Episode: 142 Michael Barnhart and Suzie Sevier Join your hosts, David Pere and Alex Felice, with guests Michael and Suzie as they talk about overseas investing and the importance of aligning with the right people and team. Tune in as Michael and Suzie explain the systems and processes they've built that allow them to manage multifamily investments even when they're stationed abroad. When everybody was sent home during the lockdown, Michael and Suzie started questioning what they were going to do with the time and restrictions they're in. The two stumbled across the book, Multiple Streams of Income from a mini book club they started. Then and there, Michael and Suzie knew that they could do it too! In this episode, Michael and Suzie reiterate the magic of having the right team and education. They believe that while for some multifamily syndication can get tricky, having different creative minds that know other things you don't prove one thing: you don't have to do everything yourself. About Michael and Suzie: Suzy and Michael are the Founders of Adventurous Real Estate Investors. They specialize in Return on Impact. Through real estate investing, they create immeasurable impacts; in their family, with their friends, in their community, with the families (residents) they serve, in the spaces where they want to be generous – everywhere and anywhere! Their adventure began at a TEDx event — the theme was Reset — and it changed their lives. Their "why" is to achieve financial freedom through real estate investing so they can serve others all over the world. They want to be able to explore this beautiful world and experience all that it has to offer. They want to create an impact where it is needed most. They want to share this journey with others by offering investment opportunities to their partners, and to give back by mentoring others along the way to help them check off their bucket list items now, not after retirement. - Sponsor: https://www.frommilitarytomillionaire.com/rentometer-sponsor - Outline of the episode:   [03:23] Starting from the book, Multiple Streams of Income. [07:17] Our team brought in the experience for all of us. [13:07] When nobody follows up – follow up!; What is syndication about?            [18:45] Get other people for what you're bad at doing. [25:37] The social and cultural dynamics that play when taking over a property. [31:35] What's the best part of having a team? [32:46] Educating yourself destroys Imposter Syndrome. [36:45] The unfair advantage of working from overseas. [43:24] Two big pieces when jumping onto the next deal. [47:49] Setting up the systems and processes that make things work, even from anywhere around the world. [50:26] "Stick to your budget!" [55:00] The difference between experts and advisers. Knowledge without practice can damage the business.” “I often say we don't sell carpet, we sell family blessings, we sell experiences, we sell stories and the carpet is free” “What I have learned in my life is that destination comes from the mind, but direction comes from the heart. If you are not driven by love and compassion, then we do not have direction” “I'm sure that anything in business, if it is not driven by love, it is not going to sustain” Mr Nand Chaudhary bio: Nand Kishore Chaudhary, a globally acclaimed social entrepreneur, is the founder of Jaipur Rugs, one of India's largest manufacturers of hand knotted rugs and is often referred to as ‘Gandhi of the Carpet Industry'. Dr. Steve Kempster is a Professor of Leadership Learning and Development at Lancaster University. He is a prolific scholar and a systems thinker. His latest book, Good Dividends: Responsible Leadership of Business Purpose "explores how five dividends (based on five capitals) can be developed through attention to a sixth dividend (and sixth capital) – the dividend from our planet and communities."Dr. Kemspter's BooksGood Dividends: Responsible Leadership of Business Purpose by Steve Kempster, Thomas Maak, Ken ParryResponsible Leadership: Realism and Romanticism by Steve Kempster & Brigid Carroll Quotes from This Episode"We keep talking about leader/follower, but frankly in the organizational world, followers just do not exist. No one aspires to become a follower....think about leader/stakeholders. What would that relationship then offer? You start moving attention towards purpose, towards meaningful work, towards aspects that are deeply significant to people."“You can use capitalism to change capitalism. The biggest way forward for capitalism to change is leadership. It’s the most powerful mechanism on the planet, for social change. For good or for ill, there isn’t anything more powerful than leadership with the power it wields.”“It is corporates that have the scope to rescue humanity.”“Here is the important thing...the data shows us that when you link purpose, meaningful work, adding value to communities, positive social impact, you see profitability go up. And there’s loads of data that shows you that.”“In my experience, out of all of this, the most difficult part of business leadership is getting their heads around purpose.”Resources Mentioned in this EpisodeFirms of Endearment by Rajendra Sisodia, Jagdish N.
