Hey Hsweeties, we're still donating for July, and it's the same places! Black lives matter, black trans lives matter, stay active and be safe and wear a mask! Links below. https://www.paypal.me/theokraproject https://www.gofundme.com/f/homeless-black-trans-women-fund Just like last week, we’re going back to our roots, but this time, it’s our roots of just doing random movies we like, and this week it’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! This movie is so good y’all. We talk a LOT about how good this movie is and Josiah talks WAY too much about Spider-Man, because it’s his favorite. Josiah also gives Mike a new round of Real or Fake about which alternate universe Spider-People are real…or fake? Stick around for the end for Josiah’s review of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark. No themes, no gimmicks, just back to basics. And this episode’s topic is near and dear to our hearts, as we’re sure it is to all Hsweeties’ hearts: CHILI. Special thanks to listener Colleen who inspired us to review chili with her excellent breakdown of How Star Wars Skyline Chili is, which we read on the show. We also talk chili cook-offs, the international phonetic alphabet, and Mike introduces Family Food (which may be a Doughboys rip off, and if it is, then get off our dick, doughboys, #goodDB) where Josiah has to guess all the ingredients in a copycat recipe of skyline chili. The topic we’ve been building towards all month! Hamilton! And we’ve got another guest to help us out! John Patrick Coan of Hey Riddle Riddle, a billion other podcasts, and many improv stages in Chicago. We discuss all things Hamilton, including the wildly important nights in American history that both JPC and Josiah saw the show for the first time, and, in the spirit of JPC’s riddling pedigree, Mike debuts a new edition of These Are Riddles entitled Alex-Blank-er Blank-ilton. We discuss Luke’s past as a community theatre performer in Ohio, his love for Skyline Chili, and how much The Music Man kinda sucks. And Josiah brings the game Real or Fake (which is a new blanket term for this kind of game that I just invented) but this time it’s about musical instruments! And unfortunately, there’s a lot of Jizz talk. You know. Jizz. The Star Wars music genre. Also, apologies for the slight audio echo of our voices occasionally, we had some technical difficulties. This is our longest episode yet because we just could not stop talking about High School Musical. We covered the whole series, which is strangely so much and so little all at the same time. We have another special guest this week, Josiah’s partner Charlie Irving! She is a Chicago actor and writer and is an expert in all things High School Musical. Hello Hsweeties and listenerds! First things first, we wanna say Black Lives Matter, and we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in these crazy times. As we mentioned in the message at the beginning of the show, we're donating to the Chicago bail fund to help protesters who have been arrested and to the Minnesota group Take Back the Block which focuses on getting city funding away from police and towards actual community resources. Click those links to donate. Or click here to find the bail fund for your city and here for other groups across the country working to build up black communities and stop police violence. We've never been super shy about our politics on the show, so if this bothers you, send us an email, and maybe we can talk about how this isn't a political issue, this is life and death for black people.  Now for the show notes! It's the first week of June-sical theatre month and we're talking about Rent! The musical, not the concept. Mike and Josiah are musical theatre nerds anyway, but neither of them has a big connection to the show Rent, so we brought in some back-up: Caitlyn Cerza, actor, musical theatre artist, and conveniently, Mike's girlfriend who lives in the same place as him! So no quarantine guidelines were broken! Yay! We were so glad to have Caitlyn back, because she truly does not care about Star Wars, and it helps ground us every time sh's on the show. We dig into our Rent journeys, nerd out about musicals in general, and Josiah debuts a game that Mike and Caitlyn pass with flying colors because they respectively know the songs "We Didn't Start the Fire" and "La Vie Boheme" far too well.  If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. We mention it at the top, but this episode was recorded a while ago, pre-quarantine and before Covid-19 was spreading widely through the U.S. So don't worry! We're staying safe and following all the social distancing guidelines. Mike had Blaze over many months ago. Okay, now on with the notes! Alright! We're covering one of the all-time great trilogies and all-time great hero's journeys! The Lord of the Rings! Mike's good friend and old pal Blaze Burke joins us as a more expert voice on LOTR than ours, but mostly as a big fan! Since this was recorded a while ago, we do end up talking about Rise of Skywalker a lot, haha, but we do dig a little into the LOTR movies and lore! But don’t worry, it’s still a super special episode, it’s just not bonus. We take a look back at last year’s May the Fourth episode and take stock of the year that has transpired. Waaaaah! Goo goo gah gah! *Pbbbblt* Those are baby noises! Because How Star Wars Is It? is officially one year old! That’s right, one whole year! That’s young for a human, decently old for a podcast, and like Josiah mentions in this episode, longer than any relationship he’s ever been in! We’re celebrating by taking a look back *wink* at some of our favorite clips of the show from the past year. *wink wink* You may remember some of these classic bits, like *wink* the time Hayden Christensen subbed in for Mike as co-host or the time the boys sang the intro to the episode! (I’m sure you’ve figured this out from listening, but this episode was actually us improvising different scenarios we individually came up with and sprang on each other while recording.) We had a lot of fun recording this celebratory episode, and we hope you had fun listening to it! Thanks for sticking with HSWII for one whole year! We really do love you, and may the fourth truly be with you all! If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. Hello there Hsweeties! Take a trip down memory lane with us, won’t you? Fire up Disney Plus, and remember a simpler time when Disney didn’t have a vice grip on all media yet and made a fun, strangely good movie about a theme park attraction. We’re talking Pirates of the Caribbean today! Specifically, only the first one, The Curse of the Black Pearl, because the rest of them suck increasingly as they go on. Mike and Josiah reminisce about the millions of times their families watched this movie, quote the movie possibly too many times, and Mike debuts another trivia game that made Josiah feel like a real dum dum. (Also, quick disclaimer. We talked about Johnny Depp and the allegations against him ever so briefly, but this was recorded before the more recent evidence against Amber Heard was brought to light. We’re not making any value judgments in the end either way, I just wanted to clarify that. Okay, back to jokes!) If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. Recently, we had noted Sonic expert Pete Byrne as a guest on the show. Conveniently, the new formerly-terrifying-now-much-more-palatable CGI Sonic movie is coming out this week! We thought we'd take advantage of the timing and have Pete back on the show to discuss all things Sonic the Hedgehog. The video games that is. We are not cool Hollywood insiders and don't have access to advance screenings. Although that would be cool! So if anyone knows what a podcast has to do to get that privilege, please let us know. This episode has everything for new and old Sonic fans alike! We talk Sonic bedsheets, Sonic animated shows, the weird amount of sexy Sonic fan art on the Internet, the amazing music in Sonic, you name it! Josiah brings in an updated version of an old game, newly dubbed Apples and Oranges, comparing the quality of Star Wars movies with the quality of Sonic games. The boys also discover their Sonicsonas, in a horrifying and intriguing segment that you Hsweeties should definitely play along with at home. Rise and shine you woodchuck chuckers, it's the How Star Wars Is It? Groundhog Day Special! Since we talked about the movie Groundhog Day during holiday month without our resident Groundhog Day expert Michael DeLaney, we figured we'd make it up to him by having him on the show to talk about a different movie entirely! That's right, we're diving into the niche genre of Groundhog Day inspired time loop movies of which there is no better example than the underrated Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt sci-fi outing, Edge of Tomorrow. Or Live Die Repeat. The name of the movie is wildly inconsistent across all viewing platforms, it's very confusing. Mike shares a new game pinpointing scenes from different time loop movies, we end up talking about Rise of Skywalker again of course, and in an unintentional meta turn, Mike and Josiah manage to echo many of the exact thoughts they shared in the Groundhog Day episode, much to DeLaney's chagrin. We're talking this week about the weird and wacky world of pre-Disney Star Wars. This episode is a little different, as we are talking a little bit about a lot of different Star Wars content that Mike and Josiah are familiar with. Books! Video games! Comics! You name it! We have a little bit of everything in this episode. We would love to dive down deeper into specific EU/Legends books and games and such in the future, but for now, we thought we'd start out by giving y'all a scattershot of our feelings about the expanded universe as a whole. It is time! And because we're parodies of ourselves, we actually talk about several things that we talked about in later December and January episode, such as Skyline Chili. So weirdly, we're not repeating ourselves in this episode, we were actually repeating ourselves in the OTHER episodes. Okay, just wanted to let y'all know. Carry on. *End disclaimer* Man, it felt good to talk about a real genuine Star Wars movie again back when we recorded this! Before Rise of Skywalker dashed all our hopes and sent us into a long depression that we still haven't come out of. How many casino planets are there in Star Wars? How much blue milk is too much blue milk? Hello Hsweeties! Welcome back from vacation! Load up those podcasts and get ready for the workweek before New Year’s Eve awkwardly interrupts and gives everyone a big hangover. Speaking of New Year’s Eve, we’re finishing out holiday month and 2019 in classic HSWII fashion: by doing an episode that is based on a joke that Mike and I made in a previous episode that will hopefully still be funny. That’s right, for the spooky-themed month of October, we skipped out on the movie Halloween from 1978 by John Carpenter. But to close our holiday month, we figured we’d bring it full circle and give the people what they’ve been asking for. More John Carpenter, more Mike Myers (both of them), and more of Mike’s killer impressions. We here at HSWII hope everyone had a great holiday season and that the good times continue into the New Year! Not to tip our hand too much, but Mike and I didn't like this movie, and it was hard to talk about it in our normal non-negative way. But! We didn't want to be a downer, so Mike and Caitlyn (whom you might remember from the Shark Tank episode) recorded some moments of positivity that are dispersed throughout the episode. That is assuming you listen to your podcasts sitting down all the time. Along the way, Mike does his best to NOT use Star Wars terms and Josiah discovers he's maybe not as afraid of scary movies as he thought he was. You can catch our pal C.J. performing in a bunch of different places in Chicago including the Annoyance Theatre and at Second City. Well Hsweeties and listenerds, fall is in the air. Feel that crisp chill in the air, get rid of those summer candles, and bust out your medium jacket. But wait...what's that?? Our idyllic fall day is being interrupted by...s-s-s-s-SCARY STUFF. That's right folks, get comfortable, because we're doing another theme month. But don't get TOO comfortable, because the theme this month is all spooky subjects, all the time. We're kicking this month off with the only scary movie that Mike and Josiah had both seen. Of course it had to be Cabin in the Woods. In what may be our most cohesive episode with the least tangents yet, we talk about everything from Wendy's to tripophobia to the Monster Mash to another sure to be classic installment of These Are Riddles, this time written by Mike himself. Mike and Josiah came up with a very funny joke about the Green Day song Wake Me Up When September Ends and they decided to do a whole episode based on it. It's very cool and great and original and no one else has ever made the joke. Don't look it up. Anyway, September is ending, and we're here to wake up Billie Joe Armstrong by figuring out how Star Wars his dang upstart punk band is. We somehow talk more about the song Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard than any actual Green Day song in this episode, but hey, that's HSWII for you. Josiah also debuts a new game called These Are Riddles and it might be his worst yet. If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. Today is the autumnal equinox, and to celebrate the change of seasons, this week we're reviewing everyone's favorite seasonal beverage, pumpkin spice lattes! Part pumpkin, part spice, ALL latte, the PSL is a mainstay of fall all over the world. Well, maybe not the world, but definitely the U.S. Do they have PSLs in other countries? Do other countries like pumpkin flavored things as much as Americans do? These are the questions I am asking right now and that we do not cover on the podcast. But we do get into our coffee journeys, weird parts of the X-Men universe, and of course, Mike debuts a new trivia game that will surely have you listenerds yelling at your iPods and Zunes while you play along. Programming note! This episode was originally intended to come out the first week of September, but Josiah goofed it up and posted them out of order. Oh well! Welcome back Listenerds! We are finally making good on our promise, nay, our mission, nay OUR PURPOSE to review anything and everything, so we're taking a step away from traditional media and a step towards concepts. This week, we're determining how Star Wars is moving? Like, the idea of moving apartments or houses, etc. We also take a trip to the Wendy's corner and talk about all the new Star Wars news we got at that Disney expo thing, whatever it's called. I refuse to look it up. And we go through our top 3 most moving episodes from Star Wars. Get it? Moving?? If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. Well, Shark Month is officially over and we're back to your regularly scheduled HSWII programming. Or at least, as regular as this show gets. We're looking at yet another Spielberg movie that pioneered new visual effects and launched a blockbuster franchise, Jurassic Park! This episode gets a little scattershot, which just means we cover a lot of ground! Mike debuts a new game, Dern, and we discover a new segment of the podcast called The Taylor Swift Pinecone sponsored by Rhymezone.com. Well Hsweeties and Listenerds, we've come to the end of Shark Month, or Mark, as it were. We know, we know. We're as sad as you are. Which is to say, probably not that sad. But we had some fun along the way! We had some laughs! And there's more laughs and fun to be had!  We couldn't fit all the shark-related things in one month, so for this finale episode, we're doing some IISW (is it Star Wars?) assessments on 8 more shark things.  Stay tuned to the very end for a sure to be hit game, Marry Shark Marry, and enjoy Josiah getting progressively more upset at Mike for all the dumb shark movies he's now going to have to watch.   If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. Welcome back Hsweeties and Listenerds! We are knee-deep in Shark Month, or Mark, as it were! (Apologies to all actual people named Mark.) We're reviewing the OG shark movie this week! Jaws! Which neither Mike nor Josiah had seen before they watched it for this episode. You might be asking yourself, did these boys live under a rock their whole lives? How have they not seen so many very important and good movies? And you'd be right in asking those questions! But maybe turn those questions back onto yourself for once. An unexamined life is not worth living, after all. We talk a lot about how good and weird a movie Jaws is in this episode, do a fan cast of a modern remake of Jaws, and Mike brings back an old game, Stranger Things, but in this case, it's called Stranger Things or Jaws, but don't worry, it's still a Star Wars trivia game. Welcome to week two of Shark Month listenerds! Or as we call it here in the industry, Mark! We can't get enough sharks over here at A Good Podcast Studios. So of course we HAD to do the most important shark movie, arguably and regrettably, of the last decade: Sharknado! Mike and Josiah dig deep into the weird world of The Asylum film studio and emerge stinky and dirty from the filth of the masses. This episode is a little shorter than usual because we lost a bit of audio during recording, but don't worry, you just missed out on a typical blistering hot HSWII take and Josiah complaining about people on the Internet. So pretty par for the course. If you have any comments or suggestions, you can email us at agoodpodcast@gmail.com. Or hit us up on Instagram and Twitter @howstarwarsisit. (Just a quick heads up, Josiah's audio sounds a little rough for the first 20 minutes of the episode because his computer was being a punk, so we had to use the backup Skype recording. Everything after that is the usual quality though!) Uh-oh, Hsweeties! The summer is coming to a close, and you know what that means! That's right, it's Shark Week! Or rather, it WAS Shark Week. Now it's Shark MONTH. We're kicking off a whole month of shark-themed episodes because it's our podcast, and we do whatever makes us laugh.  And speaking of stuff that makes us laugh, we have the amazing and hilarious Chicago actor, artist, and all-around awesome gal Caitlyn Cerza on the podcast today! Mike is also her boyfriend! Nice! Mike and Caitlyn are experts on the tv show that is the most quintessential of all shark media, Shark Tank.
