GOD HAS POWER TO HELP OR CAST DOWN
You can restore a piece of furniture, a musical instrument, or even a house. But only God can restore a soul. Psalm twenty-three, verse three begins with these four words: “He restores my soul.” Today, Ron takes an in-depth look at what this restoration process looks like, as he continues his teaching series, “Psalm 23 and Me: Living the Good Life with The Good Shepherd.”
If you've ever made a mistake from which you thought you'd never recover, if you've ever wandered so far away from God you weren't sure how to get back, Dr. Ron Jones has some good news for you today. The first phrase of Psalm twenty-three, verse three, says, “He restores my soul.” Today, Ron shows us what that restoration looks like, how a merciful, forgiving, loving God offers hope and healing, even to those who have gone astray. And at one time or another, we've all gone astray.

To come to Jesus and be saved, one must die to self, casting down every idol, and embrace the Lordship of Jesus Christ by following His way.
Blessed Thirst | Psalm 42:1–2 | Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?“As the deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.”Psalm 42 opens with one of the most honest and vulnerable cries in Scripture—a soul desperate for God in a dry and weary land. In this first message of our Psalm 42 series, Pastor CJ Witkoe explores what it means to have a blessed thirst—a longing for the living God that refuses to settle for spiritual stagnation.Psalm 42 is a lament—written for public worship by the Sons of Korah. That means this wasn't private journaling. It was sung. Repeated. Prayed together. Because while circumstances change, human emotions don't.In a world full of distractions, idols, and “stagnant water,” this message asks a piercing question:Are you thirsty for God—or just a version of Him that fits your comfort zone?In this sermon, you'll discover:

WHY ARE YOU CAST DOWN, O MY SOUL? PSALM 42

Ezekiel 28:11–26 takes us beyond an earthly king into a deeper spiritual reality. This passage describes a being created in perfection, later corrupted by pride, and finally cast down by God. The chapter closes with judgment on Sidon and a powerful promise of restoration for Israel, reminding us that God alone reigns in holiness and faithfulness.
This passage recapitulates the same story depicted in the previous section but this time in greater detail. There is a basic progression at work: Christ triumphed, Satan attacked, God protects his people. This is the way that human history unfolds. The devil and his angels make war against Christ and His angels and His people. […]
Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?Psalms 42:1-11 There are several reasons why people fall into depression. Some have lost loved ones that are no longer with. Some have lost their health, no longer can they do what they used to do, some have lost their wealth,, and no longer can buy the things that they would like. But if you have been saved, you have not lost the Lord, even though you're feeling down. Look up, let God lift you up by his wonderful love.
If you go to a doctor or a medical clinic with a physical problem, one of the first things you can expect is for your physician to discover the cause of your ailment. Then the next thing is to try to offer the remedy. The sermon subject for today is "Why Art Thou Cast Down?" The Scriptural basis is Psalm 42, verse 5. If you ever have that "cast down" feeling, then maybe you can relate to the psalmist's feelings. So let's look together, first, at the cause, and then to the remedy. God has help for us just at this point in our lives. For more information on the Campground, insider tips and FAQ's, listen to our General Ocean Lakes Podcast, Campground Conversations.

There is much we can learn from this Psalmist on how we are to respond when we feel far from God, isolated, and defeated. He moves from despair to hope, through remembering specific times he worshipped alongside the people of God and speaking to his doubts with the truths of God.

Bryan and Rocky talk about the inevitability of suffering and trials in this life, just like King David and many other saints and disciples before us had to endure. For men and women whom God uses greatly, there is a development process God has created that uses the difficulties of life as training ground. It seems to be a recurring theme for Influencers because it is a recurring theme in life. But perhaps today, you need to hear this message of hope.

So many Scriptures speak about the damage idolatry does in our lives and to our souls. The reality is that, while we face temptations and distractions, we are the ones that set up and attend to our idols. Idolatry is anything we attend to or love more than the Lord our God. Our idolatry divides our hearts and lessens our experience in this life with the God who desires to pour the great blessings of Himself and His Kingdom into our lives.
Why Art Thou Cast Down? (broadcast date: 09/01/2024)
This is message 7 in the 2 Corinthians series 2 Corinthians 4:8-18 Paul shares the secret the secret of victorious Christian life; dying to self so that Christ may live through him. Despite facing immense pressures, perplexities, persecution, and being cast down, Paul remained steadfast because he knew God was in control. He emphasizes that present sufferings, though difficult, are temporary and pale in comparison to the eternal glory that awaits. Because Jesus lives, believers have the assurance of resurrection and the strength to endure, knowing that their afflications are momentary and purposeful for God's glory.
