Catch Me When I FallPsalm 13:4-5 “How long, Lord? Will you utterly forget me? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I carry sorrow in my soul, grief in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look upon me, answer me, Lord, my God! Give light to my eyes lest I sleep in death, Lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed,” lest my foes rejoice at my downfall. But I trust in your mercy. Grant my heart joy in your salvation, I will sing to the Lord, for he has dealt bountifully with me!”The theme for mentoring this month is “How Long, Lord?” I chose this title because I know so many people who are suffering right now and who have been for quite some time. They have been sick for so long, and they can't see an end in sight. Some have been going through struggles with their family, and they can't see a resolution. It feels like things might always be like this. Many I know are struggling with a prodigal child, and they are waiting for them to come home, but feel like it may never happen. In today's verse, David addresses this same sentiment. It begins with “How Long, Lord? Will you utterly forget me? How long will you hide your face from me? How much I carry in my soul, grief in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” I am sure that is exactly what my friends who are suffering are asking the Lord. I am sure they are struggling to understand why they are still suffering, what the purpose is, and when they will be through it. In mentoring this month, each week, I am going to examine a song that deals with these exact feelings. I really like music; it speaks right to my soul. I also like to use songs because you can always go back to them and listen to them and hopefully they will bring you comfort."When I Fall" by Katy Nichole is a song written out of desperation, reflecting a time when Nichole felt mentally, spiritually, and physically drained. She describes the song as a desperate prayer, expressing her exhaustion with trying to be "okay" and her desire to be honest with God. I think this is great. We should all be honest with God. I don't know why we think we can hide things from Him. He is all-knowing. That thing you are too afraid to tell Him about, He already knows. That thing you don't want to bother Him with, He already knows. There isn't anything we can hide from God. Here are the lyrics for the song:Lord, I can't find You right nowAnd everything is crashin' downI'm losin' faith and fallin' into my doubtsHow long will I have to fightJust for me to stay alive? This is a true and honest song. This is something that I know those who suffer with chronic pain are asking the Lord. I am sure at times we all wonder where God is. We wonder why He is letting us go through the things we are going through, and when He is going to pull us out of it. It is hard to keep having faith and fighting, not to let our doubts get the best of us when we are so tired from all the fighting we have already done.I know You're there, God, pleaseJust meet me here tonightMy God, I'm tired of tryna be okayI've prayed all the prayers I have to prayPlease don't leave me lonelyMy God, I need You to hold meThis is the desperate plea of so many of us. We know God is there. We just need Him to hold us, even if it's just for a minute. We are all tired of trying to be okay. We are tired of having to pretend to everyone that we are ok. One of my favorite sayings is, “It's ok to not be ok.” I wish more people knew this. I wish more people would speak out and let others know they are not ok. I know so many people who seem so happy on the outside and yet are not ok on the inside. This world is a lonely place. Which may seem weird, as there are so many ways to keep in touch with friends and family. However, a lot of the relationships we have these days are superficial. We “like” or “love” people's posts on social media, but we aren't reaching out and having meaningful conversations. And, if we are being honest, we probably aren't making posts that accurately reflect how we feel inside or what life is like on a day-to-day basis. My God, I'm losin' all the hope I gotI'm far beyond the point of bein' lostI've tried, but I can't let go'Cause God, You catch me when I fallYou catch me when I fallThis is like so many I know. They don't want to lose their hope, but it is hard day after day when it feels like their prayers aren't being answered. When you look around, and no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to find God. What is really good is that she knows that God will be there to catch her when she falls. If she can let go of all that she thinks is supporting her and holding her up, and just fully surrender to God, then He will catch her. He will always be there to catch us when we fall. There's hardly air in my lungsWith all the damage that's been doneLord, please sustain me nowI know You are enoughMy God, I'm tired of tryna be okayI've prayed all the prayers I have to prayPlease don't leave me lonelyMy God, I need You to hold meThe thing to remember about God is that He can repair the damage that is done. We think we need God to act now, before it is too late. However, it is never too late for God. God can replace your damaged lungs. He can repair your kidneys. He can do whatever needs to be done. God is our provision. He is our rock. Katy says in the song that she knows God is enough and is asking Him to sustain her. He will sustain you, too. I know it may feel like you just can't keep your head above water right now. God's got you. He is your arm float. He will not let you drown. He hears your prayers. The last line of today's verse says, “But I trust in your mercy. Grant my heart joy in your salvation, I will sing to the Lord, for he has dealt bountifully with me!” Sometimes we need to sing to the Lord before the breakthrough. Sometimes we need to thank God for all the unseen work He is doing. Praising when we don't feel like we can will actually make us feel better, and it will make the enemy flee. Praising can lift us up out of the darkness, even if it is only for a little while. David was asking the Lord to give him joy in his heart. He was asking for the Lord's help. We can do the same.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode. Lord, you are so good. Help us to remember that when we feel lost in our own pain or our own troubles. Help us to remember how good you are. Lord, help us to remember you do catch us when we fall. Help us to remember you never leave our side. Lord, we need you to come and let us know you are here with us. We love you so much, and we need you now, Lord. Help us to hang in there, help us to never give up hope. Please provide us with the strength and provision we need for today Lord. We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. If you experience chronic pain or chronic illness, you understand how impossible it can feel, at times, to hold tight to hope. On our darkest, most painful nights, we can easily feel alone and abandoned by God. Singer/songwriter Katy Nichole understands. In fact, there was a time when she wasn't sure she wanted to hold on and contemplated taking her life. But God met her in that place with a truth meant for us all.  Discussion/reflective questions: What resonated with you most in this episode? When have you most needed to know you remained held by God? How did you feel when you heard Katy say that it's okay not to be okay?  What might it look like in your life to allow yourself, in your pain, to not be okay? How did you feel to hear that God has good plans for you? If this is hard to believe, share why.  What might self-care look like for you? How might listing tasks or goals in order of priority help you mange your time and energy level? What is one action step God might be inviting you to take having listened to this episode? Goring “I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven.” — Psalm 123:1 (NIV) Let's face it: Our world is in complete chaos. But we do have hope! His name is Jesus Christ and He can help us survive this experience on Earth.  It's easy to get caught up in all that is wrong with our world today: wars and rumors of wars, division in the Christian church, turmoil in our communities in the USA and throughout the world, bad weather wreaking havoc, political upheaval, as well as personal struggles and the trials we all endure as followers of Jesus Christ. Truthfully, it's a lot and very overwhelming if that's our focus.  But the moment we decide to turn our eyes upon Jesus, that is when our perspective begins to change. We remember that planet Earth is not our home. We realize that one day, Jesus will return and usher all His faithful followers into Heaven where there will be no more pain, sorrow, heartbreak, disappointment, or sin. Heaven is a perfect place, and when we arrive there, we too will be perfect. But for now, Earth is our temporary home. God does not expect us to ignore all the problems we have on this planet. Instead, He expects us to serve others as we serve Him. It's our duty to make this world a better place. We can do that by focusing on our faith walk with Jesus. When we ask Him to show us what He is doing in this world, we can learn what we can do to partner with Him in driving out the darkness. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the Light of the world (John 8:12) and as Christians, we are a light for Christ (Matthew 5:14). It is important to spend time with God and ask Him how we can share Christ's light and love with our fellow humans—especially those who don't know Jesus yet. William J. Thoms, a British writer, said, “Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some person ever reads.” Therefore, let's do our best to love God and all people. Our hope is that they will be drawn to Him and learn how much God loves them. When we share the love of Jesus, it helps to ease their pain as they learn how to look to Christ. The lyrics to the hymn, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus,” tell us that when we look to Jesus, all the problems in this world seem to fade away. Our perspective is renewed as we allow His goodness, grace, and mercy to flood our souls, bringing us close to Him and reminding us that this world is not our home. Several years ago, I was pouring out my heart to Jesus about all the pain in this world and lamenting how it was affecting me. God responded by speaking these words to my heart: “Remember, Earth is temporary and that means your pain is temporary.” He helped me see that all the trials and tribulations, death and destruction, betrayal and pain … it all will be put to a permanent end by Jesus Christ. There is an expiration date to our pain and that date is known as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Only God knows the exact date and time when He will send His Son to take us home (Matthew 24:36). God wants everyone to know Him and be saved in His Kingdom. Let's keep working to share His Light and His love with our world today and every day. There are two songs that helped to inspire this devotional today: “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” by Rachael Lampa and “Turn to Jesus” by Katy Nichole. I encourage you to listen to both, because the lyrics can help us focus on Jesus. Let's thank Jesus for being our safe place, our refuge and ever-present help in trouble. Let's look to Jesus and focus on Him so that we are not consumed by all the pain and suffering in this world. Let's thank the Lord for always being here for us and never leaving us to face life alone.  Intersecting Faith and Life: Have you asked God to show you how you can partner with Him in pushing back the darkness in this world? It's easy to praise God on the mountain, but the real question is whether or not you'll praise Him in the valley. Join us today as award winning singer, song writer, and worship leader Katy Nichole joins us to share her testimony of faith and resilience. Although Katy has received several awards such as the 2022 K-LOVE Worship Song of the Year, GMA Dove Award New Artist of the Year, as well as a Billboard #1 for her song ‘In Jesus Name (God of Possible)', Katy gives all the honor, glory, and credit to the Lord who has carried her through some very dark and difficult seasons of life. Having been born with congenital scoliosis, Katy's life has quite literally and figuratively been painful. Multiple surgeries and a near suicide attempt threatened to derail her, BUT GOD had a different plan in mind. In the moments right before Katy was contemplating ending it all, the Lord imprinted on her heart to trust Him because He wasn't finished with her yet. Katy now openly shares her journey with mental health struggles and is an advocate for others who are facing physical and mental health challenges. Katy may get the opportunity of displaying her talent from the largest stages across America, but she wants to shed light on the reality that we all have struggles and no one is a stranger to pain and adversity in this life, but we serve a God who is a Healer, Way Maker, and Miracle Worker! Proceeds from the former tennis center's redevelopment will fund the Park Place master plan. The charges resulted from investigations revealing Hill's distribution of fentanyl and heroin in Athens. In a separate case, Brandon Ector, also known as "Big," was sentenced to 150 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in Milledgeville. The investigations prevented nearly four kilograms of fentanyl from circulating in the communities. Sentencing is scheduled for March 21. Why are we here on earth? And where do we go after we die? We've all asked these questions hoping to discover the purpose of life. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—believe that God has a plan for us. It's called the plan of salvation, and it contains the answers to life's questions. Jesus Christ is the central figure in God's plan. Before we were born on earth, we lived as spirit children of our Heavenly Father. He sent us to earth to receive a physical body and to learn and grow through life's experiences. God wants us to learn to do good and follow His Son, Jesus Christ. One way we show our love for God is by obeying His commandments. Of course, God knew we would make mistakes. As part of the plan of salvation, Jesus Christ would be born on earth. He would teach us, establish His Church, and suffer and die for our sins. Because He suffered all things, He can provide us relief from our sorrows and sufferings. Jesus Christ's sacrifice enables us to repent and be forgiven of our sins and mistakes. Learn more: Plan of Salvation- https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/s... I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.     ACU Endorsed Charities -------------------------------------------------------- Pre-Born! We are proud to have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Our faith inspires us to be an organization built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where we serve. We strive to reflect God's unconditional love. It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless. --------------------------------------------------------

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music

CLICK HERE to download the free episode guide for THIS episode! "Hold on just a little bit longer" is the appeal Katy Nichole says God gives us in her song "Hold On." Does God entreat us to hold on in Scripture? And if so, what are we to hold on to? And what does it look like when we let go? Believe it or not, I got answers to all of these questions and more in my study of God's Word inspired by this song. Join me as we settle into Paul's first letter to Timothy to discover what we should and should not hold on to. In this episode, I discuss the following: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture – this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Consider the opposite Mark up the text Read in context Repetition Compare and contrast Make a list Episode Guide Download Various places in Scripture where we are instructed to "hold on" Proverbs 4:13 (NIV) 2 Timothy 1:13 (NLT) Revelation 3:11 (NIV) 1 Thessalonians 5:20-22 (NIV) Hebrews 3:6 (CSB) 1 Timothy 1:19 (ESV) Making a list of what we are to hold on to Considering the opposite by taking our list and turning it into "let go" statements An example from Jesus where the Pharisees let go of God's ways to hold on to human tradition - Mark 7:8-13 Choosing 1 Timothy to spend more interaction time The history of illuminated manuscripts - 1-minute video from the Museum of the Bible The Illuminated Scripture Journal as a resource for Bible interaction - Amazon Paid Link Marking repeated words or phrases faith and conscience - 1 Timothy 1:5, 1 Timothy 1:18-20 The doctrine Paul wants Timothy (and us) to hold on to 1 Timothy 6:2-4 Galatians 1:6-7 1 Timothy 1:6-7 Making a list of things contrary to sound doctrine - 1 Timothy 1:8-10 Remembering that when you don't hold on to truth, it is not a neutral decision - you will cling to something else - 1 Timothy 4:1-3   But the principle is that we are to hold on to what Scripture says we should hold on to. Life is a roller coaster, and when you are facing the drop, it can feel like you are holding on for dear life. But keep holding on, don't let go. The drop is going to pass, your worst is eventually going to be behind you. The season you are in is temporary but the God you serve and believe in is constant and eternal. Do you recognize Him in those seasons? What are you holding onto?  Katy Nichole bravely shares the story behind her song, “Hold On,” which comes from a dark season in her life where she did not want to continue on the roller coaster. But God intervened and reminded her that He is not done yet.  We hope this conversation serves as a reminder that God has a purpose for YOUR life, He is not done with you yet, either.  If you are struggling with self-harm or suicidal thoughts, please call 811 – the national mental health help phone number.  Katy Nichole - "Hold On" (Official Music Video) All season long you can also listen to Candace + Katy's Summer Playlist. What are you thankful for today? It can be the breath in your lungs, the people around you, or an amazing opportunity standing in front of you. Whatever it is, there is always something you can be grateful for.  Today's conversation is about one of Candace's favorite songs on Katy Nichole's album – “Jesus, Thank You.” It is an anthem of gratefulness to Jesus. If there are two things that can shift your mindset, it is gratitude and worship; and this song encompasses both of those things.  In this episode, you will hear Candace and Katy discuss:  The things they are grateful for in this season  How worship and gratitude can shift your mindset and the atmosphere around you The fear of failure – Would you rather fail or wonder what would have happened if you tried?  All season long you can also listen to Candace + Katy's Summer Playlist. You know those gatherings where things get a little tense because two people in the group have different opinions on something? Maybe you have been on one of the sides, and were in the tension too. Divisive moments like those can lead to broken relationships. But how do we respond?  We forgive. Human nature is flawed, so we are all going to hurt one another at some point. Is it better to forgive or live with unforgiveness? Carrying the characteristics of God - love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness - flows into our relationships with others.  Katy Nichole wrote “Things I Wish I Would Have Said” as an anthem that points us toward forgiveness. Knowing we are forgiven, we can forgive others.  “When you have the opportunity to say I love you, I miss you, I need you … say those things! Don't miss the opportunity to say them.” Tune in to hear more!  In this episode, you will hear Candace and Katy discuss:  How divisive moments can lead to broken relationships  The importance of bringing the characteristics of God into every day relationships Not living with regret and trusting God's plan will unfold anyway  Scripture that points toward forgiveness  All season long you can also listen to Candace + Katy's Summer Playlist. Season 3 is *almost* HERE!  This season Candace will talk about the Stories Behind The Songs with her season co-host, Katy Nichole.  Katy joins Candace to share what inspired each song on her debut album, “Jesus Changed My Life.” This album came from a dark season that she overcame, and she hopes the words in these songs inspire others when they walk through hard seasons.
