Tuned In: Memoirs of a Piano Man. Wilson grew up in 1970s Amarillo before heading to Southern California to pursue a music career. He ended up becoming a "piano tuner for the stars" before helping develop the highly influential MIDI-adapter for the acoustic piano, and then composing and recording chart-topping piano works. Wilson tells host Jason Boyett about the journey into his multiple careers, his friendships with celebrities like Paul McCartney and Elton John, and how growing up in Amarillo gave birth to a lifetime in music and entertainment. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
In this episode, CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO pays tribute to a genuine soundtrack hero and pioneer… Intrada Records founder, Douglass Fake, who passed away at the age of 72 on July 13, 2024. Who was Douglass Fake? Well, one of Doug's closest friends and colleagues, Joe Sikoryak, wrote a beautiful obituary a few days after Doug's passing on Facebook. You can read it HERE! I personally never met Doug, but I did communicate with him and Roger Fiegelson, Intrada's executive producer, many times when requesting albums to play on my soundtrack show, which began in 1996. Doug and the rest of the crew at Intrada have been supporting the show for over 25 years, and I do remember Doug telling me that if I ever needed anything, I should call or email him or Roger and they'd send whatever I requested down immediately. It didn't matter if it was a new release or a release that came out ten years ago; if they had it in stock, they'd send it down. We planned to release this episode a few weeks ago but a few things popped up that slowed down production (work and illnesses). On top of that, the fine folks at Intrada Records were guests on Robert Emmett's soundtrack radio program "The Norman Bates Memorial Soundtrack Show," where they produced their own three-hour tribute show to Doug on Saturday August 24, 2024. So, not to step on any toes, I decided to delay the release of my own tribute show to today. So, on today's show, we'll be playing not only selections from Intrada's extensive soundtrack library, but also messages of remembrance from fans such as Amer Zahid, Chris Malone, Ian Clark, Jason Drury, Jim Wilson, Nick Zwar, Lee Wileman, and Victor Field. Doug's was a legend in the soundtrack community and we owe him a debt of gratitude for bringing much joy into our lives. Thank you, Doug. You will be missed. Enjoy the show! PS – During the program, you'll hear me mention that Chris Malone produced a heartfelt tribute to Doug on YouTube. You can see that video by clicking HERE! I also mentioned an episode of The Goldsmith Odyssey dedicated to the production of Intrada Records RIO CONCHOS recording. You can listen to that episode HERE! —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Rudy Amaya, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Nathan Blumenfeld, Lee Wileman, Daniel Herrin, Scott Bordelon, James Alexander, Brett French, Ian Clark —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
On Sunday, June 16th, 2024, Jason Drury traveled to London's Barbican Centre to watch and listen to music performed by the world's greatest film music orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra. The evening celebrated the orchestra's 90th anniversary of performing film scores. Under the direction of the equally great Dirk Brossé, they performed suites from twenty scores, some well-known, some underrated, all pure quality. Listening to all that wonderful music gave Jason an idea. Why not produce an Archive Show celebrating the music of the LSO featuring scores all performed by this wonderful ensemble? So, that's what we are going to do today. In addition, as with the concert, Jason will play one cue from the film or a small suite. And, because it is a ‘concert', you will hear several of these suites with as little contribution from your trusted host as possible. Welcome to Cinematic Sound Radio's celebration of the music of the London Symphony Orchestra.
