Pride and Prejudice audiobook Chapter 50 - Romantic Sleep Story with Stephanie Poppins #prideandprejudice #stephaniepoppins #romance #sleepstory #asmrsleep Sleep stories with Steph These Bedtime Tales guarantee a smooth transition onto a great night's sleep Published by Neworld Books UK Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen was first published in 1813 and is a classic romantic novel set in early 19th-century England. The story revolves around the spirited Elizabeth Bennet and the proud Mr. Darcy, exploring the complexities of love, class, and social expectations. Against the backdrop of the English countryside and the drawing rooms of the landed gentry, Austen skillfully crafts a narrative that satirizes the societal norms of the time while portraying the individual growth and romantic entanglements of its characters. The novel is deeply embedded in the historical context of the Regency era, offering a keen insight into social hierarchy, marriage expectations, and gender roles of the time. Through Elizabeth's sharp wit and Darcy's initial aloofness, Austen presents a nuanced exploration of personal prejudices and the importance of self-awareness in matters of the heart. In this episode, a letter arrives from Mr. Collins. He offers condolences, but spends most of the letter underlining how Lydia's heinous offense will ruin the other sisters' chances on making a good match. In this episode, Lydia and Wickham arrive at Longbourn, and Lydia is giddy over her marriage, mocking her older sisters for failing to get married before she did. Wickham meanwhile, acts as if he did nothing wrong.

Tonight, we shall read the next part to “Pride and Prejudice”, written by Jane Austen. In the last episode, Elizabeth's father stuns her with his congratulations on her upcoming engagement. He reads a letter he received from Mr. Collins in which Elizabeth is cautioned not to go forward with an engagement to Darcy against Lady Catherine's wishes. Mr. Bennet thinks this is simply a ridiculous rumor because he is certain that Elizabeth hates Darcy and that Darcy is indifferent to her. Elizabeth fakes laughter to hide her embarrassment about her father's misjudgment while she privately wonders if her father might be on to something. Could she have overestimated Darcy's interest? A few days later, Darcy and Bingley visit Longbourn. They all go for a walk and Elizabeth and Darcy soon find themselves alone. Elizabeth cannot contain her gratitude any longer for all that Darcy suffered and sacrificed for Lydia. Darcy tells Elizabeth that he did everything for her. Darcy says his feelings for her have not changed since his rejected proposal. Elizabeth confesses that her feelings have significantly changed. Darcy is overjoyed. That is where we will resume our story. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Learn more about your ad choices. Lydia and Wickham visit Longbourn. Lydia is in a new bride state of bliss - oblivious to any trouble she has caused, bragging, and getting anyone she can to call her Mrs. Wickham. Elizabeth observes that Wickham does in fact return affection for Lydia.  When regaling the details of her wedding to Elizabeth, Lydia lets it slip that Darcy was in attendance. She immediately apologizes - saying she was meant to keep that bit a secret. Wanting to know more, Elizabeth writes to her aunt for more information.  Mrs. Gadiner's return letter confirms Lizzie's fear and hope that Mr. Darcy was the one to find the couple and then paid Wickham the large sum of money, but asked Mr. Gardiner to take credit. Darcy claims it's because he feels guilty for not speaking of Wickham's manners sooner, but Mrs. Gardiner thinks there is another reason as well, then makes note of how lovely a man Darcy is. In the gentle rustling of the shrubberies, Elizabeth and Jane Bennet speak to the familiar figure of the housekeeper who comes bearing news; a letter. Our sisters, with minds perpetually encased in worry since Lydia's scandalous elopement, find themselves ushered into an expected turning point of their narrative. The quills on the parchment relay a message of hope; Lydia's whereabouts have been discovered. The light-footed joy of the young women echoes as they rush to share the news, causing a stir - a notable tremble in the quiet routine of Longbourn. And so, the letter is passed from trembling hands to eager ones, lines inked in hope and caution revealing the meticulous negotiations of Mr. Gardiner, Lydia's loving uncle, to secure a future for the young, wayward girl. There are conditions, terms, and sums of money exchanged, each imperative syllable more weighty creating an air of bitter-sweet relief. They are relieved for Lydia's safety and societal standing, bitter over the tarnishing of her innocence. The ensuing euphoria within the Bennet household is palpable, and Lydia's impending marriage is a scandalous feast for the gossip-hungry tongues of Meryton - expectations and judgments painting a vibrant, often unkind, mosaic of their character. Amid the joy, there is also the harsh reflection on frugal living from the family patriarch, Mr. Bennet, a newfound wisdom born from the precipice of societal ruin.Revel in the juxtaposition of Lydia's elopement and the visibly affected relationships within the Bennet Family. Witness the generosity of one family member willing to salvage the happiness of another, the obscure dynamics of a family in crisis and, looming large - Elizabeth's tender thoughts of a love she deems lost.

The chapter opens with a fond yet formal farewell, where Mr. Collins, poised at the precipice of marital bliss with Charlotte, leaves his relations at Longbourn. The Christmas brings with it the pleasure of familial company for Mrs. Bennet, as her brother, Mr. Gardiner, and his wife make their annual visit. Mrs. Gardiner is painted as a woman of elegance, discernment, and amicability, sharing a unique bond with the two eldest Bennet girls, who often found a safe haven from their mother's incessant botherations in her understanding and affection. We discover Mrs. Bennet's growing resentment regarding Elizabeth's refusal to marry Mr. Collins, an event that she believed could have secured the family's future. Meanwhile, Elizabeth and Mrs. Gardiner delve into thoughtful exchanges about the various romantic quandaries abound, including Jane's heartache and the varying degrees of Mr. Bingley's affections for her.The next chapter oscillates between Elizabeth's uncertain sentiments around Mr. Wickham, and her aunt's pragmatic wisdom cautioning her niece against hasty engagements borne out of fleeting passions. However, the chapter concludes with a significant event – the anticipated wedding of Mr. Collins and Charlotte Lucas. The prevailing ripple of mixed feelings – from reluctant acceptance to sincere good wishes for the newlyweds – paints a vivid picture of the societal expectations and pressures of the era. As Jane grapples with the conspicuous indifference of Miss Bingley, Elizabeth dutifully keeps Mrs. Gardiner informed about the shifting shadows of courtship, a correspondence that offers a nuanced perspective on the quintessential themes of love, money, and marriage that lie at the heart of Pride and Prejudice.

In Chapter 21, we find the lingering echoes of Mr. Collins' refused proposal still reverberating around the halls of Longbourn. Elizabeth must nurse the discomforts of unwanted attentions while her mother remains consistently ill-tempered. What follows is a series of heart-laden revelations and the shuffling of social dynamics. The elusive Mr. Wickham makes his appearance yet again, confessing to Elizabeth his self-imposed absence from the Netherfield ball to avoid an unpleasant encounter with Mr. Darcy. Just when the Bennet sisters catch their breath following Wickham's voluntary acknowledgement of his past, a letter arrives from Caroline Bingley herself, foretelling the sudden departure of the Bingley party from Netherfield. This transmission leads to a flurry of emotions among the Bennet household, particularly between the close-knit Elizabeth and Jane. The latter finds herself conflicted between Caroline's carefully crafted insinuations of her brother's fondness for someone else, and Elizabeth's firm belief of Jane being the true object of Mr. Bingley's affections. In Chapter 22, we join the Bennet family dining with the Lucases, embroiled yet again in the insufferable Mr. Collins. In a startling turn of events, Mr. Collins, defying past humiliations, boldly places his heart on the matrimonial card table, gambling it in the hopes of winning the hand of Miss Lucas. Elizabeth, great friend to Charlotte, is left utterly astonished when Miss Lucas not only accepts his offer, but also seems unperturbed by her impending domestic misery.

At last, we are privy to the spectacle of a marriage proposal - an analytic transaction, methodically performed with no semblance of romantic fervour. This unusual proposition, extended by the boorish Mr. Collins to our beloved Elizabeth Bennet, is an exercise in awkward formality rather than a heartfelt expression of love. Of the several reasons Mr. Collins gives that Elizabeth should accept him, exactly none have to do with actually making Elizabeth herself happy. Disquieted yet determined, she faces her suitor with a strength which admirably exhibits her independent spirit even as it secures her refusal. In Chapter 20, the reverberations of Elizabeth's refusal continue to echo through the din of domestic life at Longbourn. The unwelcome prospect of matrimonial risk passed over to Mrs. Bennet, whose zealous pursuit of a beneficial match finds no receptive audience in either her unwilling daughter or her indifferent husband.

We are introduced to one of Austen's most delightfully buffoonish characters - Mr. Collins. Marked by a profound deficiency of sense and an excessive (if unfounded) self-importance, Mr. Collins seeks to forge a reconciliation with the Longbourn family by courting one of the Bennet sisters. His clumsy pursuit of Jane, and the eventual shift in his affections towards Elizabeth, mark yet another entanglement in the web of romantic match-making that Austen so deftly weaves.Throughout this chapter we see Elizabeth's growing distaste for the presumptuous clergyman, even as her cunning mother manoeuvres with skill to trap him in matrimony. Meanwhile, our fiery Lydia's schemes to spend time with the objectionable officers of Meryton provide a diverting backdrop to the main events. We are also introduced to the intriguing character of Mr. Wickham, who skilfully beguiles the company with his allure and an unexpected link to the severe Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth's curiosity is piqued, her fascination heightened - she begins to venture into the muddy waters of Wickham's personal history with the Darcy family which is fraught with discord and resentment. Of course, we must not forget that amidst these romantic entanglements, the ever-tenacious Mrs. Bennet holds fast to her principal agenda - marrying off her darling daughters. One wonders, and with great anticipation, how these connections, these flirtations and these potential matches might manifest in the chapters to come.

Chapters thirteen and fourteen draw us into the Bennet home as unanticipated correspondence introduces a new character and stirs commotion within the family. But before we proceed, allow me to set the scene.Morning finds the Bennet family at breakfast, their daily routines interrupted by the announcement that a certain Mr. Collins, a stranger and a gentleman, would soon pay them a visit. The news is unexpected and leaves the Bennets abuzz with curiosity—as Mr. Bennet anticipates an entertaining encounter, Mrs. Bennet hastens preparations for a suitable dinner, and the daughters indulge fantasies about a potential suitor. However, when Mr. Collins' arrival does not bring a scarlet coat-wearing man, the youngest Bennet girls find him lacking. Mr. Collins, the heir to Longbourn, is thus introduced amidst an amusing scene of familial reactions. His arrival is followed in Chapter fourteen with a dinner, where his overzealous respect for his patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, stand out against Mr. Bennet's calculated humility. With keen observation and sardonic humour, Mr. Bennet pokes our guest with questions that unravel the unfeigned, if not absurd, persona of Mr. Collins, endearing us to another fascinating character in Jane Austen's colourful tapestry. By the chapter's conclusion, this clergyman's airs and his surprising aptness for flattery underpin a kind of ironic charm.

As we delve deeper into the world Jane Austen painted so vividly, we open these chapters with an intimate scene in the drawing-room. Miss Elizabeth Bennet has joined her sister Jane, renowned for her unmatched beauty and sweetness, under the careful watch of their two dear friends. The ladies, revelling in their shared company, engage in spirited conversation with a wit and charm rarely found in their societal circles, becoming increasingly agreeable with each passing moment. However, the tranquillity of this feminine world is slightly disturbed upon the arrival of the gentlemen. A shift in attention occurs, and romantic hopes flutter anew with Miss Bingley's eyes instantly drawn to the elusive Mr. Darcy. Despite her persistent efforts to draw his attention, Darcy remains unfettered, his focus on the enchanting Elizabeth Bennet. The beauty of this complex dance of attraction and repulsion is perfectly captured when later, in a bold move orchestrated by Miss Bingley, Elizabeth embarks on a casual stroll around the room, causing Darcy to lay down his book, gripped by the novelty of the situation. An intriguing shift takes place in the following chapter, where Elizabeth, tired of her stay at Netherfield, insists Jane on borrowing Mr. Bingley's carriage to return home – a proposition that is met with concern and resistance, especially from the smitten Mr. Bingley. Finally, we take leave of this fascinating web of interactions and emotions at Netherfield, returning to the to the comfort of Longbourn, a home that, in the absence of Jane and Elizabeth, had lost some of its spark and vivacity.

Pride and Prejudice is an 1813 novel of manners written by Jane Austen. The novel follows the character development of Elizabeth Bennet, the dynamic protagonist of the book who learns about the repercussions of hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between superficial goodness and actual goodness.Mr. Bennet, owner of the Longbourn estate in Hertfordshire, has five daughters, but his property is entailed and can only be passed to a male heir. His wife also lacks an inheritance, so his family faces becoming poor upon his death. Thus, it is imperative that at least one of the girls marry well to support the others, which is a motivation that drives the plot.Pride and Prejudice has consistently appeared near the top of lists of "most-loved books" among literary scholars and the reading public. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature, with over 20 million copies sold, and has inspired many derivatives in modern literature.[1][2] For more than a century, dramatic adaptations, reprints, unofficial sequels, films, and TV versions of Pride and Prejudice have portrayed the memorable characters and themes of the novel, reaching mass audiences.[3] Can't sleep?
