In this episode of The Procuretech Podcast, host James Meads is joined by Simon Geale, VP of Procurement at leading UK-based consultancy Proxima. This is a fireside chat-style episode about the latest trends in procurement technology. Simon talks about his background and role at Proxima, and the company's focus on serving large enterprise clients with complex procurement problems. They also touch on Proxima's acquisition by Bain and its potential impact. Tune in to hear their insights on how technology is shaping the future of procurement. Digital procurement: ongoing developments and trends In this episode, the exploration of generative AI's role in procurement tasks reveals a perception gap between its potential and the value offered by traditional providers. Despite acknowledging generative AI's capabilities in vendor discovery and strategy development, the episode highlights some of its potential ineffectiveness if not used properly. The discussion raises questions about software vendors being able to adapt to this gap, and also touches on the democratisation of tools like ChatGPT and its role in automating procurement tasks. We discuss the continued flourishing of digital procurement startups, which significantly expand technology options for digitisation and innovation in our profession. Emphasising the importance of realistic expectations, the episode underscores the evolving landscape where innovation is not solely dependent on budgets, and it concludes by urging effective communication about AI capabilities and limitations, in a world where the belief in the omnipotence of systems persists. Is it possible to lead with vulnerability and authenticity while maintaining a strong, commercial approach? Our guest, Alison Geale, CEO of Bravehearts, says "Yes." Transitioning from the media sector to a non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing and treating child sexual abuse, Alison takes us through her remarkable journey. From discussing her initial caution approaching such a sensitive subject to how the words of her daughter sparked her determination, Alison's story is as inspiring as it is insightful.Navigating the for-purpose space entails a different energy and dynamic compared to the corporate world. Many highly-praised books are written every year. And yet, this week's guest quotes one that we've never had come up in an Art of Procurement podcast before: The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Even at 635 words, there are five characters, heroes and villains, danger, hope, an escape, and a happy feel, good ending. Not a word is wasted. And that's when you realize this is not a typical episode of AOP. Philip Ideson is joined for this unique conversation by Simon Geale, Executive Vice President at Proxima. They recently had the opportunity to sit down - face to face - and have a wide ranging exchange about some of the bigger picture dynamics at play in our professional lives. The discussion opened with a focus on the art of storytelling, something Simon knows a great deal about. He has been telling stories to influence executives for years, making appearances on media outlets like the BBC, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, and many more. But their conversation went a lot deeper than that. They also discussed The health of the procurement profession: what is exciting and where frustration persists The vulnerability associated with being an introvert or speaking publicly, and potential ways to overcome those fears Why it is so important to try and see a story through our audience's eyes - long before we tell it
Our guest on this week's episode is Simon Geale, chief procurement officer at supply chain consultancy firm Proxima. China has been suffering under a severe heat wave and drought, with daily temperatures in many regions above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). How will this latest blow affect production out of China and what are the short and long-term implications to our supply chains? The latest employment figures are out and show more jobs have been created, but other reports add that the United States is lacking skilled workers. How does this affect logistics and what can be done to help fill the ranks?Shifting demographics are having an impact on supply chains, and it appears to be causing acute problems in our warehouses and distribution centers. In this episode, how a love of mountain-biking, combined with a passion for building strong communities, led to the creation of an 8-figure online store, along with a swag of industry awards and recognition at the highest level of eCommerce in Australia. Mountain Bikes Direct is a very unconventional business. And co-founder Jen Geale is a very unconventional business owner. And that's what makes this story so very interesting. You see, this 8-figure business which started in 2012 sells Australia's largest range of mountain bike parts, clothing and accessories, yet has no physical shop-front, all the staff work remotely from the comfort of their own homes across three countries, if you're a customer you wont find a number to call if you have a question or complaint... yet the customer service offering is exceptional, and on their biggest sales day ever, Jen and her family were kicking back on the beach! In her role as General Manager, Jen says her goal is to ensure a high level of Kum-ba-yah across the business! Tim catches up with Mountain Bike Direct's wonderfully enthusiastic GM as she sat relaxed, cross-legged on her couch in her Gold Coast home, which doubles as the business's office (hubby Michael was quietly working away upstairs) where she talked openly. "For some people, being all-consumed by the business, giving it everything and not sleeping... that may be where they want to be; and that's fine. Its not what I wanted to do, its not what we wanted to do, its simply just not our version of success" Jen Geale - MTB Direct Support the show.
A contentious week for Nat and The OG but Ollie gets his first forfeit nonetheless - doesn't stop him picking the winners for you and you'd better believe it's on!

#65 Robert Whittaker talks to Daniel Geale
This is Part 2 of my interview with Jen Geale of MTB Direct an 8-figure mountain biking e-commerce store in Australia. Today is all about scaling the business and how Jen and her partners grew from $1 million in sales to 8-figures. :) Jen is SO HONEST about the successes and the struggles and doesn't hold back with what they've done to grow. I love how she refers to the struggles as the "valley of despair". Here's what we discuss in this episode: The power of an email list - especially when there's a small budget for marketing Why she and her partners have resisted building a HUGE list Using giveaways to grow the business Why they're focusing on the on-site experience Increasing conversion rates Why it's so important to define your own version of success Switching the business from a "lowest price" focus to a site with true expertise in the niche and customer service Show notes and links: janehamill.com/jen
Imagine you start an online store and grow sales to $1 million pretty quickly. How fun would that be? And everyone around you thinks you’re successful and doing great. But you know differently. Yes, sales are rolling in, but there’s no money left over and you’re not making a profit. Now what??? You either need to shut down your e-commerce site completely or figure out a way to get profitable in the next 5 months. Period. Thise are your only 2 choices. In this episode, I interview Jen Geale, one of the owners of Mountain Bikes Direct. This is the story what they did when faced with a $1 million dollar business that wasn't making money. You're going to love Jen and her business journey. This is Part 1 of the interview. Show Notes and Links: www.janehamill.com/mtbdirect1

David Geale from the Financial Conduct Authority talks to Martin for Festival Radio about FAMA and how Financial Planners can provide feedback to the FCA. Clinton is a Director of Citywide Financial Partners, based in Surrey. The firm was established in 2004 and specialises in providing financial advice to high net worth individuals and their families. In this episode The Financial Conduct Authority's progressive regulatory policies have been credited with helping to make London one of the world's finest FinTech centres. In episode 126 of FinTech Insider, we spoke with several participants of the FCA's regulatory sandbox, created as a ‘safe space' for startups and companies to test ideas before becoming fully regulated. In this episode, we interview FCA Policy Director David Geale on the thought behind the sandbox, and more. Enjoy the show! “The sandbox is there for firms who really need to test in a live environment,” David says. “The example I often give is around disclosure. If I actually present something to you and say, ‘This is the current disclosure, here's a new version, which one of these do you prefer? Which one of these do you understand?' well, to a degree, that's cheating. It's better than nothing in terms of testing, but you've cheated, because you've got people to read it in the first place, and that's generally the core challenge, is getting people to engage, getting people to read. So if you can test that in a live environment, and say, ‘Okay, we know what you would have had, now what's the difference in actual behaviour with this new form,' or new style, maybe digital disclosure, for example, you can actually really see the impact of the results.” Enjoy the show! Last weekend was full of British fighters, and we had some fun times in a number of those scraps. On Sky Sports, Kell Brook laced up Frankie Gavin, Lee Selby annexed a belt from Evgeny Gradovich, Jorge Linares outlasted Kevin Mitchell in a brutal go, Amir Khan got past a surprisingly scrappy Chris Algieri on Spike... But likely the talk of the weekend was Anthony Joshua's quick demolition job on Kevin Johnson. Even crazier is that Patrick Connor, boxing historian and contributor to The Fight City, and James Foley of Bad Left Hook welcome back Sam Sheppard of The Queensberry Rules, to give us a firsthand perspective of most of it. This coming weekend, Miguel Cotto wonkily defends the middleweight title against Daniel Geale at a catchweight on HBO, but not before Robert Guerrero takes on Aron Martinez for Premier Box

Fat Man. Little Boy. Chernobyl. Three Mile Island. Bikini Atoll. Gennady Golovkin's ledger. All have been vaporized and forever tainted. What is it, exactly, that Golovkin carries in his fists? Dynamite? Adamantium? Anvils? The Ghost of Tom Joad? Hyperbole aside, Golovkin is tearing through the ranks at 160 lbs. -- what you'd expect any middleweight badass with a point to prove. Golovkin's obliteration of Daniel Geale was impressive, even if Bryant Jennings' win over Mike Perez was not. This week on TQBR Radio, Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules turn the GGG hype up a notch and fawn all over one of the podcast's favorite sons. Also on the agenda, a preview of Brandon Rios vs Diego Chaves and Sergey Kovalev vs Blake Caparello. Thanks for tunint in! (Photo: Joe Camporeale)

Generally when the waters near the shore of a beach recede, it means a tsunami is on its way and you need to run your ass off. This weekend, the receding waters signify the imminent arrival of one of the hardest hitting fighters in the world today, Gennady Golovkin. You should still run your ass off, however. The last minute cancelation of Tyson Fury vs. Dereck Chisora II means the boxing world will be even more dependent on Golovkin-Geale to satisfy its bloodlust. This week on TQBR Radio, Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules do a comprehensive preview of Golovkin-Geale and the Bryant Jennings vs Mike Perez co-feature on HBO, and recap last weekend's card from Macau, China that featured Zou Shiming, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Brian Viloria.
