Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970). We're back to Hammer Horror, back to Christopher Lee, and back to Dracula. In this episode of General Witchfinders, we sink our teeth into Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), the fifth official film in Hammer's Dracula series and our sixth Hammer Dracula review to date. You can find links to all previous vampire escapades at https://tinyurl.com/Witchdrac. This British gothic horror classic, directed by Peter Sasdy and written by Hammer regular Anthony Hinds (under the alias John Elder), was nearly a Dracula-free affair. Christopher Lee had originally declined to return, and the script focused instead on Ralph Bates's doomed Lord Courtley. But Warner Bros. insisted: no Dracula, no deal. So #BigChrisLee once again rises from the grave — bloodthirsty, silent, and furiously regretting his contract. Taste the Blood of Dracula opens with a satanic ritual involving Dracula's powdered remains, a trio of Victorian hypocrites, and the ill-fated resurrection of evil. It's a moody, blood-soaked revenge tale packed with brooding graveyards and Hammer's trademark blend of sex, sin and satin capes. Cast Highlights:Christopher Lee as Count Dracula — in his fourth Dracula outing for Hammer.Ralph Bates as Lord Courtley — Hammer's would-be replacement for Lee.Geoffrey Keen as William Hargood — a patriarch with a hidden penchant for brothels.Linda Hayden as Alice Hargood — the daughter turned devotee, previously seen in Baby Love and The Blood on Satan's Claw.Peter Sallis as Samuel Paxton — yes, that Peter Sallis: Cleggy, Wallace, and voice of animated British melancholy.Roy Kinnear as Weller — bringing tragic optimism, as only Kinnear can. There's Hammer horror royalty in every frame, from Linda Hayden's eerie innocence to Ralph Bates's foppish devilry. And Geoffrey Keen? You may recognise him as Sir Frederick Gray, the Defence Minister across six Bond films — The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill and The Living Daylights. Ralph Bates, meanwhile, would go on to star in Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde, The Horror of Frankenstein, Lust for a Vampire, becoming one of Hammer's key players. He also turned up in the final season of Secret Army (inspiring 'Allo 'Allo), and was once considered for major roles in Lifeforce — as discussed back in episode 39.Peter Sallis, who we last touched on in our Nicolas Lyndhurst deep-dive (episode 54), had an extraordinary career in British television, from Doctor Who to The Wind in the Willows to Wallace & Gromit. His role in this film might be brief, but his CV is longer than Dracula's cape. And finally, Roy Kinnear: from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory to Help!, Watership Down, Blake's 7, and beyond — always brilliant, always beleaguered. Trivia for the diehards:This film was part of a double bill with Crescendo on release. The infamous brothel scene was trimmed from the theatrical cut but restored for later DVD editions.Released just 22 weeks before Scars of Dracula (covered back in episode 28). Whether you're a lifelong Hammer horror collector, a Christopher Lee completist, or simply a fan of vintage British horror with gothic flair, Taste the Blood of Dracula is essential viewing.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. The Timothy Dalton chapter sadly only lasted for two films, but it began on a high note with The Living Daylights. What we will decode in this episode These are the things we decode as we answer the question: What makes THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS so good? · Timothy Dalton's changes to the portrayal of James Bond · The return to Fleming · The geopolitical shift in this movie. · Who were some real-world Russian defectors · The scenes that worked well · The Cold War intrigue · Mistrust and Manipulations · How real-world events at the time of this movie's release strengthened the story. · Cary Edwards' book, “He Disagreed with Something tht Ate Him” · What did Tom want to hire Necros to do for him? · The score and title song – good or bad? · And more! Tell us what you think. Did we do a good job explaining what makes THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS so good? So, take a listen and let us know what you think. Are you a Timothy Dalton-as-James Bond fan? To sum up, if you have seen this movie, what do you think? Were we on point with our thoughts? What did you like and what would you have changed about the movie? Let us know your thoughts, ideas for future episodes, and what you think of this episode. Just drop us a note at info@spymovienavigator.com. Hot Fuzz Full Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects With Simon Pegg returning to theatres in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Greg & Aaron continue their CORNETTO TRILOGY Binge with a Hot Fuzz Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Greg Alba & Aaron Alexander as they swap London's rainy streets for the seemingly sleepy village of Sandford in Edgar Wright's 2007 action-comedy Hot Fuzz. When top London policeman Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead, The World's End) is transferred to the idyllic West Country, he's paired with bumbling local cop Danny Butterman (Nick Frost, Paul, Attack the Block). But Sandford's picture-postcard charm hides a dark secret—and Angel's meticulous policing uncovers a string of “accidents” that may actually be murders disguised to maintain the village's Perfect Parish Award. Rounding out the stellar cast are Jim Broadbent as the genial but suspicious Inspector Frank Butterman (Iris, Moulin Rouge!), Timothy Dalton chomping scenery as elitist Simon Skinner (James Bond in The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill), and Olivia Colman bringing comic flair as pub manager Dorothy “The Heat” Lintott (The Favourite, Broadchurch). Rafe Spall stands out as self-important councilman Michael “Lurch” Armstrong (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), while Paddy Considine impresses as paranoid farmer Charlie Wainwright (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Outsider). Greg & A-A-Ron break down every memorable moment—from the frantic supermarket aisle shootout and the legendary “gravy train” pub brawl, to the adrenaline-pumping car chase through Sandford's narrow lanes and the explosive finale in the village church. Don't miss their take on the film's razor-sharp editing, signature Wright-Jedward humor, and the way Hot Fuzz brilliantly subverts buddy-cop tropes while delivering some of the most highly searched-for action-comedy sequences of the 2000s! In this 15th episode of my 007 series, I'm shaking (not stirring) things up with The Living Daylights — Timothy Dalton's explosive debut as James Bond. Timothy Dalton becomes the new James Bond in The Living Daylights, but can he redeem a franchise that bordered parody with an aging Roger Moore's performance? We have the answers you can trust!
This week, look, we know you don't care, but we didn't kill our wife, okay?? We're heading out on the run with a hairy Harrison in search of the one-armed man, as we have a hell of a time with one the great dad thrillers of the 90s. It's 1993's The Fugitive, directed by Andrew Davis, and starring Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, Sela Ward, Joe Pantoliano, Jeroen Krabbé, Daniel Roebuck, L. Scott Caldwell, Tom Wood, Andreas Katsulas, Julianne Moore and Jane Lynch. Both a perpetual chase action movie as well as a taut conspiracy thriller, the movie is boosted enormously by a lineup of U.S. Marshals in dogged pursuit of our hero that all get to be funny and likeable without ever really feeling like the villains -- such a likeable bunch in fact that they'd all come back for a Ford-less sequel in 1998, four years after Tommy Lee Jones won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Plus: Hayley's hooked on puzzles, and Justin's landed square in the middle of a red hot pro wrestling feud! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our conversation, The Fugitive is currently streaming on Crave and Starz in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Love Guru, Monday Night Raw, The Bikeriders, Azrael: Angel of Death, No One Will Save You, Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible 2, The Town, Lost, The Late Shift, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lupin the Third, John Wick, Air Force One, The Departed, The Sixth Sense, Emilia Perez, The Incredible Hulk, The Living Daylights, Soldier of Orange, The Fourth Man, Minority Report, Die Hard, U.S. Marshals, The Matrix, The Simpsons, and Wrongfully Accused, among others. We'll be back next week as we continue to barrel toward January's canon consideration of Ocean's Eleven (2001) at the end of the month, and having already checked in with Bernie Mac to kick off the new year, it's time to recruit the leader of the gang in one of his first leading man movie star roles, the very first film ever released by DreamWorks Pictures: 1997's The Peacemaker, with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman which is sadly not available to stream north of the border currently but can be rented on Cineplex and YouTube. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Who is Chris Corbould? Chris Corbould OBE has worked on 15 James Bond movies, THE DARK KNIGHT Trilogy, 2 Superman movies, and he won an Acadamy Award for his work on the movie INCEPTION. Chiefly, his specialty has been visual effects, leading the team on many of these movies. Dan and Tom had a chance to chat with Chris in Chicago at the press event prior to the opening of the “007 Science: Inventing the World of James Bond” exhibit. This fantastic exhibit is at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. What movies do we discuss with Chris Corbould? During this interview, Chris talks about visual effects in several of his James Bond movies and THE DARK KNIGHT. So, listen to hear how they did the explosion in SPECTRE, which involved about 300 explosions in succession! Chris tells us how that worked. Additionally, Chris mentions the warning he gave to Daniel Craig about this scene. Undoubtedly, you remember the doughnut scene in NO TIME TO DIE. You know, the scene where the Aston Martin spins in the square in Matera, Italy. Chris talks us through that scene and how they coordinated the “bullets” hitting the side of the buildings with the spinning of the car. The tank scenes in GOLDENEYE! Chris also tells us the origin and some of the challenges of these tank scenes. What are the challenges of buying real tanks for a movie? Listen to find out! One of Tom's favorite Bond gadgets is the cello case in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS. Chris Corbould was involved with this gadget's development. And he gives us insight into the creation of the device. Oh, and he lets us know what actress Maryam d'Abo, who played Kara Milovy, certainly thought about this sled. SKYFALL train crash in the subway! Chris discusses the challenges in designing this spectacular train crash. Lots of details had to be worked out simultaneously for that one. It's not all James Bond Finally, since we were having this discussion in Chicago, Chris talked about the semi-trailer scene in THE DARK KNIGHT. This is the scene where the truck flips over, backend over the front end. They filmed this scene in Chicago, on LaSalle street. Chris lets us know how they got that to work. Let us know what you think! So, take a listen. Chris Corbould is not only a visual effects master, he's a great guy and a fun interview. Gadgets in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and LICENCE TO KILL Dan and Tom break down the gadgets in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and LICENCE TO KILL – the two Dalton James Bond movies. Are these gadgets believable? Flashy? Dalton changed the tone of the character of Bond and to some extent the gadgets in the movies. For instance, could the milk bottles really do that? What about the remote keychain? And there is also the X-Ray camera, Broomstick Radio, night-vision binoculars, the rocket engine, Dentonite toothpaste, the manta ray costume, and more. And we get two looks at the use of lasers, one from each movie. Were they believable? Well, we take apart these and all the other key gadgets in these two movies. So, take a listen – did we miss any key gadgets from these two Bond movies? Let us know your thoughts, ideas for future episodes, and what you thought of this episode by dropping us a note at info@spymovienavigator.com. The more we hear from you, the better the show will be!
