We also cover a House bill heading to the floor that would allow service members to buy gasoline at military exchanges without paying the federal gas tax — and we ask the only question that matters. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace took a lot of big swings, and many of them still hold up today. The visual effects and technical achievements remain impressive, especially considering when the film was made. George Lucas did a tremendous amount of world-building, expanding the Star Wars universe in ways that would influence countless stories that followed.John Williams delivered some of his best work in the franchise, creating memorable themes that have become iconic parts of Star Wars. The casting is a mixed bag. Liam Neeson is an excellent addition as Qui-Gon Jinn, bringing wisdom and gravitas to the role. Natalie Portman, however, feels surprisingly underwhelming given her talent.The podrace sequence remains a cinematic spectacle and is easily one of the film's highlights. Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine (Sidious) are both compelling villains who leave a lasting impression despite limited screen time.That said, Lucas also introduced plenty of questionable ideas, and that's before even getting to Jar Jar Binks. Still, The Phantom Menace isn't nearly as bad as its reputation suggests. James Tolkan's accented cop is deeply out of place and completely hilarious. News:Mad Cave Studios has partnered with Lucasfilm Publishing to tell new, original stories set in the Star Wars galaxy via graphic novels via the former's Papercutz imprint that's aimed at middle-grade readers. The first two -- Star Wars: Smugglers and Scoundrels -- The Race for Jabba's Bounty and Star Wars: Tales From the Outer Rim -- The Legend of Beggar's Canyon -- are due out Sept. 15 and Oct. 13, respectively. Creative teams on the books are Cavan Scott and Christian Colbert and Greg Pak and Brent Schoonover.Marvel to debut Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge -- Echoes of the Empire #1 (of 5) on April 22. It's by Ethan Sacks, with art by Jethro Morales and Roi Mercado. Also coming in April and May? The comic's by Benjamin Percy and Madibek Musabekov and Luis Guerrero.Issues 2-4 of Dark Horse Comics' The Bad Batch -- Rogue Agents have been pushed back by two weeks. No. 2 is due ouf Feb. 11, No. 3 on March 11 and No. 4 on April 8. No. 1 is still due out Dec. 31, a nice way to end 2025.

Zofia Kielan-Jaworowska was a Polish scientist and the first woman to lead a dinosaur excavation expedition. On her explorations of the Gobi Desert, she discovered many famous animals, including Deinocheirus—a dinosaur that, for decades, was known only by its enormous, terrifying arms & claws. But when we finally found the rest of its body, it turned out to look more like Jar Jar Binks.
