Welcome to Lent 2026. In this sermon, we reflect on the freeing, restoring joy that comes when we are forgiven. On today's episode God begins to give very specific commands to the Israelite people on what it looks like to be fair, kind, and gracious to one another. The Lord's justice is severe for those who are selfish and outright rebellious, but gracious toward those who have no intention of causing harm. As you listen, it can be tempting to think that these are dry or irrelevant, but put yourself in the shoes/sandals of the original audience, whose livelihood wasn't based on cash or money, but on livestock, crops, and community with one another. Imagine yourself in each situation, & the text becomes much more interesting.Exodus 22 - 1:02 . Exodus 23 - 6:53 . Exodus 24 - 13:14 . Psalm 32 - 16:38 .  :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Bible.facebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

"Psalm 32 proclaims one of the greatest blessings the gospel offers: the forgiveness of sins. In this psalm, David does not speak abstractly about forgiveness, but as one who has felt the crushing weight of guilt before God—and who has experienced the profound relief that comes when sin is confessed and forgiven. This sermon explores why forgiveness is so precious by first considering the unbearable weight of unconfessed sin. David describes the toll that guilt took on his whole being: his bones wasting away, his strength dried up, and the heavy hand of the Lord pressing upon him. Sin is not a light matter. Every sin is committed against a holy God, and the burden of guilt cannot be escaped by distraction, self-improvement, or denial. Left unresolved, sin brings sorrow, despair, and ultimately death.Against this dark backdrop, the glory of forgiveness shines all the more brightly. “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven.” David testifies that when he stopped hiding his sin and confessed it before God, the Lord freely forgave the iniquity of his sin. The crushing burden was lifted. Peace replaced anguish. This forgiveness is not earned, but granted by grace to those who repent and trust in the Lord. The psalm then turns outward, urging all who hear to seek the Lord while he may be found. Forgiveness is offered now, but the day of judgment will surely come. David warns against hardening the heart—against delaying repentance until it is too late. The wicked remain surrounded by sorrow, but steadfast love surrounds those who trust in the Lord.Ultimately, Psalm 32 teaches that the righteous are not those without sin, but those whose sins have been forgiven. They rejoice not in their own righteousness, but in the mercy of God. This forgiveness is finally and fully grounded in Christ, whose blood cleanses repentant sinners from all guilt. If you feel the weight of sin, do not flee from God—run to him. Come to Christ, confess your sin, and receive the blessing David celebrates: forgiveness, peace, and joy in the Lord."

This is a guided meditation and reflection on all of Psalm 32. Psalm 32 starts with the reminder of the joy we should know because of the fresh start and a clean slate we’ve been given through Jesus. Have we forgotten how amazing and miraculous his work is in our lives? This Psalm also reminds us that hiding sin in secret places will eat us up from the inside out. The amazing news is – when we bring anything hiden into the light, God renews and receives us. Did you catch that? Every single time you turn back to God, he receives you. Every. Single. Time. He does not tire of our returns, he celebrates them. In this meditation, we will listen to Psalm 32 from the Message Translation and I will give you prompts to reflect on with the Lord. Each reflection space in 1 minute long. Feel free to pause or rewind if you need more time. May the Lord guide you to what he has for you through his Word today. Here are the reflection prompts: Consider, what would your life be like without Jesus? Thank God that through Jesus he has given you a clean slate. Recall a time when you were hiding from God and others and how it felt. When you returned to God and stopped hiding from others, how did that feel? Thank him for his mercy. Bring it forward to today… is there any place in your life that you feel you are hiding from God or others? If so, what’s holding you back from bringing it to the light? Ask God if there is any place in your life where you’re being ornery like a horse or a mule and resisting him. If he reveals anything, Ask him for his help. If nothing comes to mind, ask him to help you stay tender and responsive to his leading. Praise God for the truth that you are loved every time you turn around. If there’s a place that God has shown you where you need to turn around, ask God for his help. And remember you will be received with love. The passages we meditated on is as follows: Psalm 32, The Message Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be— you get a fresh start, your slate’s wiped clean. 2 Count yourself lucky— God holds nothing against you and you’re holding nothing back from him. 3 When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans. 4 The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up. 5 Then I let it all out; I said, “I’ll make a clean breast of my failures to God.” Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared. 6 These things add up. Every one of us needs to pray; when all hell breaks loose and the dam bursts we’ll be on high ground, untouched. 7 God’s my island hideaway, keeps danger far from the shore, throws garlands of hosannas around my neck. 8 Let me give you some good advice; I’m looking you in the eye and giving it to you straight: 9 “Don’t be ornery like a horse or mule that needs bit and bridle to stay on track.” 10 God-defiers are always in trouble; God-affirmers find themselves loved every time they turn around. 11 Celebrate God. Sing together—everyone! All you honest hearts, raise the roof! Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Ever felt the slow drain of hidden guilt, like summer heat drying your strength to dust? Psalm 32 points to a different way of living—blessed, light, and unburdened—through the freedom of forgiveness. We walk through David's language with care, unpacking transgression as rebellion, sin as missing the mark, and iniquity as moral distortion. Then we hold up the heart of the psalm: the blessed life belongs to the person who knows the debt is truly paid, not ignored or minimized, but covered by God's mercy. We talk candidly about the “mercy of misery,” those seasons when God's hand feels heavy and our bones ache under the weight of secrecy. That conviction isn't punishment for punishment's sake; it's the rescue alarm that pulls us out of denial and into honesty. Confession isn't performance or self-defense—it's agreeing with God about reality. And when we do, Scripture is clear: forgiveness is immediate, cleansing is certain, and we move from hiding our sin from God to hiding ourselves in God, our true refuge.Along the way, we root this hope in Jesus' own priorities—like telling a paralyzed man, “Your sins are forgiven,” before healing his legs—and we share stories of transformed lives that testify to grace's power: from Peter to Paul, from Zacchaeus to John Newton. If you've carried unconfessed sin or still wear shame over sins Christ has already covered, this conversation is for you. Come lay down the weight, embrace the finished work, and reenter community with shouts of deliverance. If this message lifts your heart, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help others find their way to freedom.

IntroductionWe can hear the slogan“Once Saved Always Saved!” as a summary of the Christian life. This sounds like you go through life on easy cruis control as a mindless muppet. The Canons of Dort, Reformed Theology, clarifies that believers can fall into serious sin, and God may allow us to experience the consequences. However, the assurance remains that God will ultimately bring His people out of darkness. We consider Psalm 32. This is David's reflection of his falling into sin. David fell, was restored, and now he teaches us the wisdom of perseverance. The Joy of Forgiveness (Psalm 32:1-5)David begins with a celebration of God's forgiveness. There is blessing in knowing our sins are forgiven and covered by God. Yet he also describes the agony of unconfessed sin: bones wasting away, groaning all day long, feeling God's heavy hand pressing upon him. David is describing the soul rot of unconfessed sin before the Lord. When David finally acknowledges his sin comprehensively, then he sees the joy that God forgives immediately. The lesson is clear: trying to hide sin or thinking it will bring satisfaction only leads to misery. The Spirit continues pressing on believers even in their darkest moments, pushing sin to the surface. True relief comes through confession and finding mercy in Christ. The Only Hope (Psalm 32:6-7)David shifts to instruction for the godly. We might feel like the waters will destroy us. However, as we continue to offer prayers to God we see that God is our hiding place. , He is our shelter in the darkest valleys. Even when believers feel abandoned or alone, God remains present. He hears our prayers and is our shield and defender. The Canons of Dort remind us of the church's vital role here: through the preaching of the gospel, the Spirit renews believers to repentance. We never outgrow our need for the gospel message. Each week, we need to hear again that we are new creatures in Christ, that our Savior is at work, and that not all is lost. God works in His timing through His Word, accomplishing His purposes even in those we might consider "lost causes."The Lasting Lesson (Psalm 32:8-9)David instructs believers not to be like horses or mules. These are stubborn animals that need bits and bridles to control them. The warning is against testing the boundaries of God's grace. Christian liberty means understanding biblical boundaries and, in wisdom, sometimes setting additional boundaries for our own protection and God's glory. The example of Eve in the Garden shows both the danger of adding to God's commands. She puts words in God's mouth that he never said. She should have said they had the wisdom not to touch the tree. We need to remember that God does not deny us good things. True wisdom calls us to see that God is calling us to good. We do not just die in our sanctification, but we live in the Spirit. God does not call us to fasting, but to the eternal feast of the Lamb.ConclusionDavid's instruction flows from lived experience: he pursued sin thinking it would bring joy, and tried to cover it up by his silence. He suffered miserably under God's discipline. He confessed his sin to God and found restoration. Now, on the other side, he teaches others the wise path. He learned the wisdom to live within God's boundaries and not test grace's boundaries. The beauty of the Canons of Dort is its pastoral realism: believers may fall into serious sin and experience dark seasons, but God remains faithful. He will not forsake His people. Through the ongoing preaching of the gospel and the work of the Spirit, God renews, restores, and preserves those who are His until they reach their eternal home.Let us not be a people who seek to be the dumb animals who need constant restraint. Let us live by the Spirit for Christ's glory. Let us persevere in God's preserving power.

Genesis 27 is a pivotal chapter, which explains much about the 4 principal characters of this record – Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob and Esau. All of them show defects when compared against the divine standard. Isaac knew his Sovereign's revealed will that Jacob would be the blessed, and that the elder (Esau) would serve the younger (Jacob); yet he tried to subvert this in seeking to bless Esau. Rebekah did not wait for the Almighty to fulfill His promise; but she believed her intervention and deception would be needed for this to happen. Jacob was prepared to deceive his father (Isaac) at the urging of his mother (Rebekah) rather than to trust in his God to outwork the bestowing of the blessing. Esau was a profane and godless man, who cared about none but himself; and he sought only material prosperity. Isaac's sight had gone and he believed that he was nearing death. So Isaac told Esau to catch and prepare venison for him to eat before dying; and, that he might bestow on Esau the Abrahamic blessing. On overhearing this Rebekah immediately calls Jacob to fetch goats that she might cook them with spices so as to taste like savoury venison. Jacob is scared that their planned deception might fail, since Jacob's skin is smooth and Esau's is rough and hairy. Rebekah says Jacob is to dress in Esau's clothes so as to smell like his brother. And she will sow the goat skins to Jacob's arms in order to deceive Isaac. Isaac's sight being gone, Rebekah and Jacob must betray his sense of taste, smell and touch. After hearing Jacob Isaac was suspicious, nevertheless his other senses told him that it was Esau standing before him. Isaac gave the blessing in verses 27 to 29. Read these verses aloud and contemplate their meaning. Isaac had disobeyed Yahweh's determinations. Esau now appeared with his prey prepared for eating. Upon realising what had happened Isaac trembled – the Hebrew says, “he trembled with the trembling of God” – as well he should, having sought to impose his will above the LORD's; Isaac now in humility of mind submitted himself before the Almighty. Esau with intense pleas and tears sought unsuccessfully to reverse Isaac's mind (Hebrews 12 verses 15 to 17). Isaac now stood immovable having understood the Almighty cannot be resisted. The apparent blessing Esau received was in no way a blessing (verses 39 and 40). The Hebrew words in verse 29 translated, “the fatness of the earth”, actually mean “away from the fatness of the earth” – Esau thereafter dwelt in the barren wilderness of Seir, at Petra. And as verse 30 told he lived by his sword and was the sworn enemy to Jacob his brother; and the nations that descended from the twins perpetrated the animosity until Edom (Esau) ceased to exist as a nation in 70 AD when Rome sacked Jerusalem. Rebekah overhead Esau's threat to murder Jacob and planned his escape to Haran. In verse 46 Rebekah used Esau's profane marriages to Canaanitish wives as a reason for Isaac to order that Jacob be sent to Haran to find a faithful, covenanted wife from among Abraham's relatives.

Today’s Bible Verse:"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." — Psalm 32:8 Psalm 32:8 offers a powerful promise of divine direction and care. God doesn’t just command us from a distance—He personally guides, teaches, and counsels us with love. When uncertainty clouds our next step, this verse reminds us that we’re not walking alone. God’s guidance isn’t harsh or impatient. It’s tender, watchful, and rooted in His desire to lead us toward wisdom and peace. All He asks is our willingness to listen and trust His gentle instruction. “Want to listen without ads? GOD said you have to acknowledge your sin to Him in order to be forgiven my friend. He doesn't want us carrying the weight of our transgressions bc that's how the enemy can trigger us into condemnation. You do not move the same when your conscience is guilty. More importantly Father wants us to be receptive to change and not be obstinate. A stubborn heart can lead to a stagnant life. Jesus told the woman "GO and sin no more. Your sins are forgiven." John 8:11 For us to walk in the favor of that freedom we must turn from our wicked ways. What's wonderful about God is He doesn't hold grudges or hold onto past offenses like many people do‼️ He just says come to me so I can forgive you, AND CHANGE YOUR WAYS BOO‼️

This was inspired from Psalm 32- the previous recording. I'm literally walking this out with The Lord right now and the revelations He gave me about sin were so intellectually delicious, I had to share‼️Y'all know I usually just read a scripture, but wanted to expound on this one bc we must be free to walk powerfully without the bondage of our iniquity. This year Father wants to free you so He can launch you forward boo!!! Stay blessed not stressed.

In this episode, Bobby reflects on six months of pastoring and draws young people into a powerful truth from Psalm 32. God desires to lead His children with the slightest glance, not the painful pressure required for a stubborn horse or mule. Through vivid imagery and practical challenge, you'll hear how walking closely with God creates a life guided by subtle nudges instead of force — and surrounded by His steadfast love. This is a call to live so near to Him that a simple look is enough to move your heart.Topics DiscussedAdjusting from itinerant evangelism to long-term shepherdingThe spiritual impact of “Awake '25” and formative influencesHow God leads through intimate relationship rather than forceThe meaning of “I will guide thee with mine eye” in Psalm 32The danger of spiritual stubbornness and the imagery of the bit and bridleThe process of being “broken” and why surrender requires trustHow God's hesed — His covenant love — surrounds the yielded believerMoving from external pressure to internal responsivenessPractical examples of hearing God's quiet nudges in daily lifeEncouragement for young people to walk closely and obediently with GodKey TakeawaysGod desires to lead you relationally, not mechanically.
