No More Time to Die! As the Lodgecast survived to witness the 25th film in the James Bond series. No Time to Die was originally supposed to come out in April of 2020 but was delayed by the pandemic until October of 2021. We drove to see it at the brand new AMC Porter Ranch 9 for a very special reason relating to Nicole Kidman. Once there we talked all things Bond, and then took in all 163 minutes of Daniel Craig's final outing as 007. This one is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga with a theme song by Billie Eilish. It also stars Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Rory Kinnear, Ralph Fiennes, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, Ana de Armas, David Dencik, and Dali Benssalah.

The latest James Bond film, from director Cary Joji Fukunaga, is a veritable feast of emotion and tone. Along with the requisite jaw-dropping action sequences, the film is chock-full of emotional pathos and tender moments, appropriate for Daniel Craig's sendoff as the titular British super-spy. But also, perhaps surprisingly, some very humorous sequences, as well.  With a running time of over 2 and 1/2 hours, the sound team had their work cut out for them, and on a very tight timeline. So how did they manage to craft such an exciting, yet tender, and often hilarious new Bond film under such tough deadlines? Today we sit down with supervising sound editor Oliver Tarney and re-recording mixers Paul Massey and Mark Taylor to find out exactly that. Did they go back in and make changes after the film was "finished?" After all, the release was delayed substantially due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  "Sometimes on a really focused tight schedule on a big film there's a certain energy about that. And if you had more time, you could explore more, it can become over-polished. Something a little bit sterile can creep in sometimes. I've been on movies that felt like that a little bit. So there is an energy with everyone just going full-tilt, trying to get something done. And there might be a few little rough edges, but that's part of it. It doesn't feel over-produced. Maybe there would be that danger if you opened it up again and just said, 'we've got all this time.' You start maybe just making it a little bit too sanitized or something. I think it's just got a really good energy about it, the film. And I'm glad it finished when it did." — Oliver Tarney, Supervising Sound Editor, "No Time to Die" Be sure to https://www.unitedartistsreleasing.com/007-no-time-to-die/ (check out No Time to Die at a Dolby Cinema near you). Editors - Tom Cross ACE and Elliot Graham ACE NO TIME TO DIE editors, Tom Cross ACE and Elliot Graham ACE combine their collective talents for storytelling and their love for the Bond franchise in director Cary Joji Fukunaga's take on the iconic super agent. NO TIME TO DIE is the twenty-fifth film in the James Bond series. It stars Daniel Craig in his fifth and final outing as fictional British MI6 agent, James Bond.  In this film, Bond, who has left active service with MI6, is recruited by the CIA to find a kidnapped scientist, which leads to a showdown with a powerful adversary. TOM CROSS ACE Editor Tom Cross first really made a name for himself working alongside director Damien Chazelle on their breakout film, WHIPLASH.  Among the many accolades garnered by the film was Cross's Oscar® win for Best Film Editing.  Chazelle and Cross would follow that up with another hit movie, LA LA LAND, for which Cross was again nominated for an Oscar®.  The two would team up yet again for FIRST MAN, a biopic about astronaut Neil Armstrong.  Cross is currently working with Chazelle on the forthcoming film, BABYLON. ELLIOT GRAHAM ACE Editor Elliot Graham wasted no time in making his way into the editor's chair, bypassing the more traveled route of assistant editing.  Graham cut his teeth on a healthy mix of music videos and action movies, punctuated by his work with Oscar®-winning editor John Ottman (BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY) on Bryan Singer's X2: X-MEN UNITED.  Although Elliot would go on to do more action/superhero movies like SUPERMAN RETURNS and CAPTAIN MARVEL, it was his work on MILK, the story of gay rights activist and politician, Harvey Milk that brought Elliott an Oscar® nomination. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and co-written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the 25th entry to the franchise is also the last that will star Daniel Craig as the titular, not-so-secret-identity, super spy. While it can be argued (and will be on this podcast) that Daniel Craig's turn as Bond has been a divergence for the franchise from the start, No Time To Die promises to be something radically different from a film series built around male power fantasies. On tonight's episode of the Talkin' TV podcast, we return, LIVE, for a true cinematic event. People, that's right, we're discussing the return of James Bond, 007 himself, in Daniel Craig's swan song "No Time to Die." The 25th in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It stars Daniel Craig in his fifth and final outing as the fictional British MI6 agent James Bond. It is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga from a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Fukunaga and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Rory Kinnear and Ralph Fiennes reprise their roles from previous films, with Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, Ana de Armas, David Dencik and Dali Benssalah also starring. In this film, Bond, who has left active service with MI6, is recruited by the CIA to rescue a kidnapped scientist, which leads to a showdown with a powerful adversary. Development began in 2016. It is the first Bond film distributed by Universal Pictures, which acquired the international distribution rights following the expiration of Sony Pictures' contract after the release of Spectre in 2015. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer subsidiary United Artists Releasing holds the rights for North America, as well as worldwide digital and television rights; Universal also holds the worldwide rights for physical home media. Danny Boyle was originally attached to direct and co-write the screenplay with John Hodge. Both left due to creative differences in August 2018, and Fukunaga was announced as Boyle's replacement a month later. Most of the cast had signed on by April 2019. In this episode, Ruthie and Cary talk about the Japanese and Swedish food he grew up with, eating spiders in Cambodia, and his favourite River Cafe recipe that reminds him of a dramatic crime scene.  For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home.   On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks.  Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe's open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. No Time To Die is Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond. This time, he's dealing with the skeletons of his past while trying to build himself a future. That future may or may not include Léa Seydoux, who returns as Madeleine Swann — she's nursing a secret involving Rami Malek's Safin, who's a kind of classic Bond villain, factory-installed with a master plan, a secret headquarters and access to a terrible bioweapon. The film is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and add newcomers Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas to join in on the action.

This is my review of No Time To Die. First half is spoiler free, second half gets into spoilers (with a fair warning beforehand). When Daniel Craig was announced as the sixth James Bond, the media had a field day. He wasn't tall enough, good looking enough, lackluster, underwhelming, a "Blond Bond?" Rubbish. In the mind of a vocal minority that was blown way out of proportion, Craig did not fit the traditional stereotype of what a Bond actor should look like and took a thrashing for it. Nevertheless, he held his head high because he knew the work they were doing on "Casino Royale" was something special and would immediately shut down the naysayers. Sure enough, it did and that was the first time Daniel Craig subverted the Bond expectations. Perhaps it's therefore fitting that the man who was unlike anyone who came before would go on to continue reinventing and revitalizing the almost 60-year-old franchise culminating in the most Ian Fleming, yet least traditional Bond film"No Time To Die." Over five movies and fifteen years, Daniel Craig pushed the boundaries of not just what a James Bond movie should be, but what it can be. He proved to a world inundated with cheap, monotonous looking blockbusters that you can recruit people like Sam Mendes, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Roger Deakins, Javier Bardem, Naomi Harris, Lea Seydoux, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Hans Zimmer, and countless others - the best artists in the world - to make these films. To prove that while not every film is guaranteed to be a "Skyfall" or "Casino Royale," you shouldn't settle for anything less than the very best. Blockbuster cinema can be prestige cinema if you try. With each of his five films, Craig, and to their credit EON Productions, helped bolster the artistic value that all modern blockbusters should have. Die" picks up after the events of "Spectre" with Bond and Madeline (Lea Seydoux) living in tranquility before it's all uprooted. Five years later, living peacefully in retirement, Bond is thrust back into the world of international espionage after his friend and colleague Felix Leiter (Wright) calls for his aid. While so much care is put into physically crafting these films, what separates Craig's tenure from the rest is the equal amount of care that goes into character and story. It wasn't always the plan to make each of Craig's five films interconnected, but as the series progressed, it felt inescapable to ignore the natural progression of the character. In so doing, Craig managed to get to the heart of Ian Fleming's iconic superspy mining the psychology of the character, comprehending the prose in Fleming's words, and having a fearless vision that says, within the trappings of a Bond movie, anything is possible, and it shouldn't be beholden to the exact same things that have come before. The way Craig interrogated the character and made bold choices that serviced his arc as a human being, thrusting him into our world, whether popular or not, is what resonates. see the status quo challenged, the changing landscape of our world represented on screen and the different ways in which we as humans choose to engage with it. These stories and these characters allow us as audience members to learn and grow from their experiences because we know and understand them. We trust them as Wright puts it.
