If there's a secret lair where designs for producing popular podcasts are developed, Matt Gourley has a key. He admits to having an irresponsible number of podcasts. In fact he is the OG of podcasting, putting his first one out there in 2006. Now he's the creative force behind James Bonding and he's a producer and sidekick on the Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend podcast. He can geek out with the best of them over James Bond trivia and riffs with Conan O'Brien and their star-studded array of guests. We'll talk to Matt Gourley about what makes audio storytelling so compelling.

Covenant Methodist Woodlands | Weekly Inspiration for Christian Living

An ideologue is an uncompromising adherent to an ideology...a system of ideas or ideals. We're trained in modern society to view this as an insult we hurl at our opponent. But is not the quality of the ideology dependant on what the idea or ideal is? If the idea is good, or holy, wouldn't we want to adhere unwavering to that? Pastor Jason uses this framework to delve into the words in Philippians 2:1-5. In this text Paul speaks of making his joy complete by one-minded of spirit and love. To adhere to Jesus' commandment—love others as yourselves; "As I love, so you, too, ought to love one another." How would our lives and communities be transformed if we were to truly adhere unwaveringly to this ideology of love?

This week we come to you from our individual government mandated isolation pods to bring you an update of all the things we found interesting over the last couple weeks. All without the inconvenience of actually having to see each other in real life. This time we cover movie delays, outrageous rental prices, a potential astronomical event, and a few recommendations on how to keep sane during your distancing. Also, apologies for the poor quality of Ben's mic. This kinda caught us with our pants down and we weren't quite prepared to record remotely. But the show must go on! Kinda sounds counter-intuitive to what a new podcast trying to generate a listenership should do, doesn't it? We talk: James Bonding, Art of the Score, I Was There Too, Chewin' It With Kevin and Steve, Film Sack, Ten Minute Podcast, The Rewatchables, Armchair Expert, Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, Life is Short with Justin Long, GLOP Culture, The Dis Dudes, and Film Junk. Matt Gourley is a man of very specialized talents. He knows his James Bond (obviously—he co-hosts Earwolf's James Bonding podcast) and he knows his Jason Voorhees (he does the In Voorhees We Trust podcast, too). Scott calls him "a crown prince of podcasting," and he's not really exaggerating at all, what with co-founding SuperEgo, creating I Was There Too, producing Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, and appearing on some of the absolute funniest episodes of Comedy Bang Bang, Never Not Funny, Thrilling Adventure Hour, and more. But truly, his finest hour must be this one, where he shoots the breeze for about an hour about '80s films with Drew and Scott. Join us, won't you?

Saluton and Happy "Things That Are Done at This Time Of Year" to you! Estas mi, your host Tyson Saner, and welcome to the last epi of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, of 2018.  What a year it has been…and that's at least partially because I took over hosting and main production duties during this year approximately 10 months ago. I hadn't really been thinking about how much time had actually elapsed because it, like everything else seems to just keep happening. It does seem to feel like less time than a year has passed because it has…that's pretty logical…beep boop…  ANYWAY…It's a show chock full of content including clips from Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Just Say Words, 2DudeReview, Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, The Podcast Brothers and Thought Spiral.  In addition, we have a double dose of raging moderate Will Durst's Burst O' Durst. (Incidentally, if you live in or are visiting the San Francisco Bay Area, Durst is ring master for the annual Big Fat Year End Kiss Off Show, a comedy revue of holiday proportions that plays in a different venue around the area starting on Wednesday, December 26. Click over to http://WillDurst.com for details…)  We've also got a very "This Time Of Year-y" Henderson's Pants ad from waaaaay back in 2012 (I think) and, of course, a reading from our most recent sponsor, TrumPoetry.com. SIDEBAR Listeners of past episodes of Succotash might remember the soundcasts Trevor Has Friends and Just Joshin' being featured in episodes 172 and 177, respectively. These are both comedy soundcasts from over at Savage Henry Magazine , a humor magazine produced locally here in Humboldt County. It's a free publication that has been published with regularity since it was first published in 2010. It was founded by Chris Durant, Sarah Godlin, Monica Durant, and Josh Duke. I follow the magazine on Instagram at @savagehenrymagazine and I came across this post from December 16th, 2018: "Monica, (@moneycuz) co-founder of the magazine and the glue that has kept it all together for all these years, is sick. She can use your help if you're in position to do so. She's dealing with liver failure and is facing a transplant. Links to donation sites in comments. Thank you for being a fan of Savage Henry and your support."  It's a modest goal of $10K and if you're wondering about specifics, on the page I just specified there was an update made on December 16th, 2018 which reads: "Wow everyone. I'm am so relieved by the outpouring of help in so many forms. This is a crazy time. A major surgery, a month or more of intensive therapy and monitoring, a year till projected recovery, and a lifetime of medications are daunting goals and having some weight lifted financially is a HUGE COMFORT!!! Thank you." As of December 17th, 2018 they are at 33% of their goal. If you're inspired to help this awesome fan of many forms of comedic expression, you can do so through this PayPal account: https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8aqlSi5TRm CLIPS Chillpak Hollywood Hour This soundcast features two members of "soundcast royalty" (as dubbed by Succotash executive producer Marc Hershon), namely Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness. They've been doing the show for more than 11 years, week in and week out, engaging in thought-provoking, insightful, and irreverent cultural conversation. Our clip is from recent Epi603, where the gents discuss the death and life of U.S. President George H.W. Bush, the forthcoming film Vice, the live variety stage show Phil produced on his 50th birthday, Dean's efforts to pack up his L.A. abode and his recent Michigan adventures. There's also a plug for their dark comedy The Lady Killers.  P.S. I've seen "The Lady Killers" and it is quite good. We're working on having Dean and Phil on as guests to talk more about The Lady Killers on an upcoming edition of Succotash Chats! Thought Spiral Comedians Andy Kindler (Bob's Burgers, Maron, and a past Succotash guest) and J. Elvis Weinstein (MST3K, Freaks & Geeks) convene weekly to solve the problems of the world but usually end up talking about comedy and various forms of anxiety. Every episode so far has been called "Test Episode Number Something". Our clip hails from their Epi64, a live show from the Improv Lab in Los Angeles, where Andy muses on the pros and cons of singing in public and which musicals he has enjoyed.   Sidenote: The documentary: I Need You To Kill, features comedians Pete Lee, Chad Daniels, and Tom Segura on a comedy tour of China. It turns out that there's a growing comedy scene over there and it's fascinating to see it happening. The documentary was directed by none other than the aforementioned J. Elvis Weinstein. It's currently streaming on Amazon Prime and, assuming you are a fan of comedy and/or documentaries about comedians or just documentaries in general…you could do a lot worse than to check this one out.  The Podcast BrothersFlaw700 and Fresco are two real life brothers who are similar (because they're both Gemini's) but also have different view points. The authentic and entertaining sibling dynamic gets switched up when Kailah King is there, She offers a unique female's perspective. They discuss mainstream hip hop events and relay those events into engaging topics of discussion. This clip is from "Love Is Free", their Epi110 from this past November, and is part of their segment called "Fresh or Fiasco". Just Say WordsThe Just Say Words soundcast covers everything from social Issues, pop culture, and race, to tech, movies, and much more. Hosted by Jae, in Epi239 he talks about voting and has a bunch of random ramblings filled with jokes and much more. Our clip features him detailing how he dealt with his Netflix account being hacked. 2DudeReview The 2DudeReview is a weekly podcast, hosted by Brian Bradley and Chad Hamilton, features Karina Dolehide, and is based on the book, "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die." Brian and Chad are longtime friends and lifelong movie geeks who love to talk, at length, about their favorite films. "Each week we watch a movie from the '1001 Movies' list, research the film, then discuss and rate the movie from our perspectives. We pride ourselves on bringing quality content and maybe even a laugh or two in the process." IN November, they talked at length about the movie Jurassic Park — what the hell genre is it, science versus religion versus capitalism, and Chad has the hiccups. Our clip catch the hiccup fit. Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend After 25 years at the Late Night desk, Conan O'Brien realized that the only people at his holiday party are the men and women who work for him. Over the years and despite thousands of interviews, Conan has never made a real and lasting friendship with any of his celebrity guests. So, he started a podcast to do just that. He's joined on this quest by longtime trusty assistant Sona Movsesian and producer Matt Gourley (Superego, James Bonding.) His very first guest was Will Ferrell. In our clip from that episode 1, Will recounts a long-running "life bit" that involved a costume from a "Smokey and the Bandit" sketch on SNL.  •     •     • And just like that, the last Succotash show of 2018 is drawing to a close. What  a year it has been. I've spent 10 months of it putting together episodes of this show and eight of those 10 months preparing to welcome my wife and I's first child into this world VERY early in 2019. Also, the 16th of this month was my wife and I's 15th wedding anniversary. For those of you who pay attention to this sort of thing, 15 years is the "Crystal" anniversary.  Whaddya want from me, I'm full of tidbits…somewhat like an actual Succotash…  Anyway, 2018 has been the most unique year of my life so far. I have a feeling 2019 is going to top everything on the uniqueness scale...if there is such a thing. On January 1st I have a single dropping. It's a collaboration with Korey Epps who appeared in the Chats episode of Succotash #175. He has an album coming out in early 2019 called "Luv & Liquor" and our collaboration is part of it. It's called "Hope" and it will be available on New Years Day, on Spotify, iTunes/Apple Music, Amazon, Google Play, Deezer, Tidal, Napster and Youtube.…so that's happening too.  In closing, thank you to my wife and family for being wonderful and supportive of me all these years. Thank you to Korey Epps for believing in my musical ability enough to collaborate on a music project with me. Thank you to Executive Producer Marc Hershon for keeping the show running for all those years and then deciding that when he was ready to pass the torch to someone that I was the man for the job. Thank you to Will Durst for contributing the very best in Moderate Political Comedy…that's what it's called, isn't it? Thank you to Bill Heywatt for announcing the show and thank you Joe Paulino for making sure Mr. Heywatt is always captured at his best. Thank you Scott Carvey for the Succotash theme music you are hearing in the background.  And, of course, thank YOU the listener …for listening…and for sharing us with others for that is what we mean when we gently implore you to please pass the Succotash! — Tyson Saner

Something a little different this time out — a live epi of Succotash Chats, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, presented as part of the 16th Annual San Francisco Sketchfest! (l-r) Cole Stratton, Paco Romane, Will Durst, Marc Hershon, Wayne Federman, and Joe Paulino   (For those who may be offended by my use of Frisco in the title this week - often an affront to some from the City By The Bay - please bear in mind this was a time-honored handle for San Francisco until Chronicle columnist Herb Caen decided to make it a "thing", including writing a book entitled, Don't Call It Frisco! But screw him. He was from Sacramento originally anyway. I grew up in and around this city and I'll call it whatever I want…) We had a delightful show on a Sunday afternoon at the Piano Fight nightclub in the Tenderloin district with a slim crowd in attendance. (I like to blame the low turnout on the thunderstorm that was going on.) Our beloved booth announcer Bill Heywatt was there, live and in person, and went beyond simply introducing the show and reading a commercial for Henderson's Pants Hippie Hiphuggers — he sang a song, The President's A Trump, based on The Lady Is A Tramp. And he was accompanied on piano by guest Wayne Federman, co-host of the Human Conversation soundcast. Special thanks to Wayne, who was performing the previous night and was due to fly home early Sunday, but stayed over until evening and paid the extra money to switch his flight just to join us. In addition to Bill and Wayne, we had political comedian and social commentator Will Durst who read a live Burst O' Durst segment and also helped me host the event. And on our panel of soundcasters we also had Paco Romane, co-host of the Sup Doc show, and Cole Stratton, co-host of Pop My Culture (and also co-producer of the SF Sketchfest.) Interestingly, both Wayne and Cole's soundcasts have dropped their last episodes. (Pop My Culture actually put up its last show the week before as part of the Sketchfest offerings.) THE PERFORMERS Will Durst is a five-time Emmy nominated political satirist, seven-time nominee for Best Male Stand-Up of the Year, a nationally syndicated columnist, author of four books, and has released five CDs and is sworn enemy to all tyrants foreign and domestic. He is now touring with his new acclaimed one-man show about Baby Boomers. BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG, and can be seen as one of the three subjects in the new documentary 3 Still Standing, currently available from Amazon Prime. Wayne Federman is a comedian, actor, and writer. He has been touring clubs, colleges, alternative rooms, and theaters for over 30 years. He has performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and has his own stand‐up special on Comedy Central. Wayne has appeared in over twenty films including Knocked Up, Step Brothers, The 40‐Year‐Old Virgin, Legally Blonde, 50 First Dates, Funny People, and is featured in the upcoming Will Ferrell/Amy Poehler comedy The House. Television viewers know Wayne from his his recurring role on Curb Your Enthusiasm as well Shameless, Hello Ladies, Documentary Now!, The Larry Sanders Show, Community, and New Girl. He is both an Emmy and WGA-award nominated writer. He has had articles published in The Atlantic, Vulture, and Splitsider and was the head monologue writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon as well as co‐authoring a bestselling sports biography on Pistol Pete Maravich. His critically acclaimed 3-volume comedy retrospective, The Chronicles of Federman, was released in 2015 by ASpecialThing Records. Paco Romane’s authentic, engaging, and unpredictable style has established him as an audience favorite. His act is a “mashup of all things funny – stand up, sketch, improv, you name it” –  and with his experience in improv and sketch comedy he’ll regularly spin any live moment with the crowd into his act. Paco has appeared on Comedy Central, is a frequent guest on The Todd Glass Show and was twice voted Best Comedian in San Francisco. He has also appeared in numerous films and national commercials, and is a sought after voice-over actor. Check out his comedy album Shaped Like A Thumb and his podcast Sup Doc. Cole Stratton wears a lot of hats. Not literal ones, as he has a tiny head and it just doesn't look right. He is the co-founder of SF Sketchfest. He’s also co-host of the popular (and recently shuttered) Pop My Culture soundcast. He has also guested on other soundcasts, such as Sklarbro County, Jordan Jesse Go!, Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction, Totally Laime, The Long Shot Podcast and James Bonding. Due to planet alignment, he has appeared on TV’s Nash Bridges, re-enacted on America’s Most Wanted, played with puppies and Betty White on the Animal Planet original The Retrievers, thrown-down like the sarcastic white boy he is on Wilmer Valderrama’s Yo Momma, and was a cast member on NBC’s competitive comedy show Comedy Colosseum. He’s a lead in the indie comedy Callback opposite Kevin Farley, has also appeared in the films Around the Fire, Dead Man on Campus, and the festival hit horror/comedy The Selling, where he plays obnoxious office gossip Ed, a role which he will be reprising in the upcoming end-times comedy Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse. HOW CAN YOU HELP?  Great question! To help us to keep the mics on, you can do one (or all) of several things to offset our production costs. 1) Visit http://SuccotashShow.com and click on the cheery Donate button in the upper right side of the page, OR 2) Visit http://SuccotashShow.com and click on the Amazon banner at the top of the page - we get a little taste of everything you buy from the World's Greatest Anything Store, OR 3) Purch some merch from our Succotashery which, oddly enough, is available at http://SuccotashShow.com! Stay tuned to see how Matt and Amanda handle it. Deal-breakers and compromises make the wedding planning world go round! Guestlist: Matt and Amanda have big families and lots of mutual friends, but the guestlist has definitely been the biggest challenge so far in wedding planning process. Oh, hey – it’s your old pal Marc Hershon. Unless this is your first time listening to Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast, in which case it’s your new pal Marc Hershon. Either way, this is Epi98. Just TWO episodes away from our Epi100 and the end of Succotash Season 1. In regards to that, we’ve been tweeting requests for podcasters and listeners to call in "Happy Episode 100!" messages to the Succotash Hotline – (818) 921-7212 – and so far we’ve got nothing. I was planning to do a big live episode for number 100 but with such an underwhelming response to the show’s Season 1 finale, I think we’re going to go back into Studio P with our engineer/producer Joe Paulino, announcer Bill Heywatt, booth announcer Kenny Durgis, and just do a slam-bang highly produced extravaganza. (Unlike this week’s episode, which was recorded in Studio F - my Fiat - while parked in my driveway in the middle of the night.) Incidentally, this episode is NOT brought to you by SquareSpace, Nature Box, Cards Against Humanity, Dollar Shave Club or any other legitimate paying advertisers but we are sponsored by Henderson’s Pants and YOUR kind donations, merch purch, and/or clickthroughs on our Amazon.com banner at the top of our http://SuccotashShow.com homesite. We’ve got a big old sweaty handful of clips from comedy podcasts around the interwebs, many of which were harvested by our Associate Producer Tyson Saner. Also on tap this episode is not one but TWO of our Burst O’ Durst segments with political and social comedian/commentator Will Durst, a fresh Henderson’s Pants commercial and the Tweetsack is back! (I pushed it off last episode because we were running so long but we’ll be mentioning a few notes we’ve gotten this time around as well as a bunch of kind folks who have been passing the Succotash via social media.) What we also have in store for you in THIS very show, this Epi98, is an interview I recorded over Skype a few days ago with Matt Gourley, who many of you may know as ¼ of the Superego podcast. He also co-hosts the James Bonding podcast with Matt Myra. But his main reason for dropping by, virtually speaking, was to talk about his newest podcast AND the new network that it’s helping to launch. Just this past week, the Wolf Pop podcast network started. It’s a spinoff of sorts from the Earwolf Network, home of many fine comedy podcasts such as Comedy Bang Bang, Affirmation Nation with Bob Ducca, Nerd Poker and many others. Wolf Pop is going to feature more shows with a pop culture bent, under the stewardship of the very funny Paul Scheer, whom you may know from the How Did This Get Made? podcast, his appearance on TV’s The League and many other endeavors.  Matt’s new show is called I Was There Too, and features Matt interviewing different guests each episode, guests who were connected to a famous scene or moment in a movie but just as a bit part player or an extra on the film. For instance, his guest on the first show, which dropped this week, is Paul F. Tompkins, who was in There Will Be Blood and was in a scene with Daniel Day Lewis. We feature a clip from that premiere episode on this show, along with my chat with Matt. (I also review I Was There Too this week for This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com and for Huffington Post Comedy as well.) Coming Soon: Season 2! If you missed me talking about what Season Two of Succotash has in store, I’m going to be splitting the show into two different flavors which will both be available in the regular show feed. We will have clips-only episodes under the subtitle of Succotash Clips and then we’ll have interview shows subtitled Succotash Chats. And, occasionally, we might still mix those offerings for a serving of Succotash Clips n’ Chats. No More 10 Most Active Shows In Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcast List? It seems that Stitcher has been updating some hooha in the jezzleneck because of a defective framus and their numbers have been all kablooie since the middle of September. Now I was planning on maybe scapping this feature anyway after Epi100 so maybe we’ll just let it quietly crawl off and die in the bushes. The Clips TomefooleryTwice a month, comedian Cody Melcher invites a couple of funny friends on his Tomefoolery podcast to talk about a really, really weird book they've all just read. Comedianne Stephanie Hasz co-hosts this epi and guests include Chris Geiger, Mary Beth Smith and Claire Friedman from "The Nerdologues", a CHicago sketch group. The book for this episode is called A Christian Response to Dungeons and Dragons, written by Peter Leithart and George Grant in 1987. (Our Associate Producer Tyson mentioned that, “This is not something I knew existed and I'm almost sure that my Dad would have mentioned it as he came from a religious background  and is NOT a 'Satan Worshipper'.” This clip is of the folks re-enacting a famous "Chick Tract" called "Dark Dungeon" that is anti-Dungeons and Dragons. That "Chick Tract" has since been made into a film that was funded by Kickstarter. They want $5 bucks for the film online, which looks like it cost 5 bucks to make. Here's the trailer for it if you want to spend YOUR money on it… Transformers 1986 As if to test the modern axiom, “There’s a podcast for everything”, Podcast Squared’s Andrew Johnstone has unveiled the Transformers 1986 podcast. To bring his audio vision to life, he’s assembled a roundtable of podcasting podcasters — Jason “The Angry Ginger” (7 Days A Geek), Ben Tippett (Titanium Physicists), and Jim Chipley (Bizz and Chips), along with comedian Joe Starr. The first epsiode uses the nerd minds of the panel to deconstruct the first 20 minutes of this animated “classic” motion picture. So far there is only the first episode of Transformers 1986 so there’s plenty of time to jump aboard! Pizza Beer RevolutionThis is a segment-driven chatter show featuring Mike Pullano (host of the New York Rangers’ Blue Shirt Buds), Chris Ippolito (lead singer of Chapter Five) and ex-pro snowboarder Joe Maffei that appears on YouTube as a multi-screen videocast as well as an audio podcast. Their guest this segment – they frequently have interesting guests popping in – is Samantha Quintas of SModcast’s The Sam And Ming Show. And they’re talking – more or less on topic – about their favorite TV theme songs. Hillbilly Nerd TalkHosted by Hank and Petra – no last names – who describe themselves as “educated hillbillies”, the Hillbilly Nerd Talk podcast hails from “deep in the hollows of rural Appalachia”. This is an amazing find from Tyson and features a charming married couple who chew the fat on a variety of subjects. This sample features them tossing around a list of the perils of Facebook from Men’s Health magazine. Done and done. That’s Epi98 in a podshell. It’s not too late to record a special message for the Succotash Episode 100 – you can do it by calling into the Succotash Hotline at (818) 921-7212 or by sending us an MP3 or WAV file to marc@SuccotashShow.com. We continue to appreciate getting your reviews and rating on iTunes, your Thumbs Up on Stitcher, and your donations by clicking the Donate button at http://SuccotashShow.com.
