Juicebumps is a zany no-wave tinged post punk four piece based in Oakland, CA. With an ever-changing and strong visual aesthetic, Juicebump's look, performance and supporting graphic design carries the band as much as their heavy synthesizer base and angular guitar hooks. Their new record Jumbo is out October 13 on Rocks In you Head Records. In this episode, Joe talks with Parker, Spencer and Shaina on the origin of Juicebumps, how a fear of boredom drives their artistic output and why the goal of the band is to make people move on the dance floor. Durant cette heure de diggin' reportage, vous découvrirez son univers, la folk qui a berçé son enfance et son locavorisme musical. 

On Episode 47 of STARK REALITY with Host James Dier aka $mall ¢hange, this time around the tattered red carpet gets rolled out to Philly for special guest DIRTY SOUTH JOE.  He is 3 decades deep in the game, has thrown a number of different parties in different styles, from yacht rock to dubstep to his Drake themed night which gets thousands of heads. We talk about him starting out DJing growing up in DC and spinning at the legendary 930 Club, to NYC in the 90s/00s (where I first met him), to moving to Philly in the early Oos and becoming the buyer at Armands, the main hip hop store there. Joe ran Ol' Head Records through Diplo's Mad Decent label and put out some early Jersey Club and Baltimore Breaks. His Luvstep series with Fluffatronix was an exploration into the soulful side of Dubstep. He currently has an Anime party that mixes DJing and VJing together. Dirty South Joe is also Palestinian, something I learned years after knowing him, and we talk about changing perceptions on Palestine. He also has a podcast about DJing with fellow selectah Low Budget. To say Joe keeps busy is an extreme understatement. Just a crazy music head who is always throwing shit out there. Top ppls. Hydra Head a été fondée en 1993 au Nouveau-Mexique par Aaron Turner alors qu’il était encore au lycée. On le connaît comme étant le leader des excellents Isis, groupe culte de post-metal post-hardcore, actif de la fin des années 90 jusqu’à 2010. En 1995, Turner déménage à Boston pour entrer dans une école d'art. Il reçoit une démo d’un groupe local nommé Vent. Il décide alors de sortir leur single qui deviendra le 1er album à sortir sur Hydra Head. Le label grandi notamment en accueillant des groupes locaux tels que Roswell, Corrin, Piebald et Converge. Un groupe qui contribuera à la renommé naissante d’Hydra Head. En 1999, Turner obtient son diplôme universitaire, Hydra Head devient alors son job à plein temps. Hydra Head sera reconnu mondialement par la qualité de ses albums que le label publiera souvent en séries limitées, offrant souvent un design élaboré ainsi que des vinyles colorés de qualité. Durant toute son existence Hydra Head se sera distingué pour sa capacité à toujours soutenir et dénicher de nouveaux groupes novateur. De Neurosis à Isis, en passant par Torche, Boris, Converge, Sunn O))), Harvey Milk ou Jesu – pour ne citer que les plus connus – tous auront bénéficié de la passion et de l’engagement sans faille de l’équipe du label. En 2011, Aaron Turner s’installe à Los Angeles, déménageant le label de son ancienne maison de Boston pour l’installer dans de nouveaux locaux en Californie. Après 17 années d'activité, en 2012 , Aaron Turner annonce qu’Hydra Head ne signera plus de nouveaux artistes pour une raison uniquement financière et non par simple manque d’envie ou une quelconque résignation. Le label continue cependant de rester opérationnel, en maintenant son back catalogue pour rembourser ses dettes importantes du à l’intégrité créative du label et à la crise du disque du début des années 2010. Finalement, en 2017, Hydra Head sort «Thin Black Duke» d'Oxbow, un excellent album qui devait à l’origine sortir sur le label, avant que celui-ci ne décide de ne plus sortir de nouveaux disques. Oxbow n'étant pas en mesure de trouver un autre label pour l’éditer, Turner revient sur sa décision. Hydra Head s’ouvre alors à la publication d'albums au cas par cas. Hydra Head est partie d’une base de groupes plus Metal, Hardcore et au fil du temps le label a évolué vers des styles beaucoup plus avant-gardistes et novateurs. Les groupes de leur catalogue sont des groupes singuliers avec leur identité propre. Hydra Head est un label qui propose un large palettes de genres à l’image de Relapse Records ou d’Ipecac Recordings le label de Mike Patton. Un label affilié à Hydra Head qui a notamment sorti les albums d'Isis. Hydra Head est un label à l'image de son gérant, très éclectique et tourné vers l'expérimentation et même si le label n'a pas été le premier à proposer du Drone, du Sludge ou du Mathcore, on se rend compte que le label n'était pas loin d'être un pionnier à chaque fois. Son importance dans la sphère Metal et même pour la musique en général, est indéniable. Ape List #5 – Grrrl Power ! En ce mercredi 8 mars 2017, j'ai eu envie de célébrer la Journée internationale des droits des femmes en vous proposant une sélection de morceaux chanté par des femmes. J'adore le chant féminin et j'ai simplement eu envie de dégainer les 8 premiers morceaux qui me passait par la tête hier soir et c'est tout ! Comme pour chaque Ape List, cette sélection n'a absolument rien de définitif. Si j'avais enregistré cet épisode avant-hier, il y a fort à parier que j'aurais choisi 8 titres et 8 groupes différents ! Une fois n'est pas coutume, on va attaquer avec du R&B, un classique de chez classique de la Motown, à savoir (Love is like a) Heat Wave de Martha & The Vandellas, sorti en 1963 – et c'est l'occasion de faire un clin d'oeil à On s'écoute ça tout de suite, dont vous pouvez retrouver les épisodes ici ! On continue avec la pop/shoegaze de The Joy Formidable et le morceau Cradle, issu de leur premier EP (A Ballon Called Moaning) sorti fin 2008 chez Black Bell. Forcément, vu la thématique, il fallait bien que je sorte un morceau de L7. C'était pas évident de choisir et finalement, je me suis dit que Andres, sorti en 1994 chez Slash Rds sur l'abum Hungry for Stink - ce titre ! tout un programme !!! On enchaine dans le même délire musical avec Starfish et le morceau Run Around, extrait de l'album Stellar Sonic Solutions, sorti chez Trance Syndicate et produit par Bob Mould ! Pour info, ce titre est également dispo sur le deuxième volume de la compilation No Seattle, éditée par Soul Jazz Records. Ensuite, on quitte les État-Unis pour revenir en France, avec 5 seconds of your conversation de Drive Blind - produit par David Weber et enregistré au studio des Forces Motrices à Genève - sorti d'abord en 1996 chez Pias puis réédité en 2016 en double LP par Head Records, en version remasterisée (bon, je vous ai mis la version CD de 1996, parce qu'on est des vrais!). Et on reste en France avec Not Like You de Unlogistic, extrait du split 7'' avec Seanews, sorti en 2003 chez Happy Dick Milk et Rejuvenation. Ça va tout droit et à fond la caisse !!! On repart sur des routes plus sinueuses, plus grasses mais épiques, avec Hems Alee et leur Tumescence, issu de leur troisième LP, sorti chez Sargent House en 2013. On terminera avec un sujet difficile et le morceau Touch Me Again de Petrol Girls, extrait de l'album Talk of Violence, sorti en 2016 chez Bomber Music.
