Myles from The More You Nerd podcast is back this week to talk about the 2017 Japanese Horror Comedy movie, One Cut of the Dead. Be warned, we are spoiling this movie and if you want to go in blind (and we suggest you do) catch it on Shudder.com first, then listen to us talk about it. It's about a small budge crew making a zombie movie, when real zombies appear. So is it worthy of the critical praise it has gotten? Or just another lazy zombie comedy? This week, Drew Burris from The More You Nerd is back to talk about Summer Camp. Specifically the 1994 film, Camp Nowhere. A bunch of kids scam their parents out of the money for their various summer camps, and with the help of a former drama teacher and free spirit (played by the inimitable Christopher Lloyd) they rent some cabins for 8 weeks of summer fun. A pure 90s time capsule that Drew had never seen before. So, is it a fun trip on the nostalgia train? Or does the movie just rain on summer for a hour and a half? We're continuing our cyberpunk series this week with the 1995 Keanu Reeves-starring actioner JOHNNY MNEMONIC and we're bringing Myles from The More You Nerd along for the ride! Synopsis:A data courier, literally carrying a data package inside his head, must deliver it before he dies from the burden or is killed by the Yakuza. In a dystopian 2021, Johnny (Keanu Reeves) is a data trafficker who has an implant that allows him to securely store data too sensitive for regular computer networks. On one delivery run, he accepts a package that not only exceeds the implant’s safety limits – and will kill him if the data is not removed in time – but also contains information far more important and valuable than he had ever imagined. On a race against time, he must avoid the assassins sent to kill him and remove the data before it, too, ends his life. JOHNNY MNEMONIC was derided upon release, but how has it aged? Is it's wackiness (Ice-T! Henry Rollins! Bio-dolphins! Jesus Lundgren!) enough to make it worth another look?  We'd love to hear your thoughts! This week, we're joined by Myles Griffin of The More You Nerd as we discuss Josh Trank's 2015 box office bomb, Fantastic Four (also stylized as Fant4stic) rated 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.   Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, this superhero reboot was plagued with studio interference and a spastic director, which led to shaky ground and an unsatisfying movie.   As far as technical craft and formalism, this is the best movie we've watched on our journey. While not ideal, Fantastic Four presents a grounded, grittier world with an okay enough story to hook the viewer. It all falls apart during the final act of the film, as the studio forced in a comic book ending.   We analyze what worked and what didn't, why Josh Trank famously panned his own movie as it came out, and how you could possibly make a great Fantastic Four film.   We finish the episode with another round of 20 Questions—this time pertaining to Game of Thrones! Of course, we'd much rather answer your questions, so send us listener mail at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com or leave it in a review for us on iTunes!
