On this episode, 3 playwrights discuss their development experience as past winners of the Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition.
Born into a family of yogis, Madhuri Pura Dasa initially took spirituality for granted until a pivotal moment at the age of sixteen. Tasked by their father to read the Bhagavad Gita for $100, the experience profoundly impacted him, leading to a rejection of the money and a newfound dedication to spiritual wisdom. Choosing the path of a monk at eighteen, Madhuri spent five years in various monasteries across the United States and India, studying under renowned teachers and traveling the world intermittently. Upon leaving the monastery, he faced challenges in building a sustainable career sharing knowledge. Despite years of extensive travel and workshops, financial struggles and personal sacrifices ensued. Overworking, feeling scattered, and neglecting personal and spiritual aspects of life, he settled for less, afraid to pursue his desired life. Guided by expert teachers and coaches, Madhuri learned to integrate purpose into a sustainable business model, launching Madhu Life. Achieving a nourishing balance between health, spirituality, profession, and relationships, he now aims to facilitate similar transformations for clients. When I first met Mādhurī Pūra Dāsa, I was taken aback by his unique blend of vastly different sensibilities. Here was a man who had traded the tranquility of monastic life for the hustle and bustle of entrepreneurship, unifying spiritualism with the practicalities of life. His story inspired us to explore how understanding one's own needs, both physical and spiritual, can lead to a truly fulfilling life. In our chat, he emphasized the concept of Karma, and the vital importance of personal responsibility. His spiritual worldview didn't simply allow him to thrive in his business ventures but enabled him to take control of his life. The humility of his journey, from making more money in two weeks on his first pilgrimage than he did in an entire year, is a testament to his philosophy of self-reliance and embracing the work required to shape our destiny. As we conclude our episode, Mādhurī Pūra Dāsa shared the tremendous value he found in service and the power of like-minded spiritual communities. His story is a poignant reminder of how our spiritual worldview molds our perception of success and how an attitude of receptivity to divinity can open new opportunities. His tale of self-discovery and the intersection of spirituality and practical life offers an alternative narrative of success, that all of us can learn from. Aug 14, 2020 #SRFConvocation #Yogananda #AshramLife What is it like to enter the ashram and spend one's life as a monastic disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda? Is it different from the life of the devotee in the world? How does the inner spirit of renunciation apply to all? SRF nun Sister Madhuri delivers a class as part of the Day 6 (Thursday) schedule for the 2020 Convocation which will open a window into the monastic path as lived by SRF nuns in the ashrams of Paramahansa Yogananda. This class will include a video of daily life in the ashram, showing what it means to give your life wholeheartedly to God; the caring and loving guidance each monastic disciple receives; the opportunities to serve others; and how the disciple — through years of deepened efforts in meditation accompanied by the steadfast desire to change — finds herself living a life rich with God and Guru's love, peace, and joy. This class will be of special interest to women considering a monastic life, but all are welcome to attend. The 2020 SRF World Convocation is a weeklong program of classes on Paramahansa Yogananda's “how-to-live” teachings and meditation techniques, online guided group meditations and kirtans (devotional chanting), virtual pilgrimage tours to the ashrams where the great guru lived and communed with God, and more. This year SRF is honoring the 100th anniversary of Yogananda's arrival in the West and the beginning of his worldwide work. Paramahansa Yogananda viewed the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons as the very core of the teachings he was ordained to bring to the world as a special spiritual dispensation for the coming global civilization. Madhuri and Praneswara Das are Krishna devotees from Mayapur, Kolkata. Madhuri was always scared of needles. This was a huge blow but they were not held or emotionally supported at the hospital.Their faith and birth education, support from midwives and birth community kept them going. All along their faith in God led them , their baby was absolutely fine at birth with no issues. This podcast was recorded when the baby was over 6 months old.It is interesting that after 3 days of labor, the placenta was not born for 9 hours, how did they cope up with this situation and what do they say about their inclination towards home birth if they have another baby.Tune in now !Prepare for Birth, explore Prenatal and Postnatal Preparation Classes, visit www.birthagni.comSupport the show: If you like what you hear, leave us a rating on Spotify app and answer the question at each episode! a review on Apple podcasts. There were four critical points cited that are worth discussing today: eye contact, presence, touch, and playfulness. Enjoy the show. :)
