The Our True Crime Podcast is an absolute gem in the world of true crime podcasts. As someone who has always struggled to focus on podcasts, this show has completely changed my perspective. I discovered it during a bout of insomnia and now find myself listening to their episodes every night as part of my self-care routine. This podcast has truly become like family to me, providing comfort and stress relief during difficult times.
One of the best aspects of The Our True Crime Podcast is the genuine passion and fascination that both hosts, Cam and Jen, have for true crime. It's clear that they deeply care about sharing these stories with their listeners and they go above and beyond to provide well-researched and detailed accounts of each case. Their humor adds a delightful touch to the show, making it engaging and enjoyable to listen to. Additionally, I appreciate the fact that they prioritize diving right into the crime story before any announcements, allowing listeners to be immediately immersed in the content.
Another great aspect of this podcast is the hosts' likability and relatability. Cam and Jen's banter feels like sitting down with friends and having a conversation. They are down-to-earth, compassionate, and inject their own personal touches throughout each episode without detracting from the true crime narrative. Furthermore, their Midwest accents are charming and easy on the ears for international listeners like myself.
As for any potential downsides of The Our True Crime Podcast, it's hard to pinpoint any major flaws. However, some may argue that occasional use of slang or repetitive phrases like "whatever" can be off-putting or distracting. Nevertheless, I find these quirks endearing rather than problematic.
In conclusion, The Our True Crime Podcast is an exceptional true crime podcast that deserves all the praise it receives. With passionate hosts who strike a perfect balance between informative storytelling and lighthearted banter, this show stands out among others in its genre. It has become an essential part of my daily routine, providing entertainment and a sense of connection. I cannot recommend The Our True Crime Podcast enough to fellow true crime enthusiasts.

It all began in November 1961, when Arthur Duperrault, a 40-year-old optometrist from Green Bay, Wisconsin, finally set out to give his family the adventure he had been dreaming of for years. Arthur had built a thriving practice specializing in contact lenses, a career that afforded him comfort and stability. But he wanted more than the routines of Midwestern life. What he craved was experience, something unforgettable for himself, for his wife Jean, and for their children: 14-year-old Brian, 11-year-old Terry Jo, and little René, just 7 years old. For years, Arthur had talked about escaping the bitter Wisconsin winters, of trading frost for sunlight and snow for turquoise waters. The Bahamas, in particular, held a special place in his memory. He had promised himself then that he would one day return with the family he dreamed of building. That promise became a plan, and over time, a quiet obsession. He saved steadily until, at last, the moment arrived. What was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime would end in murder, and more than a few questions, and only one person would be left to tell the tale. On the 12th Nightmare Before Christmas… The Genesee River flows peacefully through Rochester today, but it still holds a dark memory from the late 1980s. Back then, it became the hunting ground of Arthur Shawcross. He had already served time for murder but was let out early, even though experts warned he was still dangerous. Soon after he arrived, a terrifying pattern emerged: people disappeared near the waterfront, only to be found later along the riverbanks, each death showing the work of a disturbed mind. Join Cam and Jen as they discuss “Dark Waters: Arthur Shawcross.” Well, folks, we've finally made it to the end of our 8th Annual 12 Nightmares Before Christmas and the end of 2025. We're exhausted and definitely need therapy, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for spending another year with us. We've talked about more murders than any “normal” human should, and you're still here, clicking play like champions. We appreciate every one of you who listens week after week. You are what keeps us going. We'll be back on January 14th, 2026, with more true crime cases. Until then, lock your doors, and keep passing those open windows! Have a safe and spectacular New Year. On the 11th Nightmare Before Christmas... On a sunny November morning in 1971, best friends Debbie Ackerman and Maria Johnson, both just 15, set out for a day of surfing near Galveston, Texas. The two girls were inseparable—bonded by their shared love of the beach, the waves, and the promise of youth. Maria, a newcomer to Galveston, had already endured a turbulent childhood. After her parents split, she bounced between homes and schools before settling into Ball High School. Shy but friendly, she quickly found her place. She loved water skiing, dated a local ski jumper, and spent her weekends at the beach. Debbie, by contrast, was a lifelong islander, what locals called a BOI (“born on the island”). With one brown eye and one blue-green eye, she stood out immediately. She was bold, competitive, and passionate about water sports, often making the local news for her water skiing competitions. Surfing was her favorite pastime, and her friends remembered her as fun, magnetic, and endlessly outgoing. That Sunday, November 14, they planned a short trip to Houston, just over an hour's drive away, to spend the day exploring. Since neither girl had a car, they decided to hitchhike, a common and almost carefree practice in the early 1970s. Witnesses later reported seeing them outside a Baskin-Robbins near Stewart Beach, laughing and chatting as they bought ice cream. A white van pulled up to the curb. The driver asked where they were headed. “Houston,” one of the girls said. It was his route, he told them. They climbed in. They were never seen alive again. On the 10th Nightmare Before Christmas… Palm Sunday is usually a day of hope and reflection, but in 1984, East New York faced a horror it would never forget. Families were at home, children played, and neighbors went about their day, but inside 1080 Liberty Avenue, everything changed. Ten lives were lost in a single, shocking act of violence. The house was ordinary, the people inside were ordinary, yet by the end of the day, the community would never be the same. On the 9th Nightmare Before Christmas... On the afternoon of March 12, 2004, a quiet Fresno street exploded with panic. Twenty-five-year-old Sofina Solorio stood outside the boarded-up home where she'd once lived, screaming for Marcus Wesson to release her children. Her cousin, Ruby Ortiz, shouted beside her. Both women had grown up under Wesson's rule. Both had borne him children. Now they wanted them back. Relatives crowded the curb, furious and ready to force their way in. Inside, Wesson's family gathered at the windows, shouting back with a strange, fevered devotion. “Judas! Judas!” “Bow down to your master!” When Fresno police arrived, the chaos only deepened. At the center stood Marcus Wesson, fifty-seven, nearly 300 pounds, his graying dreadlocks hanging to his knees. He was eerily calm, answering questions in a soft, measured voice. Officers believed they were dealing with a tense custody dispute. Then Wesson asked for one thing: to say goodbye to the children. He closed the door behind him. On the 7th Nightmare Before Christmas... Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is the kind of place that sells serenity. Nestled in the lush green folds of the state's northern panhandle, its glittering lakes and cozy resorts draw tourists each summer, while locals call it the Lake City. It's a place where doors stay unlocked, where evenings hum with crickets, and where danger feels far away. Eight miles east of town, near the Wolf Lodge campground, a small, weathered house sat back from the road—nearly hidden by the trees. In 2005, it was home to 37-year-old Mark McKenzie, his girlfriend, 40-year-old Brenda Groene, and Brenda's three children: 13-year-old Slade, 9-year-old Dylan, and 8-year-old Shasta. The family lived their days filled with school, work, and play. Their back door was almost always unlocked. But on the night of May 15, 2005, that small gesture of safety and comfort would be the very thing that destroyed them. That night, a man named Joseph Edward Duncan, 42, slipped through the open back door. He was dressed in dark clothing, wearing black leather gloves, and carrying a shotgun. Along with the gun, he brought duct tape, zip ties, and a claw hammer. The family was asleep. Duncan knew they would be. He had been watching them for days. He'd first noticed Dylan and Shasta playing outside in their swimsuits—laughing, carefree, the way children should be. Something in his twisted mind fixated on that moment. In the quiet town of Coeur d'Alene, a single open door had invited a nightmare that would leave five lives shattered—and shadows that would never lift. On the 5th Nightmare Before Christmas... In the summer of 2005, a North Carolina couple slipped away to their Oak Island beach house for a quiet weekend—only to find a stranger renovating their living room. Power tools hummed, drywall dust floated in the air, and the man in work boots calmly insisted the property was his. He even produced a deed, complete with signatures and a tidy paper trail. According to the stranger, he had bought the home from a North Carolina doctor, Dr. William Holbert, for the unbelievable price of $200,000, barely half its value. Holbert, he claimed, was liquidating his sick grandmother's home in a hurry. But the story cracked quickly. Holbert and his partner, Laura Reese, had already vanished, and the cash from the fraudulent sale had funded their next home in Louisa, Kentucky. By the time investigators arrived, the couple was gone without a trace. It was far from over because wherever Holbert went next, terror followed—and the bodies stacked quietly behind him. On the 4th Nightmare Before Christmas… On a quiet Florida night, a patrolman sees two cars pulled over. Inside one, a clean-cut man and a woman who whispers, "I'm okay." On the 3rd Nightmare Before Christmas... On the sweltering evening of July 14, 1982, a call came into the Waco Police Department that would shatter the community's sense of safety. Two teenage boys, fishing near the shores of Lake Waco at Speegleville Park, had stumbled across a scene no one could have imagined. Beneath a tree lay a teenage boy. His hands were bound tightly behind his back, a gag shoved into his mouth, sunglasses still shielding his eyes. His chest had been punctured repeatedly. Moments later, officers discovered two more bodies scattered across the park. In that moment, Lake Waco would forever be etched in the memory of a town that had lost its innocence. On a quiet summer morning in Chester, a nurse in a tracksuit opened her front door to find detectives waiting. Within minutes, Lucy Letby, the nurse parents trusted with their most fragile infants, was led away in handcuffs. To neighbors, she was the polite young woman who waved from her driveway. To friends, she was giving and kind, the kind of girl who carried spare tampons in her bag in case someone might be in need But inside the Countess of Chester Hospital, prosecutors said, she had become something far darker: a “malevolent presence” who turned lifesaving equipment into murder weapons, leaving a trail of dead and critically injured newborns in her wake And as she climbed into the backseat, doubt lingered as to whether they had captured a killer, or condemned an innocent woman to the role of one. It all started on March 22, 1990, when 18-year-old Robin Mihan went missing from Cherokee Street in South St. Louis. Although Robin was only eighteen, she already had two children and was battling a drug addiction. To feed her kids and her habit she had begun working as a sex worker along Cherokee Street. On this particular night, Mihan got into a car with a stranger and would never be seen alive again. Four days later, her body was found inside two mattresses that had been tied around her and dumped along State Highway E. Then, months later, another discovery. Just after 9 a.m. on October 5, 1990, two men were cleaning up outside an apartment building near Page Avenue in St. Louis County when one of them noticed a plastic trash can sitting in the grass. A trash bag was pulled tightly over the top, secured with a wire. As they got closer, the smell hit them — the unmistakable smell of death. Thinking it was a dead animal, one of the men unwound the wire. But it wasn't an animal. Inside the trash can was the body of a woman. Two women. Two brutal murders. Two bodies were discarded in places where someone hoped they wouldn't be found. And someone in St. Louis was responsible. In the early 1970s, New York City was buzzing with a new, single lifestyle. But in January 1973, that freedom took a dark turn. The brutal murder of a beloved young schoolteacher named Roseann Quinn shocked everyone and made national headlines. With the recent news regarding actress Diane Keaton, who starred in the controversial film adaptation, we felt now was the time to revisit the true story that inspired it all. The sensational details of the crime were everywhere, but what you might not realize is that this case directly inspired the famous and often controversial book and movie, Looking for Mr. Goodbar. That story became a significant part of pop culture and changed the way people talked about dating and danger for years afterward. This week, Jen and Cam delve beyond the book, movie, and the rumors to explore the true story of Roseann Quinn, the infamous case that terrified a generation, and the real events behind the fictional scandal. Our good friends, Mike and JT from Brew Crime, join us for November's unsolved crossover. Today, JT tells us about a terrifying six-year murder spree (1990-1996) targeted at least thirteen vulnerable elderly women in Richmond's West End, creating widespread panic. The case was officially pinned on one killer, but the narrative quickly fell apart: the series was split by a two-year hiatus and featured a pronounced shift from the stabbing homicides of six Black women to the homicides of seven White women. The case was hastily "closed" for the Phase II victims through the highly disputed confession of a diagnosed schizophrenic with zero forensic links to the crime scenes, leaving the initial wave of brutal stabbings completely unresolved. The official resolution is rooted in systemic failure and alleged racial bias, ensuring the actual killer, or killers, walked free. Source for the Episode Associated Press. (1996, April 25). On a cold fall morning in October 1978, near Rock Rapids, Iowa, a crew burying telephone cables made the grim discovery of a young woman's body hidden in an overgrown ditch off Highway 182. With no identification found at the scene, the woman was immediately classified as a Jane Doe. For 27 years, Jane Doe lay beneath a gravestone reading "Unknown Female" before she finally reclaimed her name: Wilma June Nissen. Now, investigators and Wilma's daughter, Krissi, a daughter she never met, are trying to piece together Wilma's final years and finally solve her brutal murder. It was a warm Wednesday morning in Sarasota, Florida, on June 12, 1991, when 36-year-old Jackie Galloway was supposed to meet a friend for lunch. The friend arrived at her home expecting an easy midday catch-up. Instead, the front door was unlocked, Galloway's purse was sitting on the couch, and an unsettling silence filled the house. Jackie was gone. By the next afternoon, ten miles from downtown Sarasota, a passerby discovered a body dumped in a vacant lot, wrapped tightly in a beige bedsheet. It was Jackie. Her body was already decomposing under the relentless Florida sun. A noose was still looped around her neck. Her wrists bore the angry marks of bindings, and every one of her artificial nails had been torn away, illustrating the fight that Jackie had put up to try to escape. It should have been a time of celebration. Melissa Lamesch, a 27-year-old EMT, was just two days away from giving birth to her baby boy. Instead, her home in Mt. Morris, Illinois, was engulfed in flames on Thanksgiving Eve. First responders treated the scene as a terrible accident, but the medical examiner soon delivered a shock: Melissa had died before the fire even began. That truth exposed a dark motive, one rooted in a secret relationship and the imminent arrival of a child the father did not want. Join Jen and Cam as they discuss "The Deadline: Melissa Lamesch." In the summer of 2016, Gaylin Rose had moved her 4 little girls to Flora, a small town of just over 2,000 residents, seeking a fresh start. The two-story duplex cost $500 a month to rent, and by autumn, they were settling into a routine. Rose had secured a job at a nearby gas station, while her daughters threw themselves into school, cheerleading, and making new friends. On the night of November 20, Rose tucked her daughters into their bunkbeds upstairs. Rose retired to her bedroom on the lower floor. At 3:00 a.m., silence gave way to chaos. Thick plumes of smoke curled up over East Columbia Street. By the time fire trucks left for the scene, a three-story apartment building at 103 East Columbia was already engulfed in flames. The four sisters — Kionnie Welch, 5; Kerriele McDonald, 7; Keyara Phillips, 9; and Keyana Davis, 11 would not survive. UPDATE: When we first covered Robert Eugene Brashers back in April 2025, we never imagined he'd be tied to one of Texas's most infamous crimes: the 1991 Austin Yogurt Shop Murders. Now, advanced DNA testing has confirmed his link to the horrific killings that haunted Austin for more than three decades. On December 6, 1991, four teenage girls, Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers, were found bound, gagged, and shot inside an I Can't Believe It's Yogurt! shop that had been set on fire. The case became one of Texas's deepest mysteries, spawning thousands of leads, false confessions, and the wrongful convictions of two young men later cleared by DNA evidence. Now stay tuned for episode 305: “Genetic Justice: Unmasking Robert Brashers.” From the original airdate: For years, Robert Brashers had managed to evade justice, slipping through the cracks repeatedly. But on January 13, 1999, his luck finally ran out in a modest motel room in Kennett, Missouri. What began as a routine police search quickly escalated into a tense, life-or-death standoff that would forever change the lives of those involved. Who was Robert Brashers? A man who his wife and children loved. What could have driven him to such a tragic end? The entire truth would remain hidden for years, with whispers suggesting that there were more victims out there. The Knotek residence appeared unremarkable to outsiders. A modest home, needing a bit of work from years of rain, rested quietly on a tree-lined street. To neighbors, it was just another house, just another family. Behind its doors, however, was a living nightmare—meticulously orchestrated by Michelle Knotek, with the complicity of her husband, David. Outwardly, Michelle seemed maternal, warm, and inviting. In truth, her hospitality was a trap. At first, life with the Knoteks appeared normal, but the facade didn't last long. Careful! This one is disturbing. In the early 2000s, women in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, lived in fear. Two different predators were stalking the city, leaving a trail of terror and death. While authorities were hunting for one killer, another, even more depraved murderer was operating completely under the radar. For ten years, Sean Vincent Gillis lived a chilling double life, murdering at least eight women, and the details of his crimes are beyond deranged. Even other serial killers are disturbed by him. He wasn't some dark, shadowy figure who stood out from the crowd. To all who knew him, he was just an ordinary guy, not the monster that was hiding in plain sight. Join Jen and Cam as they talk about "The Butcher of Baton Rouge: Sean Vincent Gillis." Be sure to stay and listen to the promo for Ghost Bites. The internet often feels like a harmless escape. A place where Facebook shows you picture-perfect families, where influencers promise miracles in a bottle, where friendships are born from nothing more than a shared “like.” But behind the glow of the monitor, reality can warp into something darker, something far more dangerous than anyone imagines. In one quiet town, a single online connection spiraled into lies, obsession, and betrayal, trapping people in a digital web they never saw coming until it was too late. Because online, anyone can be anything. And for one young man, that illusion would prove deadly. Altona, Manitoba, is a small town sitting in the middle of a windswept prairie about a fifteen-minute drive north of North Dakota. In the winter, the days are short, the snow falls frequently, and there's very little to do except play hockey or other indoor activities. The town was founded by Mennonites, who, like the Amish, are known for their pacifist and peaceful ways. However, that did not mean the town was exempt from its fair share of tragedies. However, nothing would stun the Altona residents more than what happened on a November night in 1990. What started as a typical evening for two teenage boys ended in a horrific home invasion that left one dead and the other critically injured. The attack was violent and merciless, shaking the entire community to its core. Join Jen and Cam as they discuss "Out of the Fire: Murder in Altona." Due to circumstances, we were unable to produce an episode this week, so we thought it was a perfect time to revisit an episode that originally aired on Patreon. Join us! The Petit family lived in an idyllic, quiet, tree-lined neighborhood of Cheshire, Connecticut. Dr. William Petit, a respected endocrinologist, his wife Jennifer, a beloved nurse, and their two daughters—17-year-old Hayley, a bright and driven high school senior, and 11-year-old Michaela, a sweet and creative child—made their home at 300 Sorghum Mill Drive. By all accounts, the Petits were a picture of suburban success. But on the evening of July 22, 2007, an unassuming trip to the local Stop & Shop set in motion a chain of events that would shatter their world. It was the evening of July 6, 2007, when the call came in to the Russell County Sheriff's Department. A truck driver had spotted what he believed to be a body lying along a lonely stretch of road outside Phenix City, Alabama. At first, the deputies dismissed it as unlikely. This was a tight-knit community, a place where neighbors grew up together and tragedies of that magnitude felt unthinkable. But on that humid Southern night, something unspeakable had happened. Lieutenant Heath Taylor and Sergeant Grover Goodrich were dispatched to the scene. The road was rural, unlit, and shrouded in silence, save for the hum of insects. Their flashlights cut through the dark landing on what could no longer be mistaken: the body of a young woman, late teens or early twenties, crumpled in the gravel. Who would kill this young woman and why? Both answers would be shocking. Join Cam and Jen of Our True Crime Podcast as we discuss ‘The Killer Next to Her: Stephanie ‘Shea' Graham.' ***Make sure to listen for a special announcement about an informational meeting we will be having on August 19 to discuss our trip to Italy. Go to ourtruecrimepodcast.com to register for the zoom meeting.*** Thirteen-year-old Danny Joe Eberle didn't want to get up that morning. It was far too early, and like any kid his age, he just wanted to stay curled beneath the covers. But duty called—just as it had every morning before. It was 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, 1983, when Danny Joe dragged himself out of bed, dressed quietly, and slipped out the door. Alongside his older brother, he delivered newspapers. He pedaled into the gray morning light and made his usual stop at the corner convenience store to pick up the day's bundle of Omaha World-Herald newspapers. Like he always did, Danny sat in the parking lot, rolling each newspaper tightly and stuffing it into his canvas bag. What Danny Joe didn't know was that someone was watching. Danny Joe made three stops, three familiar porches in a neighborhood he knew like the back of his hand. And then, the deliveries stopped. So did Danny Joe. How hard is it to disappear after killing someone? But what if the victims were your own family? The idea of vanishing after such a crime seems unfathomable—yet some manage it, at least for a while. Few cases illustrate this more chillingly than those of John List and Robert Fisher, two men accused of murdering their families and slipping into the shadows. So it has happened before and will undoubtedly happen again, which takes us to today's case. It was a quiet Monday morning in Washington, D.C., on March 1, 1976, when William Bradford Bishop Jr.—a rising foreign service officer at the State Department—received the news that would, according to investigators, set a horrific plan in motion. He'd been passed over for a promotion. By mid-afternoon, Bishop told his secretary he was feeling unwell. Colleagues noted that he seemed agitated. 26-year-old Emory Futo Jr., his father's namesake, had a childhood that was anything but normal, but he was now a grown man determined to change for the better. To those on the outside, the Futos were settling into a picture-perfect life—a new stucco home on a quiet cul-de-sac in sunny California, a far cry from his upbringing in St. Louis, Missouri. Neighbors later told police the couple was quiet, well-liked, and unremarkable. And in 1990, Joshua arrived—their firstborn. From the outside, it was the picture of the American dream but every family has secrets. And the Futo family had many. In the 1970s, Nashville appeared to be a picture of safety, with quiet streets and friendly neighbors. It seemed the kind of place where nothing truly bad was supposed to happen. But within the first few months of 1975, two girls would be found murdered. First twenty-year-old Sally Des Prez, a college Freshman was raped and killed in her own apartment. Then, a nine-year-old Girl Scout, Marcia Trimble, vanished while delivering Girl Scout Cookies. Her tiny body would be found later in a neighbor's shed. Police set their sights on a suspect and wouldn't give up on their pursuit, but it took decades to bring the murderer to justice. The neighborhood of St. Louis Hills was quiet that evening in November 1980. The leaves were turning as winter was making its way in. John Dooling was suddenly jolted awake by a loud sound. Was it A scream? Or had he imagined it? He immediately thought of his 18-year-old daughter, Ellen. Ellen had gone on a date that night. She should have been home by now. John threw off the covers and moved to the window, peeling back the curtain. That's when he saw a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass idling in front of the house. The car wasn't moving. He grabbed his robe and stepped outside. Something was wrong. It was Ellen; she was slumped over in the car.John yanked the door open when he saw her face. He screamed so loudly that it would surely wake the neighbors in the 6200 block of Walsh Street. Ellen Dooling and her date, 20-year-old Gary Consolino, never left the car alive. They had been shot—executed—right there in front of her parents' home. There were no signs of a struggle. No shattered glass. There are no desperate claw marks on the door handles. The car hadn't been ransacked. Their wallets and jewelry remained untouched. This crime should have been solved so easily, but it was not.Justice should have brought at least some comfort to both of their families, but it did not.Join Jen and Cam on this episode of Our True Crime Podcast entitled ‘Horror in St. Louis Hills: Ellen Dooling and Gary Consolino.'Listener discretion by our bestie @octoberpodVHSMusic is by our other bestie who is also our editor @theinkypawprintSources:https://www.spreaker.com/episode/218-blame-it-on-the-game-mary-towey--55288137https://muckrack.com/bob-cyphers/articleshttps://www.firstalert4.com/video/2022/01/21/someone-knows-something-gary-consolino-ellen-dooling-cold-case-that-haunts-st-louis/https://www.newspapers.com/article/31437268/the-murders-of-ellen-jean-dooling-and/https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/phcd5m/41_years_later_the_murders_of_gary_consolino_and/https://twitter.com/kmov/status/1432374841693425667https://www.firstalert4.com/2022/01/21/horror-st-louis-hills-gary-consolino-ellen-dooling-murders-that-shook-city/https://www.firstalert4.com/news/st-louis-unsolved/https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/mother-of-murder-victim-makes-plea-for-help-in-cold-case/63-368399891https://www.newspapers.com/article/30024498/ellen_dooling_and_gary_consolino/

It was a brisk autumn night in October 1977 when two best friends, Christine Eadie and Helen Scott, stepped into Edinburgh's World's End Pub for what should have been a carefree night of drinks and laughter. Just seventeen years old, they were out to blow off steam, pub-hop, and soak in the city's energy. But as the night drew to a close, a chance encounter changed everything. On their way out, the girls struck up a casual conversation with two men—a chat that lasted no more than 25 minutes. Moments later, Christine and Helen disappeared into the night. They were never seen alive again. That ordinary pub, on that ordinary night, would be etched into Scotland's darkest history—The World's End Pub forever linked to their final steps. Like Whitechapel in the time of Jack the Ripper, or the Ford Theatre on the night Lincoln fell, The World's End would become a place where tragedy and terror collide. What happened next would haunt a nation—and ignite one of Scotland's most chilling manhunts.Join Jen and Cam on this episode entitled 'Double Jeopardy at the World's End: Scotland's Angus Sinclair."Listener discretion is by @octoberpodVHSResearched and written by Lauretta Allen, as well as myself.Executive Producers @theinkypawprintSources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_End_Murdershttps://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-47524945 https://youtu.be/dNMTHwOrQK0?si=DbcL4bufbpxU60UShttps://youtu.be/5WcrDOim1Rw?si=C7jsagwsgwOKHwd0https://youtu.be/EoHghw36gpk?si=0n6DhReS29po3ZLKhttps://murderpedia.org/male.S/s/sinclair-angus.htmhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/1047423638/?match=1&clipping_id=172210762https://www.newspapers.com/image/1047422373/match=1&terms=%22Catherine%20Reehillhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/1047422301/?match=1&clipping_id=172210941https://www.newspapers.com/image/1047424653/?match=1&clipping_id=172211034https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048695564/?match=1&clipping_id=172211313https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048838948/?match=1&clipping_id=172211394https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048780956/?match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048767078/?match=1&clipping_id=172211704https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048724298/?match=1&clipping_id=172211867https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048736127/?match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048732134/?match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048647935/?match=1&clipping_id=172212169https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048590172/?match=1&clipping_id=172212245https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048722237/?match=1&clipping_id=172212760https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048793994/?match=1&clipping_id=172212787https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048792299/?match=1&clipping_id=172212838https://www.newspapers.com/image/1048651639/?match=1&c

On June 7, 1994, a 13-year-old Ann-Marie Clifford, a student at Collingwood College in Camberley, Surrey, was jumped. The attack was swift, unprovoked, and deeply disturbing. In the school's bathroom, the student was stabbed in the back with a knife. The force of the blow punctured the lung. The attack was impulsive. In 1993, MTV aired a music video for the song “Runaway Train” by Soul Asylum. In the video, names and photographs of real missing people were featured. In that music video, the picture of fifteen-year-old Vicky Hamilton is displayed just long enough to burn the image of the girl with the short bob haircut into your mind. When the video was made, Vicky had been missing from her family in Scotland for two years. A little while later in the video, there is another photograph of a girl, Dinah McNicol, an 18-year-old from Essex, in the UK, who had just finished her A-level exams. When the Soul Asylum video was made, Dinah had also been missing for two years. Aside from the fact that both girls went missing six months apart in the same year, and aside from the fact that they both appeared in the same music video, two other things connected these girls. They had both been murdered by the same man. And they both shared the same grave.Join Jen and Cam as we discuss the chilling case of Peter Tobin, one of the UK's most depraved serial killers. If you listen to the podcast, you know a thing or two about crime. You may like the following questions: Why did they do it? How did they do it? Why this victim and not someone else? No matter why you listen, I bet you can remember a case from childhood that left a mark, changed how you looked at humanity, or made you lose your innocence. For me, this is that story. I had just turned 11 years old and I still remember the look of shock on my mother's face when she was talking about this. The call came through just before dawn on Thursday, October 23, 1980. A dispatcher's voice crackled over the radio, summoning officers and an ambulance to Pope's Cafeteria at 12450 Manchester Road, inside West County Center in Des Peres, Missouri. If you are local, you may call it the White Dove, at least we did growing up. When officers arrived, they were met with a small crowd of employees, still in their uniforms, visibly shaken. Some clung to each other for support, their faces pale with shock as they pointed officers toward the inside of the restaurant. Lawrencia Bembenek's beauty was both a blessing and a curse. To some, it was a key that unlocked doors. But to others, it was the perfect tool for shaping a narrative—a narrative that framed her as a modern-day femme fatale. The press depicted her as “a former Playboy bunny,” yet Laurie had worked only three weeks as a waitress at the Lake Geneva Playboy Club and never posed for the magazine in her birthday suit. The closest she came to being a centerfold was fully clothed in a Schlitz beer calendar. This story was eaten up by the public and often distorted by the media. There were public rallies cheering her on with cries of “Run, Bambi, Run,” the name the press gave her and the name she hated. People could not get enough of this case, which brings me to the whole reason I decided to cover it today, as it may sound a bit familiar to another case in the headlines today. Take a listen and see what you think. Was Laurie set up?
