When a tweet about withdrawing from the bar exam went viral, Kate Dwyer embraced the attention and interacted with hundreds of people about how to trust yourself and your journey. After working as a paralegal in a plaintiff's attorney and immigration office, Kate decided to attend law school and develop more practical legal skills. So when Kate Dwyer failed the bar exam, then withdrew from the next exam, Kate had to change her career plans. At the time of the recording, Kate Dwyer was a fellow with the Center for Public Interest Advocacy and Collaboration, where she was a project manager and grant writer. Penelope Gazin and Kate Dwyer talk to Natasha and Erin about the moments of difficulty that triggered their decision to become entrepreneurs. They started Witschy, a marketplace for artists, in part as a way to move on from personal struggle. And the site is highly personal for the co-founders—a curated extension of their mutual tastes. Gazin and Dwyer discuss their entrepreneurial philosophy and tell the story of how they built an Etsy competitor that became cash flow positive with hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenue in the first year.

In today's episode, I interview Beth Johnson. Beth shares her two pregnancies and births with us. Beth recalls her first pregnancy as beautiful and uneventful which resulted in a lovely water birth through the midwifery program at Sydney's Royal Hospital for Women. Seven years after having her first daughter, Beth married her partner Jonathan and they conceived their second daughter on their honeymoon. Beth was terribly sick with ‘all day' morning sickness. At 20 weeks when they went to have their routine ultrasound the doctors discovered some abnormalities in Marley's facial structure. During this incredibly stressful time, Beth underwent countless ultrasounds. She also had an amniocentesis test administered which all failed to determine why her baby's lower jaw seemed hard to detect in the scans.  It wasn't until Beth met with the midwife Kate Dwyer (who's a Clinical Midwife Consultant High-Risk Pregnancy, Coordinator Midwifery Group Practice/Maternal-Fetal Medicine), at Sydney's Royal Hospital for Women. Kate quickly diagnosed Beth's baby girl with Piere Robin Sequence.
