Do you have a person in your life that you can say anything to with zero filter, and you know you will be understood? Kelley Gray is this type of person. She listens compassionately and leaves her judgment at the door. All while offering valuable insight and discernment, guided by wisdom. That's why I loved including her in my podcast series, Good Guides.I have appreciated my friendship with Kelley over the years. We met when I needed some clear guidance. The direction I received from her stayed with me for years. It was her ability to empower me to lean into what my gut was whispering to me that made it a powerful connection. And don't we all need good guides during vulnerable times?Kelley has the ability to shed light on a situation while affirming that your True Self gets to show up well. This makes her stand out as a Good Guide. I trust her because she is experienced in counseling, has a highly successful practice, is well-read and highly intelligent, but mostly because she has a good heart and lives out what she teaches.Listen in to this conversation as I share some of my personal experience in getting guidance from her years ago. Kelley has the ability to make hard topics easy to discuss and understand. The takeaways she shares are invaluable. Her words will empower you to stay connected to your body, listen to your intuition, be guided by wisdom, and take the steps you need to go after the life only you are made for.Much of what we talk about in this episode can be found in my book The Life You're Made ForTo learn more about the Enneagram Personality type assessment, The Enneagram Institute is a great place to start.Cheering you on!Step into The Life You're Made For, I'm cheering you on!heatherpenny.com@heatherpennyphdMusic by Jason SquiresProduction by Cody Vermillion

The core focus of this episode revolves around the intricate dynamics of the instincts, or instinctual biases within the Enneagram framework, specifically addressing the distinctions between the various schools of thought on this subject. We examine the varying perspectives offered by our esteemed teachers, highlighting how these biases or drives can influence behavior and interpersonal relations, while also considering their implications for personal development. As we engage in this multifaceted conversation, we invite listeners to reflect on their own experiences and observations regarding these instinctual drives, as they are essential in shaping our interactions and self-perceptions. Ultimately, we aim to illuminate the complexities and provide clarity on how the instincts can be harnessed for greater self-awareness and growth.Resources:The Narrative Tradition - https://www.narrativeenneagram.org/programs/instincts-subtypes-3/The Enneagram Institute - https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/how-the-enneagram-system-works/#h-the-three-instinctsAwareness to Action - https://awarenesstoaction.com/our-instinctual-biases-three-patterns-of-attention-and-values-and-how-they-shape-the-way-we-work/IEA Pod: Exploring the Instincts & Subtypes pt 1 IEA Pod: Exploring the Instincts & Subtypes pt 2 IEA Pod: Exploring the Instincts & Subtypes pt 3Cognitive Bias Resources - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_biasLogical Fallacies - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies Science Books“Behave” by Robert Sapolsky“Social Chemistry” by Marissa King7 ½ Lessons About the Brain” by Lisa Feldman Barrett“The Selfish Gene” by Richard Dawkins“Basic Instinct: The Genesis of Behavior” by Mark S. This is Part Three of our preview for our next 10-session course, New Perspectives on the Enneagram for Troubled Times, featuring Chelsea Forbrook and Rev. Nhien Vuong.  Those familiar with the Enneagram know what a powerful tool for self-discovery and insight it can be. With that in mind we are pleased to announce our latest 10 session course offering from SDI – New Perspectives on the Enneagram for Spiritual Directors and Companions. This unique online course offering from SDI offers spiritual directors and companions the opportunity to connect with peers who are on the leading edge of the Enneagram field.  This course will give seasoned Enneagram explorers the opportunity to take a deep dive and develop new perspectives about the use of this medium in spiritual direction and companionship, while honing new skills and approaches to their practice and calling. We recently hosted a preview of this series, inviting many of our Presenters for this course to share their perspectives – what's new, what's stirring for them, how does exploration of the Enneagram take them beyond archetpyes and personality types – and into deeper reality and identity? To learn more about the presenters, the course, and to register, go to sdicompanions.org. You do not need to be a spiritual director, or an SDI Member to attend (though members receive large discounts on the registration price). --- Chelsea Forbrook is the author of “Blessing My Demons: How to Name, Tame & Transform Your Inner Critic,” available in stores and on Amazon October 2023. Chelsea was awarded a scholarship from Spiritual Directors International (SDI) to be a part of the New Contemplatives cohort in 2018 (a selected group of outstanding spiritual directors under age 40), and is a current member of SDI. Chelsea Forbrook is the President of Enneagram Minnesota, and is a Spiritual Director and Enneagram educator based in Minneapolis, MN. She takes great delight in making spiritual principles and practices easy and accessible for all. Chelsea is certified through Full Circle Enneagram, The Enneagram Institute, Russ Hudson's year long Depth Certification in Conscious Living, The Somatic Enneagram, and is an accredited professional through the International Enneagram Association (IEA). She teaches a five month experiential Enneagram course for personal transformation, is the creator of the Enneaplaque (a meditation tool for awakening), and hosts a podcast called “The Enneagram of Essence.” Before Chelsea discovered the Enneagram, she was immersed in anti-racism facilitation work through ASDIC (Anti Racism Study Dialogue Circles), the YWCA, and People's Institute for Survival and Beyond. Chelsea holds a degree in religious studies with an emphasis on Liberation Theology, and a certificate in Leadership Toward Racial Justice from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Be sure to select the "Classical Test."  Read about your results through the Enneagram Institute here.   In this episode we explore the phenomenon of codependency within professional environments, particularly the healthcare field, with our special guest, Dr. Nicole Piemonte. A PhD holder in Medical Humanities, Dr. Piemonte has dedicated her career to the human facets of medical practice. In this discussion, we delve into Dr. Piemonte's career origins and personal journey with codependency. She describes a prevalent pattern of trauma-induced codependency within the health sector, typically characterized by 'rescuing' and 'fixing' patients—a behavior that draws parallels with institutional people-pleasing and poses significant hindrance to effective care. Further in the conversation, we examine how codependency—stemming from a deep-rooted need to be needed—leads caregivers to self-neglect due to their inherent desire to help others. Surprisingly, narcissism and codependency share this common root of trauma, offering a new perspective on the familiar trope of the narcissist physician. Nicole sheds light on the falseness of the emotion-free detachment often seen in medicine. Arguing that compassion fatigue emerges from not feeling anything, rather than ‘feeling too much', she emphasizes the role of emotional reconnection in aiding clinicians to regain self-contentment and fulfillment. Nicole discusses how through supportive coaching and introspection, it's possible to replace these maladaptive coping mechanisms with healthier ones.    00:00:07 Exploring Codependency in Professional Spaces 00:10:26 The tendency to fix and rescue in medicine 00:14:03 Recognizing codependency in personal and work relationships 00:20:51 Caretaking and Codependency 00:23:11 Coaching and Reconnecting to Meaning and Purpose in Medicine 00:31:12 Reconnecting with Emotions and the Healing Path 00:33:11 Compartmentalization as a Life Strategy and its Consequences Thank you for liking, following and reviewing this podcast. To miss the heart of God is to miss the heart of the Christian faith. Watch the series here - Heart to Heart: https://bit.ly/3PL01bf. The past 3 Sundays we've talked about the Heart of God toward his people, told through one of Jesus' parables (parable = story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson). In this Overtime episode, we talk more in depth about the heart of God and what we can learn from the parable. We are all “lost” (lost = separated from God) but the good news is that we can all accept God's invitation to “come home” (come home =  be in relationship with God). He is a good father and he is patient. He gives us the freedom to choose whether or not we come home or stay lost.  But he will always be on the porch waiting for us. RESOURCES / REFERENCESEnneagram Institute - https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/For Talks - Four Steps for Forgiveness: https://bit.ly/46l5JG2Overtime - Finding Forgiveness: https://bit.ly/45Z0NXUMessage Series - You've Got a Friend in Me: https://bit.ly/3Lvg9v2Counseling: https://www.npaustin.com/counselingMentoring: https://www.npaustin.com/mentoringTime with God: https://bit.ly/3EMIOI1NEXT STEPS: Wherever you are, we want to help you discover what's next: https://www.npaustin.com/whatsnext. STAY CONNECTED: Subscribe to stay up-to-date on all things Northpoint: https://www.youtube.com/@NorthpointAustin.Website: https://npaustin.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/experienceno...Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northpoint_ch/ABOUT US:We believe that for too long, the church has been known for what it's against. Here are the five key themes to know about relationships with Enneagram Type Nine Peacemakers. These themes span the entire spectrum of healthy vs unhealthy 9s, so BE WARNED! These episodes contain more critical commentary than your average enneagram content on social media as I believe that's the heart of the enneagram's purpose (i.e. self-critical reflection that leads to true self-acceptance, healing, and personal growth). It's also not a one-size-fits all episode, so some of this should not resonate with everyone, especially in the higher levels of health. In this episode, I'm exploring a complex topic that isn't discussed much. I've enlisted my bestie, Amy Firth, and together with laughter and truth-bombs, we unpack the unique grief of friendships ending.  I've really felt a pull lately to find a way to address this topic. There's so much out there about different types of relationship endings: death, divorce, breakups, and separation, but rarely do I come across conversations that address the unique and profound grief that comes with the end of a friendship. Anchored in our own friendship of 20+ years, join Amy & I as we explore the changing landscapes of friendships and share our own experiences of what helped us sit with and work through the pain and discomfort of friendships ending. “You can still really lovingly hold space for someone and not have them in your life.” - Amy Firth KEY TIMESTAMPS 05:12 - Why it feels so different to other breakups or bereavements. 08:35 - How simple ritual can help us articulate our grief. 14:02 - The importance of clear communication & having difficult conversations. 16:53 - Is conflict constructive or destructive? 18:38 - Amy's experience of going to therapy with a friend. 24:30 - Allowing the seasons & cycles of different friendships. 30:01 - Soul connections and when friendships serve their purpose. 35:03 - How stepping back & letting go can be the most loving act. 39:13 - Are women hardwired to protect the home/our sense of belonging? 49:46 - How the 'Honouring Endings' ritual is a simple tool to honour the endings of friendships. 56:11 - Soul Inquiry Prompts   SOUL INQUIRYSoul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self.  The Soul Inquiry prompts for this episode are:Have you experienced a friendship ending before?
