On April 22, 2025, the Cincinnati Reds suffered another tough loss, falling 11-13 to the Miami Marlins in a high-scoring affair at LoanDepot Park. The game, part of a three-game series, saw the Reds struggle defensively, particularly in a disastrous seventh inning that allowed the Marlins to surge ahead. Starting pitcher Graham Ashcraft had a rough outing, unable to contain Miami's offense, while the Reds' bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding. Offensively, TJ Friedl and Jose Trevino each had two hits, and Noelvi Marte blasted a home run, but the team's hard-hit balls often found Marlins' gloves, as noted by fans on X. Despite Nick Martinez's solid relief effort, costly errors and poor situational hitting (1-for-10 with runners in scoring position) doomed Cincinnati. The loss dropped the Reds to 11-13, highlighting ongoing issues with consistency and defense as they aim to avoid a sweep today. The Cincinnati Bengals approach the 2025 NFL Draft with the 17th overall pick and six total selections, aiming to address critical defensive and offensive needs. After a 9-8 season, the focus is on bolstering the defense, which struggled last year, prompting the firing of coordinator Lou Anarumo. Mock drafts project the Bengals targeting impact defenders like Georgia safety Malaki Starks, Ole Miss DT Walter Nolen, or Marshall EDGE Mike Green to complement Trey Hendrickson. The defensive line and secondary, weakened by departures like Sam Hubbard and Vonn Bell, are priorities. Offensively, adding depth at guard or tackle is possible, with Alabama's Parker Brailsford mentioned. With Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins locked in, the pressure is on director Duke Tobin to hit on draft picks to maximize Burrow's prime and return to playoff contention under new coordinator Al Golden.

Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Cincinnati Bengals' roster-building strategy with Mike Potts, a key Bengals' personnel and scouting department member. In this insightful interview, Mike pulls back the curtain on the chaotic yet crucial off-season processes that shape the future of an NFL franchise. The off-season in the National Football League is a whirlwind of activity, and Mike Potts navigates through it all. His area of focus is college scouting, a vital ingredient in the modern NFL, where roster turnover is constant. No roster is the same from one year to the next, and the draft and college free agency are often the lifeblood of franchises looking to rebuild or maintain their competitive edge. Mike begins by vividly describing the current landscape, describing it as a "crazy time of the year" due to the simultaneous whirlwind of free agency, the NFL Combine, and the looming draft. He emphasizes that maintaining a consistent dialogue between the personnel staff, coaching staff, and ownership is crucial for aligning player evaluations and setting clear team goals. He dives into the Bengals' free agency strategy, highlighting the team's priority of re-signing their own players. He underlines the importance of understanding "scheme fit" and "culture fit," ensuring players align with the Bengals' values and locker room dynamics. While acknowledging the large sums of money thrown around in free agency, he stresses the importance of cap management. The Bengals are known for remaining responsible with their cap, and he discusses how the team balances retaining key players with adding talent from other organizations. The interview transitions into discussing the "secondary market" of free agency and finding opportunities beyond the initial bidding frenzy. Mike acknowledges that some players overshot the market, and being patient for the price to come down can present an opportunity. Samaje Perine is discussed, as is his importance to the Bengals organization. Sam Hubbard's departure from the team after an impressive career is also discussed. The discussion moves to the college draft, a central theme of Mike Potts' expertise. He emphasizes the value of players with positional versatility, as NFL rosters are limited in size, and players who can contribute in multiple roles are particularly valuable. He highlights BJ Hill, Mike Gesicki, and Cody Ford as players who can perform at numerous positions. Potts explains why his team is so important to him and the direction of the team. According to him, the team's job is to scout each player and understand everything from their college careers to more personal details. Transitioning to the upcoming NFL Draft, Potts assesses the overall depth and quality of the available talent. He explains that there may not be any first-ballot hall of farmers, but there is still a good amount of depth at various positions. As the interview wraps up, Potts emphasizes the ongoing nature of roster evaluation and improvement. He notes that the Bengals will continue to monitor the free-agent market, assess draft prospects, and identify players who can contribute to the team's success. In The Trenches with Dave Lapham is presented by First Star Logistics. Watch Off the Bench Presented by UDF with Chatterbox Sports Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. LIVE on the Chatterbox Sports YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE to the channel to ensure you never miss a thing. As of March 7, 2025, Cincinnati Bengals' All-Pro defensive end Trey Hendrickson has been granted permission to seek a trade, marking a significant shift after the team rebuffed a similar request in 2024. Hendrickson, who led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024 and earned his first All-Pro nod, is in the final year of his contract, set to earn a $15.8 million base salary with a $18.66 million cap hit in 2025. With no guaranteed money remaining, the 30-year-old edge rusher is seeking a long-term extension that aligns with his elite production—35 sacks over the past two seasons—rather than the one-year extension he signed in 2023. The Bengals' decision to allow this exploration comes amid financial pressures, as they prioritize lucrative extensions for wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, alongside managing Joe Burrow's massive contract. Trading Hendrickson would save Cincinnati $16 million in cap space, though it leaves their defense, already weakened by Sam Hubbard's retirement, in a precarious position. Hendrickson's trade request has sparked interest across the NFL, with several teams emerging as potential suitors. The Detroit Lions, flush with $51 million in cap space, are a prime candidate. After losing Aidan Hutchinson to injury last season, they traded for Za'Darius Smith, but Hendrickson could form a dynamic duo with a recovering Hutchinson, bolstering their pass rush for a Super Bowl push. The Washington Commanders, linked early as suitors, need to replace free agent Dante Fowler Jr.'s 10.5 sacks from 2024. With head coach Dan Quinn favoring an edge-heavy defense, Hendrickson fits their aggressive rebuild. The Atlanta Falcons, desperate for pass-rush help after a lackluster season from Matt Judon, also see Hendrickson as an instant upgrade to complement their NFC South ambitions, though cap constraints may complicate a deal. Other possibilities include the Chicago Bears, leveraging defensive coordinator Dennis Allen's past ties to Hendrickson from New Orleans, and the Indianapolis Colts, where former Bengals coordinator Lou Anarumo now resides. Both teams could pair Hendrickson with existing stars—Montez Sweat in Chicago, DeForest Buckner in Indy—to elevate their defenses. With his market value likely fetching at least a second-round pick, Hendrickson's next move will hinge on a team's willingness to offer both draft capital and a contract nearing the $35 million annual benchmark set by Maxx Crosby.

Chase Burns, the Cincinnati Reds' highly touted pitching prospect, is set to make his much-anticipated professional debut in a Spring Training game against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Wake Forest, Burns has quickly become a cornerstone of the Reds' future plans, boasting a triple-digit fastball and a slider widely regarded as one of the best in the prospect ranks. While this debut won't be televised, fans can still follow along via Statcast data, offering a glimpse into the 22-year-old's electric arsenal as he takes the mound for the first time in a Reds uniform. Burns' journey to this moment has been marked by dominance and deliberate preparation. At Wake Forest, he led college baseball with 191 strikeouts in 100 innings during the 2024 season, earning ACC Pitcher of the Year honors and cementing his status as a top draft talent. His fastball, which can touch 102 mph with exceptional vertical break, pairs devastatingly with a slider that features late, tight movement—attributes that have scouts projecting him as a future ace. After being drafted, the Reds opted to hold him out of minor league action in 2024, instead focusing on instructional league work to ensure he was primed for a full 2025 campaign. This approach mirrors the development path of fellow Wake Forest alum Rhett Lowder, who debuted for the Reds in 2024 just over a year after being drafted. For the Reds, Burns represents a critical piece in their ongoing effort to build a competitive rotation. With young arms like Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, and Lowder already in the mix, Burns' arrival could elevate Cincinnati's pitching staff to elite status. His debut comes at a pivotal time as the Reds aim to rebound from a middling 2024 season and push toward contention under new manager Terry Francona. While Spring Training stats are unofficial, this outing will offer an early look at how Burns' stuff translates against professional hitters, including those from a Rangers squad featuring starter Tyler Mahle. Though Burns is unlikely to break camp with the big-league club, a strong spring could accelerate his timeline to the majors. Reds fans, eager for a glimpse of their top prospect, will be watching closely as he takes his first step toward what many hope will be a transformative career in Cincinnati.

Each year it's estimated that £23 billion worth of help and support – from housing benefits to pension credit – goes unclaimed according to Policy in Practice. We look at the kind of help that is available, and hear from listeners on their experiences trying to claim the benefits they're entitled to, as well as who might be able to get money off their childcare or broadband bills.Presenter Felicity Hannah is joined by a panel of experts who answer your questions on how to make the best of the available support: Rachael Walker, research and policy director at Policy In Practice; Sam Hubbard, Head of Core Services at Citizens Advice in Staffordshire North and Stoke On Trent and David Samson, a benefits expert at Turn2Us.And we hear from a range of people with their own experiences of trying to secure benefits – sometimes during life-changing moments. Gary from Lincolnshire tells us how he had to become a carer for his poorly wife. But during a difficult journey to obtain benefits, it was only by chance that he discovered certain types of support he was entitled to. Meanwhile, Esther from London tells us how she wasn't aware she could be entitled to a carer's allowance for her children – two of whom have complex needs . Watch Off the Bench Presented by UDF with Chatterbox Sports Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. LIVE on the Chatterbox Sports YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE to the channel to ensure you never miss a thing.   Starters Sheldon Rankins and B.J. Hill have both played up to expectation since returning from their hamstring injuries, and key rotational pieces Myles Murphy and McKinnley Jackson are also looking the part since coming off the Reserve/Injured list. The position group is finally in a good place, but it wouldn't take much for them to be even better. This is where a rare Bengals trade could really come in handy, and an obvious target for them is actually someone they've already faced this season. Bengals trading for New York Giants edge defender Azeez Ojulari makes too much sense The Bengals have always valued players who perform well against them, and no one has had a better game rushing quarterback Joe Burrow this year than Ojulari. The former second-round pick tallied six pressures and two sacks during Cincinnati's Week 6 victory over New York. Ojulari has stepped into a larger role for the Giants recently with Kayvon Thibodeaux out with a wrist injury, but even with Thibodeaux now on I.R., the now 2-5 Giants would be smart to start looking towards the future and gaining draft capital where they can. Ojulari is in the last year of his rookie contract and won't be a starter once Thibodeaux returns, which makes him an ideal trade candidate for a selling team. "A former second round draft pick, Ojulari will be hitting free agency in 2025. He's played in 42.9% of the team's defensive snaps and with Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux on the team, it seems like he won't be getting a promotion anytime soon. Ojulari's career has been impacted by injuries, missing significant playing time in 2022 and 2023 but he did set the Giants' rookie sack record with eight back in 2021. The upside is still there." - A to Z Sports' Mauricio Rodriguez The Bengals themselves witnessed said upside against both of their best offensive linemen. Tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims have been studs this year, and Ojulari was still able to get home off the edge. Ojulari would immediately be one of the Bengals' three best pass rushers off the edge and would be an ideal complement to Trey Hendrickson. Joseph Ossai is also on an expiring rookie contract, and both Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard are facing uncertain futures after this season as well. The Bengals could get a great second half of the season out of Ojulari for the price of a low draft pick and maybe even reward him after the season. This also wouldn't be the first time the Bengals have traded for a Giants' defensive lineman. They acquired Hill back in 2021 for the price of Billy Price. Hill has been everything the Bengals wanted him to be, and they've no reason not to like Ojulari's game as well.
