This week the lads take a look at two vastly different film. One a cult classic the other a festive film that may become a family favourite in time.John Carpenters The Thing is probably his best film to date. Starring Kurt Russell at his best this film is a must watch for sci-fi fans and still holds up today. It's worth watching for the practical effects alone. Hot Frosty isn't. Er Still Wakes the Deep et gyserspil, du bør spille? Still Wakes the Deep er et første-persons gyserspil udviklet af engelske The Chinese Room og udgivet af Sumo Group Limited. The Chinese Room har tidligere skabt de roste spil Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs og Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

"At an Antarctic research station, a crack team of mostly not scientists discover some kind of Dog Thing. And whilst obviously not a dog, The Thing (1982) goes onto become everyone else, and nobody knows who is and who isn't a Thing. Maybe everyone is a Thing, we don't know... that's very clear in this episode."- Evan Thing, 2024.Music created by Jack Parsons.Follow us on Twitter & Instagram and check out our YouTube channel.

"Instant-Trash!

This week you chose John Carpenters The Thing 1982You had your choice between Jurassic Park, TMNT II: Secret Of The Ooze or John Carpenters The Thing. John Carpenter was panned by critics and audiences alike who weren't ready for the in your face practical effects and the expertly depicted body horror jump scares littered throughout this masterpiece of horror and suspense. While we can appreciate the genius in this film now, the backlash upon release had a long term effect on John Carpenters career and ultimately made him somewhat bitter towards the film industry as a whole. This film stands against the test of time defiantly as proof of when we all let a legendary film maker down and a reminder of what we could have missed out on for being so quick to dismiss a film. While you listen don't forget to cast your vote for which movie we review next! The choices are The Man In The Iron Mask 1998, The 13th Warrior 1999, The Running Man 1987, or The Prophecy 1995Poll is posted on Twitter @MoviesAgainstMovies Against Time is a bi-weekly film retrospective podcast hosted by married couple Sylvia and Dustin along with their long time friend Bob. As always, be alert for poaching ahead. 00:00 James introduces the part 2 episode and we jump back into the podcast starting our discussion with our top 5 favorite science fiction across all media. 3:20 Jack kicks off our top five lists with his tied picks: “The Day the Earth Stood Still” and “Forbidden Planet” 6:30 Chris gives us his number 5, “Dark City;" this starts a conversation about the movie and we end up comparing it to “The Matrix." 9:50 We turn to Joe, who came to the podcast with three lists for his favorites: one for movies, television, and books. His number 5 choices are the novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," the movie “Ghostbusters," and the television show “Warehouse 13." 12:54 James reveals his number 5 pick is a tie between “The Fly” (1986) and “John Carpenters The Thing” - both horror science fiction. 17:10 Jack shares his number 4 pick: the movie “Gattaca.” 19:20 Chris gives us his number 4 pick: “Star Wars." Wells “The Time Machine."Jack talks about the themes in the book and movie, as well as the visuals that the movie presented. 39:16 Chris warns that his number 3 pick possibly includes an asterisk: the television series, “Farscape.” Chris gives us an overview of the series and the highlights that drew him to it. 44:45 Joe gives us his number 3 choices, beginning with Alfred Bester's novel, “The Stars My Destination," continuing with the movie “Star Trek: The Voyage Home," and ending with his television pick, “Babylon 5." 50:03 James gives us his number 3 pick: “Jurassic Park,” both the movie and the book. 52:33 Jack's number 2 pick is “Contact:” both the movie and the book. Jack shares an overview of the movie and book, noting how it has a very few miracle exemptions. 56:43 Chris reveals his number 2 choice: the book “Enders Game." He first notes that he does not agree with nor respect Orson Scott Card's publicly homophobic and hateful views, but moves into talking about the merits of the book and the importance of its message. 1:01:37 Joe gives his number 2 picks, starting with the book “The Foundation Series” by Isaac Asimov. His television series choice is “Star Trek: The Original Series," and his number 2 movie is “E.T”. 1:04:44 James gives his number 2 with an asterisk, the movie “Iron Man." He calls back to the first part of our discussion on how the introduction of the novum affects the main character. 1:12:10 Chris shares that his number 1 pick is the book series as well as the television series, “The Expanse." Chris gives a loving overview of both the written and filmed series.

On this episode of Cinedicate, we unearth an ancient secret in the Antarctic tundra. Doug Levinson, a screenplay writer, joins this week to talk about a recent horror screenplay he penned and John Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi horror, The Thing. John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape From New York) modernizing the sci-fi creature feature from 1951 The Thing From Another World, The Thing is a story of a remote research group that uncovers the find of the century – alien life. After contact, the alien parasite infects the crew one by one. Captain MacReady (Kurt Russell, The Hateful Eight and Marvel's The Guardians of the Galaxy) is left to protect the research group from an invisible enemy.
On this episode the Knerds review John Carpenters The Thing. Starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, and a bunch of other dudes.
Coming hot off the success of Halloween and Escape From New York, director/composer John Carpenter was the ideal candidate to remake the sci fi horror classic The Thing. With Kurt Russell in the lead, the film boasted stunning effects work from Rob Bottin and was an absolute master class in suspense and paranoia — so why did the zeitgeist violently reject it during the summer of 1982? Join Sebastian, Jennifer and Troy in the Antarctic as they thaw this beloved creature feature from the ice to biopsy its unfair initial reception from audiences and critics. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Welcome back people, to yet another fantastic episode of the Talkin' TV podcast!!!! We're about to get started with the next in a long line of events that we've done for the channel, and boy, have we done a lot. In this year, our second season alone, we have moved to Youtube, recapped ranked and reviewed every movie in the MCU, started our TV recap show and collaborated with more guests than we can count. And now, we're about to beging SHOCK-tober, in which we on several of our fellow Youtuber's channels will be watching a horror movie each weekend, and will be wrapping up at the end of the month by watching the classic 1978 "Halloween" on Halloween. And we're kicking this month off with another John Carpenter movie, to me his magnum opus, The Thing. We weren't originally going to discuss this movie this week, but Chris had never seen it, so I figured now would be as good a time as any to discuss it. John Carpenter is an interesting filmmaker, and has become a bit of a cult head in a way, helping to write some absolute classics. But with this film, I would say he achieves something that precious few filmmakers have, in that he crafts a slasher movie with an actually menacing foe, and actually relateable batch of characters and a setting that only raises the tension with each passing minute. In this episode, Chris & Dom discuss how the setting helps to add to the film's overall sense of dread, how the creature actually operates and how that causes the cast of characters to unravel and come apart, and mostly how this film works primarily because all the right steps are taken at every level to make this a good story above all else. It all works in service, to me, to make this the greatest horror film ever made. It's all covered here, only on Talkin' TV!!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support

John Carpenter's The Thing is a creepy enough movie on its own, but add in the context of 2020's pandemic situation and a movie where an undetectable threat infiltrates an isolated science base suddenly gets a lot creepier. Here I geek out for a bit about my vote for "the scariest monster movie ever made," and I draw some parallels between the themes of this film and my beliefs as a Setian.

We talk about the announcement by Anna Prosser, Mica Burton, Chris Perkins, and Jeremy Crawford, which was kinda painful to watch. The northernmost part of the Forgotten Realms where not only do you have to worry about monsters but also the environment. A horror based setting which reminds us of John Carpenters The Thing with new mechanics such as food rationing, snowstorms, and avalanches. This book has 50 new stat blocks for monsters and villains or BBEG. Along with the campaign, Wizards is realizing an adventurers tool kit. We also geek out about an Owlbear. We debate whether or not there are too many products coming out from Wizards of the Coast. Between Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons there are a lot of things coming out in the next four months.
