Clare County Council is encouraging people to transform leftovers into other meals over the Christmas period. Each year, households accumulate an average of 120kg of food waste, amounting to a cost of up to €700 for families. Alongside purchasing what you need, the local authority is advising people to create different recipes to use up excess food and reduce the amount thrown into bins. Environmental Awareness Officer, Karen Foley says making a list of essential items when shopping can also help reduce food waste.

25 Clare schools have been awarded a Green Schools Flag as part of the An Taisce Green Flags Programme. The An Taisce Green Flag Programme is a student led programme that encourages schools to engage in environmentally friendly actions within their environments and local areas. In order for a school to be awarded a Green Schools Flag, the school must follow a seven step programme over the span of two years. Environmental Awareness Officer with Clare County Council, Karen Foley says it takes hard work and dedication for a school to be awarded a Green Schools Flag.

Clare people are being encouraged to cut down on food waste this Christmas. Typically over the Christmas week, €42 million worth of food is thrown out across the country. The Environment Section of Clare County Council is reminding people to prepare the food they need and to freeze what is leftover. Google Classroom Updates: New features in January include the ability to post assignments and announcements to individual students in the class. Also, Teachers are now able to receive email and app notifications on mobile for late work and resubmits. Lastly, Google Classroom can now allow third-party applications to make changes to coursework, such as adding materials.
