« La souveraineté culturelle et intellectuelle à laquelle nous aspirons passe aussi par la reconquête de notre parole propre », a expliqué le président sénégalais Bassirou Diomaye Faye lors du premier grand rendez-vous organisé entre l'État et les acteurs du livre, à Dakar, le 16 octobre. Des initiatives émergent pour donner toute sa place à la lecture en wolof, en pulaar, en sérère et dans les autres langues nationales.    À l'embarcadère direction Gorée, une bibliothèque éphémère intrigue. Plusieurs installations du même genre ont été aperçues pendant quelques jours à Dakar, le temps pour l'État de rapprocher les livres de la population. Khalil, un habitué de la liaison maritime, feuillette des ouvrages en wolof. « Si tu me donnes un livre en wolof, je prends beaucoup de temps pour le lire. C'est parce qu'à l'école, on nous apprend en français ! », explique-t-il. Pas de quoi le décourager pour autant. « À partir d'aujourd'hui, je commence à étudier le wolof, je le jure. Je ne suis pas français, je suis wolof ! Il faut juste s'entraîner un peu », s'amuse-t-il. Le wolof résonne partout au quotidien : à la radio, dans la rue, et dans les foyers. Pourtant peu de Sénégalais le lisent. Ndèye Codou Fall, directrice de EJO, l'une des rares maisons d'édition en langues nationales, se bat pour inverser la tendance : « Il n'y a pas de magie, en ce qui concerne les langues nationales, nous les maîtrisons à l'oral, mais pour pouvoir les lire, il faut les apprendre, il faut alphabétiser les gens dans les langues nationales. Entendons-nous bien, je suis pour le plurilinguisme, mais je suis pour nous réapproprier ce qui nous appartient d'abord, et ensuite aller à la rencontre de l'autre. » Pour Ndèye Codou Fall, le Sénégal a besoin d'un retour à ses langues propres pour avancer. « Le rapport en général que les Sénégalais ont avec le français, c'est un rapport douloureux qui rappelle la honte que le colonisateur a voulu instituer aux Sénégalais en les obligeant à rendre les langues nationales muettes. Je pense que c'est ce rapport que l'on veut effacer aujourd'hui », explique-t-elle. Lui-même auteur de romans publiés en wolof, il parle d'un processus de création plus intime. « Quand on écrit en wolof, effectivement, le personnage que vous mettez en scène devient un complice et il fait corps avec nous. Nous vivons sa vie comme s'il pouvait interagir avec notre propre existence. Je ne ressens pas la même chose quand j'écris en français. La différence est là : [en wolof], je me parle à moi-même et je vis ce que je suis en train d'écrire », raconte-t-il.  Rappelant qu'ils travaillent « pour la nation », les éditeurs spécialisés en langues sénégalaises réclament plus de moyens issus du Fonds d'aide à l'édition. Un fonds géré par le ministère de la Culture pour soutenir la production littéraire. L'État leur a promis un soutien sans en préciser la forme à ce stade. Lisa l'a étudié au lycée.  Cette année, c'est l'année du bac de français pour Lisa. Elle va avoir deux épreuves : une épreuve écrite et une épreuve orale. Leur professeure commence à les préparer pour ces épreuves. C'est la dernière année de français pour les lycéens.
