Send us Fan MailOn this 120th episode of the Triple FFF we're going to chip away at the rock solid box office pairing of Author Andy Weir and screenwriter Drew Goddard as we discuss their two sci fi smash hits, 2015's The Martian directed by Ridley Scott and starringMatt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Michael Peña, Sean Bean, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, MacKenzie Davis, Donald Glover, and Jeff Daniels along with 2026's Project Hail Mary directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Millerstarring Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller and James Ortiz as the lovable and wacky alien Rocky. Returning to the show to discuss these crowd-pleasing and visually spectacular space epics is none other than Dr. David Johnson, DMD, whom I've called upon as a secret weapon in the last three films we've discussed because they were squarely in his wheelhouse: dancing and strutting his stuff with Michael, putting on a tough fit with Prada 1 & 2 and now his biggest passion and strength, HARD SCIENCE. Before we drift into deep space, the synopses: In the Martian, astronaut Mark Watney is impaled and presumed dead during a wicked Martian storm which causes his crew of astronaut/explorers to launch an emergency evacuation. Alive, wounded and alone on Mars Watney must use science, engineering, and endurance to survive long enough for Earth to mount an impossible rescue mission. In Project Hail Mary, Ryland Grace, a lone astronaut suffering from memory loss, awakens aboard a spacecraft on a desperate deep-space mission and gradually discovers he is humanity's last hope against a cosmic extinction event. Along the way, he encounters an alien astronaut from another species sent on a similar mission to protect its own civilization. Can the two work together to save their respective planets? Are these films fabulous or fails? Find out! Watch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/KqQbMzJx6wY
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNAUL-lbTtw

But her quest uncovers even more complications about the friends' decades-long relationship, as even more people in their social circle become persons of interest. The movie adaptation of Andy Weir's novel, “Project Hail Mary” is a big box office hit. However, the first movie adaptation of a Andy Weir novel, that was a big box office hit, was “The Martian” starring Matt Damon in 2015. That's what I'm retro reviewing this week. Damon plays astronaut/botanist Mark Watney, who's part of a NASA mission on Mars. His team has to suddenly evacuate Mars and Mark is killed, or so his crew thinks. Surprise! He's alive and the movie becomes all about the mission to save Mark. Is it worth finding out what happens next enough to watch this? Find out on this episode of Movies Merica Live! “The Martian” also stars Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Chiewetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Sebastian Stan, Sean Bean, Aksel Hennie, Benedict Wong, Mackenzie Davis and Donald Glover. David The Book: In the summer of 1982, something extraordinary happened in a silent forest of upstate New York—something that would alter one man's life forever. More than four decades later, screenwriter Reinhard Denke unexpectedly uncovered a long-hidden truth when a casual acquaintance, E. B. David, shared the harrowing details of that night for the very first time. What began as a simple recollection of a strangely glowing object soon unraveled into a chilling and deeply personal account of alien contact. David describes not only the encounter itself, but also the profound psychological and physical effects that have haunted—and in some cases, enlightened—him ever since. Part confessional, part investigation, this gripping narrative offers a rare, intimate glimpse into one man's extraordinary experience with the unknown—and the lasting impact it has had on his life. This is the untold story of E. B. David. And it all began with a light in the sky. Director Ridley Scott returned to outer space with the 2013 Alien prequel Prometheus, set on a distant world, and two years later, when he adapted Andy Weir's best-selling 2011 novel, Scott visited another extraterrestrial destination, albeit one relatively closer to home: Mars. On the Red Planet, Matt Damon plays an astronaut stranded by fate who must survive in the harsh environment while his NASA colleagues come up with plans to rescue him. With an ensemble cast, including Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, and Benedict Wong, the film was an interplanetary success, premiering at Number One and going on to top the box office for multiple non-consecutive weekends. Just a month after its release, the film surpassed Gladiator to become Scott's highest-grossing film at the domestic box office. With Weir's novel Project Hail Mary set to get the big screen treatment next year, we're visiting The Martian for its tenth anniversary, and we promise to bring him home when we're done! Ryan and Dylan review the various attempts to bring the most famous super family in comics to the big screen: The Fantastic Four.
In honor of the release of the new Pedro Pascal Fantastic Four: First Steps, we interrupt our Super Month with a special release! This week on Myopia Movies, we manage to find something even dumber than getting hit with cosmic rays in space—and that's saying something. We're diving headfirst into the joyless, gloomy void that is Josh Trank's 2015 Fantastic Four or as we kept calling it Fant-4-stick. It's not just a bad superhero movie—it's a bleak, baffling mess that somehow makes stretchy limbs, fire powers, and teleportation feel like a chore. Buckle up as we unpack the film that redefined the phrase "fantastic failure." How will Fantastic Four (2015) hold up? Host: Nic Panel: Nur and Keiko Directed by Josh Trank Starring: Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, Tim Blake Nelson, Joshua Montes, Dan Castellaneta, Chet Hanks, Tim Heidecker
“I'd have preferred they made no movie at all…” - Eric On this week's episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza has us chatting about the total misfire of a superhero reboot, Fantastic Four (2015)! Yikes, folks! Why are all members of the Fantastic Four under legal drinking age in this movie? Why did we need to see Reed and Ben as little kids at the beginning like it's some bad studio comedy from the 1990s? Why did so many people think this gritty, harsh take on a traditionally goofy property was a smart move? Why are the Storms snooping around high school science fairs looking for children to snatch up? And couldn't they have pumped just a little more money into this Doctor Doom costume? PLUS: Look out for the most dangerous member of the Marvel Universe — The Pebble! Fantastic Four (2015) stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Tim Blake Nelson, Dan Castellaneta, Chet Hanks, Tim Heidecker, and the late, great Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm; directed by Josh Trank. [EDITOR'S NOTE: While he's not in this FF film, we do mention Julian McMahon's performance as Dr. Doom in the Tim Story Fantastic Four films from 2005 and 2007. We recorded this about a month before Julian passed, so that's why it's not referenced here. McMahon was a great actor who, as we say in this episode, understood the assignment when playing Dr. Doom in those aughts films. Rest easy, Julian, a talented and very nice guy from all reports. — Andrew] Throughout 2025, we'll be donating 100% of our earnings from our merch shop to the Center for Reproductive Rights. So head over and check out all these masterful designs and see what tickles your fancy! Shirts? Phone cases? Canvas prints? We got all that and more! Check it out and kick in for a good cause! Twenty years ago, this tragic romantic drama took the world by storm by becoming a suprise international box office hit along with garnering massive acclaim. It even eventually won a few Academy awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Socre, and most importantly Best Director for Ang Lee who was coming off of directing two more action-oriented blockbusters before this, Hulk and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. This film's story focuses on two ranchhands just trying to make a living as they embark on herding a massive flock of sheep around the titular Brokeback Mountain. They are Ennis DelMar (Heath Ledger nominated for his performance) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal, also nominated for his) and over severals alone together on this journey, they develop a friendship which eventually becomes something more....And then we watch over the next twenty years as they keep periodically meeting up even as their lives get increinaly complicated with jobs, marriages, kids, and feelings. :o What results is a beautifully crafted tragic love story which not only broke some barriers given its subject matter but also built up a strong legacy over time as one of a select few modern classics which infamously lost the Best Picture Oscar to a far inferior film. (Crash) What better way to kick off Pride Month 2025 than to revisit this iconic love story!
