Doing the work - whether it's personal growth or social justice - needs to be balanced. Andréa and I talk about the intersection between self-trust and activism, how to keep going with anti-racism work even though you're afraid of doing harm and lots of other things along the way. About Andréa You know that kid that's always asking adults "why?" at the most inconvenient times? Andréa Ranae is the Founder and Director of Whole / Self Liberation, a platform and organization dedicated to creating resources and programming to support people as they heal, grow, get free and lead. As a trailblazer in the Personal Development Industry, over the past 5 years, she has worked with hundreds of mission-driven people looking to use their gifts, skills and resources to make an impact in the world. Andréa is the host of a podcast titled A Call to Serve, the author of a poetry chapbook titled Love, Manifesting: A Collection of Poems and Prompts for Those Seeking Love and Justice and she's also a singer/songwriter (and that's what really keeps her going when the world is a bit too heavy to hold). Meet Nic Strack, a Korean and Indian, non-binary autistic Parenting Coach. I had a very very hard time summarizing our conversation for the title of this episode because it was full of SO MANY GEMS. I'm not a parent, but it doesn't matter. Nic blew my mind with their unique migration story, strategies for parenting, and experience with discovering their non-binary self (and how this informs their own parenting style and the work they do!)We talk about how their dad used translators to talk to their mom, who didn't know any English when they met, and they explain about why saying "use your words" to your kid can be harmful. I loved their story about how discovering systems of oppression transformed the way they think. So many parts of this conversation hit me in the feels. I have a newfound compassion for all the things after chatting with Nic. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!Support me on Patreon if you're able. In today's episode vision-led facilitator and coach Andréa Ranae Johnson discusses the pleasure inherent in feeling ALL of your feelings, boundaries and consent in business and life, and the true freedom of not judging yourself for what you want and need. I had an opportunity to ask her about how she nourishes herself while also showing up fully and consistently in service to her community, which, quite frankly, I have always wanted to know! In the midst of a lot of laughter and an amateur exploration of human design, we dove into what it really means to show up and invite the fullest expression of yourself into your life. Today's interview is probably one of the most gentle conversations I've ever had about some seriously charged topics - race, social justice, boundaries, capacity, positions of power, and more. The nature of the conversation totally speaks to how our guest, Andréa Ranae Johnson shows up in the world - with tons of compassion, curiosity, and commitment to contributing to solutions and better systems. In the interview we talked about the larger system we're all part of, and all of the identities we hold. We talked about the sense of care we need to have for ourselves as women (and humans) during these intense times. And we explored how to have our needs and wants met, to not only be OK, but to thrive. Enjoy! “We see things that are so big, they're so daunting, we say, ‘There's no way can change anything. Who am I to even try?' And with that mentality, it's not going to change.” ~Andrea Ranae Johnson You have more power than you think. This month, I made a commitment to join an initiative to build solidarity for social justice headed up by my new friend and colleague, Julie Neale, host of Mother's Quest podcast. It's called the Women Podcasters in Solidarity Initiative and I had NO IDEA how I was going to approach the topics of social justice and racism on The Creative Impostor when I said “yes.” Almost immediately, Andrea Ranae Johnson's new program, Coaching as Activism, popped up in my Facebook feed (I swear they're spying on my real life conversations) and I knew I had to talk with her on the show. In this episode, Andrea Ranae is giving you some real strategies for how YOU can shift your awareness away from futility and overwhelm and toward acknowledging your power and learning how to use your power for good. If you think this topic sounds heavy, please don't skip it!!! One thing I love about Andrea Ranae is how she approaches both the inner work of self-help and the outer work of activism with positivity, hope and a down-to-earth perspective. And if you haven't already, check out Episode 045: Talking to strangers, where you'll hear how I met Julie and why I'm taking on a theme on the show that pushes me out of my comfort zone. Let's just say, it's part of my creative growing edge. “Parenting, art making, writing, teaching — generally how you show up in our everyday lives can be a form of activism… actively dismantling the things that don't serve us in society or in our communities and also creating and cultivating new ways of being or new systems, new structures that better serve the collective” ~Andrea Ranae Johnson  Connect with Andrea Ranae Andrea Ranae's website Andrea Ranae's Coaching as Activism programAndrea Ranae's Podcast: Liberty Twitter Instagram  Facebook   Show Notes Galore: http://www.thecreativeimpostor.com Magic Page!
