Death Row inmates are among some of the most forgotten populations in our society, but not for “The Shack” author, Wm. Paul Young, and his friend, Wes Yoder. Paul and Wes have been spending a lot of time doing what Jesus said in Matthew 25, “I was in prison and you came to visit me,” spending time with a group of Jesus' followers on Death Row in a Nashville prison. Young, whose book “The Shack” has sold over 20 million copies and was adapted into a blockbuster movie, exudes the love of God everywhere he goes with a message of acceptance and grace for all. Receiving God's grace in a tangible way from his wife and family after admitting to a three-year affair and facing the dark memories of childhood sexual abuse and rejection became the basis for “The Shack” that has impacted millions with a fresh look at the love and forgiveness of God for us, in spite of our own anger towards Him. Included in this episode is a cellphone conversation with death row inmate Terry King, who shares the profound story of his conversion after reading “The Shack'' and his treasured relationships with Young and Yoder. He also tells about his profound reconciliation with a close family member of the man who lost his life at Terry's hands thirty-nine years ago. Show host John Chisum, Young, and long-time friend, Wes Yoder, explore how the love of Christ reaches every person on the planet regardless of their life circumstances, including being incarcerated.  Wes Yoder has helped promote speakers and authors for over four decades including Wm. Paul Young, Rick Warren (The Purpose Driven Life), and many more through The Ambassador Agency. This week we dive into the 2nd half of our panel discussion on Jesus & Trauma. Once again, my guests are Wm. Paul Young, Alison Cook, Ph.D, Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe and Ahmeda Mansaray-Richardson. Building on the discussion in the first half, where the lenses of psychology, neurology, theology, and cultural studies were applied to matters of identity, brokenness, colonialism, institutional religious structures, diversity and more, we went after forgiveness and reconciliation next. Welcome to the 100th episode of The Puddcast! As I looked back over the first 3 years I realized that the intersection of Jesus & trauma formed a throughline across many conversations. I wanted to do something special and so I assembled a panel to discuss this subject. My guests are Wm. Paul Young, Alison Cook, Ph.D, Dr. Jerome D. Lubbe and Ahmeda Mansaray-Richardson. We went so deep and long that I've split the discussion into 2 parts, with the 2nd part coming next week. Using the lenses of psychology, neurology, theology, cultural studies, and more we look at identity, brokenness, colonialism, institutional religious structures, diversity and more. If you've ever wished to know precisely why it's so hard to believe that God loves you, if you've wanted to understand yourself better, to know why our societies are so busted right now, why we struggle to put ourselves in other's shoes, and more… then this is the discussion for you.Learn more about Wm. Holiness is a relational term, fundamentally, nothing to do with sin and all that kind of stuff that we grew up thinking…. Wholeness is when the way of your being matches the truth of your being. Wholeness is when how you live your life and the choices you make is an expression of the truth of your being.” Bill Mounce. ἅγιος. https://www.billmounce.com/greek-dictionary/hagios When Young quotes Luther, he neglects to provide any reference as to where Luther makes this statement, but I did find an article from a somewhat reputable source that discusses the alleged statement made by Luther. The article states that Luther never explicitly made this statement, but that it is in line with his teachings. Terah dies there and then Abram, his wife Sarai, and Lot leave for the future Israel, but they find it occupied by the Canaanites. Fast-forward 450 years or so, and Abraham’s descendants have been enslaved in Egypt, rescued by God from slavery, and then have to fight to take the land which God had promised and planned to give them originally without a fight. Romans 8:28 (ESV): And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. John 3:19 (ESV): And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. On Truth Some might contend that Atheism is not a religion, but I submit to you that atheists exhibit the same faith in the lacking of a deity as those who cling to any deity. Concluding Remarks Acts 17:11 (ESV): Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
