Psalm 103 Matthew 5 Genesis 4
The sermon explored the life of King David, a man after God's own heart, who faced immense challenges and heartache. Through David's example, we learn the importance of finding strength in the Lord during our own trials and tribulations. Pastor Clayton emphasized the need to preach the truth about God to ourselves, rather than listening to the lies of our own deceitful hearts. Takeaways: In times of sorrow and suffering, turn to God and preach His truth to your own heart. Remind yourself of His goodness, faithfulness, and the benefits He has bestowed upon you. Focus on surrendering to God's will and trusting in His sovereignty, even when circumstances seem dire. God is using your current situation to work in you and through you. Surround yourself with a community of believers who will support and encourage you, even dragging you along when needed, as you walk the path God has laid before you. Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #572 is an hour of dynamic visionary acoustic improvised music played live by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, ukulele, acoustic guitar, kalimba, mandolin and Celtic harp, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum and congas. Today's show was recorded in early April of 2024 at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts and begins with the majestic waltz of “Oh My Soul”, a beautifully open and expressive piece with a fine vocal from Mariam over gospel piano and a steady, pulsing conga groove. “Misty Clouds” is a mystical, spacious ballad replete with electronics, vast piano chords and lyrical Native flute passages from Mariam in conversation with her powerful vocal. The spry folk of “Deva Magic Fire” is imbued with Eastern touches and a drum-tight conga-ukulele-piano rhythm section and “Ryalia”, from the “Release” album, is a beautiful, driving minor folk song with a notable Romani influence in Mariam's impassioned vocal and fast, tight ukulele strumming. “Just Walk Away” is a swinging ‘50s rocker also from Mariam's “Release” album with an appealing, bluesy retro approach and another fine vocal and “Treasures” is a deep, earthen chant built on a pulse of Native drum and a carpet of minor acoustic guitar and piano. Mariam strums her lustrous, shimmering 8-string ukulele for the pretty, uplifting “Somebody Before You”, a lovely, lilting piece with Mariam's evocative vocal and busy but spacious gospel piano from Bob and “It's Just That Way” concludes today's hour with a hushed, reverent minor ballad built on the imaginative interplay of kalimba, Native drum, piano, Native flute and always Mariam's clear, expressive voice soaring across the top of the lush, unusual soundstage. Why are we here on earth? And where do we go after we die? We've all asked these questions hoping to discover the purpose of life. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—believe that God has a plan for us. It's called the plan of salvation, and it contains the answers to life's questions. Jesus Christ is the central figure in God's plan. Before we were born on earth, we lived as spirit children of our Heavenly Father. He sent us to earth to receive a physical body and to learn and grow through life's experiences. God wants us to learn to do good and follow His Son, Jesus Christ. One way we show our love for God is by obeying His commandments. Of course, God knew we would make mistakes. As part of the plan of salvation, Jesus Christ would be born on earth. He would teach us, establish His Church, and suffer and die for our sins. Because He suffered all things, He can provide us relief from our sorrows and sufferings. Jesus Christ's sacrifice enables us to repent and be forgiven of our sins and mistakes. Learn more: Plan of Salvation- https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/s... For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me. We are proud to have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Our faith inspires us to be an organization built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where we serve. We strive to reflect God's unconditional love. It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless. --------------------------------------------------------

In this episode, we read Psalm 103 in its entirety. Afterwards, we discuss in detail what king David was doing and the purpose behind it. Afterwards, we apply these truths to our personal lives and pray for God to build this life-changing healing discipline in us.
Today's quick summer replay episode spends 7 minutes in scripture taking a brief look at Psalm 103 and how it can encourage your body image and comparison struggles. Instead of waking up and cursing the mirror or the scale (or his life), David wakes up and says, "Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul, and all that is within me bless his holy name!" If you're looking for scripture to help with comparison and body image issues, this episode is for you! This passage has some rich truths for those of us who struggle with body image and comparison. Oh My Soul | Part 4 | Pastor Chris Heller We trust you have taken the opportunity to check out our Week of Prayer walk-through this past week. So many of you joined us, and we are thankful for your enthusiastic response. We pray it was a meaningful experience that brought nourishment to your soul and encouragement to grow in your personal walk with Jesus. This Sunday, we will be concluding our Week of Prayer by sharing a review of the week, spending some extra time in prayer, and focusing on the "Soul on Fire" found in Psalm 63.
Oh My Soul | Part 3 | Pastor Chris Heller They say emotional wounds are some of the most difficult to overcome. They can leave wounds that last throughout a lifetime. Unfortunately, if these wounds are not mended, they can lead to a bitter soul full of jealousy, complaint, and resentment. But I have good news! There is healing for the hurting soul, and restoration for the bitter spirit. Join us this week as we continue our week of prayer series, “Oh My Soul”, in Psalm 73.
Oh My Soul | Part 2 | Pastor Chris Heller There are times in our lives when we can become angry at the evil and suffering that we see around us. We simply do not understand why God would allow some of these horrific acts to occur. In fact, we know that many people struggle deeply with the question, “how could a loving God allow evil and suffering?” Sometimes, we can feel like it's wrong to question God. However, scripture is full of incidences when writers sought answers to their questions rooted beneath their troubled emotions. Join us this week as we continue our series “Oh My Soul,” where we'll look at another Psalm (13), and see how David handled his questions about evil and suffering with the God he trusted and loved.
Oh My Soul | Part 1 | Pastor Chris Heller This Sunday, we will be introducing our new sermon series, “Oh My Soul,” which will lead into our Week of Prayer later this month. In this series we'll be focusing on our inner man and the need to spiritually nurture our inner soul. Throughout the book of Psalms, David and the other psalmists referred often to the condition of their souls, crying out that their souls are thirsty, weary, troubled, discouraged, clinging to God. During Jesus' time on earth he asked his followers, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36) He emphasized the possibility of losing our soul to misguided worldly pursuits and earthly gain. In this series, we'll concentrate on how to study the Word and pray in ways that uplift, fill up, encourage and inspire our souls to long after God. Looking forward to starting this new series together!
476 My Soul Thirsts For God, A Guided Christian Meditation on Psalms 42:1-3 with the Recenter With Christ app I'm Chaplain Jared and I work as a hospice chaplain and an ICU chaplain. My purpose in making this podcast is to help you find more peace in your life and to be more open for your heart to be changed by the Spirit of God. By using centuries old form of Christian Meditation named Lectio Divina: Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization. Get into a place where you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tensing or unrelaxing. If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes. Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation: Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate. Bible verses for Meditation: Psalms 42 NIV 1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” ESV 1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?” Meditation: The Great Christian writer CS Lewis wrote that we as humans have a God size hole in our heart. This scripture begins to lay the basics of our need for God. We have a thirst for the kind of unconditional love that only a perfect God can provide. There is nothing in this world that can fill the place of God in our soul. Sometimes when we think of our need before God we focus exclusively on our guilt and need for redemption. These things are true but I believe it is even deeper than this. The light we rejoice in, the happiness, joy, fulfillment, love, all these things are exemplified in God. They are represented as a reflection of only a fraction of the glory of God. The highest ideals we could possibly seek in life are perfect in God. As people wrestle with the Goodness of God they are really only wrestling with the Goodness of what they understand. The source of light and good does not need to be judged by the imperfection of human understanding. This is the same God that has offered you salvation and remains dedicated to your spiritual transformation, to your development in His love and grace. He remains willing and able to love you perfectly. Don't allow others to destroy your relationship with the source of true love and acceptance. Do not allow the temporary troubles of this world distract your mind and your heart away from the real and undying love of a perfect God. Rejoice in the Goodness of the Lord and embrace our need and thirst for Him. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials.
