On this week's episode of Enneagram IRL, we meet with Dr. Jerome Lubbe. Dr. Jerome is referred to as the “Patient Doctor” because it was his own quest for neurological well-being that led him to specialize in complex, unresolved neurological cases. His practice explores how functional neurology, neuroplasticity, and tools like the Enneagram can improve holistic well-being. Dr. Jerome created and released the first-ever neuroscience-based model of the Enneagram in his book, The Brain-Based Enneagram. Being a functional neurologist has shown him that the healing we once thought was impossible is actually possible. Neuroplasticity tells us that we are capable of change. If we understand the function of the brain, we can improve our way of life.Grab His Book:The Brain-Based Enneagram: You are not A number by Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe
Today I have a special guest with me, a friend and colleague of mine, Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe from Thrive Human Care. Dr. Jerome has an incredible story and I was honoured to hear him share it. At age eight, he was run over by a car, and then in his late teen years, was hit by a drunk driver on two separate occasions. In addition to that, he's had three other head injuries. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Jerome has averaged 80 to 100 full blown migraines per calendar year as a result of his brain injuries. After seeing dozens of specialiasts and spending over $100k on treatments, he was finally given a diagnosis but didn't have a doctor who knew how to support a complex case in a holistic, comprehensive, and solution oriented way. This is what actually led Dr. Jerome into the field of chiropractors and his main focus is complex and unresolved cases. Imagine if you dealt with a debilitating migraine every day of your life and doctors didn't have the right answers to help you heal. What would you do? How would you cope? Dr. Jerome Lubbe experienced this firsthand before becoming a functional neurologist and working to improve people's well-being. The brain is a complex system, and sometimes the answers to our suffering aren't easy to come by. On this episode of God Hears Her, hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy talk to Dr. Jerome Lubbe about the brain and the pain a lot of us face. About Our Guest: Dr. Jerome is a functional neurologist who knows that healing is possible, even when it feels impossible, because of the brain's ability to reorganize itself and create new connections. He specializes in complex and unresolved neurological cases because he knows what it's like to have an undiagnosed issue as he suffered from migraines without any answers for years! His practice also explores how functional neurology, neuroplasticity, and tools like the Enneagram can improve our well-being. In part two of this two-part episode of Delusional Optimism, Dr. B and Seth Creekmore continue their conversation with Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe, known as the “Patient Doctor.” Dr. Jerome talks about how the Enneagram intersects with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). He discusses the concept of neuroplasticity and the three intelligence sensors that correlate with most everyday life. “If you understand what triggers you, then you start to understand what motivates you, not only what you’re trying to pursue, but what you’re trying to avoid.” - Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe [21:18] “The trauma isn’t me. It is an experience. I’m having it. Lubbe, known as the “Patient Doctor.” Dr. Jerome talks about his work that specializes in complex, unresolved neurological cases and how he explores how functional neurology, neuroplasticity, and tools like the Enneagram can improve holistic well-being. He also discusses ways to help people, especially children, easily understand the function of the brain. “If people took mental and emotional health and neurological therapies and they treated them the same way if they would if they went into the gym, they’d understand it’s not actually that complicated.” - Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe [13:06] “This is what school needs to be about, like really just activating our brain in different ways and making it more dynamic and easy. Just easy for people. From the moment a child is born, they are shaped by the world outside themselves. However, if you look at a young child, it is evident that they have their own unique personality. Because of this, various personality typing tools have evolved to help a person understand one’s self and others better. The Enneagram has its roots in ancient tradition, and has become a modern way to synthesize various personality types. The Enneagram outlines only nine personality types; however, this seemingly simple system is quite complex when you look below the surface. In Episode 36, we invited Enneagram Coach Ramona Reid to provide a broad overview of the Enneagram types. Ramona shares the importance of the Enneagram, how groups of Enneagram types operate in similar ways, and how we can approach understanding our own Enneagram type. Whether this is familiar or your first time hearing about the Enneagram , this episode will provide you with a better understanding of yourself and others. This week we dive into the 2nd half of our panel discussion on Jesus & Trauma. Once again, my guests are Wm. Paul Young, Alison Cook, Ph.D, Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe and Ahmeda Mansaray-Richardson. Building on the discussion in the first half, where the lenses of psychology, neurology, theology, and cultural studies were applied to matters of identity, brokenness, colonialism, institutional religious structures, diversity and more, we went after forgiveness and reconciliation next. The conversation is shorter but no less robust.Order The Pastor: A Crisis, by Paul Young & Bradley Jersak. Learn more about Wm. Paul Young at wmpaulyoung.com. Welcome to the 100th episode of The Puddcast! As I looked back over the first 3 years I realized that the intersection of Jesus & trauma formed a throughline across many conversations. I wanted to do something special and so I assembled a panel to discuss this subject. My guests are Wm. Paul Young, Alison Cook, Ph.D, Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe and Ahmeda Mansaray-Richardson. We went so deep and long that I've split the discussion into 2 parts, with the 2nd part coming next week. Using the lenses of psychology, neurology, theology, cultural studies, and more we look at identity, brokenness, colonialism, institutional religious structures, diversity and more. If you've ever wished to know precisely why it's so hard to believe that God loves you, if you've wanted to understand yourself better, to know why our societies are so busted right now, why we struggle to put ourselves in other's shoes, and more… then this is the discussion for you.Learn more about Wm. Rev. Sam Hubbard has been appointed as the next Associate Director of Congregational Development and Transformation for the Louisiana Conference. Hubbard currently serves as the campus minister of the Wesley Foundation at Southeastern Louisiana University. We’ve heard from Hubbard before on the Louisiana NOW podcast when we focused on serving meals in the midst of a pandemic. In this episiode, we dig a little deeper with Hubbard himself - hoping you can get to know one of the people who will help transform ministry inside Louisiana. Hubbard knows a lot about transformation - his story is one of transformation itself - as he was once an atheist - how did he become who he is today? How can his past help all of us inside the Conference move forward? Rev. Hubbard described himself as an avid reader and here’s a list of what he’s currently reading: Oikonomics by Mike Breen Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Daniel Tatum The New Testament in It’s World by N.T. Friends I am so excited to share with you my conversation with my friend Jen Hatmaker. If you don’t know Jen’s work- she is a speaker, hosts a really great podcast "For the love," runs an online book club, and has written some fantastic books including her newly released "Fierce, Free and full of fire" (I haven't been able to put it down!) Jen knows a thing or two about making space for people. As Jen began speaking publicly about making space for diversity and LGBTQIA inclusion experienced a fall out with her evangelical roots that included her books being removed from Christian books store shelves. Our conversation covers the importance of making space for our true selves, so that all of our work is authentic and deeply rooted. She is such a delight, and I think you will find encouragement, and a huge challenge to move beyond the superficial versions of ourselves.
