With the first installment, Triptych: Part One, set to drop this Tuesday, April 23rd on the Pink Moon via Neurot Recordings, Steve was a recent guest on the Vulgar Display of Podcast in which he talks about the album and creative process.Triptych represents Von Till's exploration of a unique musical approach, weaving together diverse influences and musical elements into a cohesive tapestry that resonates with ancestral echoes. Recorded and mixed at The Crow's Nest in North Idaho, Von Till employs an array of instruments and techniques, including guitars, synths, percussion, and more, to craft each movement with meticulous care. Here are the visualizers for both "Psilosynth" and "Give Your Heart To The Hawk".Part One features guest contributions from luminaries such as Dave French of Yob, Al Cisneros of Sleep and OM fame, and John Goff of Cascadia Bagpiper. With masterful mastering by James Plotkin and striking artwork by Henry Hablak, Triptych: Part One is set to be released on various formats, including LP, CD, and digital platforms, with a special Bone White + Black Galaxy Effect vinyl variant packaged in a unique dub style jacket. At its core, Triptych is a testament to Von Till's deep engagement with the musical lineage that precedes him, offering a glimpse into the primordial forces that shape our collective consciousness. Drawing inspiration from ancient sites and folklore, Triptych is a sonic meditation on the enduring otherworldliness that resides within us all. Triptych invites us to transcend the constraints of time and immerse ourselves in a world where music becomes a portal to the sublime. With Triptych: Part One set to launch on April 23rd, HARVESTMAN invites us to join them on a voyage of sonic discovery, where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur, and where the echoes of the past reverberate into the future.www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersIt's hard to believe any international band could have been around long enough to earn legendary status yet not have toured this country before. Not that Australians feel entitled or big-headed and therefore expect such bands to tour here - quite the opposite. It's more because Australians generally need some form of tangible connection with a band or musician before being able to usher those words of adulation. So basically we need to have some form of sonic ownership, which, I guess, is a little entitled but let's not split hairs shall we?Because the point of this conversation is that legendary US metal/hardcore pioneers Cave In have finally locked in some dates Down Under, coming out with post metal outfit The Ocean and Danish label mates LLRR for a string of shows starting in June.A band considered by many to have been ahead of their time, Cave In were instrumental in introducing metalcore to the masses before exploring a plethora of musical avenues including psychedelic rock infused metal. With the band enjoying renewed success following the addition of Converge bassist Nate Newton to cover the tragic loss of Caleb Schofield in 2018, Cave In released Heavy Pendulum in 2022 which brought together the many and varied musical influences explored over their six previous albums and introduced the band to a fresh legion of fans that continues to grow to this day.HEAVY recently spoke with singer/guitarist Stephen Brodsky about their first ever trip to Australia, starting with why the band has neglected us for so long."That is a great question," he laughed. "It will be my second time over there. Another band that I play in called Old Man Gloom toured there with Converge about 10 years ago, but I do remember in my travels there definitely is some Cave In fans saying when are you gonna bring Cave In over, we've been waiting, and that was ten years ago (laughs). Sometimes it's just… especially with international tours for bands at our level to work out something where we're not just breaking even or eating it is hard. Those offers don't come our way very often, so we were able to work something out for this one, and we're all very stoked on all the logistics and the inner workings of the offer itself. It made sense, so we're finally doing it. The idea just had to marinate a little bit."In the full interview, Stephen talks more about their first tour and what they are expecting, what we can expect from them, coming with The Ocean and LLRR and why the three bands will work well together, the early days of Cave In and where they fit in, how they were ahead of their time, their debut album Until Your Heart Stops and if he is still happy with it, their musical tastes and how each influences the band's music, reforming after the death of Caleb and the difficulties associated with coming back, Heavy Pendulum and the way it covers the back catalogue of Cave In and more.

Stephen Brodsky should be a household name in our realms because he's been in famous bands for close to 30 years - Cave-In, Converge (YES! for a very short time), Droneflower, Old Man Gloom and Mutoid Man to drop a few. His voice and his guitar playing has flavored many of our most beloved records. The last band, Mutoid Man, has released a new record called Mutants a few weeks ago. You can check out our review here, but for us here at VoS that's not enough, so we talked to Stephen about the new songs, the influences on Mutoid Man and much more. Mutants is the band's third full-length (not counting a few shorter releases, including 2014's Helium Head) but comes after a few years' silence. We find out what led to this short break, why Stephen loves Prince, which Van Halen album he prefers and why. We talk comics and Indiana Jones and to what extent Mutoid Man is a “fun band”. Enjoy the interview! Shirts of the day: Prince and Mastodon If you want to support Veil of Sound, there are two ways: First of all - be a friend, tell a friend! Spread the word about our work. Okay, now everyone should have gotten it - we are going for separate video-interviews with every member of the most decisive hardcore band this side of the millennium, Converge. However, we don't want to focus too much on the band itself, but on other topics related to it or sometimes not. This time we talk to Nate about the question of ethics in hardcore - how important are they and how important is our notion of ethics itself. In the end we arrive at a very differentiated picture of it all. Well, we talked with Jacob about the importance of visual art and then we had Kurt tell us something about the intricacies of production and everything that comes along with it. While we are still hoping to get Ben on the show as well, this third part of our series was with Nate, who also played in several other bands that you might know like Doomriders or Old Man Gloom. So, with Converge's bass monster we talked about the notion of ethics and morals in hardcore and how those things have changed for him over the decades. A really interesting talk, enjoy!

K2 jafnvel? Mount Olympus? Mariana skurðurinn? Þetta er hnullungurinn. Krúnudjásnið sem finnst á nánast hverju heimili landsins. Platan sem allir þekkja. Þetta er mest selda rokkplata mannkynssögunnar. Þetta er Back In Black. Frá Bandaríkjum Norður-Ameríku kemur svo hinn fjölhæfi og ævinlega sjarmerandi tónlistarmaður Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man, New Idea Society og Old Man Gloom) til að taka þátt í geðshræringunni.Alltaf sama platan er boði Matarbúðarinnar Nándin, Austurgötu 47. Our guest is a fixture of heavy music, the one and only Aaron Turner. Since the late 1990s, Aaron has been an integral mainstay of the extreme music underground; with a resume that boasts such notable and influential acts as Sumac, Old Man Gloom, Isis, and Mammifer. Through his musical endeavors and artistic endeavors, as well as his curatorial activities in Hydra Head and SIGE records, he has been instrumental in shaping the cultural landscape of metal and beyond. We got into a long conversation that touches on the transcendental qualities of pure volume, artistic intention and responsibility, and embracing influences from outside of your immediate sphere without falling into cultural appropriation. Aaron brings a kindness and thoughtful introspection to these subjects that is as refreshing as it is necessary. = See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Just over a year ago, the metal community lost one of our most colossal innovators, Caleb Scofield. An unrestrained creative force, the bassist and singer helped in outlining the blueprint of metalcore in the late 90s in aid of his involvement with alternative metal chieftains, Cave In. A regular collaborator with Converge and Isis, Caleb’s contribution to not only his primary band’s success, but with post-hardcore experimentalists Old Man Gloom and post-sludge revisionists Zozobra, continues to resonate and influence modern players to this day. But while his passing will never fully heal over, the boys from below, Matt and Tom take more of a celebratory retrospective of Scofield’s life and cultural impact. With Cave In’s last ever record with Caleb’s involvement, The Final Transmission, set to drop within the forthcoming weeks, let’s use this opportunity to remember a man with a bass tone like the ringing of Satan’s bells and a voice like...more ringing of Satan’s bells.

Nate Newton of Converge and Old Man Gloom is an essential musical and human element of some of the most iconic American hardcore bands to ever rattle speakers, sear through pits, scream, squall and soothe hearts with their serrated edges and rough-hewn soul. He and his merry bands of riff-wielding musical animals joined forces in the fertile Massachusetts hardcore scene which birthed and cross-pollinated a slew of bands who continue to drive hooks into new listeners. Here we delve into the rich history of Nate's musical trajectory and the underground scene that made these bands, the real story behind some of their most significant records, their spirit animals, their creative journey and the loss of talented and beloved Old Man Gloom bandmate (and Cave In legend) Caleb Scofield and what made him such a special human being.

We also discuss Benji Webbe, frontman for Skindred, who mocked the young women of Babymetal at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, It's pretty obvious that his attempt at humor fell flat and appeared racist, but did his "apology" via Twitter pacify Babymetal's fans? Or did he actually make it worse by giving a halfhearted statement? If you screw up what makes for a good apology, is it more important to be truthful? The kids are heading back to school and Edgeland is heading back to your podcast feed. This week on the show Bill rambles about the existential crisis, of work, money, and pursuing the things you actually want to do. It is sort of like that scene in Billy Madison when the principal ridicules Billy for his ridiculous answer in the trivia competition. In the interview portion of the show a last minute cancellation forced the edge guest Nate Newton to carry the show alone and he does a fantastic job. Nate talks about the ridiculousness of Old Man Gloom, the drinkers who love Doomriders, and people who show their appreciation through tattoos. This episode is once again brought to you by the fine folks over at DRKLGHT Clothing.

This week my guest is Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders, Old Man Gloom), Nate and I met when I Exist toured with Doomriders in Australia a couple years ago and I thought it would be cool to have another international voice on the podcast. We had a great chat about Nate's musical development, Converge and being a father. Enjoy!

As the world turns we all get a bit older, and not even Edgeland host Bill Conway can escape it. This week on the podcast Bill goes over what he wants for his 31st birthday. So get out your fucking checkbook. In the interview portion of the show Bill talks with Tom Whalen of Washed Up Records and one of the hosts of Stu and Tom's Podcast. In the non edge column Bill talks with Aaron Turner of Isis, Old Man Gloom, Sumac and Hydra Head Records about how nothing is happening in Santa Fe, his move to Boston, and what might be the lost art of album layouts. Tell all of your friends to give it a listen, or else.

Get ready for an epic NFL showdown this weekend by relaxing with an episode of Edgeland podcast. This week on the show Bill plays two recent stand up comedy sets. One that guys relatively well, and one that goes poorly. Both are humorous in their own regard. In the interview section of the show Bill talks With Tim McMahon of Mouthpiece and the blog Double Cross. Tim talks about the early influence of Thrasher magazine, having friends introduce you to so many new things, and the aesthetic appeal of hardcore. In the non edge column Bill talks with Caleb Scofield of Cave In and Old Man Gloom about growing up in suburban New Hampshire, Crossbearer, and how personal the straight edge is. This episode as always is brought to you by the fine folks over at The Hard Times.

Another Friday is finally here and that means the weekend is so close you can almost taste it and Edgeland is here again to brainwash you into hating attacking everyone that disagrees with you. Today on the show Bill gives very straight forward and simple advice to anyone that wants to try stand up comedy. It is very simple to start, hard to do well, and often times more trouble than its worth. In the interview portion of the show Bill talks with Nate Newton of Converge, Doomriders, Old Man Gloom, and the Calavera Conspiracy about growing up skateboarding, Virginia Beach beef, and the benefits of vegetarianism. In the non edge column Bill talks with Skott Daltonic of the band Daltonic. Skott discusses growing up in the Boston area, the feeling of when people stop being vegan compared to breaking edge, and why he wouldn't X up despite the fact he has lived an edge life for the past 15 years. A very interesting episode that should not be missed.
