Join us as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of “RoboCop 2,” a divisive but fan-favorite entry of this franchise. We explore the collaboration that brought the film to life: director Irvin Kershner steering a dystopian future, with Frank Miller's lending his original takes to shape the story that were deemed “unfilmable” by Orion Pictures, which led to Walon Green being brought in to re-write it. We'll revisit the key performances that defined the film: Peter Weller returning as the relentless RoboCop, Nancy Allen's tough, street-smart officer, and Dan O'Herlihy lending his veteran gravitas. Belinda Bauer, Tom Noonan, and Gabriel Damon contribute to the film's unsettling spectrum of villainous characters, pushing the city's decay and corporate corruption to the edge. This episode examines the film's ambition, its controversial moments, and how “RoboCop 2” fits into the legacy of a franchise that blurred the line between law, humanity, and machine. Tune in for production anecdotes, thematic analysis, and a look back at a cult classic that continues to spark conversations about justice, technology, and what it means to be human in a world gone corporate.Where To Watch RoboCop 2

Robocop 2 (1990)Directed By: Irvin KershnerStarring: Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Belinda Bauer, The Old Man returnsHere's a sequel to our best performing episode ever - because you've clearly been clamoring for it and not because we want continued success (if we wanted continued success, why would we talk about Lou Ferrigno movies?). This time Murphy has not only a police strike on his hands, but some shady OCP business is trying to ruin his mojo by scrambling his prime directives and launch a drug addicted upgrade! *From the Desk of Pete* Expectations were pretty low for a sequel that is hated by the masses but after watching the movie I'd like to ask these masses, "Have you actually watched Robocop 2, or are you just repeating what others are saying?" Robocop 2 was a first time watch for Anna and Pete but was such an unexpected homerun that neither of the hosts can explain the distain for the film. Robocop is a masterpiece of action cinema but 2 is a hoot. Think of it like Gremlins and Gremlins 2, very different films that are both incredibly entertaining. Robocop 2 is a strong recommend, just don't take it too seriously.

I am back with Tom to talk about MORE Robocop movies! This time we take a look at the theatrically released sequels and remake. Our prime directive is to analyze all three films and decide which one is the WORST Robocop movie of all time!
This insane sequel upped the violence, the satire, and the nastiness to a dizzying degree, and it still holds up as one of the darkest, strangest Hollywood sequels ever made. Listen in as I discuss the movie with comic book editor Andy Khouri (@andykhouri), who of course has some insights on Robocop 2 screenwriter Frank Miller. Thanks for listening to Overhated! También hay un breve desvío hacia Frank Miller's Robocop (2003), cómic adaptado desde el guión original de Miller para Robocop 2.

Drug addict cyborgs, infant hostages, elderly abuse, kid drug lords, the firebombing of a drug treatment clinic, a violent robbery committed by a pack of boy scouts and their scout leader. When Frank Miller (yes, that Frank Miller) landed the gig writing ROBOCOP 2, it's as though he took it upon himself as a personal challenge to push the savage satirical edge of the first film to it's most extreme form. But how has this initially maligned sequel aged over the years? Is it worthy of a reappraisal? Listen and find out. RoboCop 2 was inevitable after the succcess of the original. And you know what? It could have been much worse. With a more compotent cyborg enemy, some solid comedic moments and Peter Weller being at the top of his game in terms of RoboCop sequels this remains the best case scenario despite some obvious shortcomings.
