James Dyson built his reputation on solving problems that other companies decided weren’t worth solving. He spent years perfecting vacuum cleaners when most manufacturers had moved on, and he turned a $400 hairdryer into a luxury category that nobody saw coming. Now, at 79 years old, he’s done it again. The Dyson Airow is a $499 toothbrush with a tiny camera in the brush head that takes 28 images per second, finds gaps between teeth, and fires a jet of mouthwash to clean them while you brush. When the Wall Street Journal asked Dyson how big the market is, he said he had no idea how many would sell and that he doesn’t structure decisions around a business plan. That answer would make most consultants nervous. For anyone paying attention to how categories actually get created, it’s one of the most honest things a founder has said in years. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go.   Why Nobody Else Would Have Built This Every traditional business process would have killed this product at the market sizing slide. Oral care is a crowded category controlled by a small number of large companies, and a meaningful portion of toothbrushes are given away free at dental offices twice a year. The numbers would have told any reasonable analyst that a $499 toothbrush had no addressable market worth chasing. Dyson didn’t look at the market that existed. He looked at the behavior that wasn’t working. Only about 30% of American adults floss every day, and a third never floss at all. That’s not a market gap sitting in a spreadsheet. That’s a visible, daily failure that nobody in the category had built a real solution around. When a founder sees something like that and decides to spend six years fixing it, that’s where new categories begin.   The Super Consumer Nobody Was Selling To There’s a specific type of oral care buyer who already owns an electric toothbrush, a water pick, floss, and whitening products. They’re not buying these things out of habit. They believe what the science supports, that oral health connects directly to overall health, that bacteria from gum disease can enter the bloodstream and affect the heart. For this buyer, $499 for a device that addresses the part of brushing that nothing else fully handles isn’t an indulgence. It’s a logical purchase. This is the same dynamic that drove Oral-B’s power manual toothbrush years ago, a product that many people inside the company thought was a terrible idea. A battery-powered brush that looked like a regular toothbrush, priced at $7, with a non-replaceable battery. People said no one would pay for something they already got free. Those same people probably didn’t think anyone would pay for bottled water either.   The Data Play Nobody Is Talking About The Airow, as it stands, is a camera in your mouth taking nearly 30 frames per second. That camera is going to get connected to software, and that software will generate health data that no other company in the oral care space has ever had access to at scale. Over time, the Dyson toothbrush becomes less of a hardware product and more of a data collection platform, one that dentists, orthodontists, and health companies will find genuinely useful. Dyson’s long game here follows a logic similar to what Tesla has built with its vehicle fleet. The cars on the road today are gathering the driving data that makes autonomous systems better tomorrow. A connected Dyson toothbrush does the same thing inside a market that has barely been touched by this kind of thinking. The person who owns a category like that doesn’t just sell more product. Jennifer is helping Isaac's stepdaughter, Sierra, when she sees that she has the missing book. UH OH! She claims she has NO IDEA how it got there!Turns out, only Carol's prints are on the book. Who is Carol? She's the one who was leading the murder mystery and brought the book to the party.In a crazy turn of events, the murder mystery party is still a go! And everyone is still in as long as Detective Frank is out.Bad news though - Jennifer gets hit over the head by someone cuz she keeps snooping around! Everyone is so incredibly suspicious and so down to continue with the play.So, they decide to go forward with it but keep an eye on all the suspects. What we don't know is that Jennifer looked in the closet yesterday and there were 3 door knobs, now there's only 2. That means it could only be one person - the guy who runs the inn! We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into on this drive… We rode from Moab to Potash and then headed onto Shafer Trail—and WOW, this was an adventure!The road climbs along the canyon walls with incredible views, and steep drop-offs. If you are a new virtual assistant and you are sitting there wondering, "Okay, but how do I actually get my first client?" this episode is for you. I'm so glad you found me! Today I want to talk about how to get your first (or next!) VA client, even if you have no idea how. Here is usually what happens. You decide you want to become a VA. Maybe you take a course. Maybe you took my Getting Started as a VA course! You start researching services. You set up your business. You create a website. You make a social media account. You spend a huge (probably embarassing) amount of time choosing fonts and colours. And then eventually you look at your beautiful new business and think, "Okay... now what?" How do I actually get somebody to pay me? And that is where a lot of new VAs get stuck. Not because they are incapable of getting clients. Not because there are no clients out there. And not because they need another six months of training. They are stuck because nobody has really explained what getting your first client actually looks like. There is no magical button that says "find me a client." There is no secret website where all of the business owners who need a VA are waiting for you to arrive. And you certainly do not need to have your entire business figured out before you start. In fact, one of the biggest mistakes I see new VAs make is believing they need to know exactly what they are doing before they can start looking for that first client. You don't. You need to know enough to help someone with something they actually need help with. That's a very different thing. So today I want to walk you through how you can start looking for your first VA client, even if you feel like you have absolutely no idea what you are doing. Trying to find a client, whether it's your first or next, is about taking action right now, with what you have and where you are. You don't need to become someone else, you don't need to learn anything new, you just need to start those conversations. Talk to people about what they need, and let them know if you can help. Lindsay Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is standing trial in Plymouth Superior Court for the deaths of her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan. Prosecutors allege she strangled them with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023, then allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Wednesday's testimony picked up right where the defense wanted it to. Clinical psychologist Dr. Paul Zeizel, called by Reddington, told jurors Clancy was gripped by intrusive thoughts so persistent she believed people could hear them — and that if they did, her children would be taken from her. She called a suicide hotline twice in December and was turned away because she didn't have a plan, which apparently was the bar. Zeizel didn't sugarcoat what these thoughts do to a person: they don't ease up, they don't take breaks, and by January, his testimony went, they'd escalated into her mind telling her to kill herself. He also made a point jurors will have to sit with — that someone can be in psychosis and still function well enough to get through a day. After extensive testing, Zeizel says he found no psychopathy, but did find bipolar disorder with postpartum psychosis, and no indication she understood the wrongness of what she was doing.Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands when it happened and has since relocated to Manhattan. Lindsay Clancy saw her psychiatrist fourteen times in four months. Her nurse practitioner, who was also prescribing her medications, had no knowledge of those visits. When Clancy checked herself into a locked psychiatric unit, neither outpatient provider was notified.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Tony Brueski on True Crime Today to cover what these provider coordination failures mean in a case where three children — Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months — are dead.The trial at Plymouth Superior Court is in its third week. Testimony has shown Clancy searched "hallucinations" on her phone five days before January 24, 2023. She messaged providers that she felt completely hopeless and was experiencing unfamiliar intrusive thoughts. A postpartum treatment program she reached out to declined to accept her because of the number of medications she was already taking.Peer-reviewed literature documents postpartum psychosis as a rare condition — roughly one in every thousand births — with a four percent infanticide rate. Clancy's defense argues she was in the grip of that condition. The prosecution argues she was deliberate.Clancy attempted to end her own life immediately after. She jumped from a window and shattered her spine. She is permanently paralyzed. A person on the autism spectrum leaves a file-sharing program running overnight because they want cartoons or anime. By morning, thousands of images have downloaded onto their hard drive, some of them child sexual abuse material they never chose and, in some cases, never even opened. Months later, the FBI is at the door. A judge stares at the download count and asks how anyone could not understand what they were doing. My guest Dr. Mary Riggs Cohen, spends her working life answering that question in courtrooms across the country. She is a clinical psychologist with thirty years specializing in autism spectrum disorders and has conducted forensic evaluations of autistic defendants since 2009. Her new book, co-written with defense attorney Elizabeth Kelley and digital forensics expert Michele Bush, is Cybercrime and the Autism Spectrum: How the Online World Creates Victims and Offenders. I met Dr. Cohen at the International Academy of Law and Mental Health Congress in Montreal, and I asked her on the show the moment her presentation ended, because so much of what she described maps directly onto the recruitment tactics I have studied for five decades. Dr. Cohen's first point cuts against the instinct to sort people into predators and prey. “Most people on the spectrum are both victimized and offenders at some point,” she told me. Cyberbullying, financial scams, and sexual exploitation run in one direction. Chat rooms that ask for “a picture of a child in your family” run in the other, quietly moving an autistic person into possession of CSAM they may never have sought out. Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is not “child pornography.” It's evidence of child sexual abuse—and it's a crime to create distribute or possess. CSAM includes both real and synthetic content such as images created with artificial intelligence tools. Because many autistic individuals catalog and organize obsessively, agents who search a seized computer often find the material sorted into folders, which reads to an outsider as intent rather than what it frequently is: a hyperfocus trait turned against the person who has it.
