It's Ladies' Night, and the women are taking over—with bizarre misunderstandings, strange crimes, and a little vigilante justice. This week, Trevin finally asks his doctor about a problem he's had for twenty years and walks away with the most metal injury imaginable: calcified scar tissue. Amanda's fish tank continues to multiply, as separating the boys too late leaves her with an entire school of baby fish. For Two Truths and a Lie, Amanda takes Trevin on a nostalgic trip through Are You Afraid of the Dark?, giving him three episode summaries and asking him to identify the completely fabricated nightmare. Trevin fights back with bizarre facts about children's music, including Yo Gabba Gabba, The Wiggles, and a very unexpected metal band of dinosaurs. Because apparently children's entertainment has always been a little weird. For storytime, Amanda takes us to Otisville, New York, where Danielle Rodriguez and her mother encounter a bizarre traffic stop involving suspicious legs in a car, a possible kidnapping, and a hilarious misunderstanding that gets caught on a Ring camera. Then Trevin takes us all the way to Christchurch, New Zealand, where three women living abroad—Sarah Campbell, Anna Campbell, and Charlotte Walker—return home to discover they've been victims of a burglary. With passports, electronics, jewelry, medication, clothing, and other belongings stolen, the women aren't exactly thrilled with the police response. When they spot a mysterious shopping cart and begin tracking down their stolen property themselves, Ladies' Night turns into a real-life hunt for the burglars. Two stories, two very different misunderstandings, and plenty of women proving that sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands. Take a break from the heavy and get petty! If you're not listening to our sister podcast, Laughing in the Dark, an Are You Afraid of the Dark rewatch podcast here's your chance to check it out with Season 3, Episode 4: The Tale of the Dollmaker. This week it's Aileen's turn to tell the 9:30 Society all about the fifth episode of the third season of Are You Afraid of the Dark: The Tale of the Dollmaker. This episode hits us with some AYAOTD classic tropes. You get a kid abandoned by their parents for a time, a complete lack of anything that you could call a dollmaker, and people being real weird about trauma. In this episode we find Melissa spending some time at her aunt and uncle's place. She's eager to hang out with their neighbor, a girl her own age but is shocked to learn that this friend of her vanished mysteriously and no trace of her was ever found. What's worse, her parents were so broken up about it that they packed up and moved away and no one will talk about the lingering horror of this disappearance. They just keep pushing it down. But because it's Are You Afraid of the Dark, Melissa keeps breaking into the empty neighbor house and discovers some really weird stuff going down in that attic. Don't forget to listen to Bryan and Dave on Bring Me The Axe! and 99 Cent Rental, Aileen on Uy Que Horror! and Mikie on The Rewatcher!

We are back after a brief hiatus and I'm joined by my friend Pippin as they brought a fun movie to the podcast to discuss, 2002s Eight Legged Freaks. This one was a lot of fun to talk about and I get a little bit excited to talk about it with a friend and to be back recording. Thanks for being patient with us and our breaks, there's been a lot of stuff happening that required we take some time off but we are getting back into the swing of things since our favorite time of the year is quickly approaching. #skewereduniversepodcast #skewereduniverse #podcast #horror #horrorpodcast #horrormovies #movies #bmovies #creaturefeature #eightleggedfreaks #eightleggedfreaksmovie #davidarquette #kariwuhrer #scarlettjohansson #spiders #toxicwaste #mutantspiders Want to connect with Skewered Universe on Social Media? Brian and Jeff welcome Shane Hawk, a Cheyenne and Arapaho horror writer and editor, creator of the Native Horror Index, and contributing editor at Counterpoint Press acquiring and editing Indigenous North American writers. Hawk explains how horror can produce joy through safe distance, catharsis, and the chance to rewrite grim histories by letting Native characters survive and resist stereotypes. He recounts early influences (Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, a childhood Halloween scare), returning to intense reading in adulthood, and self-publishing Anoka in 2020 before COVID led him to spearhead Never Whistle at Night with co-editor Ted Van Alst, evolving from a Discord/Twitter idea to a Vintage deal and major sales. He discusses horror community support, the anthology's themes of revenge and community, his comfort centering Native perspectives, co-writing the stage audio-drama The Land Has Spoken, launching the directory-style Native Horror Index. The sequel to Never Whistle at Night, titled Back for Blood, is set for August 18, 2026.ShaneHawk.comNative Horror Index
The main reason I think I love art so much is because it's full of mystery. I've long had a soft spot for the unusual. Somewhere between Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, I realized my fascination with the unexplained, and I've been chasing that feeling ever since. It was only a matter of time before that curiosity led me to the art world. After all, every great mystery leaves clues. So does every great work of art.Art rewards those willing to think like a detective. Understanding a work of art means leaning into that mystery, and following its scent down a long trail of clues, symbols, and intentions. Why are certain objects illuminated while others recede into darkness? What's the difference between an open palm and a closed fist? Why does one figure meet your gaze while another looks away? It all means something, if you're willing to look closely enough.Of course, when I learned about Jane! at Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, I had to speak with its curator. Jane! explores the enigmatic life, and even more mysterious death, of Jane Stanford, founder and matriarch of Stanford University. An advocate of the arts, a collector of oddities, a spiritualist, and the steward of the Cantor, Jane was a remarkably complex woman of the Gilded Age. After surviving one apparent poisoning attempt, Jane died just weeks later under circumstances that remain as mysterious today as they were in 1905. Perhaps it's no wonder that her final resting place lies in a mausoleum just steps from the museum she built. What may be even more mysterious are the numerous staff and students who claim to have seen a woman eerily similar to her portrait wandering Stanford's grounds. On this episode of Unibrow Radio, I speak with Patrick R. Crowley, Associate Curator of European Art at the Cantor, about why it's time for everyone to know Jane, (and her ghost,) a little better. No Ouija board needed. –– Shaquille HeathJane! Life, Vision, and Legacy of Jane Stanford is on view at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University through May 18, 2028.

In this episode, we're peeling back the layers on everything from the heavy stuff—like societal reactions to tragedy and the ethics of justice—to the lighter, yet just as complex, world of celebrity and streamer culture. It's a wide-ranging conversation that hits on why we feel what we feel when the world gets loud. What's Inside:The Serious Side: We navigate the emotional weight of witnessing public tragedy, the morality of self-defense, and how we handle grief and conflict in a world that often leans toward vigilante justice.Pop Culture deep-dive: We're celebrating Ariana Grande's incredible career evolution and tackling the real talk on body image, health, and the pressure of public authenticity. The Internet Under a Microscope: Ever wonder how reality TV evolved into the wild world of modern streaming? We're looking at influencer culture, the debates surrounding online personalities (and the internet's obsession with speculating on their private lives), and the legal messy-ness of recent viral dramas like the Reckless Ben/Lego controversy.Music & More: I'm sharing some thoughts on Drake's latest sounds, my personal mountaineering journey toward Everest, and a few life updates from our world.Whether we're talking about the "vibe" of public figures or the real-world consequences of online conflict, this episode is all about maintaining boundaries while staying tapped into the culture.Resources Mentioned:Deep Dives: Coffeezilla on the Lego fraud & Reckless Ben's latestWatch & Listen: Rob Anderson's Are You Afraid of the Nineties?, Young MA's Kween, and the latest from Ariana & Drake.Stay Connected:Email us: vivalalifemedia@gmail.comRead Ash Tonee's memoir, "Cowboy Boots and Broken Hearts: A Love Story Ballad" here: https://linktr.ee/ashtoneeListen to our Music Podcast, Crash Course Pod: https://www.spreaker.com/show/643054Check out our other podcasts, blog posts, LIVE! shows, music page and more! https://ashtontoneecasilla.wixsite.com/vivalalifepodcastFollow us on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/vivalalifepodcast/Follow Ash Tonee's Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@JusPhucketFor more on the weird, wonderful, and complex world of digital society, make sure to check out the latest episodes of Crash Course Pod.
I love goosebumps books and anything similar to goosebumps! After meeting AD Aro of Bumps in the Night, i came across MJ Miedema, who is writing his own book series! Midnight Fives Cursed Tales is super fun! Certainly has inspiration from Goosebumps but also Are You Afraid of the Dark! Not only that MJ is also a big wrestling fan! I think everyone will enjoy this bonus episode!

In this powerful episode of Inside the Vault with Ash Cash, Trishonna shares one of the most raw and inspiring journeys we've ever heard. From being kicked out at 17… To battling depression… To building a 7-figure business before 30… To fighting for her daughter while scaling multiple companies…This is not just a business conversation. This is resilience, funding strategy, motherhood, monetization, and real wealth building. At just 24 years old, she secured $36,000 in funding to launch an ice cream shop — a business she didn't even have passion for — and turned it into a 6-figure operation in 60 days.By 26, she had scaled to multiple 7 figures. In this episode, she breaks down:How to get funding (even with bad credit)Why most entrepreneurs don't actually have a bad business — just no capitalThe difference between looking rich and building wealthHow to monetize social media properlyWhy people are actually afraid of successHow motherhood changed her business mindsetWhy money management is more important than making moneyIf you've ever felt stuck… If you've ever doubted yourself… If you've ever wondered how to turn attention into income…This episode is your blueprint.

Super Soaker battles, gravedigging legends, and androgynous icons… Oh lawd, it's about to get pretty dark! These ‘90s kids are finishing up season 2 of Are You Afraid of the Dark? and going out with a bang… a game, really, of potentially disastrous consequences. Around here, we recognize that it's important—maybe now more than ever—to play. To connect to our inner children and re-live carefree times gone by. In fact, kids have been hiding-and-seeking for nearly all of recorded history. But in the case of this Midnight Society tale, we find that play can sometimes become an eternal state of being. When Stephen Spielberg released his iconic film Jaws in the summer of 1975, he not only kicked off the phenomenon of the summer blockbuster, but also reignited the public's fascination with and fear of shark attacks. Although based on a book of the same name, that novel was itself heavily influenced on several real-life events from the past, including one particular summer on the Jersey Shore. In the early twentieth-century, most Americans didn't think much about sharks or the other potentially dangerous fish and animals that lived in the ocean. In fact, the majority of Americans don't live in coastal areas and probably didn't know there were differences between species. That all changed in the summer of 1916, when a loan shark killed four people and critically injured one person in the waters along the Jersey Shore. More than merely accidental bites, the attacks seemed almost intentional, leading to the widespread belief that a man-eater was stalking the waters of the northeastern state. In the century that has passed since, the Jersey Shore shark attacks have fueled Americans imaginations and nightmares, leading to widely celebrated novels and films about sharks, but also contributing to serious misunderstandings about sharks and their behavior, often with terrible consequences. It's Friday the 13th and you know what that means! This Friday we're taking on 1985's great betrayal. They said they were done with The Final Chapter. The story was told. Jason was dead. No more Friday the 13th movies for you! But money moves all tides and you can't stop Jason Voorhees so they found a way to bring him back for one more, and one more, and one more. You get the picture. Our good friend Aileen Clark from Uy Que Horror and our sister podcast, Laughing in the Dark, an Are You Afraid of the Dark rewatch pod, joins us for all the mayhem and carnage. It's five years later and Tommy Jarvis, badly traumatized by his encounter with Jason in the last movie is on his way to a half-way house after years of mental institutions. He's still haunted and as we'll see with the patients at this facility, maybe many of them aren't ready to ease back into society. If it's not bad enough that he still sees Jason everywhere he looks, a series of brutal murders happen just as he's settling in to his new space. When the dust settles, it would appear that Jason Voorhees is back for more bodies but something's up with this Jason. What could it be? Send us a textPress play and step through a time portal to the 1990s—sports dynasties on every screen, movie tie-ins on your soda cup, sitcoms that rewired comedy, and a Monday night where wrestling made the whole country pick a side. We hand the reins to our manager, Fiddy, and bring a lively panel together to relive the decade that shaped how we watch, listen, and eat.We kick off with the big question: were the 90s the true peak of sports dominance? From Jordan's Bulls to Gretzky and Lemieux, home run chases, and quarterbacks who defined eras, we tally the legends and ask if a decade could ever stack stars like that again. Then it's straight into the booth with John Madden and Pat Summerall—why their chemistry felt effortless and how their calls still echo in our heads. On the big screen, we revisit the Batman hype machine, the marketing that swallowed whole summers, and the films we still stop to watch—Heat, Forrest Gump, Mallrats, Billy Madison, Tombstone, Friday, and more.TV gets a full tour: 90210's taboo-breaking storylines, the TGIF routine, Seinfeld vs Friends, Fresh Prince, Married with Children, X-Files, Nickelodeon game shows, and the eerie charm of Are You Afraid of the Dark? We fire up the Monday Night Wars—WWF vs WCW, the NWO invasion, ECW chaos, and the Attitude Era's lightning-in-a-bottle energy that made pay-per-views must-see. Music rounds out the culture shift: grunge and alt-rock, hip-hop's canon from Biggie and Tupac to Outkast and Wu-Tang, pop's boy band takeover, Hootie's singalongs, and TRL's daily decider that turned tastes into a scoreboard. We close where so many memories started: McDonald's birthday parties, ball pits, Happy Meal toys, Pizza Hut red roofs, Ponderosa buffets, Denny's late nights, Chi-Chi's chips and salsa, and that perfect McDSubscribe for exclusive content: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1530455/support Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREETactical BrotherhoodThe Tactical Brotherhood is a movement to support America.Dubby EnergyFROM GAMERS TO GYM JUNKIES TO ENTREPRENEURS, OUR PRODUCT IS FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE BETTER.ShankitgolfOur goal here at Shankitgolf is for everyone to have a great time on and off the golf courseSweet Hands SportsElevate your game with Sweet Hands Sports! The Sunday morning message from Trinity Chapel with Truth to Ponder host and church pastor, Bob Biermann. Today's message, “Are You Afraid of God?”
It's that time again! Gut that pumpkin and fill it with eggnog, because we're listening to EVEN MORE Christmas/Halloween crossover songs. Not only have we not run out of these, we've still got a few that are, you know, not terrible! We start with "Spooky Halloween Chrismtas" by Giftshop and have to re-learn what psychobilly is, then get into a more familiar groove with "Halloween on Christmas" by The Walking Who. Plus: a last-minute Halloween costume idea for couples, and also a third person, preferably a sibling or in-law! The intro sting in this episode is the theme song of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" composed by Jeff Zahn & Jeff Fischer and the ranking music is "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads.
In this spooky nostalgic episode, I sit down with actor Amos Crawley known for his memorable role in The Haunted Mask Parts 1 and 2 of Goosebumps, his appearance in Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Billy Madison and many other 90's classics. Amos opens up about growing up on sets, childhood stardom, and how those early roles shaped his life on and off screen. We explore the impact of The Haunted Mask, the era of kids' horror, his voice work as Arnold and the mystery behind his surprising appearance in a Lady Gaga music video. This conversation is packed with stories, scares, laughter, and a whole lot of throwbacks.E123Host: Nathanael ReyesGuest: Amos Crawleyhttps://linktr.ee/imnathanaelreyesFollow Me - @imnathanaelreyesShop SMACKIN' Sunflower Seeds - CODE: NATHANAEL99963https://www.smackinsunflowerseeds.com/NATHANAEL99963Shop Jocko Fuel - CODE: REYESREFLECTION https://jockofuel.comShop Mad Rabbit - CODE: REYESREFLECTION https://www.madrabbit.com

311 – Do the people you love know you love them?Have you ever felt a deep sense of love and affection for someone, but they had no clue you cared so much about them? All too often someone feels unloved, while people actually do love them, but they never tell the person or express their love in a tangible way.In this week's episode we're going to talk about the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself from a little different angle: How to love people so they know they are lovedHow Jesus loved people so they felt his loveHow you can love people the exact way Jesus didDon't just tell people you love them, although that is important. Show them your love by how you treat them, how you listen to them, how you're patient with them, how you help them, and what you do unexpectedly to bring them joy.And the beautiful thing in doing this is, when you let someone know you love them and express that love in a way they feel loved, you will feel more love as well. ∞∞∞∞∞∞Previous episodes mentioned this week: Episode 4: Are You Afraid to Love as Much as Jesus Did?
