We chat about his Philly roots and relocating to Pittsburgh, what he misses most and why it's ok to switch allegiances to the Steelers. We go over his life outside of the ring, hobbies, such as his love for art, developing his comic books, and how he ended up joining the United States NAVY. Steve tells us about his time in the NAVY, how boxing came into the picture and how he was learning the ins and outs of the sweet science as he climbed the ranks. We discuss why he chose to go pro instead of going the Olympic route. He reminisces his intense first 12 fight schedule and how signing with Don King wasn't his favorite decision he made. We hear about winning the Cruiserweight belt after his controversial 1st loss, why many of his fights took place in Europe and why wasn't he promoted much after the 9/11 attacks. We learn about being on the undercard of Mayweather / McGregor, how his phone blew up after Tyson Fury said on Joe Rogan that Steve was the hardest hitter he's ever faced, and when he knew it was time to hang up the gloves. From wanting to fight at Wembley stadium to the mental hurdles boxing entails, it was an enjoyable conversation with USS.   Check out his site here where you can follow his son's journey to the title, as well as purchase his comics: https://www.instagram.com/ussislegend/?hl=en

The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

Emotional isolation affects everyone, young and old alike. It goes behind loneliness and influences mental health. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States. An immensely significant number. Suicide crosses age groups from youth to the elderly. We are in need of tools and resources to prevent suicide. In 2020 there were almost 46,000 deaths by suicide and almost 1.2 million suicide attempts reported. The risk of suicide increases with a diagnosis of mental illness such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, drug addiction, schizophrenia, and others. Emotional isolation is also a risk factor. Anxiety and depression often cause emotional isolation, and the breakdown of relationships, and result in suicide attempts. In the US 40 million adults, 19.1% of the population have generalized anxiety disorder. In addition, 8.4%, or 21 million people have depression. Many times anxiety and depression go hand in hand. Reference for statistics. How can we improve quality of life and reduce the incidence of emotional isolation? Steve Cunningham has created a solution, WeTree. The survey that initiated the search for a solution to end emotional isolation As the founder of Read It For Me, Steve conducted a survey of his users and how they were using the tool to learn and grow. He discovered that every person that took the survey mentioned dealing with fear and anxiety or disclosed that they'd been dealing with depression for a very long time. As the prevalence of anxiety and depression increased throughout the pandemic, Steve decided he needed to do something to help people be comfortable about sharing emotional and mental health struggles. As Steve did research on mental health, he discovered that everything came back to emotional isolation, also known as loneliness. Interestingly, most people don't consider themselves lonely. However, when you ask them if they have someone to discuss personal and important subjects with, they say no. Most people do not have anyone to talk to when they are dealing with challenges, or when they have something good to share. Ultimately, emotional isolation is the cause of drug addiction, the lack of people to talk to. Read the full blog post and access all links.

Ep. 64 How are you really? As a therapist, at the start of a session, I will ask a client how they are doing 3-4 different ways. Why? Because we are socially conditioned to provide a stock response, and I must work actively to bypass that response and cause them to reflect on their week and check-in with their emotional and physical state. Because of this social conditioning, as well as stigma around mental health, it is easy to feel emotionally isolated. If you want to learn a new tool to stop emotional isolation, then stick around. Because in this episode of the Mental Health Toolbox, we are talking with Steve Cunningham and Lorenzo Gomez, owners and founders of a new mental health app called WeTree. As you might have noticed, there have been a lot of mental health apps on the rise to aid us in tracking our moods and practice ways to be more mindful and present. This week, we talk to another manager who has had a season he will never forget. After being relieved of his duties at his last club in October he then found himself appointed at his current club only days before a huge FA Cup game. From there it's been all on the up. Currently, top of the Northern Premier League he leads his Buxton side into two games this Easter weekend including a big local derby on Monday, knowing that two wins may not even be enough to stop the title decision going down to the final game of the season. Steve Cunningham is philosophical and taking one game at a time and looking forward to the challenge.  Next up a man who had planned the Manx assault on English football for years but didn't expect it to move so swiftly or so successfully. Steve Burns once coached the Isle of Man National side, he's now got a slightly different role overseeing the media plans and output of the club and he's as successful off the field as the side are on it. This weekend it's the play-off final as the club aim to convert their second-placed finish into promotion from Step 6 to Step 5. Rounding off the show is Matt Badcock, Editor at Large at The Non League Paper on the move for some of the big stories this week and over the weekend as he plans the Easter issue of Nonleague's favourite read.

What You'll Learn From This Episode: Knowing the advantage of using Growitfor.me and Readitfor.me The mistake of over complicating things Applying the 'power positioning' Related Links and Resources: Steve's team will be launching 'growitforme.learn' where they will package up 3 new summaries per week, specifically on sales, marketing, and product development. These are mostly the 3 things that you need to master in order to succeed. Also, the step-by-step process that Steve use from having a job to creating a product-based business with world-class conversion rates and an army of affiliates who's promoting his products. They will launch this plan for a $199/year. Go to www.growitfor.me/scaleology and they'll get their first year for FREE. Summary: Steve Cunningham is the founder of Readitfor.me, the #1 book summary service for busy business leaders, and Growitfor.me, the #1 marketing platform for solopreneurs.  At the beginning of his career, he was a lawyer for exactly one week, and he now has a product based business that has grown almost exclusively through partner and affiliate marketing. In between, he's run a digital marketing agency, been mentored by billionaire entrepreneurs, read a book a day for several years straight, and created a $5,000/hr coaching practice. He's most passionate about the idea that "everybody is an entrepreneur now,' and helping people climb what he calls the Growpreneur Curve. Here are the highlights of this episode: He has two distinct products that caters 2 different target markets. The Readitfor.me, it's for growth-minded business leaders, and for Growthitfor.me it's for B2B service providers like coaches and consultants, etc. The Growitfor.me, they try to solve problems for specific sets of people. It can help solopreneurs generate leads, nurture those leads with valuable content, then creating services or products that can help them create passive and recurring revenue. For Readitfor.me is knowing what the top world business experts are teaching or publishing. He says that these people face the frustration of perhaps that stack of books that they haven't started to read or courses they purchased but never use due to lack of time, or really not doing the things that they really wanted to do. He sees that these folks are sometimes complicate things and because of this, nothing ever really gets executed. The two books that he says that you should check out would be "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries and "Principles" by Ray Dalio. Steve's Valuable Free Action (VFA): Steve advised us to be crystal clear on the specific and pressing problems that you solve. Get 10 people that are in your ideal customer profile, get them on a zoom call, have a one-on-one meeting. Walk them through on what Steve calls 'power positioning'. When you get 8 out of 10 people nodding their heads while you're talking, that's your que that you nailed it. That's when you move on in creating that product, service, or marketing that goes along with it.

Cunningham headed a digital marketing agency until 2016 and provided book summaries at first as a side project. The Canadian native launched his San Antonio-based startup in July 2017 after noticing how many marketing vice presidents and business owners he'd meet lacked time to read the business books in their offices. Read It For Me has thousands of global members, from solo entrepreneurs to smaller businesses and Fortune 500 companies. In this episode, Steve shares how the world's most successful leaders master their career and identify the specific skills critically important to their success and methodically learn them from the best experts. Check out these episode highlights: 01:28 – Steve's ideal client: somebody who has for a long time trying to get their team and their people to learn and have a tough time doing it. The conversation goes something like, "I wish I could get my people to run as I do" and they and people say, "I'm too busy and I don't have enough time". And the leader says, "Well you must not be motivated enough to get better at that". So that's kind of conversation going on in the head of our ideal client. 02:03 – Problem he helps solve: We help our clients turn knowledge into action and results. And really help their team go from not being a learner to being somebody who actually puts into practice what they're learning. 02:32 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Steve: Some of the symptoms are you assign a book to somebody on your team with promises that they'll read it and they'll show up to the next meeting not having read it. . 04:30 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: trying to solve the problem of turning to learn into action through more information. And more information out is almost never the answer. 05:19 – Steve's Valuable Free Action(VFA):Get acquainted with the principles of adult learning. So, we forget that we're asking adults to learn and adults learn differently than children. 07:06 – Steve's Valuable Free Resource(VFR): readitfor.me/mtii 07:26 – Q:"What was your favorite book?" A: I would just pick up any good book on adult learning and really get immersed yourself in those principles.
