Words by Angela CroudaceAfter nearly a decade, Motion City Soundtrack is heading back to Australia, ready to light up stages with their energetic performances. HEAVY caught up with bassist Matt Taylor and guitarist Josh Cain to discuss the tour, their new music, and the exciting moments ahead."It's been 10 years, we're really ready to come back," Matt grins. "It's great to get some sunshine down there!" The band's excitement is palpable as they prepare to join Yellowcard and Plain White T's for their 20th anniversary celebrations. Josh adds, "We've always had similar energy to Yellowcard. Songs like Ocean Avenue really aren't that far off from something we'd write. It's going to be a great match!"While their last Australian shows were a decade ago, the energy between the bands remains strong. The tour is sure to ignite memories for fans and bring fresh experiences, especially with the band's evolving sound.Despite the excitement, there's no denying the challenges of long-distance travel. "It's brutal," Josh jokes about the gruelling flights from Minnesota to Perth. "But we're going to fly out a day early just to acclimate so Justin's not a zombie on stage!" Justin, the band's vocalist, is known for his all-or-nothing approach, which makes this extra preparation crucial for the band's success. The band is also gearing up to release new music after their hiatus, with fans eagerly anticipating their upcoming record. "Stop Talking was a little different for us, structure-wise, but we've been evolving as songwriters," Matt explains. "We've been taking the time to lean into what makes us unique while also embracing our influences."Josh adds, "It's been great to get this time to grow as writers. The new music really feels like a mix of everything we've done before, but it's fresh. I think fans are going to love it."As for their time off the road? Both Matt and Josh value their downtime, and Josh explains, "These days, I just enjoy existing, walking around cities, and hanging out with the guys."With new music, the return to Australia, and the chance to reunite with fans, Motion City Soundtrack is ready for a memorable and electrifying tour ahead.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Tobin and Christen discuss what makes the NWSL preseason challenging and rewarding. How do they feel about fitness testing early in the morning and team bonding activities like escape rooms? Then, Tobin and Christen give an inside look at their mission to try and define gal culture in women's soccer and women's sports. How does it potentially differ from men's sports culture? Global Product Management Talk is pleased to bring you the next episode of... Product Mastery Now with host Chad McAllister, PhD. Please find future episodes on your podcast player, searching for Product Mastery Now or at https://productmasterynow.com/mastery/. Blog Talk Radio is ending in Jan, 2025. The podcast is all about helping people involved in innovation and managing products become more successful, grow their careers, and STANDOUT from their peers. About the Episode: In my recent conversation with Doug Hall, master of turning chaos into clarity, we explored how product managers and innovation leaders can break free from reactive problem-solving and create more value through proactive innovation. Doug shared that the average manager wastes 3.5 hours daily fixing problems, with 75% of issues stemming from broken systems rather than employee mistakes. Even more concerning, products typically lose 50% of their innovative value during development as unique ideas get compromised to fit existing systems. Doug offered practical solutions through three powerful frameworks that can transform how teams approach innovation and problem-solving. Key Topics: How to define problems effectively using the Yellow Card method, inspired by military Commander's Intent principleCreating solutions through structured “Create Sessions” that leverage stimulus, diversity of thought, and fear reductionSix types of innovation stimulus, including patent mining and wisdom mining from academic sourcesUsing the Deming Cycle (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to systematically reduce risks in product developmentTransforming organizational culture by focusing on system improvement rather than individual blame
Hey there friends! It has been a minute since I have put out a new podcast. Today, I'm speaking with my good friend Mr. Steven Nuefeld. He just put out a phenomenal new solo record titled "Punk". Steven is a part of a lot of really cool bands. He plays guitar and writes songs for Craig's Brother, he tours and plays guitar in The Cloverhearts, he's played in Brookhurst, This Legend with Ben Harper of Yellowcard fame. I became aware of Steven's music in 2003 when I first heard one of his first bands Hey Mike. We were on the same record label briefly and that was Takeover Records. Steven and I discuss a lot in this conversation, and it was so fun to do it. We discuss songwriting, creativity and even AI.

Africa is quickly becoming one of the most dynamic regions for crypto adoption, but the story unfolding there is very different from what many in the West might imagine. Chris Maurice, co-founder and CEO of Yellow Card, joins the show to share how stablecoins are already transforming businesses across the continent, solving real-world problems, and taking on SWIFT. Plus, he explains why USDT is the stablecoin of choice there. The Cynimatics will be joining Bill on Episode 744 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show. Cynimatics is a band from Pittsburgh PA that combines the unlikely genres of 3rd wave ska and late 2000s neon era pop punk. Equal parts “Turn The Radio Off” by Reel Big Fish, and “Nothing Personal” by All Time Low if you will. The band performed regionally in Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas from 2013-2020 opening for some notable pop punk acts of the time such as Yellowcard, Carousel Kings, and Freshman 15 - as well as nationally touring bands on more of the ska side of things like Survay Says, The Supervillains, and Ballyhoo! Always trying to bridge the gap between the two mostly unrelated genres, the band made many connections in the scene and is still releasing music to this day. Their most recent album “Truancy, Anti-Poetry, and Other Stories” produced by Paul Menotiades (Punchline, The Composure) is out now and available on all streaming services
The guys discuss why an unverified “Code 3” will get a hero banned from retail establishments, what the two most essential items to keep fresh in Tupperware are to properly welcome home a soldier from war, and when sleeping with the warden's sister while coaching kids soccer can't prevent a collect call from “My Bad”.
Ever wondered how our favorite music videos and movies from the past still influence us today? Join us as we journey through some iconic pop culture moments, like Yellowcard's unforgettable MTV tribute to "The Breakfast Club" and Charlie Sheen's legendary cameo in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." We reflect on the emotional power of the Foo Fighters' performance with Taylor Hawkins' son, and even entertain the idea of rocking a "November Rain" inspired wedding dress. Of course, we also couldn't help but feel a bit of concert FOMO over missing Adele in Munich. Our tales don't stop with music and movies. We share our recent travels, contrasting visits to historic sites and the introspection they inspire, with lighter stories about tattoos and redemption. Discover the significance of places like the Badlands and the Black Hills, and hear about a unique tattoo parlor owned by a former felon now supporting others on their paths to better lives. Amidst these reflections, we sprinkle in some lighthearted banter about movies, celebrity culture, and even the intriguing possibilities of alien existence with special guest Shane Hawkins, who brings his infectious energy and drumming prowess to the episode. We're also exploring cultural contrasts, like the charmingly slow-paced hospitality found in German beer gardens and how it contrasts with the hustle and bustle of American service. Get a peek into the world of sports fandom, as we reminisce about soccer matches at Soldier Field and marvel at the sheer size of American college stadiums compared to their European counterparts. From extreme cave diving stories to curious political discussions, our conversation meanders through the quirky, the profound, and the just plain fun—proving that sometimes the best journeys are the unexpected ones.

There's a foul on the field in the Association and some wild performances across all the leagues. Stay tuned until the end for some catty conversation.
I've never talked with Stephan Perkins from Third Eye Blind, so I can check him off my ever-growing list of rockers I've interviewed. Right off the bat, we talked about touring, and how much he likes it. He commented on how concerts bring us together "That collective sense of feeling lets us know that we're not alone." You can see him and Third Eye Blind along with Yellowcard and A R I Z O N A on July 7th at Pine Knob Music Theater. We talked about a recent unplugged performance he did at an Emo club. "It was fun, man, it was fun," he said about the impromptu show. Third Eye Blind Teams Up With Detroit's Own Shinola There are also a couple of other things we talked about, one is their collab with Shinola. Stephan talked about how he likes that the watches are Made In America and the local craftsmen who make them. They have a limited edition watch coming out. "It's super cool. It's obviously American-made". He said they'll be visiting the store when they come through, as well as Jack White's Third Man Records. How Did His Life Change In The 90s? His life changed in a huge way in the 90s when Third Eye Blind broke. As I asked him this, he paused for about 5 seconds before answering. He went on to talk about how he lived in an apartment with 6 roommates, one bath and he slept on packing foam. He spoke to the bands he started or joined that fell apart until the band finally broke. After massive tours with U2 and The Rolling Stones, he found himself driving home after two years on the road. "Tears streamed down my face because I realized where I'd gone to, this delineation of points," he said. We wrapped our conversation by talking about how the thrash scene in San Francisco where he's from had any effect on his musical tastes.
Keith sits down with Ryan Key to discuss growing up in Jacksonville, early music influences, leaving college and his hometown to pursue music, joining Yellowcard, the early days of the band, signing with Capitol records and their rise after the release of Ocean Avenue. We also discuss some of the difficulties Ryan and the band have faced over the years, the initial end of Yellowcard in 2017, Ryan's side project Jedha and the scoring work he does for film, becoming a new father, the newly reformed Yellowcard which began after their Riot Fest performance in 2022, Yellowcard's new collaboration LP with Hammock "A Hopeful Sign", what's next for the band and more.
Keith sits down with Marc Byrd to discuss growing up in El Dorado, Arkansas and the difficult circumstances there, reconciling the past, early music influences, Marc's pre-Hammock band Common Children, their history, the end of the band and the formation of Hammock. We also discuss the history of Hammock, their debut LP "Kenotic", the trajectory of their music over the years, accidentally meeting Jónsi of Sigur Rós via Myspace and how that led to the first live Hammock performance, the 2012 double LP "Departure Songs" and some history behind the record, the making of the video for "Breathturn", the "Mysterium" LP written in remembrance of Marc's nephew Clark, the recent Hammock and Yellowcard collaborative LP "A Hopeful Sign", what's next for Hammock and more.
