Tory Tunnell's original dream was to the Editor for Vogue. In college, she interned at places like The New Yorker and Harper's Bizarre, but she minored in Film, which started a trek to working as a Producer. These days, Tunnell is known for Holy Rollers, My Blind Brother, King Arthur - Legend of the Sword, Underground, Robin Hood, Spinning Out, and now Monarch - Legacy of Monsters. The latest series stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Anders Holm, Kiersey Clemons, and Ren Watabe. The plot reads, "Set after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans, revealing that monsters are real, follows one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to Monarch.” In this interview, Tory talks about the mechanism of film both in terms of creativity and commerce, jumping in the deep with little to no experience, how she cold called billionaires, misdirects in any career path, being persistent yet not annoying, sticking with a project until it gets made, and how to actually make money in this business. We also mention Tory's husband and producing partner, Joby Harold, which I interviewed back in Episode 348 for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Misha Green, the showrunner for Underground back in Episode 03. It's finally time to say goodbye to Daniel Craig's James Bond, the longest running Bond in film history, and we really need to ask ourselves a few questions... like, did we really need this movie? Is this incarnation of Bond even Bond? and did this movie actually get postponed so long due to extremely controversial subject matter and obvious predictive programing? We discuss it all this week on the Aroused pod. Also, is everyone just plain wrong about this movie? Today we watched an annoying Nick Kroll film called My Blind Brother, where a woman farcically concedes to dating a disabled guy as a "hilarious" form of penance and self-punishment. Also, we talk about leaving our wheelie comfort zones, what makes a good stoner comedy, bad table manners, and ideas for projecting Tony's voice in busy public spaces. Well this episode got a bit more serious than either of us expected, even though the movie was really great. Some great actors from Parks an and Recreation fame are in our movie this week called My Blind Brother. We explore several of the common blind struggles and tropes in this one. Asking for help is difficult, not knowing the motives of folks around you, dealing with people you love saying things that are just weird, all covered in this one. Also HBO better get its shit together or we will be having a fun episode where we are rude to them. As always share the podcast with a friend, send Jordan proof that you did and he will send you a dollar. LaF is reviewing the new indie comedy My Blind Brother on episode 181 of LaF. My Blind Brother stars Nick Kroll and Adam Scott as two brothers who are in competition with each other over the same girl(Jenny Slate). Will the brothers be able to put aside their differences(like sight) and learn to finally get along, or will a pretty girl ruin it all? In addition to reviewing the film, our hosts also discuss other Nick Kroll films, whether he is the voice of a generation, and why indie movies are able to tell interesting and personal stories in a way Hollywood films are not. Have you seen My Blind Brother? Let LaF know by sending in your review by emailing theLaFpodcast@gmail.com, tweeting @theLaFpodcast, or messaging us at Facebook.com/theLaFpodcast. The best comments will get read on a future show.
Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua re-team and hit the dusty trail in "The Magnificent Seven" so Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and guest Logan Hill saddle up to see if this re-waorking of a classic western is worth moseying down to the old theater for. They also take a look at the hazing drama "Goat" and find some suprising performances and they take a gander at the indie comedy "My Blind Brother." Finally there's the historical drama "Free Star of Jones" starring that actor who drives a Lincoln when he isn't playing naked bongos. So git along little doagie and come to the movies with us!
In this episode Sean & Vito will discuss trailers for the following 4 films: A Dog's Purpose, The Good Neighbor, Mr. Church, and My Blind Brother.
In this episode, we try to see the funny in My Blind Brother, admire the acting and hair of Dev Patel in Lion, root for the underrated Casey Affleck in Manchester By The Sea, and watch a forbidden(ish) romance bloom in A United Kingdom.
