POPULARITY
This week's guests are 2023 Irish Elite champ, Shauna O'Keeffe, who makes her pro debut at London's York Hall on December 8, and her trainer/co-manager Kevin Mitchell. ‘The Hammer' was one of Britain's most popular boxers in the last two decades, racking up 39 wins and taking part in famous showdowns against the likes of John Murray, Michael Katsidis, Ricky Burns and Jorge Linares. He's been there, done that, and reckons Clonmel's Shauna can go one better than him and win a world title having been massively impressed with her since she made the switch to the UK during the summer. In the amateurs, she fought them all, going in against Katie Taylor, Kellie Harrington and Amy Broadhurst, while outside the ropes she's battled an eating disorder and come out with her hand raised. Shauna discusses those days in the vest, why she stopped boxing from 2017-2023, her comeback, pro dreams, body dysmorphia and her own ambitions for a homecoming. We also look ahead to Taylor's rematch with Chantelle Cameron on Saturday night, with analysis from Mitchell and O'Keeffe on where the Irish hero can improve to gain revenge over her rival. Tipp already has a world beater in Rachael Blackmore and they'd better start unpacking the red carpet for another as she's targeted a bout at Semple Stadium as the ultimate goal. Hosted on Acast. DJ Godfather (Brian Jeffries) is one of the founding fathers of the Detroit Ghettotech scene. Godfather started DJing at the age of 15 and within a few months was already playing in clubs and after-hour parties across the Motor City. By the age of 17 DJ Godfather had started making music and a year later, released his first solo record on Twilight 76 (the label he started with DJ Dick and Brian Gillespie). The creation of other labels followed, including the influential Databass, which he revived in 2018. With a career spanning nearly 3 decades, Godfather continues to deliver the goods as well as supporting new Detroit talent, as his Godfather moniker implies. Last year Godfather dropped his 'Electro Beats For Freaks' 44 track bombshell, well, he's back, this time with a brand new 46 track 'This Detroit Thing Of Ours' album, featuring singles and collaborations with some of the very best in the business. The album features 46 tracks and like his last album, they segue into one another, until the series of EPs on vinyl (and digital) which will follow featuring full length versions and different mixes of some of the album's tracks. DJ Godfather (Brian Jeffries) is one of the founding fathers of the Detroit Ghetto Tech scene, but has gone on to be so much more over a career that spans almost 3 decades. For those wanting an insight into Ghetto Tech, head to track 38, 'It's Ghetto Tech' featuring Dan Diamond which draws a line under the many questions posed to Godfather over the years about the genre. The album also includes three scratch tracks, '1200's Are Lit', 'Table Terrorist' and the even more aptly named 'Assassin On The Decks' as this king of turntablism keeps the culture alive. The album throws up even more variety with Electro, Techno and House beats making an appearance alongside collaborations with DJ Deeon, Goodmoney G100, King Saaidi, Gettoblaster & Missy, Lil Mz 313, Ricky Burns, JPE, Parkhouse and Dan Diamond. Andy Scott is joined by Shannon Briggs, Ricky Burns and Barry Jones to talk about Josh Taylor being crowned undisputed champ plus round up all the latest news.
Today Episode is about Anthony 'Million Dolla' Crolla, who is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2006 to 2019. He held the WBA lightweight title from 2015 to 2016, and challenged once for the unified WBA and WBO lightweight titles in 2019. At regional level, he held the British lightweight title from 2011 to 2012. The life story of Crolla is about hard work and determination, Crolla went from being upset in his 9th bout to a journeyman, but came back and beat him. He then lost to Gary Sykes in 2009 and came back from that to win the British lightweight title in 2011. He lost that title to Derry Matthews in 2012, and then lost to Sykes again in the Prizefighter tournament, also in 2012. He drew with Mathews in a 2013 rematch. In short, Crolla was really not supposed to reach the big stages. But he did. And he reached his biggest stages after major injuries suffered outside the ring, as he was left with a fractured skull and broken ankle when confronting burglars in Dec. 2014. He always just kept fighting and never gave up instead pushed on and went on to fight the biggest names in the lightweight division in Jorge Linares and Lomachenko but also beat former world champs in Ricky Burns and Gavin Rees. Crolla really lived his dream, he went from fighting on undercards to headlining his own venues and selling out crowds in the Manchester Arena, time and time again becoming a much supported fighter who fans, specially the mancunians growed to love, chanting his name everytime he made a ring walk and lighting up the atmosphere in the arenas everytime he fought. He really became a Manchester sporting legend, specially on the night when he silenced the doubters and critics and completed his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion.

Super Scot Alex Arthur won British, Commonwealth, European and world honours but his career didn't reach the heights he had hoped. Arthur now trains his sons but here talks about his dramatic battles with the scales, with Michael Gomez and with retirement – as well as his friendship with Scott Harrison – as he reflects on the wonderful highs and dramatic lows.

Many regard Kevin Mitchell as one of the best British fighters to never win a world title. In his storied career, he fought the likes of Jorge Linares, Breidis Prescott, Michael Katsidis, John Murray and Ricky Burns. Mitchell was known as a hard fighter and a hard liver. He was a boxer who sold tickets in pubs, and drank in the pubs where he sold tickets. His story is in part about missed opportunities, a fight with alcohol and inner demons and a failure to get the best out of himself, something he openly admits to. But he was still a terrific fighter. He shared British Fights of the Year with Carl Johanneson and John Murray, turned pro after a decorated amateur career culminating in an ABA title and retired after one last title run which came in arguably the performance of his career, against the wonderful Linares. Now, in the wake of the passing of his brother Vinny, he's a trainer of young fighters, and he's not only hoping to pass his skills down, he's hoping to share the harsh lessons he's learned.
We're joined by a special co-host in WBC International Silver champion Ross Murray. We preview this weekend's Frank Warren card in London featuring Jordan McCorry v Archie Sharp and Willy Hutchinson. Manchester idol Anthony Crolla was just weeks away from his first world title fight when he saw his neighbours being burgled. Crolla went to help and wound up with a fractured skull and a fractured ankle and his world title dreams were shattered. The incident made the news everywhere. But one of boxing's good guys would not be denied. His superb career saw him capture the WBA lightweight title and he's been in numerous high profile fights, against the likes of Derry Mathews, Kieran Farrell, Gavin Rees, Jorge Linares, Ricky Burns and many more. Now he wants to fight the best boxer in the world, Vasyl Lomachenko. This is the brilliant Anthony Crolla and his incredible story.

Shane Mosley talks to Boxing City Radio immediately after the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight and we go over Canelo Alvarez's TKO over James Kirkland, Omar Figueroa's victory over Ricky Burns and Gennady Golovkin's upcoming fight vs. Willie Monroe Jr.
Did we need that, or did we NEED that? Following a monumental letdown of a megafight in Mayweather-Pacquiao, boxing fans needed a nice weekend of boxing to recharge, and we got it. There were negatives to focus on -- like another fantastically inept failure by Texas referee Laurence Cole -- but it was mostly fun. This week on the newly-reworked Top Men Boxing Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and boxing writer/historian Patrick Connor welcome back to the show Kelsey McCarson of Bleacher Report, The Sweet Science and The Boxing Channel. The topics? All things boxing. But more specifically, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's destruction of James Kirkland, a recap of the #PBConCBS card that featured Omar Figueroa vs Ricky Burns and Jamie McDonnell vs Tomoki Kameda, and a preview of the upcoming HBO card featuring Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr and Roman Gonzalez vs Edgar Sosa. That's a lot of good stuff. Don't miss it. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: Will Hart)
Did everyone make it out okay? Floyd Mayweather's win over Manny Pacquiao was an ordeal, to be sure, but it's over. We got through it with what should amount to minimal scarring. The public? We'll see. But this week on the show, we hope to get a new perspective as James Foley of Bad Left Hook and boxing writer and historian Patrick Connor welcome author Jonathan Snowden of Bleacher Report. Apart from a comprehensive analysis, satire and total decimation of Mayweather-Pacquiao (it's a must, c'mon), expect a preview of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs James Kirkland on HBO, Omar Figueroa vs Ricky Burns in another PBC on CBS show, and appropriate accoutrement. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos: John Locher/AP)

RICKY BURNS lost for the second time in a row in Glasgow and his career is in tatters. Boxing News’ Matt Christie and John Dennen discuss the Scotsman’s future. There was also a crisis for Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa when he lost to Terrence Crawford in Nebraska. Is it the end for Gamboa and has Crawford proved he’s a viable opponent for Manny Pacquiao? There’s also time to look back on the career of the legendary Evander Holyfield, who retired this week at the age of 51. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.
VASYL LOMACHENKO won a world title in just his third fight at the weekend. Matt Christie and John Dennen discuss if the Ukrainian is destined for greatness, or if his jump to world class might ultimately backfire. The progress of Martin Murray is also discussed and the pair preview the impending Glasgow bill, that features Ricky Burns’ return, and the fascinating clash between Terrence Crawford and Yuriorkis Gamboa in Nebraska. There’s also some heavyweight chat as the comeback of David Haye, and the Tyson Fury-Dereck Chisora rematch, are up for debate. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.
Ed Draper is joined as always by Spencer Fearon with exclusive interviews from Amir Khan, Ricky Burns, Anthony Joshua and many more.
TRIS DIXON and Matt Christie discuss a busy week in boxing. The duo look ahead to Saul Alvarez’s comeback against Alfredo Angulo this weekend, and analyse the early mind games from Carl Froch-George Groves II. Floyd Mayweather has thrown Amir Khan another bone, and James DeGale’s chances of fighting for the WBC super-middleweight title are explained. There was big weekend to reflect upon, including Vasyl Lomachenko’s loss to Orlando Salido and Ricky Burns’ convincing defeat to Terence Crawford. No politics, just boxing. Get involved.
THERE’S a lot for Tris Dixon and Matt Christie to discuss this week. The impending showdown between Ricky Burns and Terence Crawford is previewed, as is Vasyl Lomachenko’s attempt to win a world title in his second fight. They look back on the Curtis Woodhouse fairytale and ponder how far Chris Eubank Jnr can go. There is also the small matter of Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana to talk about, and they attempt to explain why the WBC rank Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr at number one in their super-middleweight rankings.
