This perverted mechanic was an absolute nightmare man, terrorizing and killing the women of South Central LA for years. He then took a 14 year murder hiatus before picking back up right where he left off until an unfinished slice of pizza proved to be his undoing. Between the years 1985 and 1988, 7 young Black women in South Central Los Angeles were murdered by an unknown killer. When his 8th victim miraculously survived a harrowing attack, police doubled down their investigation and it appeared as though the killer had stopped his murder spree. But then, in 2002, 13 years after the last attack, DNA evidence found at the murder scene of 15 year old Princess Berthomieux linked her murder to the 7 other murders in the 1980s, and police realized that the unknown killer was out for blood yet again. On April 17, 1974, a seventeen-year-old girl in Stuttgart, Germany, was visiting her boyfriend. After saying her goodbyes, she left for the train station at around 12:30 am. Along the way, a Fiat with three passengers pulled up beside her to ask for directions. These men, who were US Army soldiers, asked the girl for directions and offered her a ride home. The girl thought that the three were trustworthy. Sadly, her instincts were very quickly proved wrong. One of the men sprung a knife on her, and they drove to a remote location to sexually assault her. All three of the men raped her, and one of them took photographs during the attack. Ingrid was brought back to the car and finally dropped off at home. Ingrid, thinking on her feet, pretended that she was interested in the men, coaxing them to give her a phone number so she could get back in touch with them later. One of them fell for it and agreed, giving her his number. This man was 21-year-old Lonnie David Franklin Jr, a US army private cook stationed at the Kelley Barracks in Stuttgart. Ingrid didn't know she was not the only victim of the three men that night or that this man would go on to become one of the most prolific serial killers of all time in America.Join Jen and Cam on the 5th Annual Our True Crime Podcast's 12 Nightmares Before Christmas Day 10 The Grim Sleeper: Lonnie Franklin JrThe photos of the unidentified women suspected to be victims of Franklin are available to view at the following link: https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/grim-sleeper-serial-killer-suspects-secret-photos/9/. South Central Los Angeles in the late 1980s was a terrible place to be. The area was rampant with crime, drugs, and a struggle to survive. Many women turned to sex work to either help feed their addiction or to feed their families. As many of you know, police tended to turn a blind eye when dead sex workers were found, and they had an attitude like the victims were disposable. Because of this attitude, serial killers often made South Central L.A. their hunting grounds, and Lonnie Franklin, Jr. was one of them. Nicknamed "The Grim Sleeper" due to the extended supposed break he took in killing--Lonnie's true victim count will never be known.Join us on Facebook and IG: @HARDCORETRUECRIMEWeb: www.crimesandconsequences.com-------->Get ad-free early releases of each episode, plus over 170 exclusive Members Only episodes by going to Patreon.com/tntcrimes or joining our Apple Channel on the Apple Podcast App.Sources:1) Murderpedia2) Documentary: Tales of a Grim Sleeper3: Movie: The Grim Sleeper—The Mind of a Monster4) TV Show: World's Most Evil Killers (Season 5, Episode 1: Lonnie Franklin)5) CNN--https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/30/us/grim-sleeper-dies-death-row6) Rolling Stone--https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/grim-sleeper-serial-killer-everything-you-need-to-know-252246/7) LA Times--https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-03-29/grim-sleeper-serial-killer-lonnie-franklin-dies-death-row-san-quentin8) All That is Interesting--https://allthatsinteresting.com/grim-sleeper9) Youtube: The Case of Lonnie David Franklin: The Grim Sleeper (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNzPvoZzSq8&t=409s) 10) Youtube: The Infamous Case of Lonnie Franklin Jr. (JCS Inspired) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcf_9Nfva_E) 11) LAPD Online--https://www.lapdonline.org/newsroom/serial-murder-case-update-grim-sleeper-responsible-for-12-victims-between-1985-and-2007/12) LA Times--https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1987-12-03-me-26306-story.html13) History Daily--https://historydaily.org/grim-sleeper-facts-stories-trivia/614) Oxygen--https://www.oxygen.com/mark-of-a-serial-killer/crime-news/who-was-grim-sleeper-serial-killer-lonnie-franklin

Lonnie David Franklin Jr., An American serial killer. Also, known as the South Side Slayer, preyed on the women of Los Angeles, California from 1985 to 2007. Franklin was also given the name, Grim Sleeper by L.A. Weekly reporter, Christine Pelisek. She created this name for him because of the 14 yr. break that occurred between the murders. Franklin was a husband, father and friend too many in his community. All while keeping a deadly secret. Franklin was living a double life. He was a family man by day and murderer by night. On July 5, 2010, Detectives would get the big break, they had been needing for almost 30 years. A DNA match would get Lonnie Franklin Jr. convicted for killing at least 10 women and 1 attempt murder sentencing him to death row.
Co-Hosts Matt Ralston and William Noguera discuss the exploits of Lonnie Franklin Jr, who was dubbed "The Grim Sleeper" because he supposedly took a long break from committing serial murders. This turned out to not be accurate, but nobody seemed to notice. Franklin was a perverse, dangerous man. Noguera served time with him on San Quentin Prison's Death Row and shares insights based on his observing of this sallow pig's behaviors.

Lonnie Franklin Jr. murdered and raped women and teenage girls over the span of 17 years between 1985-2002 (roughly). During this time, it appears that he took a 14 year gap of criminal activity between 1988-2002, which earned him the title Grim Sleeper. An arrest was not made for around 31 years after the original killing and Lonnie died before even spending a full 4 years in jail for his conviction. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

5 Most Terrifying & Chilling Murderers Ever What's most unsettling about serial killers isn’t that they prey on the innocent. But that they strike in a cold and calculated manner and have no remorse for any of their actions. These are the 5 Most Terrifying and Chilling Murderers Ever. 5. Grim Sleeper Known as the "Grim Sleeper," Lonnie Franklin Jr. grew up in South Central LA. He was married once with two children and described by his neighbors as a quiet, friendly man. Nobody ever pegged him to be a serial killer because he didn't fit the profile. About 80% of serial killers are white males between 20-30 years old. Lonnie Franklin is a black male who committed his first known crime at 32 years old. He also chose his victims very carefully, hunting black women in the sex trade – people the public and law enforcement often overlooked. 4. Southern Pacific Railroad Axeman In 1911-1912, the axe was an item found in nearly every home, so it’s no surprise that it became a weapon for a serial murderer as well. The first reported axe killing was on January 1911 in Rayne, Louisiana. The victims were a mother and her 3-year old child; both were hacked to death while they silently slept in their beds. By February, the killer struck again,10 miles away in Crowley where 3 people from the Byers family were killed. Less then two weeks later four people from the Andres family were mutilated in LaFayette. Every single one of the victims was murdered in their sleep using an axe. 3. The Stoneman The title of The Stoneman first appeared in the English-language print media of Calcutta. It was used as a moniker for a serial killer who had a penchant for smashing his victims' skulls using a stone while they slept. The murders concentrated on two major areas in India: Bombay and Calcutta. Although no one knows for sure whether it's the same killer, the similarities in the crimes make it highly likely. In 1985, the first hints of the Stoneman appeared and continued for two years. The killer would carefully choose his victims, picking those who were sleeping alone in desolate and dimly lit areas. 2. Javed Mughal Only $2.40 or 120 rupees, that was the amount Javed Mughal proclaimed as the amount of money he spent in disposing one child. On December 1999, 45-year old, he wrote a letter to a local pakastani newspaper confessing he had murdered 100 boys, mostly beggars and runaways that were between the ages of 6 to 16. He would lure the children and gain their confidence before drugging and then raping them. Afterwards, they would be mutilated, their bodies cut into pieces before being placed inside acid vats to dissolve. After they were fully liquefied he would dump them into the sewer and later in the Ravi River. 1. Ted Bundy One of the most notorious serial killers of the 20th century, it's no surprise Ted Bundy is top of this list. His good looks and charm made it easy for him to win over his victims' trust, resulting in over 30 murdered women but many believe the numbers could be higher. Theodore Bundy was born in Burlington Vermont on November 24, 1946 to a young unwed mother, named Louise. Out of embarrassment, his grandparents decided to legally adopt him, passing themselves as his parents and telling him that his mother was his sister. so those were the 5 Most Terrifying & Chilling Murderers Ever No one knows for sure what motivated these killers to brutally torture, mutilate and kill without remorse but it remains a fact their methods and tactics are some of the most disturbing anyone will ever see.
Lonnie Franklin Jr. offered rides to Los Angeles women, only to kill them, photograph them, and leave their bodies to be found like trash on the street. “The Grim Sleeper” had a deep-seated need to degrade women, ending at least ten lives before new breaks in forensic technology helped the police to catch him. Greg and Vanessa discuss Franklin’s change in MO, his police interrogation, and the remaining task of identifying the unknown women in his Polaroids. Join us after the episode for an exclusive interview with Hart Hanson, creator of the TV series BONES. We’ll talk about his new crime novel, The Driver.
He targeted and killed multiple women in the 1980’s; then mysteriously disappeared. Fourteen years later, he started killing again. Why would he stop? And why, after so long, would he come back? Greg and Vanessa examine what made “The Grim Sleeper” different from other serial killers operating in the area at the same time, as well as the psychology behind his “trophies.”
Lonnie Franklin, Jr. lived a double life as a charming family man who helped his neighbors with their cars then would sneak around Los Angeles to sexually assault and murder women. He began his spree in the 1980's but after realizing one of his victims survived, he decided to lay low and his next confirmed murder wouldn't happen until 2001. He was dubbed the Grim Sleeper because of his supposed 14-year hiatus. This monster would terrorize the city of Los Angeles for almost 30 years. TW: rape, murder, death of a child
