Joined today by the former Light Heavyweight Champion, Sergei "The Krusher" Kovalev. Sergei rants about his broken iPhone, what he was doing in NYC and the food he misses most from Russia. The Champ then talks about his love for hockey, starting his son playing at a young age, his son's talents and why he thinks his son is gravitating more towards soccer. We chat about why Sergei started boxing at the age of 11, what he loved about the sweet science, and what motivated him to turn pro after over 200 amateur fights. He tells us about his non-stop early boxing schedule, why he almost quit boxing after an opponent passed away after a fight with the Krusher, and that life-changing moment in Wales when he beat Nathan Cleverly to win the world title. We hear about the after party, how he made his fights look so easy and his training schedule. Sergei talks about unifying the titles in his epic fight with Bernard Hopkins, his rocket ship to stardom, being the Ring magazine fighter of the year and what drove him to stay hungry and motivated. Sergei opens up about his controversial loss to Andre Ward, how the second loss really opened his eyes to eating healthy and why he doesn't respect Ward for retiring instead of giving him what the fans wanted, a 3rd fight. We discuss him finally getting to fight in front of his home fans in Russia against Anthony Yarde, how emotional that fight was and the hurdles that went through booking it. I question the Champ about why he took the Canelo fight only TWO months after the Yarde fight and Sergei explains all the behind the scenes nonsense he had to deal with to get that fight. We talk about moving up to cruiserweight, beating the undefeated Pulev, and when we can expect to see him next in the ring. We hear why he doesnt watch TV, the last celebrity he took a photo with and when he is able to buy a new phone. All this with the former Champ!!

Tony Oakey is one of Britain's most-popular light-heavyweight champions. Adored by his Portsmouth fans, he took part in multiple thrilling battles but he also hit the headlines for the wrong reasons when he was suspended after a positive cocaine test following the first loss of his career. A dark period followed but when he returned to the ring, the decorated three-time ABA finallist and two-time winner was involved in more wars. He fought the likes of Dean Francis, Nathan Cleverly, Peter Haymer, Brian Magee, Steve Spartacus, Matthew Barney, Neil Simpson, rival Neil Linford and many more. There were fights after the final bell of his pro career against friend Wayne Elcock and two well-documented contests with American Jeff Lacy. Here, Oakey reflects on his career, the night Peter Oboh – the most-feared man in British boxing at the time – left the arena without facing him, the wins, the losses and much more. Tony Bellew recalls his thrilling, gruelling win at the Echo Arena in his grudge re-match against Nathan Cleverly
The Gennady Golovkin vs David Lemieux Pay-Per-View is done. We're just waiting on sales numbers, which will be manipulated accordingly. But it sure felt like an important event. Basically Golovkin bludgeoned the daylights out of Lemieux at Madison Square Garden. In the co-feature, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez showed exactly why he's considered the best fighter in the world by many, methodically breaking down Brian Viloria over nine rounds, retaining the flyweight title. The undercard featured Luis Ortiz taking out Matias Vidondo, and Tureano Johnson out-classing Eamonn O'Kane. We'll get to that stuff. In a Premier Boxing Champions main event on NBC, Lamont Peterson barely got by Felix Diaz Jr, while Terrel Williams upset Prichard Colon by DQ in a strange and now potentially tragic fight. (Prichard Colon remains in a coma as of posting - thoughts, prayers welcome.) A different PBC card on Spike brought action, with Andrzej Fonfara defeating Nathan Cleverly in the main event, and Kohei Kono beat Koki Kameda in the co-feature. It was fun, damnit. On HBO this coming weekend, Terence Crawford faces Dierry Jean. Cool. There's other news... Kell Brook injured, Antonio Tarver testing positive again, Sergey Kovalev vs Jean Pascal II, Andre Ward's return. James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor are on it. Thanks for tuning in!

They also dare to discuss the possibility of Floyd Mayweather being next for the Filipino. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.

Despite usual curmudgeonry (nobody that WE know), boxing is threatening to make good on its promise -- NAY -- its loose, non-binding, un-notarized agreement to end the year strong. Good fights are coming from surprising places, even. Heavyweights, if you can believe it. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor welcome BWAA member and author Brin-Jonathan Butler to run the gauntlet. Who knows where the wind will take us? Butler's interview with Mike Tyson? Wladimir Klitschko's fun KO of Kubrat Pulev? An HBO Latino card (Remember those?)? Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri... and Avocados? THE PPV UNDERCARD??????? We may even throw soome Nathan Cleverly vs Tony Bellew II in there. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: Reuters)

ALL the talk centres around Sergey Kovalev’s bid to halt Bernard Hopkins before he reaches 50. Tris Dixon and Matt Christie attempt to answer some pertinent questions: What must each fighter do to win? What is the best result for the sport of boxing? How would a loss affect Bernard Hopkins’ legacy? Also discussed is Chris Eubank Jnr’s failure to report for duty at the press conference to promote his fight with Billy Joe Saunders, and we also look ahead to Nathan Cleverly’s return with Tony Bellew and ponder if the Welshman has truly recovered from his loss to Kovalev. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.
Ed Draper is joined by Spencer Fearon with exclusive interviews from Tony Bellew, Nathan Cleverly, Martin Murray, Andy Lee and many more.
George Groves returns to the ring this weekend in a European title fight against Christopher Rebrasse. Steve Bunce discusses that and Paul Smith's fight against Arthur Abraham. Plus he looks ahead to Billy Joe Saunders v Chris Eubank Jr and Tony Bellew v Nathan Cleverly.
ERISLANDY LARA screamed robbery while Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez celebrated victory. Tris Dixon and Matt Christie of Boxing News discuss the bout and ponder what’s next, and if the controversy was justified. Floyd Mayweather has announced he will fight Marcos Maidana again. Good news or bad? Also up for discussion is the burgeoning grudges between Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly, and Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora. Are the theatrics necessary to sell a fight? Guillermo Rogondeaux’s latest adventure is previewed alongside the progress of Zou Shimming. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.
TRIS DIXON is joined by Matt Christie and their first job is to review a hectic weekend of action. Old man Juan Manuel Marquez rolled back the years, while Nathan Cleverly returned to winning ways under the glare of rival Tony Bellew. Gavin Rees signed off in style and Travis Dickinson and Matty Clarkson unleashed a slugfest for the ages. They discuss Floyd Mayweather’s next fight, Manny Pacquiao’s latest announcement and, of course, look ahead to the impending Carl Froch-George Groves rematch. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.
If the last weekend is what we get for underselling it last week, then perhaps we should start doing that more often. For a low key weekend, James Foley of BadLeftHook.com and Patrick Connor of Queensberry-Rules.com sure have a lot to recap and talk about: the fun scrap between Darren Barker and Daniel Geale, Sergey Kovalev's stoppage win over Nathan Cleverly, an excellent Friday Night Fights card on ESPN2, and so on. And in returning to the guest format, TQBR Radio welcomes BoxingScene.com writer and TBRB chair Cliff Rold. Thanks for tuning in!

Thanks for tuning in!
