At our Interactive Midweek Service, Pastor Femi Paul brought us a corrective and stirring word titled Praise the Lord O' My Soul! Building on Sunday's message Count Your Blessings, he opened with Psalm 103:2 and expanding through Isaiah 55:2, we were reminded that counting our blessings is not merely a gratitude exercise, it is spiritual wisdom. From Numbers 11:1a, Pastor emphasised that complaining isn't just a bad habit; it displeases the Lord and stalls our progress. We learned that counting our blessings is actually a spiritual guard that protects our Counting our blessings guards the heart against grumbling and complaining, and keeps us qualified for what God is about to do next. We also saw how complaint can distort perspective, while thanksgiving preserves spiritual posture and keeps our heart open to God's next move. The core of the message was a deep dive into Philippians 4:8, where we were challenged to discipline our thoughts toward what is good, worthy of praise, and full of God's goodness. We were challenged to fill our minds with things to praise rather than things to curse, and to fasten our thoughts on the glorious works of God. As the congregation lifted the song Praise, the atmosphere reinforced the message that praise is not only a response to blessing but a posture that sustains joy, protects perspective, and aligns us with divine harmony. The charge was simple and profound: keep counting your blessings, keep praising God, and stay qualified for what He is about to do next. Confession: Lord, I choose praise over complaint and gratitude over grumbling. Guard my heart, align my thoughts, and keep me positioned for all You are about to do next.

Praise Series #16 Bless The Lord, O My SoulPsalm 103:1-5 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits—who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.”Yesterday I couldn't get a song out of my head. It is such a good song. I wanted to share that song with you this morning. The song is called “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord).” It was written by Matt Redman and Jonas Myrin and is based on Psalms 103:1-5. It explores how we can never run out of reasons to worship and praise God. On Monday of this week, Episode #1036, we talked about how vital praise and worship are to our faith journey. This song and this Psalm remind us that there are so many reasons we can be grateful to the Lord.Let's first look at these verses. They begin with “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” This is exactly what we talked about on Monday. Praising the Lord is so important. Even when we are in a really difficult season of life, there are many reasons we can be grateful to the Lord, and we can praise Him.In the verse, it says, “who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.” Those are some pretty amazing things to thank God for. You might not have experienced all of them, but I bet you have experienced some of them. Have you felt God's steadfast mercy and love in your life? Have you experienced His forgiveness? Some of you have even experienced his healing touch. I know some of you have been redeemed from a pit as well. I love the line that says your youth is renewed like the eagles. We could all use our youth to be renewed. Can you see all the amazing things God has done and will do for us? Can you see how there are endless possibilities when it comes to praising the Lord? The song for today also talks about praising the Lord. I invite you to listen to the song sometime today. You can look it up on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Music, wherever you usually listen to music. The reason I would like you to listen to the actual song, instead of just this podcast, is that it is really good. Here are the words to the song.[Chorus]Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soulWorship His holy nameSing like never before, O my soulI'll worship Your holy nameAs you can see, this chorus comes almost directly from the Psalm. I love it when artists do this. I love it when they use the Bible verses in the songs. It helps get the Lord's word out to more people.Next is Verse 1:    The sun comes up, it's a new day dawningIt's time to sing your song againWhatever may pass and whatever lies before meLet me be singing when the evening comesThis is something we can always be grateful for: that we got to wake up to a brand new day of life. I love how this verse says, whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes. Wouldn't it be great if we could be singing to the Lord at the end of the day, no matter what happens to us throughout the day? How great would it be if we got so used to praising the Lord that we could praise Him no matter the circumstances?Verse 2:You're rich in love and you're slow to angerYour name is great, and Your heart is kindFor all Your goodness, I will keep on singingTen thousand reasons for my heart to findWe tend to have a perception of God that he is angry at us all the time. We look at some parts of the Old Testament, and we think God is full of Vengeance and Wrath. This is not what He is constantly telling our prayer group. He always tells us how much He loves us. God is rich in love and slow to anger. Does he get angry? Probably, we all do. However, He loves us so much more than his anger. I love how the verse says, “For all your goodness, I will keep on singing ten thousand reasons for my heart to find. If you are looking, there are always reasons to be thankful to God. Even in your most difficult season, there are things you can praise the Lord for; you just have to look for them. Or, as I mentioned on Monday, you can put on praise and worship music and let the artists praise the Lord for you![Verse 3]And on that day when my strength is failingThe end draws near, and my time has comeStill, my soul will sing Your praise unendingTen thousand years and then forevermoreForevermoreIt is beautiful to think about praising the Lord when our time on this earth is ending. When we can feel our strength failing. How great would it be to get to the end of our lives and still want to sing the Lord's praises? I like how it says ten thousand years and then forever more. Once we are in heaven, all will make sense. We will understand all the things that we don't understand now. Then we will get to praise the Lord for all eternity.[Chorus]Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soulWorship His holy nameSing like never before, O my soulI'll worship Your holy nameThis song is such a great song to play when you want to worship the Lord. As I listened to it last night at prayer group I knew I would be listening to it, more often. It's a great way to praise the Lord!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless all those listening to this episode. Lord, we love you, and we are so grateful for all you do for us. We are sorry we don't always appreciate all you do. We are sorry that we don't always know how to praise you. Please help us with this, Lord. Please stir our hearts and help us to learn to praise you more often. We want to always be telling you how much we appreciate you. We ask all this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to meeting you all here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you just as you are, and so do I! This is only appropriate, as this is not God's first day in dealing with humans. As David recalls the Lord's answer to Moses' requests of "Show me Your glory, " and "Show me your ways," he comes back to one big response:Bless the Lord O my soul, and all that is within me, Bless His holy name. Join me for a 7 minute stroll down the halls of history.  Perhaps we'll end up at the same place as David. We ask that our faith may clearly perceive the blood of the atonement and the covering of the perfect righteousness of Christ; and May we come afresh, depending alone on Jesus. "I, the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me." May this be our one hope, that Jesus died and rose again, and that for His sake we are accepted in the Beloved. May every child of Yours have his conscience purged from dead works to serve the true and living God.

In this replay from Summer 2024, BibleWorm continues our summer series on creation care with Psalm 104, a profound text celebrating the magnificence of creation, which brings joy not only to the human heart but also to all creatures, from the birds in the trees to Leviathan in the deeps of the sea. We even see the celebratory nature of God, who whisks about on the clouds, wearing a fabulous cloak made of light and rejoicing in all that God has created. The psalm also reminds us of the harmonious relationship God intends for humans and animals, with humans working during the day and animals prowling at night so we can each live our lives fully, without being a danger to one another. All of this, the psalmist reminds us, should make us sing throughout our lives at the incomparable glory of creation. Bless the LORD, O my soul!

On this July 29th, join your host, Hunter, as he guides us through another enriching day in our year-long journey through Scripture. Today's episode takes us through Isaiah 57–59, Psalm 103, and 2 Peter 3. Together, we'll reflect on God's promises of healing and restoration, the call to authentic living and justice, and the hope of Christ's return. Hunter encourages us to shift our focus from ourselves to the goodness and mercy of God, practicing “soul talk” by reminding our hearts daily of His blessings. Stay tuned for a time of prayer, encouragement, and a reminder that you are deeply loved. Settle in, open your heart, and let's discover the abundant life Jesus offers—one day, one scripture at a time. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Give your soul a good talk. There are times when our soul needs a little talking to. Psalm 103 leads by example: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” The psalmist is intentionally reminding himself, calling his soul to attention, saying—remember what God has done for you! He lists off the goodness of God: He has forgiven you, healed you, redeemed you, crowned you with love and mercy, satisfied you with good things. He renews your strength, vindicates the oppressed, reveals His ways—over and over, the psalmist checks off these reminders, pointing his soul back to gratitude and truth. When we give ourselves a good soul talk, we shift the focus away from our messes or even our own virtues, and put it where it belongs—on the goodness and sufficiency of God. Instead of dwelling on what we have done or failed to do, we lift our eyes to what He has done, and continues to do. That's not just “positive self-talk”—it's gospel talk. It is the practice of reciting God's faithfulness, mercy, and grace down deep into our roots, day by day. We need this kind of soul talk every single day. And not only do we need to speak the gospel to ourselves, we need others to speak it over us. That's why being in community, family, and church matters so much. Let's be intentional, not just with ourselves, but in encouraging and reminding those around us—our loved ones, our friends, our coworkers—of the good news of God's love and faithfulness. Are you feeling discouraged, anxious, or condemned? Give yourself a good soul talk. Make a list of ways God has shown mercy and grace. Reread Psalm 103, write out your own list, and make a habit of shifting your gaze to Jesus daily. This is my prayer for my own life, for my family, and for you: may you speak the good news to your soul, and may your life be anchored in the hope and mercy found in Christ. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord of life, you have awakened me. Again to the gift of this day. You go before me, walk beside me and dwell within me. Let me walk slowly in your presence. May I resist the hurried spirit of this world and instead breathe deep of your peace. Open my eyes to beauty, my ears to your voice, and my heart to the quiet work of grace. Help me not to strive, but to abide. Not to achieve, but to receive. Today. Let my words carry your kindness. My actions reflect your mercy. My thoughts be anchored in your truth, that I am yours and you are with me. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
