This week, the boys cover “Fight Club”, the 1999 movie that is both an of-its-time dark satire and a should-have-been-released-in-2025 heat check. Before we dive into it, we need to get drinking! So we discuss the new Paul Thomas Anderson “Dr. Strangelove”-esque gripping satire (maybe?), “One Battle After Another”, the new Daniel Day-Lewis film “Anemone”, directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, and John made it to the red carpet premier of Guillermo del Toro's latest fright film “Frankenstein”. This week, we go to the theaters to see was will most certainly be a frontrunner for best picture of 2025. This film blends action, drama, political commentary, and, most importantly, humor into a unique yet accessible joyride. See this one in the theaters if you can. One Battle After Another (2025), directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
"No fear. Like Tom f---ing Cruise." One Battle After Another is Paul Thomas Anderson like you've never seen him before. Gripping you from the first second of its barnburner opening montage, Anderson synthesizes his typical mastery of emotional stakes with the very unexpected: action chops. We discuss his love for Terminator 2, another all-timer Leonardo DiCaprio performance, and the star turn of one Chase Infiniti. Even middle-of-the-road PTA is good enough for a spot in the best of the decade. Hell, make it two decades.
Writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson is back with a new feature film, ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. Hailed as the best movie of the year and one of the defining movies of the decade, can it possibly live up to the hype? Listen to find out!
In this episode Kody and Korbin discuss the 2000's parody "Scary Movie" (35:35) at length after a short spoiler free discussion of Regina Hall's newest film "One Battle After Another" (5:20)Hosts: Korbin Zvokel and Kody Webbhttps://linktr.ee/khapodcast Leave us a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/khapodcast/message
This story mainly focuses on a former revolutionary father (Oscar-Winner Leonardo DiCaprio) and his daugther (Chase Infiniti) in the midst of an ongoing revolution when suddenly both are on the run from a determined government agent (Oscar-Winner Sean Penn) who initially arrested their former revolutionary wife/mother (Teyana Taylor) sixteen years prior. But of course this new highly acclaimed satirical political thriller/domestic drama from Multiple Oscar-nominee (but not yet winner) Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, The Phantom Thread, Licorice Pizza, Magnolia) is about MUCH more than that....or is it? Regardless this film almost defies genre and also co-stars Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, Wood Harris, and Alaina Haim among several others. Let's see if this lives up the hype....Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

We inaugurate the late Japanese master Shinji Sōmai with a discussion of his beautiful, melancholy coming-of-age drama Moving. The film follows the young Ren as she navigates her parents' recent separation, balancing loyalties to both her mother and father, dealing with gossiping classmates, and making attempts to reconcile the marriage. With a characteristic sensitivity and perceptiveness for the experience of youth, Sōmai excavates a universe of detail from the film's simple premise, arriving at a profoundly moving and cathartic emotional climax. We begin by discussing Sōmai as director, his style, and what we think might have drawn him to stories about the occasionally painful experiences of youth. Then, we explore how the film elicits nuance within the childhood experience of familial separation, acknowledging both the grief intrinsic to such experiences and the role children play as emotional anchors for their parents. Finally, we examine Sōmai's considerations about modern Japanese life and how he rallies against conservative social positions on divorce through the film's delicate character work. RUNDOWN (352) is Gainesville, Florida — home of the University of Florida. They reflect on Petty's legendary catalog, from “American Girl” to “Free Fallin',” his Beatles-inspired path to music, and his legacy in Gators football culture. Mitch and Hotshot recap the Seahawks' nail-biting win in Glendale, where a late Jason Meyers field goal sealed the victory to move Seattle to 3–1. They turn to the Huskies' tough loss against Ohio State, noting costly penalties and red-zone failures that made the final score more lopsided than the game felt. The Mariners closed the regular season with a sweep at the hands of the Dodgers but secured the No. 2 seed at 90–72. Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas join Mitch to debate whether the late skid matters, the state of the bullpen (Bazardo vs. Brash in high-leverage spots, Munoz's control issues), and the playoff rotation order. They also spar over Cal Raleigh's MVP case against Aaron Judge and whether Seattle should prefer Cleveland or Detroit in the ALDS. The Seahawks dominated for three quarters in Arizona before letting the Cardinals storm back with 17 unanswered points, needing Jason Myers' last-second field goal to escape with a win. The No-Table crew weighs Sam Darnold's poise, Mike Macdonald's conservative late-game decisions, the defense's lapses, and the ongoing questions with the run game and offensive line. Mitch welcomes CBS Sports' Rick Neuheisel, presented by Taco Time Northwest, for his weekly whip-around of the college football world. They break down Washington's missed opportunities against Ohio State, Alabama's statement win at Georgia, and why depth in the trenches separates contenders from pretenders. Rick also weighs in on Penn State's playoff chances, Miami–Florida State as a marquee matchup, and hands out his Chicken Caesar Taco awards before making his Week 6 pick. One Battle After Another is an action-thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor and Sean Penn. DiCaprio plays a washed up ex-revolutionary searching for his missing daughter while raging against the machine. In this case, the machine is unabashedly racist, xenophobic, and corrupt. Hey, everyone - It's been a while but I'm finally back with another review. Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another is now out in theaters. This is, as of now, by far the best reviewed movie of the entire year, even over Sinners, so expectations were high going into the theater. I've always found PTA to be a little hit-or-miss with me. He always makes good films, but I've found movies such as Licorice Pizza and Punch-Drunk Love to be somewhat overrated while still recognizing the brilliance of some of his other films. So, does One Battle After Another solidify itself as the Best Picture frontrunner? Find out in this review! One Battle After Another:Written and Directed by: Paul Thomas AndersonInspired by the novel 'Vineland' by Thomas PynchonProduced by: Paul Thomas Anderson, Sara Murphy, Adam SomnerExecutive Prodocuers: Pete Chiapetta, Andrew Lary, Anthony Tittanegro, Will WeiskeMusic by: Johnny GreenwoodDirector of Photography: Michael BaumanEdited by: Andy JurgensenCasting by: Cassandra KulukundisProduction Design by: Florencia MartinCostume Design by: Colleen AtwoodCast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase InfinitiSynopsis: When their evil nemesis resurfaces after 16 years, a band of ex-revolutionaries reunite to rescue the daughter of one of their own.
Director Paul Thomas Anderson's newest film “One Battle After Another” is an action thriller following ex-revolutionary Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio) who must rescue his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), from his corrupt military nemesis. In his rush to find her, both father and daughter are forced to confront the consequences of their past. The film also stars Teyana Taylor as Willa's revolutionary mother, plus Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Regina Hall. With messages of rebellion, loyalty to family and the fight against white supremacy, Reggie "The Reel Critic" Ponder says the film will make the audience question: “What would you do to protect your child?” "The Reel Critic" is hosted and produced by Reggie Ponder.
