Laurent Schroeder-Lebec and Trevor de Brauw of Chicago instrumental band Pelican join us on the latest episode of the BrooklynVegan podcast to discuss 10 (technically 11) albums that influenced their new album, 'Flickering Resonance,' which arrives May 16 via Run For Cover. It's Pelican's first album in six years, first with Laurent back in the band in 12 years, and first for Run For Cover, following releases on Hydra Head and Southern Lord. Though Pelican have long been grouped with metal, they came up in the musically-diverse Chicago DIY scene of the '90s, surrounded by punk, hardcore, emo, post-hardcore, and more, and the classic albums (as well as one much more recent pick) that inspired 'Flickering Resonance' reflect that. -- The BrooklynVegan Show is brought to you in part by DistroKid, a service for musicians that allows you to easily upload your music to all major streaming platforms. Temple of Angels - "Waving to the Wind" from the 2023 album Endless Pursuit on Run for Cover. It's no surprise that the gothic dream-pop of Austin, TX-based band Temple Of Angels finds inspirations from actual dreams. Their debut full-length — titled Endless Pursuit, and out now from Run For Cover — reflects both the good and bad subsconscious nighttime reflections. “Sometimes a beautiful dream will sneak in past the nightmares, which inspire a lot of my writing as well, specifically these dreams I had as a teenager that took place in a past or future life in some kind of parallel universe,” explains honey-voiced frontwoman Bre Morell. “I've been thinking about those dreams for 16+ years and they still consume me.” Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Himanta Sharma is an impeccable leader with a no-nonsense attitude and a clear motive to eradicate radical Islamism. Himanta's fresh attack on Islam has made Maulanas run for cover and rightly so. Sanjay Dixit highlights this and brings forth the right perspective.

Camp Cope - "Running With the Hurricane" from the 2022 album Running with the Hurricane on Run For Cover. Melbourne, Australia-based trio Camp Cope find the calm within the storm on their latest full-length Running with the Hurricane. While their 2018 album How to Socialise & Make Friends channeled the intensity of '90s artists like Alanis Morissette or Courtney Love, the new LP takes a quieter approach. During the pandemic, guitarist/vocalist Georgia Maq returned to her post-rock world of nursing. Her work in COVID-19 testing and vaccine administration had an impact on her songwriting. As she explained to NPR, "Before when we'd made records, it was just like, 'Let's just record us live so that when people see us live, they won't be disappointed.' This was more like, 'Well, we're all gonna die of coronavirus, so let's just try to make something quite beautiful.'"
