In this conversation, Marshall and Nick discuss various topics related to automotive detailing, including the peculiar prevalence of white walls in Tulsa, the causes of windshield fog, and the importance of proper glass cleaning techniques. They also discuss the significance of lighting in detailing work, the selection of ceramic coatings for different surfaces, and the nuances of applying coatings to trailers and boats. The conversation also touches on new applications for coatings, such as sneakers, and concludes with a light-hearted discussion about trophies and airport security changes. In this conversation, the speakers discuss the current challenges faced by businesses, particularly in the detailing industry, as they navigate adjustments in customer acquisition and service expectations. They emphasize the importance of proper maintenance and realistic customer education regarding product longevity and warranties. The discussion also touches on the need for businesses to adapt to changing market conditions and the significance of effective communication with customers to ensure satisfaction and trust. Takeaways The prevalence of white walls in Tulsa is a mystery worth exploring. Windshield fog is often caused by off-gassing from plastics in new cars. Proper glass cleaning techniques are essential to avoid customer complaints. Lighting plays a crucial role in detailing and paint correction. Choosing the right ceramic coating depends on the user's experience level. Porous surfaces require thicker application of coatings for effectiveness. Starting with a forgiving ceramic coating like Stack is recommended for beginners. Different surfaces, like trailers and boats, have varying quality and coating needs. New applications for coatings are emerging, including for sneakers. Changes in airport security reflect a shift towards accommodating businesses. Businesses are facing rocky times and need to adapt. Customer acquisition is crucial for business survival. Warranties can create unrealistic expectations for customers. Proper maintenance is essential for product longevity. Understanding the prep work is key to effective detailing. Over-promising can lead to customer dissatisfaction. Realistic communication with customers builds trust. Stacking products can enhance car protection. Common sense is vital in evaluating product claims. The detailing industry must debunk prevalent myths. Victor Mariachi is representing Chicano Hip-Hop 4 Raza str8 out of Atlanta. Our interview was interesting... gives an outside view on what drives a Rap Artist in present day society through a Chicano paradigm. Attempting to fill a void in the Hip-Hop Community is a strong means of expression for Chicanos. His talent & perserverence I believe is part of his character that transcends Chicano Identity. Our conversation was firme porque this young Vato keeps it real and understands the impact of his message. He might surprise you with his powerful delivery or content as a Lyricist. His personal style is a studied array of some of the greatest influencers to have pioneered Hip-Hop. He along with only a few others carry the Crux of Hip-Hop's Chicano Legacy for the next generation so check out the interview for more details. We need more talented individuals to master the art form since so many of us are listening. It is our obligation 2 support fellow Chicanos when they represent our values and place in the culture of Hip-Hop. Only within this reciprocity should we expect to influence this Music Genre. In return we could own part of the Hip-Hop Industry especially as more artist personify our message as our equity stake. Don't just take my word for it.... Check him out on Spotify or Youtube under "Victor Mariachi"! We definitely need more motivated individuals to express a place for Chicanos in Hip-Hop and he's better than most of the Chicano Rappers out in the game right now. So don't sleep on this brother just because he's not big time yet because I have a feeling he will be! This interview took place on September 22, 2021. We had the pleasure of interviewing Hollis over Zoom video! Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/producer Hollis (full name Hollis Wong-Wear) announces ‘Subliminal,' her debut solo album out this fall. The forthcoming record was recorded during the pandemic shutdown, with artistic collaborations held over Zoom. The new single “Less Like,” produced by producer/recording artist Sweater Beats (Lizzo, Panic! At the Disco) is out today. The slick alt-pop track, reminiscent of a Clairio song, showcases Hollis' “hypnotic” (Billboard) vocals.  The video for “Less Like” sees Hollis sporting eccentric 70s style dresses and jumpsuits as she traverses through flamboyantly colorful shape-shifting scenes. Shot and directed by Hollis' close friend, frequent collaborator, and recording artist KO aka Koala, the visual was created by a team of queer and POC women, continuing Hollis' tradition of collaborating with underrepresented talent.Hollis, who added “recording engineer” to her resume with ‘Subliminal,' teamed up with Macklemore collaborator Ryan Lewis as co-writer on her upcoming single “Let Me Not” (Hollis earned a 2014 Grammy nomination for her work on Macklemore and Lewis' The Heist, including vocals and songwriting for their hit “White Walls” and video production for “Thrift Shop” and “Wings”). Single “Grace Lee” is a moving, introspective tribute to the late Chinese-American social activist Grace Lee Boggs and features writing credits from Hollis' frequent collaborator and live accompanist Chucky Kim. Community support, equality, and grassroots mobilization drive many of Hollis' initiatives. The tour concept for her February 2020 EP half-life, “Hollis Does Brunch,” was designed to unite artists, small business owners, and organizers in person; during the pandemic, she pivoted to live-streamed Sunday gatherings. The series raised close to $30,000 for COVID mutual aid, Black-led organizing, and community causes, leading the Seattle Times to call it “an unexpected grassroots fundraiser.”Hollis' early days as a teen slam poet and spoken word artist — along with inspiration from Seattle's grassroots hip hop scene and its intersection with social justice — laid the groundwork for her ongoing appearances as a speaker and moderator. Hollis speaks on topics such as empowered creativity and independent artistry. She is a host and writer for Breaking Down the Biz with Splice (“What is Music Copyright?”) and the lead producer of Take Creative Control: The Series, a program that features artists of color and their personal and professional stories as it relates to intellectual property law. She is also a co-curator of Bravespace, a compilation of Asian American recording artists and composers presented by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, due for release this fall (and including Hollis' track “Subliminal”). About Hollis Wong-Wear:Hollis is a modern-day Renaissance woman: recording artist, vocalist, songwriter, creative producer, and community advocate. With her roots in spoken word and slam poetry through the nationally recognized Youth Speaks program, Hollis is passionate about how creativity and the arts fuel and shape civic discourse and is dedicated to lending her voice and capacities towards vibrant social equity. Known best for her collaborations with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ("White Walls," for which she was Grammy-nominated), Shawn Wasabi ("Otter Pop") and her band The Flavr Blue, Hollis' solo music -- which she calls existential alt or "sad girl jams" -- showcases her singular voice and rich, daring lyricism. Her debut solo EP half-life was released in February 2020; her self-directed video for her single "All My Weight" premiered on Billboard, and she was named one of Pigeons & Planes' Best New Artists 2020 upon its release. Originally from the Bay Area, Hollis Wong-Wear emerged from the independent hip hop scene in Seattle and has become an in-demand songwriter in her current home of Los Angeles. Alongside her music, Hollis is an impassioned advocate for empowered creativity, a Google Next Gen Policy Leader, and is a frequent featured speaker on the intersection of art, activism, and creators' rights. We want to hear from you! Not only do Aboriginal parents face the usual challenges facing all new parents, they also carry with them the devastating impacts of colonisation and the ongoing effects of the Stolen Generation. Far from being ancient history, the threat of removal from home care is an ever-present and ongoing source of anxiety for Aboriginal families, with their children currently being removed from home at a rate that is over 10 times the national average. This is just one of many statistics that highlight the entrenched racism that is inherent in our systems, causing ongoing inequities in health outcomes and in our society. White Australians live, work, and birth in a system that is built by them and for them. For Indiginous and Torres Straight Islander People, the reality of colonisation and the legacy of the White Australia Policy is something that must be confronted, and survived, every day. The impacts of this on every aspect of their birth and parenting experience is profound. We are so grateful to our guests Lily and Jordy for sharing their story with us.

White Walls is a Citra IPA brewed with White Wheat, creating a softer, fuller-bodied IPA. Highlighted by its use of 100% Citra hops, it imparts big aromas and flavors of tropical fruit and fresh citrus, complemented by medium bitterness and lively carbonation. Institution Ale Company became Camarillo’s first brewery and tasting room in 2013. Starting as a nanobrewery, it brewed only three 100-gallon batches of beer every week. Now, their brewing operation has nearly maxed out, and are looking to grow in order to meet their high demand. In this episode of "Keen On", Andrew is joined by Judy Batalion, the author of "The Light of Days", to discuss a largely untold story of the holocaust, the story of the young Jewish women who formed a resistance movement and fought back against the Nazis. Judy was born and raised in Montreal, where she grew up speaking English, French, Yiddish and Hebrew, and trying to stay warm. She studied the history of science at Harvard then moved to London to pursue a PhD in art history. All the while, she worked as a curator, researcher, editor, lecturer, comic, MC, script-reader, dramaturge, performer, actor, producer, translator, muffins server, and a temp – at a temp agency. Eventually, Judy transformed these experiences into material, and wrote essays and articles for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Vogue, the Forward, Salon, the Jerusalem Post and many other publications. Her stories about family relationships, the generational transmission of trauma, pathological hoarding and militant minimalism came together in her book White Walls: A Memoir About Motherhood, Daughterhood, and the Mess in Between (NAL/Penguin, 2016). White Walls was optioned by Warner Brothers for whom Judy is currently developing the TV series “Cluttered.” Back in 2007, during her phase of career promiscuity, Judy was doing research on strong Jewish women at the British Library when she happened to come across a dusty, old Yiddish book. Freuen in di Ghettos (Women in the Ghettos), a Yiddish thriller about “ghetto girls” who hid revolvers in teddy bears, bribed Nazis with whiskey and pastry, and blew up German supply trains, became the inspiration for The Light of Days: The Untold Story of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler’s Ghettos (William Morrow/HarperCollins, 2021). The Light of Days will be published across Europe, and in Brazil and Israel, and was optioned by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, for whom Judy is co-writing the screenplay. (Gey veys… Who knew that Yiddish would become her cash cow?) Judy lives with her husband and three children in New York City. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hey there! This week's tea talk features my cinnamon-apple tea and in the life update I discuss in person school and having a slower week. To introduce this week's topic, I give a definition of romanticizing your life, where I discovered this ideology, and the structure for this episode. I then turn to my experience, where I describe my tricky relationship with romanticization, how I currently treat it, and how it has benefitted me. Next, I teach you how to apply this mentality: shifting your mindset into prioritising yourself! Afterward I look at two main limitations: not harming others and doing this for yourself. I conclude with some takeaways, talk about my favourite podcast, online creator, and song, before signing off. Interviews by Brainard Carey

Geoffrey Moss defines himself as “… simply a working New York artist”; painter, photographer of motorcycle culture (The Biker Code), former art restorer, Metropolitan Museum of Art, syndicated captionless political satirist of MOSSPRINTS, conceptual illustrator, children’s book author, set designer, essayist and university teacher. Ultimately all my work is about drawing…the purity of drawing in both paintings and works on paper. Over time, the work has become comfortably less representational, focusing more on the reduction of shapes, forms to reflect the interaction of color, the energy of paint; the way the paint – the physicality of painting -- documents the personal dialogue of spontaneous movement, finding form as a visual statement as in the architecture of water.  It’s about my dedication to the anatomy of shapes I arrange and rearrange. I work in series, a process beginning with sufficient numbers of drawings to continue idea-to-canvas. My lexicon stems from restrictions of the Bauhaus, 18th C. erotic Japanese prints, Russian Constructivism, religious symbols, Chinese medicine labels and vintage comic books. Experience confirms my personal truth, that art begets art, feeding a compulsion to generate and continue the dance. I received Pulitzer Prize nominations for MOSSPRINTS, (Watergate and 9/11) resulting in the publication of a collection of my early works, The Art and Politics of Geoffrey Moss, as well as an invitation to paint Bus with White Walls for the Smithsonian Institution exhibition In the Spirit of Martin. Moss holds degrees from The University of Vermont (B.A., Distinguished Alumnus) and Yale School of Art and Architecture (B.F.A., M.F.A.). Because of the popularity of white interior walls, and white backgrounds in general on blogs and social media posts, we have grown accustomed to thinking of white as a go-to backdrop for many of our interior spaces.  White is familiar, bright and offers a clean background for highlighting home furnishings and features.  The fresh, clean background is why most museums and galleries use white walls to showcase artwork. White can be a great choice for traditional and contemporary spaces. But to some people, white can come off as cold, boring and overdone.  This week we’ll talk about the pros and cons of white walls. In Episode 80 of the Davos’ Fingers podcast, we wrap up The Mystery Knight novella and the last of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compilation as Dunk recovers from a bad outing at the tourney.  He is forced to give up his sword, armor and horse, only to find he is also missing his squire.  Dunk tries to uncover the mystery of the missing Egg only to find and unravel a deeper plot to place a Blackfyre on the Iron Throne of Westeros. Bloodraven is the topic of Who’s That Dragon this week, as we take a deeper look at Brynden Rivers, including his time up at the wall, and what may be in store for him in the future of ASOIAF.  We follow this up with what might be the final Davos After Dark for while, so buckle in and enjoy!  Also joining us for Davos After Dark is special guest Elena from the Small Council of Ice and Fire Con.  We talk a little bit about the con, what makes it special and why you (yes YOU) should consider coming to Ice and Fire Con this year.  More information to be found at iceandfirecon.com or you can reach out directly to Elena at @TheBearHeir on twitter! Musings with Montse: Artists and Their (Honest) Stories

Hollis Wong-Wear is a songwriter, musician, speaker, and community advocate based in Los Angeles. She is the lead vocalist of the electronic R&B trio The Flavr Blue, and was GRAMMY nominated for Album of the Year for her vocal performance of “White Walls” on The Heist by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. In this episode, Hollis shares why her intention of creating real impact through her art is so important to her, and tells her story of how spoken word poetry is where she first honed her storytelling skills. Hollis shares a time in her life when perceptively everything looked good but on the inside she felt really down on herself. She tells us what helped her through that time and I think it’s so important to hear - not only because we all need to be reminded that perception is not reality but also because she shares really practical advice on how to get through those times we feel empty inside. We talk about the collaborative and powerful relationship of mentorship, and a lot more! Hollis also shares some of her favorites - a person, place, food, and book! White Walls: Starting in the early-2010’s, White Walls been tagged as as a Shoegaze band, but I think that’s discounting the whole picture. The 3-piece band consist of Dylan Black & Fuj McLean on guitars, and Rory Heane on Drums. The lack of a bass player is not missed in this trio’s sound, as the thunderous guitars more than make up the frequency band that makes you bob your head. Releasing two EP’s in 2011, and their 2012 self-titled debut, they’ve slowly but surely been winning new followers that come in contact with their sound. Recently they were up in Queensland for the Sonic Masala Festival and we managed to capture the raw essence of the band live. Recorded & Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at the Greenslopes Bowls Club on the 14th of March, 2015. Secret Black: Secret Black is an instrumental group consisting of Adam Cadell (The Scrapes), Jamie Curran (Ghost Notes, Built From Sticks), Adrian Marsh (4ZZZ’s Rusted Satellites, Ghost Notes) and Dave Ryan (Dempefka). This recording is currently the only widely available release of any of Secret Black’s music, and is taken from a live performance at Brisbane DIY space The Waiting Room back in May 2014. The one-off performance was curated in support of Ambitious Lovers, who had reunited for that particular night, and which set was featured on Episode 115 of Live Delay. Recorded & Mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at the Waiting Room on the 31st of May, 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 1 May 2015. Then Marc LeBlanc and Brian Andrews talk about how Marc is turning Japanese, he thinks he’s turning Japanese, he really thinks so….The intro discusses how Philip von Zweck is a thug.Anthony, please, dear God, talk in to the mic, seriously. The following blurbs were shamelessly stolen from PVZ’s site:Marc Fischer is 1/3 of the group Temporary Services, 1/11th of Mess Hall- an experimental cultural center in Roger’s Park (where he co-organizes the Hardcore Histories series), and an artist who curated the prison-themed exhibition “Captive Audience? at Gallery 400 earlier this year. In addition to believing thatvinyl remains the superior format for the appreciation of recorded music, Fischer still refuses to own a fucking cell phone.Anthony Elms overcame his youth as just another punk in Michigan to become the assistant director of Gallery 400, the editor of WhiteWalls, and a writer whose works have appeared in like every freakin' magazine ever (except Artforum, whatever), plus in some exhibition catalogs for stuff that didn't happen at VONZWECK, but was still ok. He's pimped himself out at times; and participated in some panel discussions, but I think the panel discussion is always a bad idea, always. Anthony agrees. On Public Collectors:VONZWECK- as an entity, doesn’t care about art. You know it, you always have. But VONZWECK likes administration, and… stuff. Especially other people’s stuff! So does Marc Fischer. He likes stuff so much he’s started a whole new initiative to get to see it, and, being the unselfish soul that he is, to share it.It’s called Public Collectors and it is founded upon the concern that there are many types of cultural artifacts that public libraries, museums and other institutions and archives either do not collect or do not make freely accessible. Public Collectors asks people that have had the luxury to amass, organize, and inventory these materials, to help reverse this lack by making their collections public. It’s voluntary and it’s free. Not about selling, or buying and not restricted to art. It’s about getting to see something you might not have access to otherwise and exchanges of knowledge. For this - the kickoff, the ribbon cutting, Marc will be sharing one of his collections: records. That’s right actual records, long players, vinyl, what have you. Many will be on display; many more will be brought to the space for listening on request. But the idea isn’t just for you to see Marc’s stuff, it’s for you to share your collection(s) and view other peoples’. Other collections are online and many more will be added soon at www.publiccollectors.org.

Despite (or perhaps because of) its bad reputation, the Tenderloin has become a haven for some of the best ethnic eateries, dive bars and alternative art spaces in the city. In May 2007, GALLERY CRAWL visited two adjoining galleries in this colorful San Francisco hood, White Walls and The Shooting Gallery.
