A parliamentary inquiry hears from the state's oyster industry about the impacts of the algal bloom, concerns boarding school students heading home for school holidays could be isolated by the social media ban, and an SA-created Facebook page celebrating harvest time reaches 100,000 followers.

Since March 2025, marine life in South Australia's seas has been devastated by an ongoing harmful algal bloom.But algae are a normal and important part of marine ecosystems - so why have they turned killer? To find out, scientists are racing to identifying the microscopic culprits.We speak to Dr Greta Gaiani from the University of Technology, Sydney about her new research. October 22, 2025- The largest algal bloom recorded in the Hudson Valley over the last four decades appeared this summer in the Hudson River, so we explore how to prevent these environmental risks in the future with Shannon Roback, science director for Riverkeeper.

We broadcast live from the National Agritourism Forum in Hahndorf, the State & Federal Governments announce millions more in funding for algae bloom support and recovery, and hundreds of golfers converge for an outback golf tournament in SA to raise funds for the RFDS.

Clare County Council insists algal bloom isn't a concern in East Clare and doesn't pose a threat to its tourism offering. The local authority has deemed Ballycuggeran and Mountshannon safe bathing areas once again after assessments showed no evidence of algal bloom at either location. It comes as planning permission has been granted by An Comisiún Pleanála for the upgrade and enhancement of facilities at Inis Cealtra and Mountshannon Village. Clare County Council Head of Tourism Deirdre O'Shea says the waterways are closely monitored for the presence of algae.

There is somethin' blooming in the Goose Creek Reservoir! And it isn't a good thing!

Concern has been expressed in East Clare over the growing presence of an algal bloom on the shores of Lough Derg. The pea-green scum like build up can cause skin and eye irritation, gastro-intestinal illness and nausea, and can be lethal for animals, especially dogs. The algae was first identified at Ballycuggeran and Mountshannon as these areas are regularly utilised for swimming, however it's understood prevailing winds have carried it up to parts of Meelick Bay. Whitegate Fine Gael Councillor Pat Burke has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan it's vital people stay away from the affected areas.
