Send us a textA powerful convergence of art and advocacy unfolds in this episode of Queer Voices as two transformative leaders share their visions for Houston's LGBTQ+ community.Pulitzer Prize finalist Lisa DeMoore invites listeners into her boundary-defying theatrical world, where traditional storytelling meets immersive art installation. Her fourth collaboration with Catastrophic Theater, "The Frozen Section," imagines a surreal post-apocalyptic grocery store where survivors maintain humanity through collective performance. "We meet the people who are the workers and the people who are the shoppers," DeMoore explains, revealing how this strange microcosm explores community resilience when societal structures collapse. The playwright's description of her previous work—including a six-hour installation where audiences witnessed a fabric forest appear and vanish—showcases her unique approach to creating theater that functions as both poetry and social commentary.Meanwhile, Montrose Center CEO Avery Belyeu reflects on her first year leading Houston's largest LGBTQ+ resource hub during increasingly challenging political times. With previous leadership roles at Lambda Legal and The Trevor Project, Bellew brings both professional expertise and personal perspective as a transgender woman navigating the current landscape. Her vision for the Center emphasizes community connection as the ultimate solution to political scapegoating and potential funding threats. "I think that's where it's so important for all of us to make sure we're taking care of ourselves," Bellew advises, highlighting the Center's comprehensive services for 55,000 annual clients across all age groups—from youth programming to senior housing. The conversation weaves between artistic expression and practical advocacy as both guests demonstrate how Houston's queer community creates resilience through creativity, connection, and care. Whether through DeMoore's surreal theatrical worlds or the Montrose Center's tangible support services, this episode reveals how LGBTQ+ Houstonians continue building futures despite uncertainty.Don't miss "The Frozen Section" running March 28-April 19 at The Match, and mark your calendars for the Montrose Center's circus-themed "Empowering Our Future" gala on April 26, where you can directly support vital youth services while celebrating community joy.Queer Voices airs in Houston Texas on 90.1FM KPFT and is heard as a podcast here. In the upcoming episode of The Rumors Are True podcast, Jeff Bellew, a key figure in the Christian punk and hardcore music scenes, will be the featured guest. Known primarily for his work as a guitarist with legendary bands like The Crucified and Stavesacre, Bellew has made a significant impact on both underground music and alternative faith-based movements. Bellew's history is deeply rooted in the early hardcore punk scene of the 1980s. The Crucified, one of the pioneering Christian punk bands, challenged the status quo by blending aggressive, fast-paced music with messages of faith, rebellion, and introspection. Bellew joined the band after their early releases and contributed to their breakthrough album The Pillars of Humanity (1991), which gained both critical and cult status for its raw energy and message. After The Crucified disbanded, Bellew joined Stavesacre, a post-hardcore band that further pushed the boundaries of Christian rock. Known for a heavier, more melodic sound, Stavesacre gained a loyal following in the 90s and early 2000s with their introspective lyrics and atmospheric music. During his appearance on The Rumors Are True, Bellew will likely explore his musical journey—how he moved from the rawness of The Crucified to the more complex sounds of Stavesacre. He may also discuss how faith influenced his career, what it was like to be part of the Christian punk scene, and share stories from decades of performing, writing, and being part of groundbreaking bands. Expect a blend of personal reflections, behind-the-scenes moments, and insights into the lasting legacy of his work. In this episode, we are joined by two-weight world champion David Haye. He's one of only three men - with Evander Holyfield and Oleksandr Usyk - to have won world titles at both cruiserweight and heavyweight. After becoming the first Brit to reach a world amateur final, David turned pro and quickly became known for punching power, as illustrated when he stopped both Jean-Marc Mormeck and Enzo Maccarinelli to become the unified cruiserweight world champion. He then moved up to heavyweight where, despite conceding 7 stone in weight, he beat the giant 7ft-plus Russian Nikolay Valuev to become the WBA champion. Eventually, he faced Wladimir Klitschko in a unification bout but he was soundly beaten and his post-fight excuse of a broken little toe severely damaged his standing among fight fans. Thereafter, came controversy and frustration: a much-publicised brawl with Derek Chisora in Germany led to a contest between the pair where David was victorious. But, a highly anticipated fight with Tyson Fury fell through as David suffered injuries that would keep him out of the ring for a long time. He eventually returned and fought Tony Bellew twice before retiring following his defeat in their rematch.Despite his success, David has been a sometimes divisive figure with the boxing public. Here, he tackles everything: becoming a two-weight world champion, his defeats to Klitschko and Bellew, why he made some of his controversial statements, and he gives his thoughts on Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. He also explains why Saudi Arabia's takeover is good for boxing and tantalisingly, he reveals whether his career may not yet be over.Subscribe for future episodes and head to http://www.youtube.com/@UpFrontWithSimonJordan for full video episodes. 18+ please gamble responsibly.Warning: this episode contains language that some people may find offensive.

Episode Notes Airbnb is looking to further incorporate artificial intelligence into its business. And on Tuesday, it announced it has acquired GamePlanner.AI, a company founded by a creator of Siri, writes Travel Technology Reporter Justin Dawes. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said his company has been rebuilding its app with a focus on AI, and that the GamePlanner.AI team will focus on accelerating certain projects. Airbnb recently unveiled a new AI-powered photo tour tool for hosts. Airbnb didn't reveal the acquisition price, but a CNBC report valued the deal at close to $200 million. Next, the chief operating officer of Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia's new airline, believes it can take advantage of the growing travel demand in the kingdom. But the company isn't looking to compete with Emirates to be a global hub, writes Middle East Reporter Josh Corder. Riyadh Air Chief Operating Officer Peter Bellew told Skift the airline's main goal is to make going from point-to-point easier for travelers. He added he doesn't see Riyadh Air, which is scheduled to launch in the middle of 2025, becoming a super connector. Riyadh Air hopes to fly to more than 100 destinations by the end of the decade. Meanwhile, Corder reports Riyadh Air hasn't announced any orders at the ongoing Dubai Airshow. Bellew said the company is primarily focused on recruiting staff at the moment. Finally, travelers haven't been booking trips to Turkey in large numbers recently, writes Global Tourism Reporter Dawit Habtemariam. Several tour operator executives said they've seen bookings for Turkish trips dry up. Kelly Torrens, Kensington Tours' vice president of product, said many travelers don't feel comfortable traveling in the region despite Turkey not being near the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jacada Travel founder Alex Malcolm said he's had to explain the situation to travelers to make them feel comfortable about traveling in Turkey. G Adventures Vice President Yves Marceau said if bookings continue to remain weak, tour operators will have to trim their inventory in Turkey.

Katreana, an NYU dramatic writing student, is the daughter of John Bellew, an FDNY Lt. who responded to the Black Sunday 2005 fire at an apartment building on East 178th Street. Six firefighters on the fourth floor were trapped when the fire flashed through the door of the apartment, unable to find a fire escape, they jumped from the windows. Two unfortunately died in the fall: Lt. John G. Bellew and Lt. Curtis W. Meyran. The other four, Brendan Cawley, Jeff Cool, Joe DiBernardo, and Gene Stolowski, were severely injured and disabled and had to retire. Joe DiBernardo died six years later; he had been promoted to lieutenant in May 2005 and John Bellew received a posthumous promotion. Katreana has written a 100 page screenplay about the Bronx fire and is trying to turn it into a movie. Her story dives into that day, the legal proceedings that followed and includes points of view from her mother and a firefighter who survived.
