Comments? Questions? Send us a message!Pastor John Knapp of Calvary Chapel Green Valley in Henderson, Nevada is passionate about the Lord Jesus Christ and he and the fellowship he pastors are experiencing a wonderful time of renewal in the Holy Spirit. So, that's what we're going to speaking with him about today … we'll hear their testimony and the wisdom the Spirit has given them.John is the founding pastor of CC Green Valley and has pastored for years. I (Bill Holdridge) met John through being practically neighbors, and through the monthly senior pastor's breakfast that happens in Las Vegas. It's been said of some churches that if the Holy Spirit completely vacated the building and fellowship life, things wouldn't miss a beat. Implying, of course, that all they had been doing was energized by human effort only, and not influenced by the very One Jesus prayed about to His Father, that He (the Holy Spirit) would be our parakletos. How might a senior pastor move more into the realm and ministry of the Holy Spirit? How does a pastor or congregation become open to the person of the Holy Spirit? What has Calvary Chapel Green Valley learned about how to seek God for and be open to the Holy Spirit's direction in the life of the pastor and the church?____________________________Obviously, Poimen Ministries believes in the perpetuity of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and in the necessity of the Holy Spirit for a fruitful walk with the Lord and fruitful lives of ministry. Good news is hard to come by in the world of plant conservation, but it is out there! Take, for instance, some recent examples on Santa Cruz Island in which the recovery of a handful of endangered plants, including island bedstraw (Galium buxifolium) and Santa Cruz Island Dudleya (Dudleya nesiotica), has been so successful, they have been delisted. That doesn't mean conservationists no longer have to worry. Join me and John Knapp from The Nature Conservancy as we explore the ins and outs of plant conservation on Santa Cruz island and what it is going to take to keep rare plants from getting back on the Endangered Species List. Hello, Brave and Kind Earthlings, beautiful co-creators--Thank you for joining me for this episode of the Authentic Action Podcast. I am excited about this episode because it is the first after a long pause of more than 6 months, for personal grieving and adjustment to the new paradigm we find ourselves in. I feel have been preparing for such a shift most of my life and still it has taken some getting used to. Unexpected twists and turns abound, even as they are all in line with predictions and logical expectations.I am pleased to get back in the swing of things gently in this friendly conversation about The Warrior Spirit, with a long-time friend of mine who I feel embodies this spirit well in his own unique way.He has held high standing amidst his fellow reenactment warriors in the SCA, and also overcome personal challenges to continue to set an inspiring example of how to be an upstanding person, human, man, and warrior.I hope you enjoy this casual conversation as we explore a little bit of his own personal journey, Without further ado, I introduce The infamous Black Duke himself, Mr. John Knapp. I hope you enjoyed our brief exploration of what it means to live a creative life with a warrior spirit. I feel like we could have dove a lot deeper into several aspects of this conversation, but I am glad we got our feet a little wet and look forward to picking up momentum in the coming months and years. As always, I thank you for listening, and I welcome your questions and comments if you care to share any.Thumbnail artwork by Elijah Tinker. Also, if you are thinking about starting your own podcast, check out buzzsprout! With the UTS (Ultra Tour Snowdonia) cancelled Howard needed something to fill the void. "What about the Steve Parr Round?" asked Paul Willson. Just 5 days later Howard set off to not only complete the round but to break a record that has stood since 1984! The Steve Parr Round is 61 Lakeland Summits, about 116 miles, about 42,550 feet of ascent! Howard set a new record of 42hours 37minutes and 15 seconds! We chat about training, change of plans, the round itself and big up the community! Sabrina Verjee - What an amazing athlete and example being set in our sport. Sabrina set out to try to set a new record for ascending "All of the Wainwrights". There are 214 mountain peaks in the Lake District in the UK that Alfred WainWright wrote about in his 7 volume book. A few people have run them all, the route covers 318miles and over 4 times the ascent of Mt Everest. Last year Paul Tierney took the record from Steve Birkenshaw. This year Sabrina attempted it. Completed it. And then gained an even greater reputation by declaring "It's not a record". Sabrina was running, walking, crawling, bum sliding for almost 7 days to complete this epic adventure. Due to injury Sabrina had to lean on some of her supporters to safely descend some hills backwards. Therefore Sabs has rejected the record and vowed to come back and complete it in a pure style in the sprit of British fell running. We catch up with Sabs tired again after supporting her husband Ben on his "Bob Graham Round". Sabrina is absolutely clear that the support of her wonderful crew made it a fantastic adventure and would like to take every opportunity to thank: Her husband Ben, Kim Collison, Jacob and Sabina Snochowski, Simon Mills, Sally Fawcett, Tim Miller, Steve Birkinshaw, Tom and Astrid Gibbs, Paul Tierney, Dave Cummins, Charlie Sproson, Jeff Powell Davies, Joe Faulkner, Helen Jackson, James Thurlow, Victoria Rose-Miller, Ben Abdelnour, Shane Ohly, Josh Hartley, John Knapp, Neil Talbott, Nicky Spinks, Mike and Hazel Robinson, Lou Roberts, Bruce Duncan, Dave Spence, Peter Sowerby, Rob Bond, Giles Ruck, Paul Wilson, Gaynor Prior, Wendy Dodds, Jonathan Whilock, Dan Duxbury and Howard Dracup. The Civil War was fought largely with guns and cannons. But a damaged sword carried in a famous St. Louis battle tells the story of a defeat felt deeply by the man who carried it."Well you have probably seen John Knapp's sword. It is not in one piece anymore and neither were many of the swords of his comrades dating to that day of may 10th in 1861" said Dr. Robert Archibald. It was known as the battle of Camp Jackson though it was more of a riot than a battle. Newspaper publisher John Knapp was there. Not as a journalist. But as a member of the Confederate-leaning state militia. Which had set up camp in what is now midtown St. Louis. When Union troops began to worry the Confederate leaning militia might try to take over the St. Louis armory. The government troops surrounded them and moved in to arrest them."No one knows who fired the first shot. Most of the people who were killed were actually civilians who had come to watch the capture of these state militia troops but when it was all said and done three dozen or so people were dead. Mr. Knapp was absolutely dismayed he was one of the Confederate sympathizers who was a part of the state militia. He was dismayed when the shooting broke out and was revolted by it. He saw it as close to murder. He took his sword and smashed it and broke it in two and a number of his fellow officers did the same." Said Dr. Robert Archibald of the Missouri History Museum. The battle of Camp Jackson is considered the first Civil War battle in Missouri. But because we were a border state the battle lines were muddled With Missourians fighting for both armies. That included John Knapp. Who despite his anger with the federal troops on that day. Ended up serving with the Union army.
