In today's episode, Ashanti Bentil-Dhue interviews Helen Farmer, an Inclusion and Social Impact consultant, author, speaker, and writer. Helen's diverse background and passion for creating meaningful dialogues make her a valuable resource in the realm of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and beyond. They delve into the importance of preparation and reflection when approaching sensitive conversations in the workplace. Helen shares her experiences and insights, emphasising the value of self-awareness and vulnerability. The discussion explores the significance of frank conversations and the challenges leaders face in navigating them, especially during times of crisis. Helen also offers guidance on fostering open dialogue within organisations, emphasising the need for self-awareness, peer support, and a willingness to tackle the "unsaid stuff." “I think the starting point I suggest is for people to always look at themselves. So that kind of self awareness is massive, because if you aren't on the journey, or haven't opened up, or gone on any part of that journey yourself, you're going to have less to relate to, and connect to the experiences that other people will have to go on to do that. ” Episode Highlights: The Power of Frank Conversations Overcoming Fear in Leadership The significance of encouraging self-awareness About Helen Farmer: Helen Farmer Bio 2023 Equity, Diversity and Social Inclusion Consultant/ Research Associate Helen works with people who support people from school to boardroom, especially young people and those most underserved; as well as overrepresented people, to remove barriers and provide better access, progress and support. We just loved our conversation with Annie! She is genuine, open, and oh so wise. Annie Tevelin is an entrepeneur, and founder of Skin Owl. Her skin care line was created as a result of her own journey with cystic acne. Instead of going on Accutane, she went back to school to study Cosmetic Chemistry and began formulating products that eventually healed her skin. What was originally a journey to help her skin eventually became the catalyst to helping hundreds of others with their most stubborn skin issues. If Annie had never had acne, she never would have created SkinOwl. +We dive deep into Annie's journey to creating skin owl. +Her why for moving to Boise from LA. +Her passion for bringing people together in conversation +How her podcast 'OFF the Record' brings meaningful conversation into the world. +We are so inspired by her Parliament Project! (She created an intimate in person dinner series to aid and reestablish each individual's connection with themselves.) +If you live in the Boise area you MUST go get pampered in her store! This week I could not be more excited to sit down with skincare guru, Annie Tevelin. After struggling to heal her cystic acne, Annie felt disillusioned by the beauty industry and turned to herself to heal her skin. After going back to school for cosmetic chemistry she was able to heal her skin in 30 days (for anyone who has struggled with cystic acne, you know this is INSANE!) using simple, natural, clean ingredients. This experience inspired to create a Facebook group called, 'The SkinOwl' offering professional insight into skincare, makeup and a platform for driving home the importance of self-care. Annie quickly realized that when talking to people about their skin it so often ties into their self worth and insecurities. It was through this ‘aha moment’ that Annie decided showcase vulnerability in a new way, and created one of my favorite podcasts Off The Record. Whether its hanging with her family or hosting a table of amazing humans at SkinOwl's dinner collective - The Parliament Project, Annie understands that true beauty starts from the inside and radiates out. I feel so fortunate to have been on the receiving end of Annie’s vulnerability in truly one of my favorite conversations. What started as a chat on skincare quickly evolved to topics like, divorce, motherhood and the importance of real connection. We also chat about…Intuitively following the path of your ideasBoundariesEmbracing what makes you shinyWaiting for the invitationUnhealthy relationshipsStaying truly connected in a day in age of social mediaRomanticizing self destructionResources…SkinOwl WebsiteSkinOwl InstagramConnect w/ AVirtual BFFsSponsor…Copina Co. | Use code PULLITTOGETHER15 at www.copinaco.com for 15% off your first order. The 6 week course has ended now what an amazing journey xx
This week we looked at our personal imagines and how we wanted to be seen. It was tuff for me to hear that I have to look at how I conduct myself.
This week we looked at tone and telling our stories. My story was great but the deliverance was not the best, one of my peer supporters agreed to help me work on mine.
This week I started my journey to parliament with a six week course on political pathways. I can not tell you how excited I am about being on this amazing journey. Thank you for listening xx
It's officially 2020 and OTR is HERE. FOR. IT. Today, I have the honor of sitting in the studio with husband, Micah Golden-Grant, and four-month-old son, Monty. It's the morning after the Parliament Project and we are diving deep into the wows and hows of SkinOwl's intimate dinner party, with a focus on 'undivided attention' as a form of currency. We add theme music to our favorite installation, "Maybe We're Just Old' and Annie vocally takes us to the "End of The Road.' We kick the new year off with a hard look at evolutions vs. resolutions. This week on The Alchemized Life, we're thrilled to welcome skincare guru, Annie Televin. For many years, Annie struggled to find products that worked for her sensitive, acne prone skin. After investing in a plethora of products and visiting countless dermatologists, she took matters into her own hands. While working on commercial and music video sets as a professional makeup artist and top luxury brands, she enrolled in a post-graduate program at UCLA to receive a certificate in Cosmetic Chemistry. It was there that she learned the truth about what is truly best for the skin. Inspired, Annie created her a line of skincare products with a simple (and truly!) natural ingredient deck for her personal use. Thirty days later, she noticed profound results. Her acne cleared up completely, and for the first time in years, she had glowing, radiant skin. Hoping to help others clear up their skin, Annie started a private Facebook group where she shared her personal products alongside her tried and true skincare tips. Her products became so popular that it propelled her to start her own company – SkinOwl. Yes, SkinOwl's mission to deliver the best products, but more importantly, it's about empowering men and women to feel as good as they look in body, mind, and spirit. Contrary to popular belief, our skincare routine is not only related to the products we use, but also our physical and psychological health. For instance, acne is related to our emotional health. The more congested our thoughts are, the more congestion our skin experiences. Because acne prevented Annie from dating, feeling confident and truly loving herself, she realized the way you feel about your looks spirals into other aspects of your life. After observing a powerful relationship between our psychological wellbeing and our skin, Annie created a community called the “Parliament Project” that uses skincare as a catalyst to delve into the depths of the psyche, so people can feel radiant inside and out. We Talk About: How Annie cleared up her skin, aligned with her purpose and found her purpose to create Skin Owl and overcame her struggle with acne What is the Parliament Project? How our perception of beauty relates to our psychological wellbeing The importance of simplifying your beauty routine for glowing, radiant skin Resources: WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM Join an upcoming Parliament Project HERE Stay Up To Date: Follow @TheAlchemizedLife and @AvaJohanna on Instagram Subscribe to Newsletter Visit AvaJohanna.com Upcoming Events: Conscious Creators Costa Rica Retreat: LEARN MORE
