Have to breastfeed on American Airlines? Think again. When first-time mom Ashley Copperstone was flying out of Grand Rapics, MI she didn't think twice when she was breastfeeding her daughter at the gate. It's something a lot of us moms do, especially trying to soothe a cranky baby. A crew member from American Airlines felt the need to publicly approach and shame Ashley and tell her to cover up for breastfeeding her 15-month old daughter. When Ashley complained to American Airlines for the interaction, their response was less than acceptable. Shame on you, American Airlines! Connect with Ashley @joyfulhopevirtualservices As of August 2021, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands have laws that allow breastfeeding in public or private settings. In this episode, Amanda shares how she was organically led into starting a business creating jewelry out of breast milk. She shares how starting a business was never her intention. After a struggle with breastfeeding, she happened to stumble across breastmilk jewelry and instantly knew she wanted a piece for herself, but quickly discovered all of the pieces she liked were completely out of her price range. So, she decided she would do it herself. It took her a long time to perfect the process, but she refused to quit; she was determined to prove to herself that she could figure it out and make a completed piece. Once she did, her friends started asking her to make them their own unique pieces. She has recently celebrated her first year in business and has been nominated for two business awards. She started with her friends and through word of mouth, then spread locally and is now making pieces for clients as far away as Australia .Amanda is the founder, owner and jewelry maker at The Milky Fern.Find The Milky Fern's Website hereFollow The Milky Fern on IGFollow The Milky Fern on FacebookFollow Candace on Instagram
Welcome back Box Owners! This week we welcome back the CEO of Idea To Launch Agency/Academy, Podcast host, and a former Period, Sis guest, Carla Wilmaris. Contrary to popular belief, the baby doesn't pop out of the womb and start drinking milk from the nipples seamlessly, it's a process. In this episode, Carla and I discuss the controversy around breastfeeding in public and the overall challenges women face while breastfeeding. Carla shares the pain and discomfort while getting the baby to latch properly and the impact that stress can have on a woman's milk production. This learning process for both Mom and baby can cause a lot of stress and frustration. In Carla's words “we both don't know what the fuck we are doing.” She talks about needing support from her doula and spouse while trying to breastfeed and shares how often she's wanted to give up. Tune in to learn about the healing properties in breast milk, baby bonding, and how truly magical breasts are! If you know someone who is breastfeeding please send this to them. The presenter, journalist and “Queen of Mean”, Anne Robinson, is best known for her acerbic style of presenting on 'The Weakest Link'. In the 1960s she was the first young female trainee on the Daily Mail, worked at the Sunday Times and the Daily Mirror, and went on to host programmes from Points of View to Watchdog. Today Anne takes up the Countdown reins as the first female host of Channel 4's longest running series. She will join numbers whizz, Rachel Riley and wordsmith, Susie Dent, to make a formidable female trio. She joins Chloe Tilley. Last week the government voted down proposals to make it illegal to film or photograph someone breastfeeding without their consent. MP's like Stella Creasy, who has experienced this herself when teenage boys took photos of her as she breast fed her baby while on a train, and the MP Jeff Smith, wanted to make an amendment to the Voyeurism Act of 2019 - more commonly known as the Up-skirting Act - which focused on making it illegal to take photos and films of the lower part of the body or ‘up a skirt'. This recent proposal is for a simple amendment to be made to the 2019 Act to include the upper body and so protect breastfeeding mums. In April this year Julia Cooper found a man taking photos of her as she breast fed her baby in the park. When Gwen Strauss' aunt Hélène was in her 80's she nonchalantly mentioned at lunch that she had led a band of women in an escape from a Nazi death march, in the dying days of the war in Europe in 1945. The women were all members of the French Resistance, although two were Dutch and one Spanish. Gwen embarked on a search for these women, scouring France and Germany to track down their records, their families and their memories. Gwen – an award-winning children's book author - has now painstakingly reconstructed what happened in her new book 'The Nine'. The reality TV dating show Love Island is back on our screens. The show is undeniably popular and creates many water cooler moments, but what can it actually tell us about modern love and dating? We speak to journalist, podcaster, and author of new book 'Millennial Love', Olivia Petter and Nichi Hodgson, author of 'The Curious History of Dating', about how important the series might be in helping millennials and Gen Z find true love after lockdown. Does seeing a women breastfeeding her baby in public make you uncomfortable or feel gross? I used to think that way too. Until I had a baby and realized I had it all wrong. If you want to open your mind and educate yourself on breastfeeding— give this a listen— I think your mindset will change when you take a step into mom and babies shoes. If not, at least you'll have a little more perspective.

Meet Nic Strack, a Korean and Indian, non-binary autistic Parenting Coach. I had a very very hard time summarizing our conversation for the title of this episode because it was full of SO MANY GEMS. I'm not a parent, but it doesn't matter. Nic blew my mind with their unique migration story, strategies for parenting, and experience with discovering their non-binary self (and how this informs their own parenting style and the work they do!)We talk about how their dad used translators to talk to their mom, who didn't know any English when they met, and they explain about why saying "use your words" to your kid can be harmful. I loved their story about how discovering systems of oppression transformed the way they think. So many parts of this conversation hit me in the feels. I have a newfound compassion for all the things after chatting with Nic. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!Support me on Patreon if you're able. I'm not sure why breastfeeding in public offend the men that it may offend, or the women that dislike it. But for some odd reason the feelings are active and vocalized without any knowledge of why. We need to get to the heart of this, so please join me for my rant as I lit a little bit of steam off of my chest and understand this in a very immature, but very open dialogue. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/PlainWayneWins/support
Tonight we went to eat a local Italian restaurant and a lady took out her entire boob at the restaurant and fed her son for about 10 min. I'm talking the entire boob out at the table. Feeding her kid on the side and eating spaghetti with the other hand. The restaurant was packed. I. Could. Not. Look. Away. I understand the hide under the blanket option but to have it all out and about at the table was a little jarring. Is it ok to nurse all out at the table in public? I mean, I looked it up and it is legal, but is it appropriate? At what point is it crossing the line? I don’t have children but I can’t imagine being there with small kids and them seeing that happen.
This week, Maria from Little Peach London, and Nat from Nat The Natural Mom join me in an important conversation about breastfeeding in public. I was personally offended when someone close to my family compared breastfeeding in public to a horror movie!

My guest is Hector Cruz a concerned dad and in my book, a rock star: Here is a note from him all about his amazing project! Tune in live, call us with questions and comments! Project: Breastfeeding is my goal of helping to destigmatize public breastfeeding, and I believe education is where it all starts. New fathers need education about the benefits of breastfeeding and how much of a significant role they actually play in establishing a great breastfeeding relationship between the mother and child. I want women to feel empowered and determined to do what is the most natural thing for themselves and for their child and to have their husbands as their biggest supporters would just be the perfect finale. Society needs to change and accept breastfeeding as normal! That is the ultimate goal of Project: Breastfeeding. I also am motivated to get this journey to a national level and be successful enough to the point of having billboards with the photos of real moms nursing their babies while the daddy stands proud by her side. I am thriving to have these images all over major cities in the United States of America in hopes that the images will serve as a visual reminder that breastfeeding is natural and beautiful and will break down the stigma of public breastfeeding. . Lastly, I want to turn this project into a non-profit establishment that will offer breastfeeding support classes to fathers. As husbands, we want to be there for our wives and our children, but sometimes we don’t know where to start. I want women to know that their husbands are here to support, empower, and help them on their breastfeeding journey.
Giving Austin Labor Support (GALS) brings another exciting documentary to the Austin community. BREASTMILK is the latest film from Executive Producers Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, the creative minds behind The Business of Being Born (2008). Why do breasts and breastfeeding excite such interest, controversy, rage and passion? Breastfeeding has made a lot of headlines lately – from the controversial photo on the cover of Time magazine toWhoopi Goldberg’s public bashing of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, to military moms being criticized for breastfeeding in uniform. Our society is enamored with “baby bumps” but what follows the birth is a different, slightly messier story. Lactose intolerance takes on a whole new meaning as it relates to women, their breasts and their milk. The act of breastfeeding has been immortalized by great artists all over the world, so why are we disturbed by contemporary images of women nurturing children? Why do we have to struggle to normalize this human mammalian behavior? Join us as I speak with Karli Heatherington of Gals and Krisdee & Gail of
In tonight's special show we are covering breaking news. Republican Representative Debbie Riddle said yesterday in a Facebook post: House Bill 1706 was brought before a House Committee today – it is about breast feeding. Now, I am all in favor of breast feeding – however it is important for women to be modest while feeding their baby – and most women are modest and respectful. But, a bill that would allow for law suits if one “interfered” with a woman breast feeding is really going a bit far. If a business owner objects to a woman who is not being modest then be fearful of a law suit is government out of control. Most of our laws and bills being considered for law would not be necessary if people would simply be considerate and thoughtful of others. Needless to say – I am not supporting this bill. I will be discussing this with Sara Chana Silverstein IBCLC-RH. This statement has caused quite a lot of furror on the internet. Pitting moms against one another..
Story after story has been emerging about women being asked to leave establishments across the nation for feeding their children. In spite of the fact that Forty-five states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws that specifically allow women to breastfeed in any public or private location. On tonight's show we will be talking with Harley Jennette who was just recently kicked out of church AND told by the police that she could be arrested for indecent exposure for breastfeeding.. CONTRARY to the law. We will be joined by Emma Kwasnica founder of Human Milk 4 Human Babies. She is no stranger to "Breastist" attitudes as Emma Kwasnica is being harassed by Facebook again for posting photos of her nurslings. This despite Facebook’s recent apology in the public media, saying this is against their policy. Call into the show to share your opinions or stories or to ask a question.
