In this episode of The Other Half podcast, the boys watched two different halves of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the only movie George Lazenby stars as Bond.Watch Til You Can't continues with a brand new bond. He's softer now, and he's in love! Also, this is a prequel to You Only Live Twice, so it's a bit confusing that James Bond's face changes between two different movies. In this episode of The Other Half podcast, the boys watched two different halves of You Only Live Twice, the fifth Bond movie in the series. This is a movie made to showcase Japan and how pretty it is. It also makes you question every dormant volcano and whether a hidden lair could be there. And boy, is that hidden lair cool looking. Can an impressive set piece save a movie written by THE Ronald Dhal and the fact that James Bond now knows how to throw ninja stars?Remember to join our Discord for movie nights and further podcast discussions!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Welcome back to the Drinks and a Movie Podcast! In this seventh episode of my James Bond series, I'm diving into Diamonds Are Forever (1971), which marks Sean Connery's return as Bond after a break from the role. This film, while classic in its own right, is also notable for its place in the Bond franchise's continuity—or lack thereof. Diamonds Are Forever, along with On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice, deviates from the correct order of Ian Fleming's novels. The correct sequence is Thunderball, followed by On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and then You Only Live Twice. This shift is significant because it disrupts the emotional and narrative through-line, especially when it comes to Bond's relationship with Tracy and the aftermath of her death, which was central to On Her Majesty's Secret Service. By skipping over the emotional weight that should have followed, Diamonds Are Forever somewhat lightens the thematic stakes of Bond's character arc, leaning into a more campy, adventurous tone instead of the emotional depth seen in Fleming's books. To pair with this film, I'm sipping on Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Sour Mash Bourbon, crafted from Buffalo Trace's Mash Bill #2. Elmer T. Lee, a legendary figure in the bourbon world. He was became a master distiller at Buffalo Trace and was instrumental in the creation of Blanton's Bourbon. His single barrel sour mash bourbon is known for its smooth, rich profile, making it the perfect companion for a Bond film that balances high stakes with a lighter, more fun tone. Join me as I discuss how Diamonds Are Forever shifts the tone of the Bond saga, why the change in the novel order matters thematically, and why Elmer T. Lee's bourbon is an ideal drink to accompany this spirited, yet somewhat disjointed, chapter in Bond's story.

Welcome back to the Drinks and a Movie Podcast! In this fifth episode of my James Bond series, I'm reviewing You Only Live Twice (1967), a film that takes 007 to the exotic landscapes of Japan for a thrilling battle against SPECTRE. With one of the most outrageous and memorable Bond plots—including a secret volcano lair—this film pushes Bond into one of his most adventurous missions yet.For this episode, I'm pairing the film with a true bourbon gem: William Larue Weller from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. This uncut, unfiltered bourbon brings a rich, complex flavor profile that perfectly matches the bold, high-stakes action of Bond's mission. Its powerful yet smooth character makes it the ideal drink to accompany this larger-than-life film.Tune in as I break down the film's unique cultural setting, explore some standout moments from You Only Live Twice, and discuss why William Larue Weller is an absolute must-try for any bourbon lover. Grab your drink and join me for another unforgettable Bond adventure!

Matt and Frank are back in there continuous quest to cover all of the James Bond movies. This week we get too pretty middling entries:- You Only Live Twice (1967)- Octopussy (1983)In You Only Live Twice, Bond (Sean Connery) is dispatched to Japan after American and Soviet-crewed spacecraft vanish mysteriously in orbit, each nation blaming the other amidst the Cold War. Bond travels secretly to a remote Japanese island to find the perpetrators, and comes face-to-face with Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of SPECTRE. The film reveals the appearance of Blofeld, who was previously unseen. SPECTRE is working for the government of an unnamed Asian power, implied to be the People's Republic of China, to provoke war between the superpowers.[4][5]In Octopussy, Bond (Roger Moore) is assigned the task of hunting a megalomaniacal Soviet general (Steven Berkoff) who is stealing jewellery and art objects from the Kremlin art repository. This leads Bond to the exiled Afghan prince Kamal Khan (Louis Jourdan), and his associate Octopussy (Maud Adams), and the discovery of a plot to force disarmament in Western Europe with the use of a nuclear weapon.

Forty-five years ago in the wake of the record-breaking success of the original Star Wars, the folks at EON Productions lead by the late, great Albert Broccoli decided to take their long-running James Bond franchise in a somewhat different direction.....IN SPACE!!! :) Yes THIS is the one where Agent 007 (Roger Moore) goes to space, though to be fair not until the third act. Directed by Lewis Gilbert (The Spy Who Loved Me), this actually had a pretty similar plot to previous Bond entries like 'Spy Who Loved Me or his other previous film You Only Live Twice: evil billionaire and space maven Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale) has designs on taking over the world....by wiping out the human race with a rare toxin found in the jungles of Brazil, then to be repopulated by a new race of people lead by him up in space. :o Yup it's pretty nutty but it was a huge hit at the time and did manage to entertain..... fWotD Episode 2616: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (novel) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 3 July 2024 is On Her Majesty's Secret Service (novel). On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the tenth novel and eleventh book in Ian Fleming's James Bond series. It was first published in the United Kingdom by Jonathan Cape on 1 April 1963. Fleming changed the formula and structure from the previous novel, The Spy Who Loved Me, and made a determined effort to produce a work that adhered to his tried and tested format. The initial and secondary print runs sold out quickly, with over 60,000 copies sold in the first month, double that of the previous book's first month of sales. Fleming wrote the novel at Goldeneye, his holiday home in Jamaica, while Dr. No, the first entry in the James Bond film series by Eon Productions, was being filmed nearby. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the second book in what is known as the "Blofeld trilogy", which begins with Thunderball and concludes with You Only Live Twice. This episode centres on Bond's ongoing search to find Ernst Stavro Blofeld after the Thunderball incident. Bond finds Blofeld in Switzerland and attacks the centre where he is based, although Blofeld escapes in the confusion. Bond meets and falls in love with Contessa Teresa "Tracy" di Vicenzo during the story. The pair marry at the end of the novel, but hours after the ceremony, Blofeld and his partner, Irma Bunt, attack the couple and Tracy is killed. Fleming developed Bond's character within the book, showing an emotional side that was not present in the previous stories. As he had done in previous novels, Fleming used his past experiences and details of people he met during his work to provide details in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The novel is one of three Bond stories to deal with the disruption of markets and the economy, in this case Blofeld's planned disruption to the food supply by bioterrorism. The theme of food and drink is referred to throughout the novel, with Bond's meals and drinks being described in detail. On Her Majesty's Secret Service received broadly positive reviews in the British and American press with some reviewers pleased at the return to the more traditional form of Bond storyline. The novel was adapted as a three-part story in Playboy in 1963, serialised in eleven parts in the Daily Express and then developed as a daily cartoon strip in the Daily Express in 1964–1965. In 1969 the novel was adapted as the sixth film in the Eon Productions James Bond film series and was the only film to star George Lazenby as Bond. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:35 UTC on Wednesday, 3 July 2024.For the full current version of the article, see On Her Majesty's Secret Service (novel) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Amy.

When American and Soviet spacecraft go missing, James Bond brings his talents to Japan to prevent World War III. Sean Connery was growing tired of the role by this point. You Only Live Twice provided a lot of material for Austin Powers and other parodies. It's equally silly and iconic. Should it have been better?
