Making a Scene Presents an Interview with The Silverteens The Silverteens are a Minneapolis band with deep roots in the city's rock, punk, new wave, and power pop history. Long known for an eclectic live set that pulls from obscure 1960s garage rock, late 1970s punk, power pop, and other high-energy corners of rock and roll, the band brings together musicians who have been active in the local scene since the 1970s and 1980s. What gives The Silverteens their character is not just their song selection, but the history behind the players. Each member carries decades of experience from Minneapolis clubs, original bands, cover projects, and the underground music community that helped shape the city's identity. Their sound reflects that background: raw but tuneful, loose in the right places, sharp when it counts, and rooted in the joy of playing songs that still have electricity in them. http://www.makingascene.org

What a privilege to talk with rock royalty like Ian Gillan. Deep Purple's 24th studio album drops on July 3rd, called Splat! Ian and I talk about his love for making new music, working with legendary producer Bob Ezrin, and a newfound energy in the band. That energy? Guitarist Simon McBride. Ian reaped praise on Simon for bringing a new spirit to the fold. Besides talking about the new "heavier" album, I had to relay a story to Ian about the time brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul told me about the first song they ever played together: Smoke On The Water. They told me that it was a six-minute song, that they stretched out to about six hours!Up next is Buffalo, New York musician, Ryan Perdz. Ryan is dropping a new record this August and is here to tell me about it. Where did he get his musical influences? Where did he play around Buffalo? How did grunge affect him? He's got a real Chris Cornell sound to his vocals. He's playing a show at the El Club in Detroit on June 14th. In today's show, Sandy shares some fun insights about onomatopoeia, which can be a writer's best friend when you want to avoid using the same dull words repeatedly—especially in action scenes. Onomatopoeia is when a word is formed to imitate a sound, like “Boom!”, “Pow!”, or “Splat!”. If you're a screenwriter, it's a handy trick to keep in your toolkit, especially when crafting exciting action moments. Using onomatopoeia can really bring your writing to life and make it more engaging for your readers, actors, or development executives reading your screenplay.Executive Producer Kristin OvernCreator/Executive Producer Sandy AdomaitisProducer Terry SampsonMusic by Ethan Stoller

Splat Daisies, is a solo exhibition of dreamlike paintings and sculpture by Sarah Alice Moran. Splat is a cartoon word and the spaces in these paintings draw on that system of suspended rationale. By loosening the rules of scale, gravity, and time, Moran creates dreamy pastoral scenes where humans, animals, and nature coexist without hierarchy. The show explores the quiet, almost mystical bonds between humans and animals, and the ways they shape our emotional lives. Moran paints wet-on-wet, letting thin washes of color blend and bleed across the canvas. Sunflowers dissolve into daisies, shadows become shapes, and light seemingly glows from the flowers themselves. Her compositions balance the elastic logic of cartoons with a sophisticated command of color and atmosphere. Figures, rainbows, and blossoms appear in different configurations while animals move through these spaces less as narrative agents but  as symbolic or devotional presences. Among them, inevitably, is the artist's dog Pepper. Pepper died early in the making of this series, and her prolonged illness ushered in an extended period of anticipatory grief. During this time, Moran found solace in researching ancient Roman dog epitaphs—concise, tender monuments that affirmed the endurance of this bond across millennia. The result is a body of work that is a meditation on companionship, loss, and remembrance—a garden for Pepper to inhabit and for the artist herself to heal within. Two large-scale column paintings, inspired by the artist's research on ancient Rome, create an architectural space – a temple – for the sculptures to operate as a shrine, and visitors are encouraged to bring their dogs; milk bones will be provided. Line Hilton hosts the Singing Teachers Talk podcast and challenges the continued, vague use of “support” and appoggio in breath management teaching, arguing that research shows no single correct breathing strategy among elite singers and that singers often misidentify what their respiratory muscles are doing. She explains how singing uses much larger lung-volume ranges than speech, often requiring controlled braking against passive recoil rather than pushing more air, and notes that trained singers don't have bigger lungs—just better coordination. Drawing on sources including Miller, McCoy, Titze, Sundberg, and EMG research, she reframes “support” as task-specific breath management shaped by genre, physiology, and performance demands, and offers practical studio strategies such as audiation, mental rehearsal, the Underwood method, SPLAT, physiological sigh, sustained S/counting, straw phonation, gestural calibration, score marking, CO2 tolerance work, and respiratory hygiene.  WHAT'S IN THIS PODCAST? 00:19 Why the term support bothers me 01:47 What the research says 04:23 Why breath is complex 08:42 The problem with support 14:55 Reframing as Breath Management 15:32 Studio tools and exercises 23:43 Bigger picture  and hygiene 24:42 Key takeaways and language shift  About the presenter HERE RELEVANT MENTIONS & LINKS   SEE WEBSITE FOR FULL LIST OF RESOURCES HERE

Hello Booty Gang, and welcome back to another episode of BUTT HONESTLY with Dr. Carlton and Dangilo—where the questions are specific, the answers are thoughtful, and the tone is… professionally unhinged. This week, we kick things off with a listener asking about “lazy gut”—what it means, what's myth versus medicine, and how it intersects with some very advanced extracurricular activities. Then we slide into a practical (and surprisingly common) question: can STIs stick to silicone lube? It's part chemistry lesson, part public health PSA, and fully in line with the show's mission of keeping things sexy and smart. And yes… we hear from a listener named Splat—who writes in with a response to last week's conversation about straight men. The name alone deserves airtime, and the message does not disappoint.Outside the inbox, the guys take a moment to highlight some important news out of Florida, where lawmakers have restored funding for HIV/AIDS medication programs—a reminder that access to care is not just policy, it's personal.Of course, no episode would be complete without tackling a timeless debate: hairy, trimmed, or shaved? The answers are passionate, the opinions are strong, and no one leaves unchanged. As always, they wrap things up with their Love Language of the Week, because after all the science, sass, and Splat… we still believe in connection.Press play. It's educational, it's entertaining, and it's Butt Honestly at its finest.

The Bonfire with Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder

The Heelys have finally arrived and the guys waste no time in dangerously trying them out on the carpet. Jay gets discouraged and needs a pep talk to brave his new roller shoes. | Jacob reaches a milestone achievement that no one seems to care about. He completed "The Seven Exercises Every Man Should Do." Bobby attempts the pull-ups using trick videography and Jay stretches out into a wall splat and proves the maneuver is worthy of its name. *To hear the full show to go www.siriusxm.com/bonfire to learn more! Rotten Horror Picture Show

This week on The Rotten Horror Picture Show Podcast, Clay and Amanda hit the gas with a discussion of Duel (1971), the lean, mean thriller that marked the feature debut of a young Steven Spielberg. Originally produced as a television movie, Duel was so effective, so tightly constructed, that it was later expanded and released theatrically—launching Spielberg's career with a simple but terrifying premise: one man, one car, and one relentless, faceless truck driver who refuses to let him go. Clay and Amanda break down how Spielberg builds unbearable tension out of open highways, sparse dialogue, and pure cinematic momentum. It's stripped-down suspense at its finest, proof that you don't need aliens or sharks to make an audience squirm—just a road and something chasing you down it.Now, personally? I don't care for driving. Not because of road rage. Not because of reckless truckers. No, my grievance is far more tragic. The windshield. That thick, cruel pane of betrayal stands between me and what could be a veritable buffet of airborne delights. Do you know how many juicy, protein-packed bugs are out there on the highway? Countless. And what happens? Splat. Wasted. Perfectly good snacks smeared uselessly against the glass instead of landing directly where nature intended—right in my open mouth.Watching Duel is especially frustrating for me. All that speeding down lonely desert roads, all that prime insect territory just zooming by untouched. Dennis Weaver's character is busy worrying about a murderous truck, and I'm thinking, “Sir, do you realize the missed culinary opportunity here?”Still, Clay and Amanda make a strong case for the film's brilliance. They explore its minimalism, its craftsmanship, and how Spielberg transforms the mundane act of driving into a primal survival story. Me? I'll be listening carefully—preferably with the window down. You never know what might fly in.And don't forget to visit patreon.com/thepenskyfile to help support the show, and follow Clay and Amanda down the road of horror sequels this year!
